AAA has changed a lot since I first became a member in the mid 70's It used to be our go to place for any and all travel needs - plane tickets, maps, and my absolute favorite, Trip-Tics. I have stayed with AAA all of these years because of the emergency service which has more than paid for the cost of the membership over the years. I also really like maps. Real maps that have no naggy mechanical voice that tell you to "turn right HERE" We have been using this office ever since the full service office on Plumb closed. I only use it to get maps and travel guides. It is ok as far as it goes. The maps for local and regional travel are distributed by vending machines - swipe your member card, punch a code and it gives you your map. I guess if you want something not regional, you can order it online. There is help available, but usually just to stand by and let you know the vending machines can be "a bit fussy". Took three tries to get get what I wanted. What I do not like about this office is the limited hours. They are not open on weekends and are open during the week from 8:30 - 5:30 so it is difficult to go there during work. I really get the feeling AAA has shifted to putting the emphasis on Insurance rather than travel services. I will continue my membership for the emergency road service and of course the free maps. Trip tics, alas, have gone the way of 8-track tapes. read more

When you AAA is there for you, THINK AGAIN!!! I arrive to this office well before closing and am denied service. I had shoes and a shirt so it wasn't that. There were at least 6 workers in there sitting and standing and staring at me so obviously they were not doing anything! And they were all listening to Gail tell me that they are only accepting payments because ''DMV stuff takes too long...'' Well damn isn't that why I pay for membership and insurance?! Or is it just for the catalogs I get in the mail? There are Absolutely no signs that say "We only do payment services after 5:30 Mon - Friday's and we only do payments only after 1pm on Saturdays" . If there are signs then I missed them. I drove hours through rush hour traffic and more for a "sorry maybe tomorrow!" That doesn't reimburse my gas or time. Every time I walk into a AAA branch wether it be Reno or Sparks, the employees act like they can't help me. I came in at 4:15 for dmv services and was told that they can't help me because they were closing.. even though they close at 6pm. What is the point of staying open until 6pm if you're not going to continue helping customers. I understand it's nearing the end of the day, but your doors are still open. The people working the front counter are unwilling to be helpful. Like I'm a burden for strolling in at 4pm to get services that I've already paid for. If you're open until 6pm, then you need to continue helping customers until 6pm. Period. I've been going around in circles trying to get simple things done because no one is giving me accurate information and rushing me out of the door because they're ready to go. (ED: This review is for roadside assistance, not insurance) I've had to avail myself of the Reno AAA THREE times in just over a year now, and I can't say enough good things about the AAA techs and their service(s) (in the event that an AAA rep is reading this and can help ID the driver, my service request number was 35638). Today I had a very very VERY dead battery and I'm now kicking myself for not asking the name of the kind technician who was dispatched - with a 55-minute arrival estimate - and arrived at my car in less than five minutes. He checked the (dead) battery, jumped it, waited for ten minutes while I drove around the neighborhood charging it more, checked the battery again (dead. again.) jumped it again, waited AGAIN while I drove around the neighborhood and was even able to pull up the date that I purchased the battery from AAA in November of 2017 (service request 35487) to make sure it was still under warranty in case he needed to replace it. The battery is good as new :::knock wood::: and now I can get to work tomorrow morning. In Sept I had a key-fob malfunction, and the guy who came THAT day (service request 38597) was ALSO amazing. Kevin my Roadside Assistant was beyond any expectation I could of asked for. He friendly, easy to talk to, has a great sense of humor fast and very efficient. I've been a member of Triple A forever, but had to walk through hell and high water to find the address on the Internet. Triple A's website really sucks. You can't find their offices and they use the site mainly to promote their insurance products or discounts you can get through them. They actually ended up losing a star for having such a poor website. I'm really surprised that Triple A is so clueless. So, other than my tough math, I mostly admire, revere, and am extremely grateful to Triple A. I love my plastic spare key, but if I lose or break it, I love the speed at which a lock smith will come to my rescue. I thank AAA profusely for all the free maps, trip planning, and car inspection services (this is fantatic if you ever want to buy a used car!). If you've read many of my reviews, you'll know that I care about safety, but I want safety at a reasonable price. AAA delivers this, with a smile for the most part. Their phone service is great and it's just the bomb that they call you when your road service person is a few minutes away. Thanks Triple A! Now please fix your website. Happened: TODAY - Easter Sunday My husband and I had a very, very scary experience on Interstate 80 going over the Donner Summit pass. Our vehicle spun out of control and we ended up in a ditch. It was terrifying. The first thing my husband said was, "Are you okay? I replied, "Yes." He then said, "We are going to call AAA and they will get us out." The man's name was Alberto S. In the shock of the accident, I did not get his last name. I want AAA to know how much they mean to us. Alberto was kind and extremely knowledgable. He got us right out. Please, please, please let him know how much we appreciate him being there. In the shock of the accident, we did not get the dispatcher's name. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. Being in a ditch on an icy, snowy afternoon was really awful but knowing AAA was on their way made things a lot better. I saw an ad on national tv showing a girl at a dmv thinking her number 37 was being called. She then opened her tag all the way to show her number being 87. She then goes to aaa and they state, no wait, no appointment. I then received a card in the mail stating the same thing. I thought how great. I had sold one car and wanted to put those plates on another car that was going to be registered in a week. DMV was way out on appointments. When I walked in the first question I was asked "do you have an appointment?" They were actually trying to get me to make an appointment. I said I would wait, there was no one waiting. Then came Lucy. She called my name and I didn't notice the "S" on her blous. "lol". She was amazing. She had never done this before and got everything done in minutes. We went in to get our cargo Trailer plates and it was a wonderful experience. We were going on a road trip about a week later and they gave us a lot of literature to help us! We just came back from 5 1/2 weeks in Mazatlan Mexico. When we left I took out travel ins with AAA travel. Did not think we would use it but my husband took ill and spent a week in Sharps hospital. It was with Alliance travel ins. They took over and paid everything. They would call to see how he was doing. I will not travel without it. We once had travel ins and I got ill. This evening after shopping for groceries we loaded the jeep and Spud turned the key only to hear a loud pop. The loud pop was the battery exploding. AAA to the rescue, but first one must call them. I am not good with accents; my ears just do not adjust to the nuance. So the woman on the other end of this conversation had a distinct East Indian accent and it took some time for me to understand her questions and my answering. But we did get it done. A service truck was sent out with in 30 minutes. Jesse was the driver of this truck and he explained what happened with the battery and pointed out the split on the side of the battery. He exchanged the battery for a new one and tested it a couple of times in relation to the drain from the car. He took his time to make sure it was as it should be. This was all done very professionally and with quiet friendly calm. I am very happy with this service. read more

