Definitely better than another Choice Hotel that we stayed at recently. We make this drive from Idaho to California quite often but typically don't stay in Bishop. This was our first time and we had our dog so finding a pet friendly hotel that's decent, is always a challenge. This one checked all the boxes. It's close to the bakery and walking distance to other fast food and eateries. Parking can be tricky if you get there too late. But there were more spaces on the other side that we didn't know about until we walked our dog. There's also a bowling alley nearby. We only stayed for one night and it really was more like a 12- hour stay but it was enough to get rested, fed and our room was comfortable. The breakfast selection was pretty well stocked. It's a grab and go style so we were able to take it on the road with us. I would consider staying here again. read more

I wanted to love this place because I love the name and the pictures looked nice. It's one of the priciest places to stay in Bishop so I expected to feel like it's an upgrade from the other motels. It is an upgrade, but still very much a motel, not a hotel. Pros: The entrance is nice. I can tell they upgraded it recently. Looks clean and I can see the effort made to make it nice. They have water and ice in the lobby, which is nice. The fitness room is decent for a motel. Breakfast isn't much but it's filling. It works. It's toast, cereal, bagels, egg whites, oatmeal, yogurt, bananas, apples, milk, peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese and coffee. It's not gourmet but it works. The breakfast place is nice, clean and upgraded. I do feel like they try their best to make this place comfortable. The effort shows. I love that the entrance to the rooms is indoors. It's walking distance to restaurants and the park. I'm assuming this is the downtown. I had a dog and they were very friendly and accommodating. I love that they have a bathtub. I have toddlers so it was a nice way to bathe them. Plenty of parking. Cons: One of the major disappointments for me is the wifi. It's extremely slow. This is a big major point for me because I have to work on my laptop and when videos aren't loading it's difficult to work. The doors look old and outdated. It just lowers the aesthetic. There are no elevators, which I already knew. I can overlook that though, my main compliant is the WiFi, especially for the price. read more

Came here on business and our room didn't have a desk. Very inconvenient because I then had to go to the lobby area to conduct conference calls. You can see in the picture that they put the sink outside the bathroom with no towel rack so we ended up hanging a towel on the blow dryer. Who designed this room? And the chair was in the corner with no view of the tv! This place seemed so charming when I researched hotels online. I was looking forward to the complimentary breakfast, but all I ended up getting was toast and hard-boiled eggs. Pros: great location, went to the Japanese restaurant next door on one night and the restaurant behind us on another night. Mini-mart across the street. And we were pleasantly surprised that we were there during the town Christmas parade which passed right in front of the hotel. But I probably won't be staying here again. read more

Stayed here with friends for two nights and had a great experience overall. The hotel is clean and the beds are very comfortable--I slept well both nights, which is always my top priority. The bathroom is on the smaller side, but manageable. We tried the hotel breakfast on the first morning; it was convenient, though we opted to explore a local coffee shop the next day instead. One of the best things about this place is the location. It's within walking distance to shops and restaurants, which made getting around Bishop super easy. I was pretty sure I wrote a review for Cielo years ago, I don't see it though. So my husband and I have been stopping here for decades, this used to be a La Quinta if I remember correctly. Anyways, on our way to Topaz with the wave runners, stopping for a rest in Bishop is a highlight. There's always parking for my truck and trailer. We were greeted warmly as we signed in. Our room was clean and although this place is older, it had been painted and spruced up a bit. It's just a nice place to take a break and it's easy walking distance to Jacks, my favorite diner and Schats Bakery. read more

I would consider this hotel like the bridge between a motel and a real hotel. I liked that the entrance to the room was from the inside. A big downside is they have NO ELEVATOR. So if you cannot climb stairs, ask for a room downstairs. They continental breakfast sucks. They offer, bagel, toast, boiled eggs, cereal, banana, apple, and packaged oatmeal only. My truck broke down in Bishop on Tuesday 7/27/26. I booked a room for 3 nights while I waited for parts and labor $1186.11. I then asked for another night, Friday night, with the promise I could cancel that reservation . My truck was ready Friday morning so I attempted to check out . The hotel threatened me with a $500 penalty if I checked out early , both on the phone and at the front desk. It's now Sunday 8/2 and they billed me another $319.34 for a night I didn't use . My client was in town for a hair appointment, and her reservation was denied. They told her that they didn't honor appointments for people who live locally, (she lives in Mammoth,) because they "trash the rooms." What the hell?? I will never recommend this hotel to my clients that travel here for services. read more

