We arrived in Oahu on friday and made arrangements on Saturday to dive on sunday on a "triple dip" with Dave. I got to meet Jack Aaron (owner) later that day. The staff was AWESOME. We met at the dive shop and followed them to the dive site at 6am. The staff of Yeshua, Liz, and Chelsea worked tirelessly to make sure our experience was fabulous. Captain Steve of the Charter boat, was equally up to the task. They also made videos and took photos of the dive so we will have a record of it long after we leave. I have worked with multiple dive companies on Oahu and in diving places across the Pacific, but this crew was the best of recent memory. The guy who led our group (last name Taylor) was a very nice guy. But it went down hill from there. We spent 15 to 20 minutes at the bottom of the anchor waiting. Turns out my wife didn't have enough weight, but this a problem that should have been fixed quickly. She got so tired she gave up and sat out the dive. Taylor then literally towed a newbie around which slowed down what time remained. The 2nd dive my daughter got down the anchor line and her tank had not been swapped out. Granted we're all supposed to check that but the 2 dive masters should never have let that happen. Our dive was by then under way so Megan sat out the dive. As a group we missed 2 full dives out of the 6 we paid for. Then we lost a guy. We were pretty sure he got mixed into another dive boat's group but for 15 tense minutes we did not know were he was. Maybe this shop has had a good record,l but our experience could best be described as sub par. read more

Aarons dive shop was the first dive company that I ever dove with, and four years later I still sive with them. They have a very friendly staff who are friendly and very helpful. The only few problems with this safe and laid back shop is that their equipment is somewhat worn down and the boats, mainly in Hawaii Kai, can feel unsafe during rougher seas. Although the boats can be a little uneasy, the captains of the boats are very friendly and offer you sodas and a dry place to put your towels and such. If you're not a person who cares about the equipment (which may be worn, but is still safe and ok for use) then this is a great place to go. They know all the secret dive spots and can show you same amazing and very hard to find aquatic animals on the dives. read more

This dive shop has been around for many years and really has their stuff together. Their instructors are knowledgable and helpful. The shop is well stocked and located in the heart of Kailua. They offer great dives around the island and their boats are awesome, especially for Oahu. I got my advanced diver certification here in 2007 (based on someone else's recommendation) and I continue to dive with the Aaron's crew. I always feel safe when diving with them. All you have to do is ask (the shop, the captains, the instructors) and they will help you out however they can. After getting hung up on by the store manager when we asked for our dive club money back, we sent an email to the owner, Jack, about all the problems we were having with his instructor and manager. Jack couldn't have been more professional and helpful. Clearly HE is the the reason this shop has been in business as long as it has. He told us that neither the manager nor the instructor had the authority to "ban" us, especially since we had done nothing wrong. So despite the problems I mentioned in my previous review (trying to charge us more for night dives, not letting us reschedule 21 hours before the dive, and showing up late the to the boat), we will still continue to dive with this company. It seems that the problem is not with Jack or his company, but this one dive instructor. Now that Jack is aware of the problem, I'm sure he will handle it properly and his company will continue to thrive. Here are the reasons you should dive with Aaron's: 1. They go to great dive sites! They hit up spots in Waianae and Hawaii Kai with great dives and do very cool special dives for their dive club members. 2. They'll drive you there for free! You can either meet at the shop or get picked up from your hotel in Waikiki. We usually go to the shop because we live in Kaneohe and we can save on gas, plus enjoy the lively conversation with the other divers on the way to the site. It's a great option and really reflects their desire to provide good customer service. 3. The captains are terrific! On every boat we've gone on, the captains have been so professional and helpful. The day I had to dive with strep throat, the captain took extra care getting me out of the water because I was so weak. You would think all dive captains would be like this, but I tell you it is not the norm! Some captains just totally ignore the divers so it's very refreshing to have this kind of service. 4. Nitrox is included with your club membership! This is the BOMB! At other companies, it's like $12/nitrox tank so that adds up really fast if you're adding it to all your dives. Here we can get nitrox on both dives (in 32 or 36) for free. Awesome, awesome! 5. Jack is the best and has a true commitment to his customers that you rarely see. We have had an AWFUL experience with his instructor, but Jack has really done his best to correct the situation. I have so much respect for that kind of service, which is why I've amended this review so drastically. And we don't fault the manager either as he was just believing what the instructor said about us trashing the company. It's normal to want to think the best of your employees and not think they're lying about your customers. The manager, Dave, was helpful in sorting out our problem with the night dive up-charge and, in general, he seeks to find good resolutions to problems. Overall, this is one of the best dive companies we've found on any of the islands. The really put DIVING first and go the extra mile to make sure you have a good time. We look forward to fun-filled years of diving with them! read more

