AAA membership, like AMEX definitely has its privileges. A member for umpteen years, I've taken advantage of roadside assistance, travel planning and picking up license tabs post smog checks. In Culver City and in need of a temporary (red) disabled person parking permit and not sure where this office was located the Yelp app directed me pronto. Surprised by a huge, free parking lot I was even more surprised by how expedient service was, literally in and out in less than 15 minutes! AAA can also assist with vehicle registration and renewals, duplicate registration and tabs, driver's license change of address form, used vehicle and off-road transfer of ownership, release of liability, replacement license plates, and new or used boat transfers. However, here in SoCal, renew your driver's license either online or by mail but if you need to take a written test, have a picture re-take, you'll have to make a DMV appointment. read more

This is not about a specific AAA office but about their centralized dispatch for car service in the field. I had my car towed Saturday evening from West Hollywood to the service station I use in West Los Angeles which is ONE BLOCK from where I live. The dispatcher's information supplied to the driver estimated a 9-mile trip & the driver told me I'd have to pay $20 in overage fees. I was shocked because it's just not that far. I drive this route somewhat regularly, and I know it's only about 6 miles. I asked him if I was being charged portal-to-portal from where HIS trip started, but he said "no". When we got to my mechanic's place, the distance logged on the tow truck was 5.8 miles! It's pretty much a straight line from where I was to where we ended up on Santa Monica Blvd. There's no sensible route that could have caused this trip to be almost 50% longer. Maybe dropping all the way down to the 10 Freeway would rack up that many miles, but that circuitous route would make no sense...especially with a tow and especially given the light traffic on surface streets at that hour. I happen to know the distance because I've driven it a number of times before. Most people whose cars are stuck have no idea how far it would be to where they're being towed. If they used Waze, however, they could easily figure it out. I can't imagine how a computer-based operation like AAA could miscalculate mileage so drastically. I am left to conclude that this is a regular procedure which is being done in order to rip off customers!!! Shame on them! read more

Since I reside in Southern California, I walked into this office to see if there is anything they could do. I came to this location to sell my car to someone in a Saturday, make changes to my insurance (remove the car sold) and to pay the balance on my insurance. Because I had 3 different transactions: DMV, Insurance, and cashier, I had to see three different people. From start to finish I was out in 45min. The staff in the DMV side were extremely knowledgeable and quick. We were lucky enough to get a guy who's been there over 10 years and he knew exactly what we needed to do. We did not know the buyer personally and we were concerned about title/ transfer/ tax etc. but that guy made the process smooth and easy. On to the insurance side, Tyler K. Helped me. He was so nice, friendly and fast. He was able to remove the car from my insurance and stop automatic payment all within 10min. The cashier was very friendly as well. Two things that really stood out here was after each transaction everyone asked "is that all today? Can I help you with anything else?" And there was a manager walking the floor in each department checking in with her staff to make sure everything was going well. Overall great experience and this will now be the only AAA branch I go to. read more

I needed to get a temporary disabled parking placard because of my recent injury. My friends recommended I go to AAA to get it versus at the DMV. Very convenient location in Culver City and there is plenty of parking in the back of the building. When you enter they have a check in station where they take your name and what your visit is for. I was directed over to the DMV section where I was supposed to see all of the people waiting. It was about a twenty minute wait but the time seemed to fly by. My name was called and within minutes I had my placard. And to think I only thought AAA helped with roadside service, insurance and travel maps. read more

This review is for the supervisors and the contract managers who hire LA tow as one of their tow providers. After being in a traumatic car accident I called AAA, who called LA tow. I informed LA tow where I wanted my car and rather than taking it where I wanted, they took it to LA auto center (by far the worst experience) . When I wanted my car released the next day, the auto body shop wanted to charge me a $535 tow fee. A tow fee that should be included with AAA as I am a member. Instead of releasing my car to me, it was then shuffled around on a tow truck associated with LA tow and AAA (as the driver was wearing a AAA T-shirt and driving around a tow truck with AAA on it), for several hours. This matter is so ridiculous that I needed to call the police to get answers as to where my car was. After talking with several people LA tow and AAA no one ever returned my call when they said let me check with my supervisor, no one told me where my car was!! And AAA should be ashamed of themselves for doing business with this company!!!! read more

I came to this location to pay my DMV renewal while on my lunch break from work on a Friday. The receptionist took me in right away. She was very nice and friendly. It was blazing hot outside, so it was nice that the place was well air conditioned. Other Yelpers seemed shocked that AAA only takes cash or check for a DMV renewal. But honestly folks, this is common for all the AAA's that I've been to. It's just the way it goes. My only gripe: There was only one lady (who was very nice) working at the DMV section of this AAA. It seemed like all her back up might have been out to lunch or something. So I waited a little longer then I would have liked. However, she was super helpful, and VERY nice to me. I really appreciated her help. Tip: They can make you a set of car keys here for free! I would have gotten a new set if I had more time. But I had to get back to work. read more