3.75 stars. Convenient location as it's near the bakery, bbq and downtown is a couple blocks down. It was great that the giggle gas shop is across the street. We only had the coffee and tea ( green tea and Lipton bags) and didn't go for the continental. Since the rooms are a little tight it was convenient that we were able to order take out and eat it in the lobby. I do appreciate that they are pet friendly. The tv was a little hard to figure out. Room was clean tho! I was cracking up because the bathroom door doesn't open all the way (at least in 107), the door hits the toilet. There is enough clearance for us but I just wonder if someone falls or has semi mobility issues, that could be a problem. We stayed 3 days 2 nights, if you stay more than 3 nights then they implement the cleaning fee. I'd probably come back if my other go to spots weren't available. Service was nice too. read more

Front desk doesn't greet you. We ended up paying near $200/night for a hotel that does not have elevator or pool. We booked a suite, but the room is just a studio with no kitchenette. Can't watch TV in bed because TV is faced in a different direction. Small bathroom with small old tub. Only one person can fit in the bathroom. Breakfast was limited. Ants were on our desk, and were all over of food bought from Erik. End up tossing out about $50 of the food we just bought. We got sick and can't stay for the 3 nights that were booked. We called Expedia so they can call the hotel and let them know we got sick and need to check out 1 day early. The next morning the hotel told us they never received such message. We called Expedia again so they can sort it out. We were still sick, so we checked out for 2 days instead of 3. The hotel took off our discount, added $100 for penalty, $59 for occupancy tax, $20 for hotel service tax. We stayed with Cielo twice but Never Again. read more

Slow internet, can hardly do basic google search on my laptop. Priceline said they have pool. They don't. Bad attitude like it was a stupid question when I asked about the pool from front desk And not that I used the gym but I checked it out. Not much there, treadmill and dumbbells basically. Being a more expensive place in bishop, would expect to at least be able to stream some tv before bed. Pretty disappointed. I seriously don't leave reviews, but this is disappointing. read more

It gets the job done! I came here for a quick trip to Mammoth. I stayed here for one night and it did the job. It was clean enough but not pristine. If you are a clean freak, I do not recommend this place. However, I appreciated the in-room "amenities" like a microwave and an empty mini fridge. The AC/Heater is a little loud but I will take loud over cold. I paid about $135 for a night, not including taxes. The breakfast was very sad. Some Dannon yogurt, a bowl of boiled eggs, and some plastic container OJ. I deem it overpriced but would come back for a night! I would go elsewhere if I stay longer than one night. read more

Honestly have no complaints about this hotel, clean rooms, clean floors, new carpet, modernized, new furniture, big shower, cozy beds and new bedding. If the other hotels were booked I'd stay here. But, I'd check sure every other place first. One star for location, one star for evening check in staff. The marketing photos and hotel accommodations list an outdoor fire pit. Not there. It used to be. The outside public space patio, even have the doors secured closed. I had envisioned an evening with hot cocoa around the fire pit, which was a selling point for me. I considered leaving when I found this was not here. The images also show some comfortable interior public spaces, also; long gone. For these reasons I am glad that we opted for the larger room. As this was a leisure trip, and I'd be at the hotel during the day while the rest of the party went fishing. With no public spaces and with staff who were less then friendly; I was literally bound to my room. There is no elevator at the property, so just know that. For the breakfast. It's slim for sure. Yogurt. Toast. Cold cereal. The photos show fruit, which is non existent. *Due to covid* yet they still have an attendant for the food, which in other hotels is all you need. Seems this place is still trying to skate by on older "rules" and get buy and make more $$. There is Wi-Fi, which is appreciated. walking distance to dinning is reasonable, even in the chill of the evening or morning. The business center depicted is not currently operational. Of the four interactions I have had with the staff, the afternoon/evening staff is the more attentive and friendly. The day watch staff could care less if you were here, or what your needs are. The air/heat unit allows me an exterior view.... Again more hot cocoa. The keurig machine is floor level in the room, so I moved that. The bathroom is reminiscent of a cruise ship. But... a full tub and shower :) The bed is comfy, and you will be snuggling up; as it's a wee chilly during the winter. Bring your ear plugs; you'll also hear road noise. All times of day.. So. This place was overpriced, rundown, and simply poorly run. The plumber who set up the faucets put everything in backward (so hot water was right and cold was left), the hallways were so narrow you couldn't roll a suitcase down then without hitting the walls, the vending machines were out of order, and the "complimentary" breakfast was so small as to be laughable. They just said its policy and didn't have anything else to say. No one said cleaning is required after three days when i checked in. Worst motel/hotel I've ever been to. It was a nightmare. A horror. Not only was there was there a dead roach in our room they started construction work on the room next to ours early in the morning. We had got there late night and just wanted to sleep for a few hours but they woke us up with the loudest banging ever. They were doing demolition work 8 am in the morning. It was crazy. Owners/management at cielo is the worst type of people to exist they don't give a darn about guests. They will wake you up with 7-8 am in the morning with the bangs and sawing sounds of heavy construction/demolition work. read more

