I have been going to Aamco Hackettstown for years. I should have written this 5 star review years ago. The good news is that over the years the high quality of service and honesty has remained excellent so I can still highly recommend their services. The entire team is knowledgeable and friendly. I had a Lexus that they helped repair and maintain until I traded it in with over 225,000 miles on it. I now have a Honda CRV and I wouldn't take it anywhere else. I've had everything from oil changes, to battery changes, timing belt changes, new brake pads and calipers, recharging AC, cracked wheel bearings, repair of the entire front end after hitting a deer including a new radiator, etc... repaired/serviced by this team. I once must have had water in my gas tank because my car would not start at all. I had it towed to Aamco Htown , they checked it out and it started running. Apparently, there was nothing wrong with it so they were honest and told me there was nothing to fix. If they were dishonest, they could've told me something was wrong and charged me an arm and a leg, but instead they sent me home and didn't even charge me to look at it! Another time, smoke started coming from my tire while I was driving on the highway. I pulled over and called Aamco to see what I should do and Mark talked me through it and took my car in right away to make repairs to a stuck caliper. My latest issue was a little mouse who liked to sleep between my hood and it's insulation and he chewed through the windshield wiper fluid line. Aaron squeezed me in to get it repaired right away. This is probably the most friendly auto shop I have ever been to (and I have been to quite a few due to travel and moving often). As a stay at home mom of a 2, 3, and 4 year old I don't often get welcomed with a big smile when I walk into a waiting room with my three children. They welcomed my children to play with the toys and offered to put Sesame Street on the TV, immediately making me feel welcome with my young children. Unfortunately, we thought we would only be there for a couple hours for a transmission flush and turned out we had metal show up in the pan drip. At that point they were very forthcoming with my options and estimates of price points I would be looking at to number one take the tranny out to diagnose and number two to actually do the repairs. This was obviously a tough spot for me to be in with three young kids but they made the decision easy by offering to help get me and my children home which was not close by (I live an hour away)! As my children started to get antsy Ben offered for them to stand by his desk and watch him do his computer work and when they were helping me get my three car seats from my vehicle my curious toddlers wanted to walk in the garage and Ben very safely let them take a look to keep them occupied. They went above and beyond with costumer service and I really appreciate that! They were up front and forthcoming about work and pricing which is also not usually the case with most auto shops. We ended up getting a rental car as I would need a vehicle the following day to get my oldest to preschool and Mark helped me get a great price on a full size rental and arranged to have them pick me and the kids up to make it easy on me. They called us within the day to give us the diagnosis and we needed to replace the transmission. They gave us 3 different options; we originally choose the remanufactured unit but it was not in stock and would take too long to arrive. When we decided to do the rebuild instead, they helped us get a better warranty for our situation and got to work right away. Yes $4000 is quite the price tag but unfortunately cars and repairs and gas and insurance are just not cheap. After doing research with the warranty (which is the best that I found) the price was in the ballpark of any other repair shop! However, I know I was well taken car of and my car is driving like new! I recommend this AAMCO location and I will most definitely be back despite the long trip. Thank you to Mark, and Ben and the entire staff for taking care of us so well! read more

My husband, dog and I were on our way back home from camping from the Poconos Delaware Gap area on I-80 and all of sudden our car jerked and started smoking. I called my insurance and they assisted me with Roadside Assistant and sent me a list of Auto Shops close buy and 1st choose was AAmaco in Hackettstown. These guys were so so sweet and very helpful. They made us a comfortable as possible as we wait. They informed us often to let us know what they were doing. They were awesome and fixed what they had to do and we were off back to highway on our way back home to the Bronx, New York. Thanks Mark and Mike and 3rd guy I forgot his name. Revised review: pricey and ok customer service. Was spoken to rudely by a customer service agent after paying $90 for an OIL CHANGE upon coming back in due to a light bulb not working. They also forgot to switch off my oil change light. But they did fix it and make it right by doing my taillight bulb for free. I just was unable to understand how one can forget to turn off the oil change switch after doing an oil change. Usually it is just fine, just note it is more expensive than some but location is pretty awesome. By appt only. But they always have accommodated my last minute urgent requests! Our tour van broke down at 10pm and we had to get back on the road asap. Next morning they made time to fix our van in a hurry! They were so nice, gave us great advice on maintaining a van that goes long distances constantly, and very knowledgeable. I've never had such a nice experience at a mechanic shop! read more