My family has been with AAA for many years. We have five cars and pay for the AAA premium service. Tonight my daughter drove trough an area where water was over the road. The person in front of her stopped quickly so my daughter did the same. Water flooded her engine. This was not deep water mind you, Cal Trans was on site and had no interest in stopping motorists. No warnings were posted. My daughter called AAA and was told that they were only handling emergencies. After waiting an hour the dispatch called back and stated that entering obviously high water voided our contract and they would not be coming out to assist us. How the dispatcher made that determination is interesting as Cal Trans made no effort to divert traffic. My daughters car was moved off the road with their assistance so that other vehicles could pass by. The dispatcher further stated that we should call an independent towing company and put in for reimbursement. Nice. Sure glad we opted for "PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP." A couple of weeks ago my car suffered an electrical problem. I called AAA. The guy that came out had a rotten attitude and a flat bed. He said he could not tow my car. Now my vehicle was parked outdoors , in a marked parking spot with no cars around it. He told me I needed to pull the car out myself and situate it behind his truck. I complied. Then he told me that a I needed to drive the car up on the flatbed. Again I complied. Glad I had put a quick charge on the battery. The driver than asked if I was sure that the shop I was towing the car to knew he was coming. "Well yes I had spoken to them twice that morning." All the while this guy was acting like I had done something wrong. He very obviously hated his job. I tried to make nice and sympathized with him over how busy he must have been and how hard it must be with all the bad weather. He just looked at me and stated,"not really." That was it. Nada mas. Just "not really." He then drove off. No goodbye, see you later, I got this...nothing. AAA will happily take your money and urge you to upgrade your membership. Don't. Their service is atrocious. As soon as our membership is up we plan on finding an alternative. Rudeness, lack of service and misrepresentation of their product seem to be commonplace. Be sure to avoid breaking down when it is not convenient for them. If and when they do arrive be prepared for some attitude, and the worst customer service you will have encountered in years. read more

