Decided to go here to try it out. First of all, the inside is a bit too hot and stuffy. Portion size was a lot smaller than I anticipated, based on other Indian places I've been. The "Virginia Iced-Tea" was really good. I don't know what made it Virginian. Maybe the fact that it was cold and had ice did. The Naan was good, albeit crispy. I'm used to more of a softer, chewier naan and so that was surprising. I had to try the butter chicken and it was a little different too. I still like it just fine, though. Rice was absolutely perfect! Some of the stuff on the online menu didn't match the menu in-house. So I would not believe it if you're looking at the one on their website. Shrimp was so spicy! Now, for the really bad parts. At first, I was pleased to get the complimentary water... until I realized that it was room-temp. Everyone else's was so chilled, there was condensation. Everyone else in the place got very large portions, mine were small. Everyone else got checked at least half a dozen times, I was barely acknowledged or straight-up ignored. When there was interaction, me and my party were treated very rudely. My guess is that it was because 1. they were scarred by the other people there that were being very rude and irritating first. And 2. some of the staff are very preferential when it comes to certain demographics and not very partial to others. Love that old double standard, it's even more delectable than anything on the menu! Final word on this place: not the best, not the worst. Service could be a LOT better. read more

First let me say that I was so intoxicated from the amazing aroma that I immediately dug in and forgot to take pics. The restaurant is clean and more on the smaller side being in a storefront but was fine. We were greated by a really nice waiter on our way in and he showed myself and my son to our seats. He returned with a nice carafe of water and glasses. I took half a point because the bottle nor glasses were crystal clean, most likely ran through dishwasher and just air dry. We used napkins to wipe our glasses inside and out as well as utensils to be precautionary. We will definitely be regulars. read more

I got food poisoning here. I cannot stress enough how bad it was. I have never gotten sick from Indian food. I didn't order anything crazy. Palak chicken is a fairly ordinary curry. However, some things were off with the meal. I've never ordered that at another restaurant and had 90% of the chicken be bone. In fact, I've never had it with bone before because why would you want to fish out the chunks of chicken and then cut it off the bone? The meal ended up causing an upset stomach the entire night. I was craving butter chicken and mango lassi (the American special I know) and this restaurant is around where I work, so today when I managed to get off before they closed to break and set up for dinner, I took full advantage of it and placed a to-go order online. They have a huge selection of naan, biryani, curries etc, but my heart was set on the garlic cheese naan and the aforementioned butter chicken, which I ordered spicy (and put in "level 1 or 2 Indian spicy please" as a note, because Indian and Thai restaurants very kind and forgiving with the spice if you're not Indian or Thai, and while I totally respect that, I do also genuinely love spicy food. And the spice level was perfect! There were a lot of chilis visible in the sauce but the heat was a nice warm build-up, and the garlic cheese naan was chewy and delicious. The gentleman manning the counter was super kind, and when I noticed that they had mango lassi in a cooler by the register - which I had been a little bummed to find out wasn't available anywhere on their online menu - not only immediately grabbed one for me as soon as I expressed interest, but also when I mentioned it wasn't available online, he was concerned and went to fix it immediately, which was cool! I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu, and to get more mango lassi, which I'm pretty sure has healing powers. read more

LOVED the food here! If you want something that's actually a little spicy, I would recommend coming here. The food was so flavorful, and tender. It's hard to believe it's all on a few tables set up as a buffet. The rice was cooked nicely, and they brought every table fresh bread every now and then. My absolute favorite thing I had would probably be the mango puree dessert they had. I will probably go back just for that if I'm honest. It's a shame I had eaten so much before. My only critiques really are about how the buffet is set up. I feel as though the rice should be at the beginning rather than towards the end, so as you can set everything else up on top. Another thing would be the lids for the trays. There's not really a good place to set anything, so you sometimes have to stack one on top of another tray's lid, which is a little inconvenient. Then, there's also the amount of space in the buffet area. It's a little small, I wish it could be just a straight line of the food so you're not bumping into others as they're trying to go around the area or in the opposite direction as well. These are just nit-picky things that I think would take this place up a notch. Although it seems like a little hole-in-the-wall, the interior is pretty, and the staff are also very friendly. We tried the lunch buffet! The set up in here is a bit cramped. Accessing the buffet is very difficult. I wish the set up was a bit different so it would be easy to access everything. You are constantly lifting lids not knowing where to place them, on top of figuring out where to place your plate. The food was decent. Their naan bread was good and that's always something I enjoy. We went there around 12:00pm yesterday. We checked online they're open until 3:00pm. It was one hour drive from our location. When we arrived there at 12:15pm. The waiter said they are closed for day. But the opening sign was still on and people are still eating inside. They didn't allow my family in the restaurant. He shut the door off. I love Indian food. This place brings the experience to Kempsville. I got a simple meal and they knocked it out. Chicken tikka masala and garlic cheese naan. Naan was hot chewy on the inside with a nice crisp to the edges. Masala was very creamy with a decent portion of chicken. I am a big guy and this was enough to fill em up and left some on my plate. A bottle of water was provided and replaced during our meal. Other drinks are available; however, I thought water would be best if I ate something I found too spicy. The food was delicious and filling, the service top notch, great portions for the price (observed menu item selections served to other patrons - generous portions), large parking area close to restaurant, a good mix of 4 to 10 seat tables and booths. Large screen TV's with Ballywood style music, very modest noise level that adds to dinning experience. Handicap accessible. Shopping center sidewalk, enter through two doors and entire restaurant is one level, no steps. Easy to remove a chair from a table to accommodate a wheelchair. I did not notice highchairs or booster seats but there were children (seven and up) in the dinning area. The lunch buffet was a good variety of clearly identified menu items in individual containers with lids and serving utensils. Plates, utensils, and napkins are available at buffet serving area. Cups are already on the tables. My friend and I had a truly enjoyable Indian buffet. I strongly recommend you try this restaurant - by yourself, with a friend, or a group. We must have caught them on an off day. We tried the lunch buffet. The food was excellent, the service was adequate. They weren't ready when we arrived, so we were seated until the buffet was ready. For the price, we weren't prepared for paper plates and Styrofoam cups, but it was okay. The dining room is brightly decorated and inviting. What I found unpleasant was that it was well over 80° in the restaurant on a 90°+ day. Maybe the AC was turned up?