Hey Automobile Club of Southern California, a motorcycle has two wheels and weighs about 400 lbs. An RV has at least four wheels and is slightly bigger. Just FYi. Why you charge the same to tow either defies logic. Telling a member of 15 years who is stranded in nearly 100 degree weather that you changed the policy and now I have to pay $400 to tow my broken motorcycle, take or leave it, is aggravating. But what's absolutely maddening is that after two hours of back and forth, a friend with the same exact AAA membership is able to summon a free tow for the motorcycle using the AAA app. Wait, wait, there is more. What's completely surreal is that after all that, two more calls to membership and nearly an hour on the phone, not even your staff is aware of the new policy or can clearly explain what the policy is or why I couldn't get a tow with a call, but my friend could with the app. So bye bye. I wanted to get a membership but you HAVE to get the Basic plan first ($52.00) then NOT use the service for 3 months in order to qualify for the upgrade Plus plan ($85.00) but you CAN'T upgrade to Plus plan if you use any service within 3 months if you DO use any roadside service before the 3 months are up, you have to start over (don't use the service you are paying for for 3 months so you can qualify for an upgrade) what kind of company does this!! read more

Well, I came in to purchase a 3 day cruise for the holidays. I walked out with another trip that I purchased on booking.com, since no one called my name. I was waiting for 30 plus minutes. There were 2 ladies sitting on their cubicles calling customers on the phone. I overheard one saying, "I'm calling since it's my downtime". Really? I thought. I'm sitting between the 2 cubicles and not once did they acknowledged me sitting there. I checked with the front desk. She confirmed that she checked me in. I have other tasks to do taday. I would love to spend another 40 minutes there, but I can't afford to. I love AAA. I've been a member since the early 2000's. The DMV is a perk I use. I had a dead battery today, called AAA. Battery service truck showed up in 20 minutes. In 30 mins the battery was tested and replaced with a new one (6 year warranty included). But basically, YMMV and who you happen to interact with will matter. My interactions just now, on the phone, with Jerry Krakora couldn't really have been more lovely. Just like that with a laugh and 5 minutes of typing he cut through a dozen hours or more of frustrating and infuriating calls with the 800-number. OMG why deal with them ever? Never again (until the next time when the bureaucratic problems reverse of course). This time at least, and this agent, was as perfect as one could ever hope for an interaction to be. He understood what was essentially a trivial situation, that required a little bit of personalization to fix, and he did it, with good grace and ease. For which I am enormously grateful. Today went to my local AAA office in Culver City. Had to get papers notarized for my wife and I. We both do not speak English very well and the AAA staff person that was servicing us basically berated us in English and would not notarize the paper for my wife. I told the AAA staff person in my broken English why we were there but she told us that if my wife could not tell her in English then she could not help us. My daughter started to tell her mom that she needed to tell the AAA person in English, when the AAA person said, "NO, do not talk to her or translate anything to her. You can not tell her anything." (The AAA person does not speak the Asian language that we do.) I have lived an visited this office for the past 50 years and have never had such bad customer service. I understand that my English and my wife's English is not great, but to be berated and not serviced was humiliating. The AAA person did not even try to speak to us so that we could understand, but instead became irate and unprofessional and basically ignored us. My daughter who drove us to the office, was talking to the branch manager and so I tried to explain to the AAA person the situation, but she ignored me. I am so disappointed in this office. I hope that the office trains their workers to be more empathetic to those that do not speak fluent English. read more

After being a member for over 42 years either living in Southern California or Arizona I had the worst experience at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday October 16th 2021 in West Chester California 90045 area code I had a flat tire on my car and I requested a flatbed for a tow from here to Monrovia California which is only 36 miles after calling the young lady who answer the phone said:35 minutes.. I waited 35 minutes and I called back they said would be another hour this time is 7:15 a.m. so I waited and I have to be at work at 8 a.m. on that day? So when I call back they said sorry they do not have a driver or tow truck at this time they're connecting me to the shop nearby in Inglewood California The guy at the shop said sorry I cannot TOW YOU 40 miles.. I told him I have premier AAA account he says sorry no can do at that time I was very upset so a tow truck shows up and he said no I cannot tell you either because you have a friend will drive so at this time I'm not only more upset I am livid:( I used to commute from LA to Tucson Arizona and I lived there for you and a half had no issues with AAA in Tucson. When I call back to complain they said sorry we do not have enough drivers at this time really you're joking 6:30 in the morning on Saturday with crazy covid 19 I found out the shop had the driver by the owner did not want to tell me over there so I like to know what should I do at this time they put a spare tire on my car and I made it to work one hour late. Called and was given the lower price over the phone and paid. Got a message today that the processing department rejected the lower payment. No one I spoke with could waive the $16 so I paid it.
