I had a great experience with Aaron's Dive Shop. The conditions were not the greatest for diving but Scott and Nate made sure they did everything they could to make the dives enjoyable. I hope to dive with them again in the near future. The staff in the shop is extremely friendly as well. I had my son with me and Sarah went out of her way to entertain him while I was shopping. I've had two experiences with Aaron's Dive Shop and both have been great. My first experience was when I went to their anniversary sale. They had a really good deal on a dive computer and after doing a little research online their deal was better than anything I could find online. I purchased it that day and the person helping me was very informative and helpful. My second experience was a few weeks ago. I purchased the Living Social deal and used it on their Corsair dive. When I first got to the harbor they greeted me and took my equipment to the boat. They were so helpful and kept everyone informed of how to exit and enter the boat. After our first dive they offered us water and snacks. Then after our second dive they offered us warm towels. I would definitely recommend them and I would definitely do another dive with them. read more

My family and I recently went on a dive trip with Aaron's Dive Shop and we were not impressed. The biggest reason for this is because the boat and dive master were late. We were told to meet at 7:15am and our dive master didn't arrive until 7:45am. Life happens (dive master had car trouble), but it would have been a better experience to receive a phone call notifying us or some sort of apology after the fact. The whole trip felt extremely rushed (not much detail about dive sites/marine life and not enough help with getting equipment ready) because there was another charter after us. Until our first dive with Aaron's (yesterday), my boyfriend and I had never scuba dived before. I was definitely nervous... mostly worried about unpredictable marine life sightings and breathing normally underwater but the educated, confident, and calm staff made me feel comfortable. Dive instructor Patrick helped me with the skills/ my breathing when we jumped in the water and made sure I was ok. I was pretty much good to go after that. I felt very safe with this team of divers; Patrick didn't leave our side. So happy I decided to do this. The highlights were seeing a bunch of sea turtles on the first dive (35-40 ft) and a spotted eagle ray on the second (20 ish ft)! Thanks for 2 wicked dives guys! Ever have that experience at a restaurant where the waiter or waitress is just the right kind of fun and friendly and the right kind of there when you need them? That was the kind of service I experienced diving with Aaron's crew today. I happened to have an unfortunate case of seasickness on the way to the dive site but figured it would go away after I jumped in. I struggled with nausea on the initial attempt at descent and suddenly appears vigilant Chelsea with some simple helpful advice. Smoothing it out, nausea subsided. Soon however, it became apparent that buoyancy issues required more weight...where did she come from? Lickety split, Chelsea ascends and returns with more weight to put in my vest. Perfect. Now I'm cruising, taking in the awesome scenery. But wait, my left fin is coming loose. My dive buddy starts to help then offers his fin before working on mine. Chelsea or was it Liz? or both? descend upon us. I believe it was Chelsea who replaced my dive buddy's fin with her own and with some quick musical fin action, I look up to see Chelsea ascending with her one fin and the faulty one in tow. She's back with the group in no time, calm and at the ready. Uh oh. I have the worst, sudden and new onset of nausea which I try to breathe through. But I cannot lie, it freaked me out a little as I had never lost my cookies through a regulator before. I was fearful of how all that might go down (or out or up) and so signaled to return to the surface. My dive buddy and good man that I love got my signal and motioned for yet another dive master at the ready, Yeshua. I was taken calmly to the anchor line and helped to ascend safely. After making it to the top, I must give a shout out to that man I love as, unbeknownst to me he ascended too, just for support (UDABEST!) Yeshua hung around to make sure I was handed off in good order. Enter Steve, the very apt and accommodating boat captain. Again, just the right amount of 'there when you need them.' No helicoptoring, no MIA. Just right. Not the best dive day for me but made all the better by the professionalism of this good crew. They knew how to have fun but kept their eye on the serious business of diving. Thanks again everyone! read more

I've been bringing my business to Aaron's for over a year now. However my experience with them today has been awful. I have three diving friends who wanted to dive today. Planning the day before, all charters were booked so we decided to shore dive. Called Aaron's to see if we could rent gear and tanks from them (three divers needed gear). Aaron's said it would be no problem. Fast forward to today, I waited 20 minutes for a grumpy,late employee to open shop. Asked to rent gear for the day and he informed me they didn't have enough regulators to outfit my three friends. Extremely Disappointing. Diving today is a bust. If you don't have enough gear to rent out, inform your customers. Huge waste of time. Rent dive gear elsewhere. read more

After a successful dive with Aaron's the day before, the next day the dive master did not pick me up from my hotel. The shop tried repeatedly to call him and he refused to answer his cell phone until he got to the boat. It ruined my day. My guess is that he was running late and skipped me to makeup time. The shop offered a weak sorry and gave the impression they would keep him on which leaves the customers not knowing if this is going to happen to them. read more

