Nawab is our go to spot for Indian Cuisine! We do get this to go, so I can not rate what they are like if you are dining in. It's always clean when we arrive for pick up and the customer service is always 5 stars. The food is outstanding. This visit we ordered the Butter Chicken (medium), Chicken Biryani (mild), Palak Paneer (medium-hot), and Mulligatwany soup. The portions are substantial and each meal is so flavorful. The heat is perfect for each level (yes, I'm the wimp with mild :D ) We will be ordering from them again, and I'll be sure to snap some pictures next time! read more

Huge chunks of moist and flavorful Tandoori chicken, soothing and flavorful saag paneer, a fresh order of naan, and a vast quantity of well-prepared rice to accompany everything. I was completely disappointed. I stood at the podium for more than 10 minutes, waiting for someone to greet me. And when they did, the young lady was extremely rude and offputting. I did not feel welcomed. I didn't feel comfortable asking questions about the food so I just ordered anything. Now I must be honest the food was amazing. However, the attitude from this woman was unnecessary. The garlic naan was delicious nicely seasoned. I loved the ambience was so elegant. But again the only thing that sticks out to me was the subpar service. My actual waitress tried hard to redeem my visit. However, it was just too far gone for me. I just asked for my items to be boxed and I left. This is not an experience that any customer should feel. No one should have to call the restaurant just to get them to come to the front to seat them. In all honesty, I should've just walked out of the door. Great service, great meal definitely worth a return visit. The Mrs and I wanted Indian cuisine for out date night this weekend. Found Nawab on Yelp. It was worth the drive but please beware they no longer offer the buffet and they are closed between 3-5 pm. Otherwise, the meal was outstanding. If you are semi spicy lover level 3 is spicy enough but a level 5 is like dining with Satan. I ordered butter chicken and garlic naan from this restaurant over the phone, but when I received it, the naan was completely burnt and inedible. This isn't the first time I've had issues with their food -- the quality is often inconsistent and disappointing. When I called to let them know about the burnt naan, instead of apologizing or offering refunds they act like its okay to eat burnts foods. I demands refund but they wont refund me back. I love love love this place and I am so happy I was able to visit again and can't wait to visit more regularly. The food is always delicious, curly is creamy and seasoned to perfection. The service is always friendly and just ready to fill any need you may have. I saw "salted lassi" on the menu and I had never had it, I usually always get mango lassi. The server/owner spoke highly of it and he did mentioned it was an acquire taste so I knew it could have or not have been good... it wasn't. Definitely salted !! It may go well with certain dishes maybe? It was also mentioned it is a popular drink for summertime to help keep you hydrated. Maybe I will give another chance but, I doubt it. They got rid of the buffet during covid and it just hasn't been the same. Now it's tiny portions of food for astronomical prices. The buffet was the best in the area. Ordering take out now for 2 is $70+. We used to go to the buffet every single week with our family in the area and it was amazing. We have been for the lunch menu and it's just not nearly as good. Always looking for a new place to eat that has it all. This place does! We went on a week day for lunch. FOOD First and foremost the food was delicious. Many variations and options when choosing. You can choose those options as mild or spicy... or for those that want to live on the edge, you can go extra spicy. I did and it was great! SERVICE The customer service was top notch. Our server came to check on us multiple times while also refilling water and taking away already used plates-for space sake. I also have a food allergy and the server made sure to talk with the food prep to ensure all was done carefully. AMBIANCE Area had booths and tables and was clean. They were fresh, moist with a crispy coating and full of flavor. We also ordered two samosas which were rich with potatoes and spices. The main courses we ordered came with basmati rice and garlic nan. The nan was crispy and light. The mild Tika Masala with chicken had quite a kick to it. The chicken was tender and the sauce was rich with flavor and not with the heaviness that you find in most Indian restaurants. The lamb Punjabi curry was a homestyle kind of red curry. The pieces of lamb were tender and rich with flavor. The curry was very different than the yellow curry I expected but it was really a pleasant surprise. The service was pleasant,respectful and attentive. . We felt like we had a very flavorful and healthy meal with natural, fresh ingredients. I can guarantee that we will return here as soon as we can. Been to Nawab's Norfolk location many many times and normally they would be 4 or 5 stars but my most recent experience was not the best. Two things stood out for me. 1- Service: it wasn't super busy. Only three tables occupied in the whole place. Even so the waitress only came by once to refill water and then when we asked for a box she didn't bring the check. Waited almost 15 minutes before finally someone brought us a check. 2- Cilantro: Look, I get it. It's Indian food and they use a lot of cilantro. Most places though list this as something in a dish. They did not. They also are using it as a chopped garnish on top of thinks. This is new. For those of us that it tastes like soap (it's a genetic thing. Look it up) this is no good. This is new. I've been coming here for years and a review is due. It could be months between my visits to Nawab and the only word I can think of is consistent. The flavors compared to other Indian places I've been to are delicious & seem to only get better throughout the years. Cannot beat the lunch buffet. There are always employees monitoring & making sure the food stays fresh & filled. I only wish I could catch them on a day they have Palak Paneer. That's my absolute favorite. There is a good variety on the buffet for vegetarians! I usually get little ramekins of all the sauces for dipping my naan and mixing w/ dishes. I also recommend the cucumber tomato salad to nibble on between the hot dishes. If one hasn't tried Indian food, I recommend this place be your first go-to. Although, I have never had Indian food outside of Hampton Roads. I'm not sure if this is what authentic even tastes like. Nawab(I forget the previous name) was my first experience w/ Indian food many years ago and I keep coming back. Staff is soooo friendly. We met a person name Mario who has been working with Nawab for 12years and was very knowledgeable about the business & food. He was awesome. This is my favorite Indian food restaurants in Hampton Roads, they consistently served great quality food. Ordering from yelp was easy and convenient. We will definitely be ordering online again soon. The only critique I have is the Grubhub delivery person did not ring our door bell when they deliver food. I've had access to a lot of great Indian food in the DC area. So far Nawab has been one of the better in the VA beach area. It would be much better if they had a buffet at lunch time. I like to try different things but if I'm alone I can only get one dish at Nawab - it's just too much to eat if I get more. A buffet is a great way for customers to experiment with the restaurants menu and find the dishes they really like. The service was a little slow last time I went. Maybe because it was 1:30 and they were a bit too casual. I'll go again and hopefully they will have a luncheon buffet. read more

Easily my favorite Indian Buffet in the area. The staff here is consistent and friendly- the food on the bar is always fresh and well seasoned without being overly salty. Also it is notable that the staff has all been working here for a long time and seem to be happy, which I find is a rare thing in the buffet world (it's usually a high turn over, with servers who often seem exhausted or under appreciated )- but the folks here feel so genuinely kind and in good spirits.
