I don't know what to tell you other than get the full signature menu with the wine pairings. We were fortunate to be in the area during outdoor seating weather. If you can, time your reservation with the sunset for that day so you can observe it over the lake. Service is exceptional otherwise they'd not have their stars. This has been a meal we almost cried for how perfect a dish was. Highly recommended.

Aan De Poel is a 2-Michelin star restaurant located in the old part of Amstelveen, near the Gemeentehuis, and it is truly a hidden gem. Everything was amazing - the food, view, ambiance. Based on Dutch standards, it is a bit on the expensive side but having been to other Michelin star restaurants, their Chef's menu is a bargain at around 100 euros per person. I would love to come back here! One thing that wasn't so clear from their website was whether there was a dress code - the short answer is no. The vibe is effortlessly fancy and casual at the same time. Waiters wore jeans with blazers, and the chef was walking around in sneakers. Other notes - there is a bus (#241) that drops you off right outside. Otherwise there is plenty of parking in the surrounding area. Food: 5/5 We had the 6 course chef's menu, and this would be my recommendation. The menu this month was focused on seafood. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented, with interesting flavor combinations and also good serving size. Naturally, they were so delicious I could have eaten a whole pot of any of the dishes, but unlike some fancy places, I left the restaurant very full and very happy. One fun thing is that if you order coffee or tea at the end, they roll up a cart with sweets you can choose from to go with your drink. So delicious! Service: 4/5 The service was very good, and our waitress was very attentive. Minus 1 point here because it took a bit longer to get the bill because they were busy with a wedding reception in the back. Atmosphere: 5/5 The restaurant is right on the water, and there is an outstanding view of the lake and sunset. I highly recommend sitting outside if it is warm. Value: 5/5 The chef's menu was 100 euros/pp, and I think that is a bargain for the quality you get.

This is just the god of culinary experience. Pls don't miss it. Restaurant is 2* and lives upto it's standard. Had been there several times in the past, however the best experience was during the covid times, they have this lovely drive in experience. Went in with 0 expectations and it just blew my mind off. You are asked to sit in your comforts of your car, your music and ur serverd with a 4 course delicious meal. Wow! I would take in any shit to sit in a restaurant, but being served a delicious Michelin star food is simply outstanding. Kudos to the team who are so attentive in making sure ur are being served appropriately and ur drinks are full ;). Love it. Will be back and people don't miss it. On the whole the whole experience takes about 3-4 hrs of unforgettable moments. They even give us this little lamp to improve the ambience. If ur having a tesla don't forget to turn on your romance fire place ;)

2 star Michelin restaurant hence expectations are raised. Simply one of the best taste experience I ever had. Had the six dishes menu, combinations of fish, meat, vegtables. Just fantastic, perfect taste combinations, stunning presentation. Each dish is like a little present.

I have tried: Fish salad (amazing!!!), chicken salad (was good) and the burger (very flavourful! loved it!) about $15 per person if one of you decides to have a glass of wine with the lunch. To be honest this is my favorite place in this neighborhood...

Would it be too corny to say: Oliver's, Olive-you now?…read more The way to my little yelpey heart is: 1) food 2) at least pretending you care about what I think 3) good service. Happy to say that after an initial disappointment with what I found to be an overpriced salad, Oliver's has redeemed itself! As per my earlier review, I began the night drinking with colleagues, unsponsored by work, unfortunately. It was pointed out that the beer prices are actually very reasonable (I don't notice if work is paying...). The service was prompt and friendly - no easy feat in Amsterdam! Rare were the moments when our glasses went dry or our mouths were left without crunchy, deep-fried goodness. My boyfriend and I stayed for dinner and each had the ribeye steak. The chef kindly accommodated my weird request to have polenta with my steak instead of fries and wow was I glad he did! The steak was good quality and served with a variety of veg. It could have done with a tad more seasoning or more of the red wine jus it came with, but overall, delightful. The polenta was amazing! It is fried, so no health points here but the crispy outside with a creamy centre - I think there was a hint of parmasan in there - was divine. Later in the meal, the chef got creative with dessert, giving me both white and dark chocolate cake. What more could a girl ask for? I'm glad I gave Oliver's a second chance. We had a great conversation with the manager Halpert after our meal and it's clear that Oliver's and Co. take customer service very seriously. I will gleefully drink AND eat here to excess in future. :)