I was at AAA today the 23rd if February. There was the sweetest gal with short curly salt and pepper hair at the main counter wearing antenna headwear in red white and blue on her head. I asked her name but sadly don't remember it. She treated me like a Super Star. I told her that I could not access the on line service and I wanted to buy another year of Road Side Service. Turns out that I was not receiving in the mail my card reapplication, magazines or any of the perks that went with my 91 dollar card. I left there feeling pampered with an armload of treasures. My issue is not with this specific branch, but the company as a whole. My Fiance has been with AAA for around 10 years and I started using them 3 years ago. The roadside service has been nothing but excellent and has saved me from having to come out of pocket a number of times for things such as locking the keys in the car or needing a tow for whatever reason. The insurance specifically the claims department has been the polar opposite. After an accident where my vehicle ended up in a 4-5 foot deep ditch I of course needed to have it repaired for some suspension damage, both side airbags deploying witch ripped the headliner off the roof and a decent dent in the front bumper. I chose to go with the first shop they recommend from their certified repair shops and was given a 2 week estimate on the repairs. When 2 weeks had passed I had not heard anything from repair shop or AAA so I went to the repair shop to find out what was going on. I find out that they could not do the repairs and outsourced it to another shop 4 days after they received my vehicle, which as I was then told was standard practice. However after 11 days they had still not received the estimate from the other shop which is right next door. So after that plus numerous other delays because the air bag module had to be shipped by ground. Then they forgot to order a different part it has now been 32 days with zero work being done on my vehicle and another 11 until it's actually fixed. Now throughout this whole thing both shops have been telling me different stories on why there have been so many delays and I was finally fed up, so I call the claims department and explain the situation. So one of the supervisors is going to call me the following day after they talk to the shops. When this person calls me she proceeded to tell me that the shops explained everything to her and she didn't see what the problem was. So I tried to tell her the situation with the delays and numerous different stories. However she just dismissed what I was saying and she was making a note about what the shops told her into the computer and that was what AAA was going to go by. And that was all that was going to be done. Insurance is supposed to work for the insured person, that is what we pay our premium for, not so they can automatically agree with and take the side of the people I'm having a dispute with then dismiss what I'm trying to tell them and blow me off. I am shocked by the unprofessional way I have been treated by not only the repair shops but by my own insurance company. When I finally get my vehicle back after 43 days if there is not another surprise delay I will be looking for another insurance company that will actually do their job and represent the client. This has been one of the most aggravating and stressful processes I have ever had to endure through. read more