DO NOT DIVE WITH AARON'S DIVE SHOP!!!!! We bought the living social deal for Aaron's dive shop because we thought it would be worth the money and we live in Hawaii so we figured we could schedule it any time. We (my husband, my sister, our friend and I) all bought the deal and scheduled our dive for today, Saturday January 14, 2012. When we scheduled the dive, the male on the phone gave us detailed instructions about where to meet the dive master at Waianae Harbor and specified to be there by 730. We got up early (we live in Pearl Harbor, so it's not exactly a quick drive) and were at the harbor, in the exact spot we were told by 715-720, with plenty of time to spare before the boat was to take off. We didnt see anyone around so just decided to wait a while (people here do live on Hawaiian time, after all) When we called the dive shop at about 7:45, they said that the boat had already left and they would call us back later in the day to explain what had happened. They did not call back, and we had to call them. They claim that the boat waited "until 5 to 8" to leave the harbor, but we know this was false since we had called the shop before then and they claimed the boat had already left at that time. They also told us that we were waiting in the wrong spot, even though that is what the sales associate on the phone had told me. We got no apology and were told we would get no refund. We were not even allowed to reschedule, we can only receive a slight discount if we decide to book with them again. ABSOLUTELY NOT!! When you are booked for an excursion like this, it is the responsibility of the dive master(s) to make sure everyone is present, and they could have walked around to find us (the boat harbor is not that big in Waianae), or at the very least called. They had our numbers! Maybe we had gotten lost on the way and it is just a nice courtesy. The guy on the phone was also very rude to me. Even when we explained that my husband is leaving on deployment next week, and we cannot schedule another dive before then, he offered us no compensation. I've also recently read other reviews of Aaron's that are extremely negative (i.e. dive masters not even getting in the water with the divers, not being considerate of the safety of the divers, etc.) DO NOT BOOK WITH AARON'S DIVE SHOP. We will never do it again. We just wasted hundreds of dollars on a wasted day. read more

Aaron's is simply the best there is when it comes to diving on Oahu, whether it be for fun dives, certification, or continuing education. After my initial Open Water Diver certification, my dive buddy and I took the Emergency First Responder course combined with the Emergency Oxygen Provider course. Despite tights schedules, Jeff (our course instructor) communicated with us extremely well and went completely out of his way to accommodate our hectic calendars. The instruction was top-notch (and I say that as a professional educator myself) with Jeff taking all the time necessary to explain everything thoroughly, answer any and all questions, and ensure our skills were solid. Because we combined the two courses we were actually given a discount, and all our cert information was immediately entered into the computer so that we received our cards as soon as possible. Since then we have done dives with other instructors, worked with various people in the shop, and signed up for classes. Regardless of who is helping us, the instructors and staff members always exceed expectations with their integrity, honesty, understanding, and most of all love for diving. I have been to Aaron's for every diving-related need, plagued them with questions in person and via e-mail, made all kinds of requests.... they never slip up or fail to deliver anything but the best. Every time someone asks me how they can get certified, where they should go for a boat charter, or who to ask for great advice, Aaron's is the only place I point them. I did not go on a tour and cannot comment. However, the man who served me in the store was sharp at best, or more honestly, a liar. I wanted to buy an entry level dive computer for my wife; he told me that the Suunto Zoop cost $379, which I know is rubbish - Amazon.com sell it for $279. he clearly seemed to take me for a fool; he did not have the Zoop in store and wanted to sell me the much more expensive cheapest model that he did have, for $449, which he claimed was the cheapest Oceanic make. That too is rubbish; they have an entry level model for $160!! Luckily I had done my research and knew that what he said was not right, But I still feel let down by his willingness to give false advice merely to sell what he happened to have in store. I am sure their tours are fine, but do not trust what you are told in the store. read more

We rented snorkeling gear on Sunday 10/12 set to be a week rental. Went out to snorkel the next day and my mask instantly filled with water-- tried to adjust it etc and no luck-- just kept leaking in water and would not suction. Tuesday- drove back 25 Minutes to Aaron's and swapped out the mask, still no luck with the second mask. And yes we have rented before from other shops with zero issues. They don't even give you anti fog stuff or tell you what to do. On Thursday 10/16 we returned the gear and asked for a refund.... They credited us back a measly $30 back when we spent $150. On top of that the guy told me "wow, I've never had anyone have such a problem with there mask before " in a disbelieving tone. He repeated this multiple times-- like MY FACE is the problem and not their cheap gear. Extremely disappointed in the level of service and complete lack of customer service. You definitely should have done right by your customer! We have given you business in the past, but today was the last day! Should not be implying a women's face is the problem and not even offering to help properly fit the mask. read more