While the location of this hotel was good, it is a bit dated and somewhat odd. In our room the layout was just weird, the bathroom renovation was crazy with the toilet encroaching in front of the sink! They had plenty of room to do a good reno but chose instead to use 'stock' sink/cabinet squeezed into the small bathroom. The floor in the room was noticeably sagging. The cleanliness was good though. In addition, the quote we received for our reservation did NOT reflect what we were charged (+20%). Skip this one. read more

The room was OK, we stayed in this same Hotel many years ago and not much has changed. The TV was hard to figure out, the remote volume button didn't work, so had to walk to the TV to change that each time. The bathroom has NO Towel Rack to hang a wet towel or wash cloth, you just have to put it on the countertop. I'm not a fan of that at all. The so-called breakfast had really changed, basically a Continental type of breakfast. For being part of the Choice Hotel Group, they had no waffle's, juice was in a container like yogurt. Basically, they had bread, bagels, cereal and hard-boiled eggs. No eggs, bacon or sausage, very disappointed. The fan on our AC unit ran all night, I guess I could have gotten up and tried to turn it off, but didn't. I had set the AC at 78 and we were fine with that temp, it was just the fan that ran the entire time. It was a much quieter Hotel then some of the others in Bishop, but that's about all. read more

Appreciated the wonderful hospitality of Cielo Hotel in Bishop, California. Our large diverse group always stays there for the annual Manzanar Pilgrimage the last weekend in April every year. The manager and staff are always so accommodating for the use of their facilities for our group bbq and saturday morning fried rice. The rooms are very nice and clean with a small refrigerator and microwave oven. The beds are the most comfortable ever... Thank you Cielo Hotel! PS--I left my sunglasses at the hotel and when I called to check if it had been turned in, the nice young man who took my call said that they found it and will have the manager call me in the morning. read more

Horrible customer service - highly advise to stay away. I had booked a ONE night stay at Cielo Hotel via phone and wasn't told I couldn't make any modifications to my reservation until after they had taken my cc# and charged me. The day of my reservation, the Creek fire in the county had rapidly expanded. There were hikers being rescued and airlifted out of the area and the AQI level was at a record breaking high. Since I have respiratory issues, and we are in the time of COVID, my Dr. advised for me to not go near the area. I explained my concerns to Choice Hotels company and The Cielo Hotel. The front desk rep and booking rep rudely said they would not refund me. The hotel ended up charging me for TWO nights, again, my reservation was for one night. I had to open up an investigation through my credit card company and it's been such a hassle and a mess. I've emailed Oscar, the hotel GM 4x and still haven't gotten a response. I have only good things to say! I bought on Priceline about 15 minutes before entering Bishop to get a lower price & it was very clean.. comfy beds! We had a in suite. The bathroom was smaller than I've seen on cruise ships. Hair dryer did not work. Sink had hot and cold settings opposite of the norm. Shower was a trickle. The living area was enormous. TV was difficult to get to work, chaise lounge was rock hard seating with worn edges being heavily frayed. Lighting was lacking g. King bed in need of repair- we loped to the middle and could feel springs. They say it's been recently remodeled- I feel as though they simply painted added some modern art prints. I wish I could give this place even less than 1 star. But you have to choose something. Me and my dad stayed here for a fun Daddy + Daughter ski getaway. It was fairly close to Mammoth. Which is the main place we were going. And the Prices were also decent so we thought why not. However we will never stay at the Cielo again! Probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at in my life so far. And I've done quite a bit of traveling. I've never experienced no running hot water. Unacceptable! Then Charging me multiple times for unknown reasons. A week + after we left. Not small amounts either I'm talking almost $1,000 more they charged me. Each amount being higher than the last. Frauds! I rather stay at a honest company that gives way better service. And that always keeps water running. I will never give Cielo the opportunity again. I don't know why they even claim this is a 3 star hotel. More like a 2 star. Make sure you shower early because they run out of hot water. Also they only clean the room every 2 days. For whatever reason. We were so disappointed when we came back from a day of snow activities in mammoth to see that our room was never cleaned the entire day we were out. The bathroom is small as well. Almost the size of a closet. I don't like how the ac/heat in the room you can't set it to an actual degree only low heat/ low air etc.. settings. Needless to say I never slept well here either. I was either too hot or too cold. Along with hearing people's footsteps overheard we were staying on the first floor. And could overhear walking on the 2nd floor above our heads. Ridiculous. Never saw an elevator either. Another thing I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have an elevator. What in the world is this?! The phone in the room didn't work as well. Avoid this hotel! Next time we'll be staying in mammoth or another hotel in Bishop. The Cielo has lost my business forever. Not sure why all the negative reviews. My go to hotel has always be the Creekside Inn was it was sold out. I was a bit worried what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Room was clean and very comfortable beds and great working air conditioning. The bathroom is small but it was fine for one night. Check in was easy and the customer service was excellent. Great location to walk to town center and restaurants. Popular Japanese restaurant right next door. read more

