I got hit around both wrists and my thighs, and the pain was honestly over a 10 -- it felt like I was on fire. Several years ago, I bought a Sting No More kit at Go Bananas and have carried it around with my ocean gear ever since. I'd never actually needed to use it until today. I used the spray and cream, and I couldn't believe the difference. The pain dropped from over a 10 to about a 3-4 very quickly, and in less than 45 minutes it was completely gone. Sting No More came out of jellyfish-sting research right here at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, which makes it even better. And the craziest part is that after carrying my kit around for several years, I'm pretty sure it was actually expired -- and it STILL worked amazingly well. If you live in Hawaiʻi or spend a lot of time in our ocean, I highly recommend picking up a kit and throwing it in your beach bag. Hopefully you'll carry it around for years and never need it. But after what happened today, I can tell you I'll never be without one again.

John at Go Bananas kayak rental strapped a long kayak with a skeg to my car. I drove off his parking lot, and arrived at the He'eia Kea Boat Harbor. On a windy and rainy day in November I rented a long kayak with a skeg, and John showed me how to strap it to the car I was driving. I drove to He'eia Kea Boat Harbor, and launched off the Kaneohe Canoe Club, towards where I thought the sunken sandbar at Kaneohe Bay would be found. For my entire trip inching forward in that direction I was alone in the foreboding ocean, or rather they bay. But from my low vantage points, it looked as if I were in the middle of the deep ocean with breaking waves under me and dark clouds above me. John told me to aim for Kapapa Island, and he was right. Because as far as I could tell from my kayak it was just dark water all around me, except for that tiny speck of an island. All other boats I saw and thought to be tourist boats anchored at the sandbar all turned out to be decoys - they were docked so closed to shore in retrospect. Many a times I thought I'd reached the sandbar only to find empty boats in dark and deep water. Many more times I thought of turning back - it could be frightening being out there alone, even if I was prepared with all available safety devices. But I kept going. Then I sensed a change in water color. Shortly the sun poked its head out of the cloud. And magic happened. The sea all around me turned turquoise as soon as sunrays touched them, revealing that I was mere inches above sand now. I soon found a lone stand-up paddler lying supine on his board, drinking beer. I also ran into a birthday party dinning around a table half-submerged in water. Then Captain Bruce's boat showed up, dumping lots of merrymakers onto the sandbar. Now that I know the place, I would have no issues coming back again and finding it, next time. In some of the videos you will find dark clouds raining on entire towns, while I filmed the shore from the sandbar. That gives you a sense of how far the sandbar is from shore.

Go to his tiny rented space on Mokauea St. to see for yourself. Many 'Backyard' operations have better facilities than his which is bare-bones at that. He is a one-man operation doing everything himself which is an indication of the volume of work he's asked to do these days. He shapes mainly by eye, racing toward completion while rarely utilizing measuring tools to confirm specifications are met to the buyers' order. His glassing work is super heavy which he rationalizes is what makes his boards stronger and less vulnerable to breakage in heavy conditions. This is fine if you don't mind a classic 'tank' board. However, if you seek a performance board that's built to your specifications, go elsewhere as that's an incongruent concept to KG.

Flight boards Hawaii is operated by Keff C., it's located on Channel st., right across of Restaurant Row. It's very easy to find. It is better to call Keff first to make an appointment especially if you're going on the weekend as the building is secured. I heard about this place by word of mouth, then checked out their website. When I called and spoke with Keff he was super cool, polite, easy to talk to and easy to schedule an appointment with. I had in mind which longboard I was leaning to. When I got their Keff was very helpful and just totally honest on what would most likely fit how I surf instead of pushing me in another direction just for profit, he also made things easy by having all the accessories I needed for my board in stock! A one-stop-shop is not just a figure of speech when you come to Flight Boards Hawaii. The prices here are reasonable and totally down to earth! I got set up with the 9'-1" Makaha Epoxy Longboard, board sock, Day bag, and 6.5" box fin... all in a single visit. I need to also mention that the Flight brand Day Bags have a unique design that allows space for the sidebites and a Velcro opening for the box fin instead of a zipper. This allows the fin to be sealed from both ends. In all honestly this review is based on just meeting Keff for the first time and going down to Flight Boards and just simply checking it out. Like I said it's a cool little shop, its laid back, has a vast selection of boards and lots of friendly knowledge!