Not an ethical business they are doing. It appears they do give military discounts to almost all items but when we purchased things there, we got denied w the discount. The other clerk was even asking about the discount for us, so I thought it was shady that he didn't even give us any discount on the items purchased there. That's ok though. This is the oldest Dive Shop in the state of Hawaii and is now under new ownership (Warren Murray). The store has a wide array items for Divers but MORE IMPORTANTLY, the service and commitment to taking care of the customer is outstanding. I got PADI Certified through them and the entire experience was awesome. Everything from the initial pool skills testing to the ocean skills testing / dives was exceptional. The staff was very kind, patient, funny, and dedicated to helping me become scuba certified. You will not be given a certification unless its earned through demonstration of being able to successfully complete the PADI underwater abilities - but I like that. I am looking forward to returning to Hawaii and diving with the group and highly recommend them to anyone who wants a dive excursion or to become PADI certified during their stay in Hawaii. The ocean is so clear and warm, can't think of a better place to get it done. A big plus is you will have $$$ left to spend on your vacation. Their prices are excellent! read more

Booked a dive with Aaron's expecting it to be another tourist attraction but I was wrong. The crew is experienced and the dive spots are just awesome. We had 5 people on the dive which made it personal and pleasant knowing you have someone looking over every detail... Equipment is good, crew instructions and expectations are clear and realistic. 1st dive location was a wreck, a plane that went down in 1946 pilot survived ( awesome sight once it comes in view as you decent ) 2nd location was off a reef where we saw not 1 not 2 but 3 sea turtles hanging around by the reef and swimming gently around you. Well worth it don't forget to tip the crew and pack your gopro. read more

This was my first trip to Hawaii and I happened across Aaron's Dive Shop while out shopping. Walked in and was treated with friendly and informative customer service, and plenty of quality gear. Decided to schedule a dive for 7am the next day. Met Shane at 6am at the shop and drove over to meet the boat with the rest of the divers. What a great experience! Shane was a real pro and communicated the dive plan and pre-dive brief well. The boat driver Nate was skilled at navigating and helping divers in and out of the water. I've had great experiences diving with Aaron's on two occasions, in 2009 and again in 2017, after some less-than-stellar experiences with other Oahu dive shops on previous trips. The staff is great - good captain, good crew, good dive masters, and great communication over the phone and via email, and were super flexible with us making multiple changes to our pick-up locations. The crew is super friendly and even invited us out for lunch at a local place and then arranged for us to get a ride back to our hotel with one of their employees. The ride to the dive sites (I especially recommend the Corsair wreck) is very short from Hawaii Kai, and the boat is comfortable whether full or nearly empty (they will go out with us as few as three divers). If you're in town (they will pick up a Waikiki hotels), Aaron's is the shop to dive with. read more

I just got certified for open water scuba diving with Aaron's. I learned with an instructor named Melanie, and was the only student in a private pool. She was a tough instructor by making sure that you got the skills down (and not let you get away with anything) but I appreciate it. I feel so much more confident that I'll be okay in the water. She also took the time for me to review the basic skills that I had learned three years ago when I got certified to 12 meters. She takes scuba safety very seriously, and was very patient with me. I then went on two dives with Colin and Sam. They're a fun, friendly, and laid back pair to go diving with. They may be relaxed, but Sam (dove with him) is totally professional, patient, encouraging, and I felt completely safe with him in the water. Oh, and I got certified on my birthday so Aaron's gave me a t-shirt as a small gift, which was so nice! It makes the perfect souvenir. :) read more

I, my wife, 14 y/o daughter, and 11 y/o son got PADI open water certified in Guam 4 months ago and hadn't dived since. So we only had 4 and 5 shore dives under our belts and were looking for a basic 2 tank boat dive to get refreshed and gain some more experience. Aaron's was quick to understand what we were looking for and plugged us right into their schedule. The rental equipment was good and the staff were better. Personable, laid-back, and professional. They took care of everything and looked over our shoulders just the right amount. I would have given 5 stars if the dive site was a little more exciting.However I knew before we went out it was only going to be a reef dive.Which was good enough for me.Because I needed to refresh my skills after having not dove for a while. I will update my review with the proper names when I get the chance.The instructor with the beard a former Marine corps vet.like myself was really great and super friendly. It was a small boat but it served the purpose of the dive well.The boat captain was friendly also and helped correct a mistake I made setting up my equipment. Some dive schools like to ridicule people who make mistakes. My girlfriend who doesn't dive yet.Was able to snorkel while I was diving and she also enjoyed her experience with Aaron's dive shop.The price was good also.I would definitely recommend using them. p.s. The Dive Masters were great, but the intro scuba divers limited the dive experience for the certified divers. I understand conserving resources and saving fuel, but it would be best not to mix the two very different groups. The Dive Master should provide a site map to enhance the dive. We saw at least 10 sea turtles, a huge moray, a box crab, and colorful fish on the first dive. There was an eagle ray, a tiger moray, and several nudibranchs on the second dive. The boat is old and the captain was a goofball, but he was good for laughs. read more