Pictures DO NOT match what you actually get. This place is made to seem modern, new and nice, but is far from. The bathroom was tiny with a tiny, old looking bathtub. The wood is falling apart and the walls are popcorn design. They say they serve breakfast, but what they actually serve is packaged oatmeal to make with water, yogurt and an apple. If you're looking for simplicity and basic, this may be the place for you. But at least the beds were comfortable! But this is far, far from nice and modern if that is what you're looking for. Stopped here for a night on the way to Reno last week. Hotel didnt let us check in til 130 pm, so we spent some time at the dog park nearby. Room was good. A/C worked great. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was quite small. Ended up breaking the toilet seat and the hotel was cool with it. Their breakfast was weak. Just some bread, yogurt and OJ. read more

Customer service is poor. Staff directed me to a different room than previously booked. Staff calls me when sleeping and tells me to come to the front desk. They charge me for both rooms. People make mistakes. I get it. But I had to call multiple times to get it sorted out. Eventually, charges are cleared up. Its 14 days later and they're charging my credit card on file for another room. I don't even know how that's possible. read more

At first glance, the entrance is open, clean and welcoming. We were greeted with a smiling face. The room smelled like disinfectant wipes, but we soon learned that was likely the extent of the cleaning. The sheets were visibly filthy, numerous hairs of various lengths and growth origins, and what I would guess to be blood stains. There is no possible way these sheets and blankets could have been washed at all. My wife and I prefer clean sheets, as I imagine most do. When my wife went down to bring this to the attention of the front desk, she found herself alone while the smoke break was going on. After her cigarette, She was told "I could text the manager because I know who did your room. I mean we could switch the room, but that is more of a bi!@#." My wife, disappointed as we all would be with the response, went to the car and pulled out some sheets and pillow cases she brought. We may as well have slept in the car. Staff never contacted after, asked if we wanted to have new sheets brought up, nothing at all. I went down about an hour and a half later to get a plate to warm up some food we had, and would you guess the lobby was empty once again? Apparently smoke breaks are included in every hour of work here. At least the staff is taken care of. Absolutely filthy, no remorse from staff, no attempt to rectify or compensate. If your looking for a pit stop on your way through bishop, keep on looking. read more

Let's start with the good part. Location is central Bishop. You could park at the hotel and walk to several decent eateries and there is a park across the street. It's about two doors down from Schat's Bakery. Cielo does serve a complimentary breakfast, but the coffee.... Warm. And I am trying to be nice. In other words, if you are starving and in need, there is food available. Check in was fine and they do aloe pets for a small fee. Upon entering our room, there was a nice blood stain in the center of our bed. The arm chair looked like it had been through a grinder and it looked like some one had smeared shit on the wall. They did change out the comforter. (Just gross) nothing they could do about the chair and they ignored the wall. The bed was comfortable. But then the best part!!!!! No hot water. Yup! We couldn't even take showers. No we will not be back. read more

Silver lining when the roads to Mammoth were closed and our baggage got lost. Easy phone booking, minutes from Bishop airport, on Main Street in walking distance to many restaurants and amenities. Bathroom was nicely stocked with shampoo, separate conditioner, body wash, lotion (highly appreciated because we didn't have any of that). Great shower pressure. Nice artwork in rooms and common areas. Small but fully equipped gym. Excellent value. read more

For a prepaid reservation, they charge a $10 resort fee at check-in. The do not inform you of this but ask for a credit card for incidentals. This is a underhanded and deceptive practice. I called to question them on this and the desk person was rude and stated the manager was not available. I would avoid this place. read more