Mark and his team are THE BEST mechanics by far. Quality work and they don't overcharge like most places! All three of my vehicles are taken care of by them and I refuse to go anyplace else...even for the little things. Between transmission replacement for my JEEP, electrical problems with the ACURA MDX, and misfires on the ACURA TL....I have never had any issues with this AAMCO and they have always been able to successfully fix my vehicles! So here is my hopefully unbiased objective review about this car shop. First I asked for them to see how my breaks are because I was hearing a noise and to see how much it would be to replace my struts. I dropped of my car and later at noon I received a call from Ben about the work that needs to be done. The total bill came to about 2500$ ... because not only did I needed my breaks fixed it was told to me that my tires also needed replacement. From the conversation I remember that the tires were 190 each ... Ouch ... Of course I didn't want to do that so I just decided to focus on my breaks. The breaks came to 450 with the pads and rotors for just front breaks. I wish I was smart enough to ask that they put the old rotors and pads in my trunk just to validate their honesty but i can't. I said why don't you just resurface my rotors and the answer was "that because they are so cheap we just replace them" if 180 (90 per rotor) is cheap to a mechanic ... how much do they make? :P He also explained to me that they mark the prices on parts ... so the total for parts alone was 252.58 ... WOW ... were online I could find them as cheap as lets just say 140 ... because I seen few online for even less than 100 for 2 rotors and 2 pads ... I understand mark up ... but this is ridiculous ... The labor was 142.80 for something that is that simple ... ouch .. finally he said .. i'll give you 50$ discount ... I said fine ... go ahead ... do the job ... I get back to my car look at the bill ... the discount is 46.89 ... hehe. Overall very polite and nice guy but I rather go somewhere where I don't feel like I'm being nicked for every dollar ... read more

Went to have work done on our car for the first time yesterday, after searching for a new mechanic and reading the reviews. I'm very pleased to say that they are even better than the reviews! They checked our transmission and every other system in the car thoroughly. It feels wonderful to have finally found people of integrity and skill to work on our car. Aaron was super knowledgeable and nice. The owner was also there and I immediately knew we were in the right place. We appreciated their kindness and flexibility and their overall very helpful attitude. The mechanics knew exactly how to deal with our old car and were honest about what it needed. They did not try to sell us anything that was not necessary. That's almost impossible to find in this day and age. They did great work for us and at a great price. We highly recommend! My husband and I are extremely disappointed in the level of customer service we experienced. We were told they could service our Mercedes Sprinter Van (extended version) for routine transmission service. We rearranged our work schedules to drop the van off and at 4 pm the following day my husband expected the call he received from AAMCO was to come pick up the van because service was complete. Instead he got excuses that they didn't know how long the van was and they didn't have the ability that day to make enough room in the shop to bring it in. My husband asked them if they really felt comfortable servicing the van because this seemed like a very poor excuse since they would told over the phone what the vehicle was, and they looked it up in the computer by the VIN when we dropped it off. In the end, we were inconvenienced another day rearranging our schedules to go pick up the van that wasn't even serviced. We don't understand why they didn't either say no at the time of scheduling, when they saw it at drop off or early in the day it was supposed to be serviced. The biggest frustration was leading us on that whole time and inconveniencing us. Obviously We would not trust them to do any work for us in the future. If you have a large vehicle like a sprinter van, think twice on going here. Good luck! read more

They do good work but are way too expensive. I got a $390 bill to put in a $50 rebuilt starter. After complaining the bill was $370. This is a half an hour job and should of cost $160. read more