My wife and I Went to Aaron's to get PADI certification. Every step of the experience went very well. The store staff was very helpful with gear, scheduling, tips and advice, etc. We had the same dive instructor for all dives and it was just us for all certification dives so the personal attention was exceptional. Open water dives 3 and 4 were off a boat in Hawaii Kai and the staff and boat crew was very personable and professional. I was in Kailua, partially with the intention of earning my DiveMaster certification. I was more than fortunate enough to have Aaron's Dive Shop on the windward side of the island. From the moment I set foot in the shop until my final goodbye's I couldn't have asked for higher quality service from literally EVERY single person in the shop. They go above an beyond the PADI standards and, as a divemaster candidate, was able to be both the customer, and staff-assistant. The hidden gem in this shop is 1. New Ownership as of about 12/2014. A new motivated, owner ready to propel the oldest dive shop in Oahu to the next level 2 The Course Director. Larry has over 40 years of diving experience, is a former marine officer, and has more years of experience teaching PADI courses than most of us are alive. He is an excellent instructor, patient, fair, and understanding. Safety isn't just 1st, it's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. 3. The Shop Manager. Also a former marine. He is able to give personal attention to everyone who came into the shop, even during the extremely busy holiday season. 4. Customer Service. I only saw a 6 week window, however cannot ssay that I ever heard or saw one dissatisfied customer while there. I am truly happy to yelp about Aarons Dive shop since my previous encounter with another dive company Reef Pirates left me devastated and crying on the first day of my scheduled 3 day certification course which I didn't even get to start because the owner of the company was arguing and making me feel like a burden. (didn't even have me on the pickup schedule that day when I arranged it 2 weeks prior but his excuse was that the worker doesnt work there anymore and went on and on) Anyhoo.. now for better experiences. That day I went online and found Aarons Dive shop and actually remembered hearing about them. I called and talked to Kit who was soooo accomodating..the 3 day course certification was flexible.. she scheduled me in the next day and my open dives didnt have to be in succession. They had their Padi packet that came with a dvd when the other place didn't even have one and I truly wonder how students that go through Reef were to study with incomplete resources?.I actually went in that day to pay for the course and met Kit she was sooo helpful and cheerful helping me set up with my mask and snorkel. I also got to meet Braunwyn the store manager who helped me by gear on another day and she wasnt pushy or seeking to make a expensive sale. Anyways, the next day after I signed up I was in class and poolside with Larry.. he is the BOMB! He has soo much experience and was soo fun and nice to work with. He was highly experienced and had so much patience and a cool jolly attitude, I didn't feel pressured or pushed learning things. He was truly like FAMILY someone you know and feel comfortable with. The next two open dives I was able to dive with Jeff and Mel. Who were a great dynamic team. I mostly dove with Mel but all I can say is her relaxed composure, knowledge , patience and demeanor truly made me feel safe to dive with her and wanting to dive with her. We did a 2 tank dive with Jake and it was a great experience! When we got there they had all of our gear organized and labeled in individual bags so it was easy to get ready and on the boat. Once we got on the boat, all of our stuff was waiting for us there. They made it very easy for us to enjoy the dive experience and not be so focused on the little things. read more

I came here when I wanted to go scuba diving for the first time and needed gear. The guy (Chris, I think? Not sure) Was awesome. He really helped me out. He also didn't make me feel stupid for my lack of experience about diving. The best part was, they have a printer I haven't seen sense I was a kid!! They still use the old printers with pink paper that you have to rip off the ends!! I didn't even know they still sold those lol. But for real, great place. read more

I came by Aaron's to rent a few air tanks. There were 4 staff in the store; however, only one interacted with me and was exceptionally angry at me for not coming by at least an hour before they close (a policy that has never been previously noted to me). This member of their staff was very frustrated that I was there 15 minutes before close for what is a standard dive shop operation, renting air tanks for 24 hours. None of the other staff at the store helped this employee. No one offered to help me carry my tanks to the car or even to get the door for me. When I returned the tanks, there were two large dogs at the shop that continually jumped up on me while I was carrying my used tanks in. Again, no staff offered to help me or attempted to manage the large dogs. If you were hoping for decent customer service, I'd suggest going elsewhere. read more