Everything was great from signing up with insurance to becoming a member. I would have given more stars except at the end when I went to register my car. I had a instant debit card and everyone was ok with using the card from paying my insurance down payment I paying my membership fee. But Charlotte in the office sitting at the dmv area wasn't about to have it said I couldn't use the card cause the owner of the car wasn't present. So aaa is ok with using other peoples card and info to become members and pay for insurance but won't allow me to use a instant debit card to pay for my registration...... hmmmm don't u think that's a little weird they support possible fraud when doing everything else but when it comes to dmv stuff no?????? Lol well I can tell u I'm happy to be a member and happy to have insurance but I will refuse to come in and do business with CHARLOTTE if she is working. 9/4/21 - All I can say is AAA is using excuses for poor service/no service. I called due to a flat tire which left me in an unsafe part of the road. I pulled off the road as far as I could to keep my car from going too far into a ditch. I called AAA and gave my information. A couple of years ago I would receive a text within 10 minutes telling me how long the tow truck will be. After 30 minutes I received no text or call. I called AAA again and was told we were in a "gray" area due to smoke and it may be due to that and someone will be calling me any minute. There is a fire up in the mountains, not Reno, and there are cyclists going around my car as I wait for AAA so the smoke isn't that bad. I'm told they will be contacting me in a few minutes. After 20 more minutes I receive no call again so I call AAA again and am told the same thing that someone is going to call me any minute. After another 20 minutes I call again and am told that due to the "gray" area that no one is going to be coming but I can call a commercial tow company and pay for it myself. I thought I paid AAA for this service not to leave me on the side of the road! If it is because of the smoke, which is a pathetic excuse, why wouldn't they have told me that first and not have me have to wait over an hour to be told they aren't going to be coming? Are AAA tow truck drivers that delicate that they can't work due to smoke. Is this now a norm for rain, snow, too hot, too cold also? Strange how commercial tow truck drivers can work. There is a rib cookoff in town and I think if the smoke was that bad they would have cancelled it. In fact nothing in Reno is cancelled because of the smoke. Well nothing except for service from AAA. I believe this is a breach of contract! read more

While in Reno we contacted aaa and received confirmation that our WA state premier membership would allow us to replace maps and tour books we'd left at home. We were warmly greeted by Gail, a 26 yr employee. She replaced everything and then some. We were impressed with the family and Gail and her smile were a much needed stress reducer. Don't live in Reno but was up there picking up a new truck. Went to this branch and was greeted at the door and offered coffee or water while I waited. Everyone was very friendly and helpful so I was able to get some stuff done that I did not get done over the phone since my phone message to AAA several weeks earlier was never returned. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A MEMBERSHIP. I just had to use these guys for the first time and it was such a nightmare experience that I will not ever renew a membership. My car overheated on Mt. Rose Hwy in a terrible blindspot. The tail end of my car was stuck out and I feel lucky that no one wrecked in to the back of me as Triple AAA gave me a 3hour run-around. I literally talked with 6 different people and they first hired Alpine Tow and then cancelled them. The state police got involved and they too were very unhappy with Triple AAA. I had 2 dispatchers actually hang up on me and avoid direct questions like " When will the tow get here?" I'm too tired to repeat the whole nightmare but do want to share that these guys DO NOT do what they promise. Ask which level of service you are buying as apparently their is fine print that basically doesn't allow for the "free tow" unless its no more then 3 miles from your home. I begged yelled and screamed until I got what I thought was what I signed up for, a FREE tow. The "FREE" came with 3 hours of arguing and freaking out on them until I think they gave up and just paid the tow company as I refused to pay. BEWARE!!!!! read more

My agent was incompetent in my opinion. I got homeowners insurance but she didn't include the name of the mortgage company in the policy and, as a result, I got what is called forced insurance on top of my regular insurance . I thought I fixed it online, but I finally had to call both the customer service line and the local office. On my first call to the customer service line, I can't say I was too impressed. The second call, when I had a little more specifics in front of me, went much better. In the local office I talked to a very pleasant person, Carlos, who was helpful. My only complaint is that I said I wanted a new agent and that seems to be something they don't like to do. I guess if they want to keep me as a customer, they better give me a different agent. read more

I arrived in Reno pulling a 12' trailer for street vibrations fall rally. I parked the truck and my water pump blew up. Coolant running down the gutter. I called AAA road side service and they sent Bill Carson within about a half an hour. Bill first pulled my trailer to the Circus Circus oversized lot. They help me get a small trailer out of my pickup bed because he was concerned about traffic light clearance as he towed my truck. My truck was towed to Reno Vuncanizing and we Bill offered to hook up my mini trailer an tow that too. Bill Carson turned my bad circumstances into a "no big deal" event. AAA covered the total cost of this issue and I am happy that I have that membership. I read some of these review related to an office worker having trouble with a computer system. Come On Man!! I bought AAA so when I travel and something goes wrong I don't get my pocket picked. AAA is the best at protecting the traveling motorist. Isn't that why it was started in the first place????? read more
