So Good, So Creative, it's Crazy... If you've not experienced Dan and Aardvark at Snoqualmie Pass, you're in for an experience. The big question: how can a literal "hole in the wall" become an institution in a town? Answer: excellent, creative food and a wonderful proprietor who loves his craft and really cares about his customers. If you spend any time at Aardvark, you'll get the drift; locals and repeat customers pouring in, filling up, dropping off, chatting it up and leaving with a smile. And at the center of it all - Dan the Man - a whirlwind in the kitchen, dazzling with new delights and always open to new suggestions and additions to his truly eclectic menu. Who ever heard of a bacon pancake drenched in vanilla ice cream? (the "Avalanche") or a Blue Cheese Burrito? But if you're willing to try some of Dan's creations, you'll be happy you did. My favorite and the dish that put the place on everyone's map - the "Hurry Curry," - phenomenal layers of deliciousness soaked in coconut curry. I've often found myself full, but unable to stop eating - down to the bottom of the container and the very last morsel of curry-infused rice. Fantastic! So, bottom line, if you're anywhere near the Pass (and for us now, it's anywhere within a 30 minute drive), you just have to stop, check in, say hello and prepare to be amazed. I don't live near the pass, but it's a great place to stop on a travel to find good food and a clean restroom. You need to go up another block from the public restrooms to the gas station by the hotel, and look for a little wooden hut with a greenhouse thingie close by (sometimes open, sometimes under a cover). The first time I came I found it by accident; I was taking a pit stop and went a'walking. I saw a big sign outside and the word Curry lures me in every time. I wasn't even hungry; it wasn't even mealtime; but it was FAB. I have eaten a lot of curries, and I don't know exactly how to categorize this one (some help?), but it's excellent. There was some young employee passing the food out the window, and there wasn't much talking. The second time I came was between 6-12 months later. The hurry curry was even better, if you can believe that. It was also a little less spicy this time, which is a bummer at my house but a blessing on the road when drinking MORE water slows ya down. ;) This time I met the owner, Dan. What a detail-oriented, intelligent, and customer-focused man! We had a nice chat and he even asked me about my own little business and offered to stock some business cards (next time, I'll have some on hand!). Pros: fabulous food, sincerely friendly owner Cons: once you fall in love with one dish, how do you break away and try another if you only come once a year? I bet everything on the menu is this great: Foodie's dilemma. Suggestions: Since we're traveling long distance in the car, can we get TWO recloseable containers, with the cake/cabbage/herbs in the second one? This is so they don't get soggy as we travel, and so we can reheat the leftovers for dinner later and not have to microwave the greens. Don't let the trailer fool you, this is seriously good food. When I spotted the food truck (trailer?) next to our car while my friend was pumping gas, I thought someone was trying to sell store-bought food to gullible out-of-towners. As a joke more than anything, my friend and I decided to see what the trailer had to offer. I can't believe I nearly passed up this food to go rooting around in the gas station for a sandwich. You can get curry. Served out of a trailer parked at a Chevron station. In the middle of a national forest. And it's absolutely unbelievable. If I lived in Seattle I'd drive the hour each way just to get it. We stopped for gas on the way to a couple nights of shows at the Gorge, and made a point to stop on the way back down to Seattle. Dapper Dan the Aardvark Man! You really can't get more "local" than this highway hideaway. After a long day of enjoying the Pass there really isn't a better place for a quick refuel before returning the grind of the low lands. My recommendation: ascend the steps of the "the cabin," order the curry, chat with Dapper Dan and take your food outside to the picnic table. If you face to the southwest you can easily forget that you are in a gas station parking lot. Take in the sights, enjoy your food, play some horse shoes and chat it up with some of Snoqualmie Pass' hardcore locals... if you're wicked nice they might even let you in on a secret shred stash or a hidden mountain bike ride... maybe. read more

What I thought would be a quick bite for lunch turned out to be a 60 minute stop over for a bagel & cream cheese, the Brie burger and a Mac Dog. After 15 minutes the bagel came first followed after 15 minutes for the Brie burger and as she handed it to me, I told her we were waiting for the Mac dog. That was meant with an "O" - as in you ordered that? Crap. 20 minutes later my son get his hot dog. While waiting for the last of the three of our meals I went to the store to get waters for us and the cook was getting a lemon Gatorade, a Mikes Hard Lemonade, and a mini vodka. Definitely one of the more unique eating experiences I've had in a long while, and I mean that in the best way. Was driving to Yakima from Seattle and needed to make a pit stop and happened to find this place next to the gas station. It's essentially a shack in the parking lot of the garage with some quaint outdoor seating. Food was amazing and unique! So many unique dishes I didn't know what to pick. I went with the Blue Mountain wrap which is HUGE and ultra tasty and satisfying. Fresh ingredients, surprising flavors (idk what the Mountain sauce they use but it made mouth happy). If you're driving through the Snoqualmie pass this is a must stop if you're stomach is grumblin for some good eats. read more

After hiking the Gold Coast trail, my daughter and son-in-law recommended this hole in the wall place in Snoqualmie. My wife and son-in-law ordered the hurry curry. After not being acknowledged from a local restaurant when trying to get a table and finding nothing appetizing at the local deli, we decided to try our bets on this food truck by the gas station. We were not only greeted by a confident chef with smiles and inspiring conversation, but the food was fabulous! I had the blue cheese breakfast burrito - seriously the best breakfast burrito I have ever had. Who would have thought a breakfast burrito could stand out so much...? I only wish I could get one in Seattle. My boyfriend had the curry and it was also delicious! I was surprised to find such great food out of a little mobile home/food truck, but was so pleased and would recommend it to anyone. Heading from Bellevue I m a snowy day just to have his amazing Coconut chicken curry! But first a stop at Dru's Brus Brewery across the street! This awesome brewery has no food( just snacks)so, order from Aardvark and eat it inside the brewery. They encourage it! Even the bartenders all love Aardvark! It is worth a drive into the snow to play in the winter, or a summer hike on the wild flower blanketed ski slopes outside his food stand. This is GOOD food folks!!!
