When one takes a car to a shop and says I think there is something wrong with the transmission, one would most likely expect to hear that yes there is something wrong.!!! Guess what !! Steve said there wasn't a thing wrong with the transmission. I just wasn't use to 8 shifts or whatever vs old car having 4 or 6. WHAT A BLESSING AND TRULY AND AN HONEST PERSON!!! I had my vehicle towed to this site, its been a while ago, but I need to review this for others. I called them and they told me to tow it in. Once it was there they said they do not rebuilt the transmissions on these, and that I would need to buy one from them. I decided to source a used transmission on my own which I did. Ok, so after I got the vehicle back, and drove it for some time, I started to feel a thumping vibration, always after I've drove it for a bit. Then it starts to get worse and worse. I take it to another shop because AAMCO said the work was not under warranty and they were doing me a favor since I sourced my own transmission. The new shop told me I was missing heat shielding between my driveshaft and exhaust pipes. Sure enough there are several missing and the heat completely destroyed both drive shaft flex plates, drive shaft center bearing, transmission mount. I'm lucky the heat didn't melt the transmission electrical connections. I'm also missing all the hardware that would hold the heat shields on. But wait, it gets worse!! They left several bolts holding the engine to the transmission completely lose and hanging out, maybe a few threads holding them in. Very poor workmanship, attention to detail. I'm sure they found the heat shields laying around and nobody contacted me. Do NOT go to this business if you value your vehicle. WOW!! read more

We had been told that the transmission on our 2003 Honda hybrid would need replacing soon. The dealer didn't want to mess with it so we checked with several shops. We had a really good experience with this AAMCO service center. They spent two weeks looking for a replacement throughout the US. Because of the age of the car, there were none available anywhere. The owner spent a tremendous time trying to help us and never charged us a cent. His knowledge and commitment to trying to help us was impressive. We would recommend this shop to everyone. read more

They told me a transmission wasn't the issue. Then they said there was no charge. Wow, I was prepared to get a transmission. Worst consumer experience ever. Took 24 days for a "3-4 day fix". Quoted a price and nearly doubled on the bill. After 8 phone calls and written information still could not spell my name correctly. Transmission kicks and does not down shift smoothly for power. Dirt and grime ground into my cloth seat. Talking down to customer attempting to make me feel like a fool. Oh did I mention the bullet hole in the windshield which they "didn't notice" in nearly a month. Never again. read more

Spent what I consider too much money for a rebuilt transmission but I wanted a guarantee that was nationwide - unfortunately I had to use it. When installing the transmission they either didn't tighten or left off 3 bolts securing the engine to the car frame. Driving in DC, i heard a "clunk" and then the car definitely started having issues when going from drive to park. Fortunately the aamco shop fixed here in Falls Church, VA quickly fixed the problem with no hassles. The owner, after seeing this review called me and apologized for the service problem - so I did increase the review from 1 star to two. read more

I was in town for a doctor's appt and my muffler decided it was time to fail. These folks took me in and fixed it immediately. I was glad for that. What I have just found out....and the reason for me changing my star rating is they told me the part was expensive because they had to get the part from a dealer and I just had more muffler problems and it turns out..they charged me ALOT more for the muffler then even the retail pricefrom the place they got it from and hung it incorrectly. They called me and faxed me their invoice from the place today so I could correct my review, but the price was whited out.So I looked it up. I guess I can't blame them for trying to make a buck in this day and age..or can I? I don't like to complain, and so recorrected this to give more details. I am glad they felt stronglyenough to call me,butI still feel like I was way overcharged for the after market muffler. read more

Fair and Reasonable. Definitely recommend! In Charlottesville for a few months and needed to get an oil change and transmission fluid and filter change. Called this place and the quote was reasonable and they were able to do it the next day. Dropped off my truck and it was completed within a few hours, exactly as stated. Further, when it came time to pay, there was no hassling regarding the price. It was exactly as quoted. This is rare in this industry. I dealt with Mark, he knew what he was doing and was very polite. I overheard his interactions with other customers and people who called the place. He gave some great advice and only seemed to recommend bringing vehicles in for service when absolutely necessary. Another rarity in the industry. I wish all places were like this. read more