My boyfriend and I (who was just recently certified) chartered a boat dive with Aaron's and we were both very impressed. We had booked a dive with another dive shop on the North Shore a few days earlier and I was very disappointed with them. After our dive with Aaron's, I told my boyfriend "this is how diving is supposed to be." Ryan was our divemaster/instructor and he was very thorough, very professional, and had a very good eye (he pointed out a frogfish). There were only four people on the dive and it was nice to have lots of room and attention on the dive. My recently certified boyfriend was very comfortable on the dive given how professional the divemaster and boat captain were. I got to upgrade to Nitrox for free, which I really appreciated. I'd recommend Aaron's Dive Shop based on my experience and will choose them again for future vacations in Oahu. read more

I recently spent 2 weeks in Ohau and as I am a Irish Diver, I was looking forward to diving off Ohau and the big Island. I was staying in Kailua, so opted to drop into the local dive shop AAron's Dive Shop to book some diving. As a diving Instructor, I am well traveled, so, I was looking forward to some good diving. I like wreck and reef diving, but, my experience prompted me to avoid the Corsair wreck, as it's deep with little around to see. When you pay $130 approx for a day's diving, I like to get long dives without the need to bring back half my tank Gas. The 1st dive was on the LCU near Maunalua bay. Great dive, I was regretting that I did not opt for Nitrox as myself and my partner were the last to leave the wreck, we were approaching decompression and still had just 1100 PSI of air left. Our air consumption rates were notably better that the rest of the group, so we opted to ascend back to the surface after 40mins. However, our late return to the boat also impacted our second dive as the Surface interval was 30mins, in line with the rest of the dive group getting back in the water. With the shallower second dive 50Ft, despite the strong drift, we started hitting Deco 26mins into the dive, as I still had over 2000PSI in my tank, so opted to extend my bottom time and pay the Deco penallty. This time 3 divers started to countdown deco after 45mins of diving.We surfaced with over 700PSI after an hour dive at least. I note that the drift diving took it's toll on air usage rates for rest of diving group, but our diving experience prompted the ability to extend dive times. I did feedback my concerns on the short SI and the desire not to come back with a half tank of air on my dives so, opted to get a nitrox mix for the second dive boat outing with Aarons. The shortened SI profile was still been adopted, but we opted to extend our SI as much as possible to extend our 2nd dive of the day, even though we had a Nitrox mix. Fortunately, we were able to extend our dive time to 45mins. A dive on the Mahi@92ft and the second dive @ another LCU and aircraft wreck @78ft. Again we were the last to get back to the boat with over 800PSI of air. Great life to see, 2 great dives despite the challenge of the drift. Overall, my assessment after that experience is to advise experienced dive customers to accept high current drift conditions as norms and adjust expectations to get the best experience possible. Certainly, nitrox is a benefit, especially when the Surfaced Intervals are short compared to the Irish guidance of 2 hours and dive company expectations of certified divers air consumption rates may not fully be patient to await experienced and skilled divers to approach he 700PSI threshold. Competition between the dive shops is tight, so to get what I wanted, I chose shore diving for my next dive outings. Rented the gear quite easily and had 2 70min enjoyable reef dives @45ft. read more

My husband and I went into Aaron's to get me some new dive fins this past weekend. The experience was going well, the girl helping me was very professional and knowledgable about the products she was trying to sell me. She was very patient in letting me try different fins and boots and sizes as my shoe size is a 5 and finding anything that will fit can be difficult. I narrowed down my fins and she asked, who I am assuming was the manager, for the price of the fins. Unfortunately, when we went up to pay they rang up as $20 more! The girl proceeded to tell him that it wasn't the price he quoted and it wasn't the price she told us. His response, "I thought you were talking about the other fins... You know I can't see that far!" And yes, he said this loud enough for us to hear! Two seconds later, another customer asks him about their dive club in which he takes about 10 seconds to finish texting on his phone and then answers the customer who, poor guy is patiently waiting! Talk about awkward silence this entire time. Needless to say, we didn't purchase the fins, not because it was $20 more, but it was the principle of it all. The manager obviously saw that we were disappointed about being told one thing and then it ending up being incorrect. He didn't even apologize for the mix-up! If you're going to a quote a customer on a price, you should probably stick to it! Or if you "can't see that far", get up from your chair, DO YOUR JOB, and make sure you know what you're talking about! You just lost yourself a $200 purchase! I WILL NEVER GO TO AARONS AGAIN! Poor customer service from the "manager" and VERY unprofessional. read more