If you are sharing a meal with someone, get items from a different prix-fixe menu and you can both try a variety of items. I'm not sure if desserts are the Dutch's strengths, except maybe the Dutch apple pie. They even bottle their own house beer. The restaurant is small. Try to make a reservation if you can. We didn't have a reservation, but went to the restaurant at around 5PM and were seated in about 15 minutes. At times, the line could get very long, but the staff is still welcoming and ensures that everyone gets served...eventually.

Absolutely spectacular meal from start to finish at Bolenius…read more As part of our vacations, we like to dine at a michelin star restaurant for at least one meal. I am a little bit restricted by my vegetarian diet which is what ultimately directed us to Bolenius as they have a plant-based option. If you're visiting Amsterdam as a tourist, it's a bit of a trek from the city center but pretty quick and easy to get there by the metro, which was our mode of transportation. Our reservation was at 7pm but it was such an incredible experience, we literally did not leave the place until, I want to say like 10:30pm. The interior decor is unique and vibes with the brand pretty well. The service was excellent from start to finish. It is definitely a team effort as we interacted with many different servers who were all kind, wonderful, and welcoming. Everything was thoroughly explained to us. I went the vegetarian tasting menu route and GF did the standard tasting menu. We also accepted most of the additional add ons like wine pairing, their recommended beet dish, and cheese selection at the end of the meal. I was grateful to see a variety of ingredients used for the vegetarian menu instead of just the standard mushrooms 100 times over and over again that is common at other establishments. They also employed many different textures and innovative presentations to the dishes including the foam, which I'm pretty sure is required for a restaurant to get a star, but also things like a shaved and latticed ASPARAGUS dish. The dishes were, as you would probably expect, like works of art. Like I said above, I have somewhat of a history dining at Michelin starred restaurants but I think it's safe to say that this was the best experience I have ever had and cannot recommend it enough.

There was no attempt made by the staff to rectify this in any way, whatsoever. I understand that these things happen. Any attempt at a genuine apology would have prevented me from writing this review. There wasn't an offer of a beverage, or any discount to the meal. They could have chosen not to charge us for the two bottles of water. There was an optional course ordered which I attempted to cancel (naturally, I lost my appetite after seeing a live insect crawling in the second course), which they informed me that they could not cancel without charging me. They could have offered the extra course for free. There was the option to add a spoon of caviar to another dish for extra charge. I explicitly asked whether that could be on the house, you know, given the aforementioned insect on a previous course. Not only was this denied, the server did not even bother to acknowledge the comment. Lastly, when the check arrived, I informed them that there was zero attempt made to rectify the mistake of the insect. All we got was an apology that the staff was not able to pick up on the signals of our dissatisfaction- as if the bug, the request to cancel the optional dish free of charge, the willful ignorance over the caviar, and my complaint after getting the bill were not enough. Even without the insect incident, the food was phenomenally subpar for this city. My recommendation would be to never visit this restaurant. The food is terrible, the conditions are unsanitary, and the service is appalling.

As you're walking in.. you wonder if you've stumbled into a completely different realm. It was small, big enough only for around 25 seats but it feels warm and welcoming, with great mood lighting. The staff were attentive and nothing was too much to ask. We ended choosing 3 courses with extra oysters to start and matching wines. Starting with bubbly to match the oysters, white wine to match the entree of mackerel, then red to match the main meat dish, and to finish- a sweet dessert wine with some sweet dessert. All of the sweetness was topped with grated chestnut, that had every person licking their plates clean. Even though we were a rather large and boisterous group, everyone was attended to and looked after. I was also watching the staff interact with the other tables (big and small) and they too looked as at ease as we did. All in all, it was the perfect Friday night find.
