I've always loved AAA. I especially love to never need them. But when I do, without fail, I have an experience like today. My car battery died after a meeting and I really needed to get back to work. I called roadside assistance and in about half the time I was assured someone would be there I met Billy. More things couldn't have gone wrong, but Billy cheerfully and confidently solved each problem. To say that he went above and beyond would only scratch the surface! All I can say is, "give that man a raise!" Anyone fortunate enough to employ Billy can rest assured that he is leaving a wake of happy, car problem free people! read more

Solid experience here. The DMV on Los Arboles had a serpentine line outside of over 70 people which was moving extremely slow. The people near the front of the line had been waiting nearly three hours. Went to the nearby Auto Club near to the corner of Hillcrest and Moorpark and they had me in and out within 15 minutes. The best part was that the person who assisted me was pleasant, whereas the last couple window clerks at DMV have been rather grumpy and abrasive. read more

So, yesterday I found myself faced with a dead battery and called AAA of Southern California. They dispatched Roy's Towing who arrived within about 20 minutes of the initial call. Ian, the service tech, checked the battery and found it only had 18 Cold cranking amps, (it is supposed to be around 500) I was taken aback, as the car is not that old and very low mileage. He went one step further and checked the electrical system and it's charging capacity, which turned out to be just fine. He had the proper size battery on board his service truck and installed it in about 5 minutes or so. The battery, installation, etc. cost $123.00 total and it comes with 6 years of warranty, 36 months exchange and 36 months of warranty where there is a cost sharing for a new battery. Not too shabby. AAA of California has done a great thing in keeping many of their offices independent buildings with ample parking and quick service -- and this one is no different. The Automobile Club is one of the few remaining 20th Century Institutions that seems to have retained the good vibes! I've been in a number of times to deal with DMV headaches and they have always been able to solve my problems. While the annual fee might seem like a bit much -- it's well worth it to never have to deal with the California Department of Motor Vehicles and for their excellent roadside assistance programs. read more

Once THE service of which to be a member, AAA has become an ordeal to be endured. Following an absolute nightmare following a broken waterline claim on our home insurance (it took 2 years, and constant badgering to reach agents who were always taking "long weekends", among other numerous problems), we finally had to refer them to the Calif. State Insurance Board, at which time they finally honored our policy, though we still took a financial loss on damaged property, and the contractor their agent recommended (something they're not supposed to do), damaged our dishwasher, and the repairs done left our home uninsurable with better agencies (we finally found one, after another year). Having renewed my membership for auto and other services, I never received a new card, now a year and a half later. Average wait time to reach our local agency by phone can take 2 or 3 tries, after waiting on hold for 20+ minutes at a time. Sad to say, AAA has grown too big to be much help or benefit for anything, except avoiding long lines at the DMV, and THAT only comes in handy every 4 or 8 years. We explored switching auto insurance with AAA and had some questions on life insurance / homeowners insurance as well. Ray took the time to explain every aspect and answer EVERY single question I had. Now I have to tell you, I had QUESTIONS. He was patient and informative. He educated us on our homeowners insurance, auto insurance, and life insurance as well. NO pressure, just explanations, information, and answers to ALL my questions. He referred us to Peter Fercioni for the life insurance portion. Peter was thorough, detailed, and informative as well. I've been a member of AAA for over 25 years and today May 10, 2016 I received the worst treatment and "runaround" at the Thousand Oaks, CA Office that I have ever received. The excuse from representative Howard Gorbus, was "well they do it different at other locations". That was after two trips to the Thousand Oaks AAA in one day along with a wait. Then being told I could not complete my registration. I was even told to go to the DMV! All I wanted to do was change the address and renew a car registration. If I had been treated like this ever in the past my I would never have continued to renew my membership. So disappointed....I'm NOT recommending the Thousand Oaks location to any member!! I usually do not write bad reviews but this time, I have to. I went to this office to get my car insurance. It was a complete waste of time and money. After signed the documents they cancelled my insurance tellling me that there was an issue with the dates even though I gave them all my documents and they verified everything. (agent Hazel Esguera. This is not the first bad review she has!!!) I also was told to indicate different dates of what my official documents show!!! Yes!! The agent told me to just put a different year in a form to which I obviously said NO!! And just after I did not want to indicate a false date they cancelled my insurance. Also after that, none responded to my calls or emails for days. Finally the manager contacted me but she told me they were charging me for one month and not refunding me for the entire year that I had payed!! So bad service!!! I wouldn't patronize this business again if it were the last one on earth. I've always thought it was too bureaucratic and difficult to do business with, but 2018 topped the cake. After taking thousands of dollars from me over many years for auto, home, and umbrella coverage, this year they decided they were losing too much money on wildfires and decided to change their "proximity to brush" guidelines. So I recently got a call that they drove a person by my house, decided it was too close to "brush" (which is on the other side of my street), and said they were terminating my insurance. AAA Fail. This is hard for me to write this because AAA (esp. T.O.) has been so reliable and friendly to date. Today, my 26 yo daughter's battery failed. I checked it and it was showing 6V instead of 12. Battery date showed it was 2.5 years old with a "3 Year Replacement Guarantee." I called AAA and was delighted when they said they'd send a tech out with a new battery. Near 100 degrees today. Very concerned for my daughter breaking down in the future. The fun stopped when AAA got off the phone. A tech from Roy's Towing came out and tested the battery -- it was defective. But instead of producing a new one, he called it in to his 'office.' Not sure why. Now I know. The guy at Roy's Towing's office said (over speaker), that the test showed the "alternator killed the battery." Refused to replace battery. Instructed us to 'call a mechanic,' have the alternator replaced and "call us back if the battery fails again." What??? Isn't that WHY we have AAA, so that we don't have to worry about being stranded on the side of the road? And they're suggesting my 26 year old daughter road test the battery to see if it strands her??? Again??? (I tested the alternator. It's charging perfectly.) I have Bosch batteries from PEP BOYS in my other cars, also with a 3 year replacement warranty. If there's a problem, they test the battery. Doesn't have to be in car. If defective, they replace. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. No diagnostics of the car. Apparently AAA doesn't do that. Buy the Pep Boys battery. Same battery, BUT THEY HONOR THE WARRANTY. Ironically, I received my annual bill in the mail an hour after Roy's left. AAA, you may want to have a chat with Roy's Towing and/or others who represent you poorly or may not be on the same page. Evaluating my use of AAA in the future. My auto insurance has a similar plan (cheaper), I'll check with them and see what they offer. That's truly a shame, because the office services are so awesome. But they're not worth more than peace of mind. read more