Hands down the BEST service I've had in a long, long time for my car. I have a BMW & had a reoccurring code that would pop up & cause the engine to go into a "limp home" mode. The so called pros at the BMW dealership on Pantops couldn't figure it out...because when they hooked my car up to their computer, it showed all systems fine. Well, it wasn't! I called Aamco and spoke to Tom who from the very start knew exactly what I was talking about. EXACTLY. He and his team went above and beyond to find, resolve & fix the issues I was having with random codes popping up. I'm a loyal customer now, and plan on telling anyone and everyone to go to this Aamco for auto service. Fair. Honest. Awesome communication. You just don't get that much these days. It amazes me that this location is still operational. I have had to bring my car back to the "specialists" 3 times in order to fix a simple problem. I was handed back a car with a bandaid on it multiple times before I had to make it clear that the problem needs to be FIXED not covered up. They have had my vehicle for over 2 weeks and have consistently moved back the date that I would have my car returned to me. Finally after moving the date back 4 times, I was told specifically by the manager that there would be someone available to call on Saturday and ensured me that if the car wasn't ready on Friday, it would be ready Saturday. I called them only to find out that I was lied to and they are closed. This is easily one of the most poorly managed and incompetent group of mechanics I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Avoid this location at all costs. This is a disgusting excuse for a business and WILL waste your time and money. read more

Completely awful experience! Took my car to them as we were referred to them from our dealership and our warranty covered them. They fixed our transmission 2nd gear ha gone out, when the car was returned to us 3 rd gear was gone the car was filthy low on gas way more miles put on it and some of our items were taken from the car! Completely appalled we took the car back to carmax and complained they cleaned and filled up our gas. Gave us a loaner car cause on top of all that Aamco had my car for over 12 days! Finally when we picked it back up to get re-fixed they left the key on the car said it's ready come get it didn't even have a employee ther to meet us and then charged us unnecessarily for something warranty covered! Tuffy is actually now Total Auto Care, and I wanted to say that I've had a very good experience with them. They are are honest and were direct about what my car needed, even telling me that I could probably wait on the fix on my brakes without being in danger of having trouble in the meantime. I chose to have them fixed because I was taking a road trip. They knew that and voluntarily checked out the car's fluids on their own, to make sure I wouldn't have any trouble. Don't take your car here. They told a friend that running a diagnostic would take two hours and cost $190. That would be the same diagnostic that is free and takes 30 seconds at Advance Auto or most other parts shops. They knew she was unsophisticated when it comes to cars and they shamelessly tried to take advantage of her. read more

AAMCO of Charlottesville is terrible to deal with in general. I have been there 3 times and twice for the same repair.They refused me service if I was going to wait on vehicle. So I persued a credit card dispute do to the fact I could not trust the repairs. They have my vehicle now and will not release it without cash and a written statement that I wont persue another dispute and I havent even got my vehicle out the shop yet to test drive it. Anyone that intersested in compensation think about contacting the local " Office of the Attorney General of Virginia". AAMCO as a whole corporation has FTC act against them in place. read more

I won't take my car anywhere else. I trust the staff at AAMCO like family friends. They are friendly, polite, and enjoyable to talk to. I've been in 3 times over the course of the past 2 years and was not charged 2/3 times. The other time they replaced a piece in the engine quickly, efficiently, and at a reasonable cost.This morning I dropped off my car with a large plastic piece hanging down from the under-belly of the car. Because it was a quick and relatively easy fix, they did not charge me at all. I really appreciate the time they spend to take good care of and get to know the customers. I would recommend AAMCO to other college students or anyone else I know. read more

AAMCO of Charlottesville is wonderful. I was having transmission problems back in February and ended up needing several repairs including a new transmission. They ended up ordering me a used one that I could actually afford, but like most transmission work, this was a very expensive ordeal. About a week ago my check engine light came on and my car wasn't shifting right and eventually my car wouldn't start at all due to leaking transmission fluid. I took it back to AAMCO and they had me up in running in less than 2 days. I did NOT purchase a warranty back in February but they took care of me free of charge anyway. They also offered to drive me home after I dropped my car off, as they knew I was stranded without a ride that day. I've been in Charlottesville for 2 years and have taken my car all over the place for various repairs and maintenance this is the best service I've had. read more