Great dive. On time with a pick-up from Hale Koa. Well prepared and knowledgeable. Captain Nate is personable and laid back. Took the time to ensure 100% compliance with USCG regulations for safety. Dive guides Lauren and Jake were helpful and accommodating to divers of varying skill levels. The crew took care of all our gear, switched our tanks between dives and ensured maximum enjoyment with minimal admin. Saw numerous fish, sea turtles, white-tipped reef shark, morays and even an octopus. Very pleased. read more

Really enjoyed my dive with crew from Aaron's. it's been awhile since I've been diving and they were very helpful, patient, and friendly. I have all my own equipment and after I put everything together they carried it all on board and got me set up. In between dives I was helped as much as I needed and the crew had me set up for the next dive in a jiffy. After the dive they brought everything back to the docks and loaded it onto their van. Steve (boat Captain), Jeff (the instructor), and the Dive Master were all great. Only small criticism is that the boat is pretty small and the dry area on the boat was fairly cramped for space. Otherwise, a great afternoon dive with friendly and knowledgable staff. read more

Last weekend my husband and I went in to purchase some equipment. We live here; we told the sales associate that I have had a difficult time finding a mask that fits and the sales associate seemed confident that she could find one to fit. We purchased a mask along with several other pieces of equipment. We tried it out yesterday. Everything was perfect except for the mask. It leaked. My husband called today requesting to return the mask. The sales associate said that they do not accept returns and didn't even offer to exchange the mask for another one. No one said the return policy and it is not on the receipt. Poor customer service; just looking to make a sale and not stand behind their product. read more

I traveled to Kailua last week for a family reunion and I was on Oahu for 9 days. Before my trip I tried to contact Aaron's Dive Shop 2 weeks in advance to ask a few simple questions and reserve a spot on their boat for several consecutive days/dives. I spent several days in advance geting my gear ready for the trip and I had read several good reviews about Aaron's Dive Shop online; not bothering to contact any other dive shops on the island. NO ONE at Aarons Dive Shop had the decency to reply to my email and I lost the chance to reach out to another shop; not wanting to travel with my gear before coordinating dives with another dive shop on the island. Needless to say not only am I disappointed that they DID NOT CARE ENOUGH to respond to a simple email. I also MISSED a chance to dive Oahu all together. Aaron's Dive Shop must be full of self fullfilled individuals that don't believe in customer service and a good line of communication with paying customers. I have experience great diving all over the world and this shop is the worst dive I never experienced! Went in there to see what kind of gear they had, because we had just moved over here and we love to dive. We were set on just checking out what they had. $200 later, we had new masks and snorkels. Went on a 2 tank dive yesterday and had a great time with Aaron's dive shop. It was easy booking, and made sure I got on a trip that suited my needs. The surge was rough yesterday making it not the most optimal conditions for diving but I felt in good hands with the crew members. Due to the rough conditions, unfortunately we didn't see that much wildlife, but I can't blame the dive shop for that, only the gusty winds taking over oahu these past few weeks. The rental equipment was in good condition and working order. After the dive, they even made sure I got home safely with all my gear, which is what pushed this dive shop above the rest. read more

I am so freaking happy I decided to grow some balls and try scuba diving. I called Monday to see if there was an opening today and there was! I was nervous since I was going without my friends but after meeting the instructors and the fellow scuba guys I felt like I was one of the pack. I was nervous just because the guys were saying the saw sharks the day prior but I also know the super low percentage of people that actually get attacked. First off when I walked into Aaron's dive shop multiple employees greeted me and welcomed me and helped me get more excited for the adventures that lay ahead. Then we all jumped into the can and took off. In the can I got some basic instructions which were repeated until I understood and felt comfortable with them. Then we arrived at the dive site and the guys unloaded everything and showed me how to get dressed (nothing says sexy like a wet suit ) anywho from there we got on the boat had some more safety instructions then got the rest of our great on and dove away. I loved that we got to see two different sites, one being with the turtles which is what I truly wanted to see and I saw tons!!! We saw dozens of different fish. Even with it being a cloudy day it was one of the best things I've ever done. If you are even just thinking about going DO IT & DO IT WITH AARONS DIVESHOP!!!! read more

Just dove with Jake yesterday for an advanced wreck dive and shallow dive. Everything about the experience was smooth. I called the day before to reserve, was given clear instructions about showing up and what would happen. I arrived on time and went across the street for coffee, then hopped in the van to the dive spot. Boated out to the sunken ship and saw some rays, a giant turtle, a smaller turtles, schools of fish including barracuda and tons more. Second spot had a octopus, which was cool. Would highly recommend this dive shop and dive master Jake. Only suggestion for the shop is maybe some instant coffee for the boat ride. They did offer snacks and water so it was all good.