Not sure if this is the right AAA, because I used dispatch for roadside service, but thought kudos are kudos and can be redistributed where necessary. AAA dispatched Roy's towing for the 2nd time in 2 months. I contacted them for a tire blow out on the freeway. Roy's was on the spot within 10 minutes, absolutely amazing. AAA stayed in touch to make sure I was OK since I was on the freeway. Then late this afternoon my transmission and alternator took a dive. Called my mechanic in Fontana, and coordinated with AAA and Roy's towing for delivery. AAA coordinated the service efficiently and professionally. Jim N was the driver for Roy's towing who AAA dispatched. He was phenomenal. He had the car loaded in 5 minutes and was off to Fontana from Thousand Oaks to try and get there before the drop off support closed for the evening. He kept in contact with me and with them, and accomplished the job driving the 210 freeway on a Friday night. Jim deserves a raise! Thank you AAA and Roy's Towing. read more

Recently Geoffrey helped my sister and I plan an Alaskan cruise. What a disaster! I had my passport card with me and showed it to him. He had never seen one but looked at it front and back and okayed it. The day we were to leave, one half-hour before our departure from LAX, I was called to the podium only to be told that I could not get on the airplane as my card wasn't valid to fly to Vancouver. As a travel agent, Geoffrey should have known that. Because we were supposed to fly out on Sunday and AAA wasn't going to be open until Monday we ended up with several mishaps and had to spend another $500 more money before we finally connected with the cruise ship. FYI the information on the back of the passport card stated "valid for land and sea transportation between the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean". My fault for assuming it did not include air but the agent should have known that. Don't make the same mistake I made. I believe there should have been training on the part of AAA for their agents. They need to know that. We had gone through AAA so we could be confident that all would go well. My sister is 82 and I have Parkinson's and this was to be our last trip. Sad to say I would never recommend AAA as this mess up caused heartaches and a lot of money as well as took the joy out of the trip. Kathy L read more

I'd definitely give 0 stars if possible. Samantha Santoya should be fired or at least retrained on what exactly customer service entails. She's rude, nasty, disrespectful and downright awful! I did nothing and said nothing to her while getting eye rolls, deep sighs and groans like she was being tortured having to do her job. She told me my appraisals were "wrong" without looking at them, abruptly asked, " were these even done in the last 3 years"? Ummm yes, just look at them as they are in your hands- yet I only said "yes" as I was trying to be nice instead of feed into her nastiness. I was trying to add a jewelry policy on to my already multiple policies I've had through AAA. HOME/earthquake/flood, 3 cars, a motorcycle and now a 2nd home I was attempting to add as well after this jewelry policy. Samantha then asks out of the blue, "so you have a renters policy w/us"? WHAT??? Where did that come from? So I asked for someone else since I was told there's no manager at that branch, hmmm odd. I finally get everything done and get a name and number of the "fill in" manager Phillip Botts. I called him as I walked out of the branch w/no answer. I left a voicemail and have left 5 voicemails since he never answers. I've reached out to my agent and he said upper management would be calling me- nope, never happened. Called his supervisor Aaron Ruiz twice and left messages w/zero response. Called AAA customer service and spoke w/Janet who scheduled an appointment for 6/22 for a manager to call me. Nope, that never happened. Now I hear today from AAA, ( 3 1/2 weeks later) that I need new appraisals due to my diamond size. I asked for clarification and was told any diamond over 1/2 carat needs this specific type of appraisal yet somehow they were all to ignorant and uninformed in the branch to know that at the time. I said when I walked into the branch I'd be gone at my 2nd home for the summer and would this be able to be completed before I left? I was assured YES, it's covered as of 5/29. My agent even confirmed that- yet now, 6/23 I'm being told NOPE, not insured and "sorry for any inconvenience". This is the absolute WORST NIGHTMARE and DISGUSTING DISPLAY OF CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I'd have thought they care about their clients and truly they do NOT! I will be continuing to share my horrible, negative experience with everyone and now looking to cancel ALL my policies and move my business to a company that cares and actually knows what they are doing. Customer service is something AAA prides themselves on, and lately our experiences with this entire organization have been unacceptable. But today, (June 6) when I called to simply inquire about the price of discount tickets for Universal Studios in Hollywood (pricing having changed completely because of the new Harry Potter World), I was yet again surprised at how inattentive they've become. Took me over 10 minutes to reach someone to speak with, and when I did, I was told I needed to give her a specific date to check prices. No problem. I asked her to check for Friday, June 10, and the woman trying to help me put the phone down to "log into the system." After roughly 12 minutes, she came back on to tell me she still hadn't logged on because she was busy checking people in at the location. She told me I'd have to continue to wait because they were just "very busy," which was said as if I should feel bad for having called in the first place. I'm a member too. I called the correct number. I waited my turn. My question was simple. Why was I made to feel bad? When I said I guess I'd call back, she informed me that was best. Uh, what?? read more
