K told me years ago how he ran his business and it always stuck with me. Facing a very sizable investment, he was the first person I reached out to. As I went through the process, he was very open and honest. He even offered for me to find my own stone and work with him on the design and setting only if I wanted. Although this is not what I ended up doing, it offered a lot of transparency and trust during the entire process. Many of the stones that I found were available online from many different sources. I could easily tell that many of the online merchants were simply posting other people's inventory and marketing them on their own websites. I found this to be a very good thing as you could compare many different stones on just a few websites and learn a great deal about the market. What you find online is a MUCH better deal than options offered in retail locations. Don't fall for what retailers say about online purchases. They want your money too. All of the stones can be verified quite easily and K helped me know how to make sure what I was interested in was verifiable and quality. He was also able to tell me about ones that were priced well compared to others that were not. Ultimately, K tracked one down for me that was offered on one or more of the sites. When the stone came in, I received the original certification that was available to view online through other sources. I have absolute confidence that I got what I paid for. Before working with Verad & Co, I felt like the industry was pretty much hit-or-miss with a lot of shady characters. I can assure you that K is very straightforward and open about his business...one of the good ones. His initial estimate for what I was looking for was very much in line with (actually less than) what I ended up paying. When I priced it in a retail establishment, I would have paid nearly double what I paid with Verad & Co. I think when people are buying engagement rings, most are so nervous and uninformed that they are a prime target for getting taken advantage of. K will take the mystery out of the process and allow you to make a clear and informed decision. People who try to get you to make a quick decision usually won't offer you the best value. Many people pay thousands more than they have to because they make a hasty decision. If someone wants a deposit to show you "certain stones" or a deposit for anything, proceed with caution. Once you put a deposit on anything, you are invested in that process and they have no incentive to getting you a good deal. If you want a great deal, work with Verad & Co. Their design work is amazing. My custom setting turned out EXACTLY as I had envisioned. Overall working with them was how I would want to be treated. It was fair and transparent, and the quality is as good as it gets. If I had to do this all over again, I would absolutely work with K at Verad & Co.

I expected to receive a quality ring and good communication throughout the process. I wanted to work with people I could trust with a ring I would wear for the rest of my life. Based on what I was told, I expected to have my ring within about eight weeks. Instead, I repeatedly found myself reaching out for updates rather than receiving proactive communication. When I finally received the ring after months of delays, the color of the white gold was not what I expected and was later confirmed by multiple independent jewelers to be outside their expectations for a ring of that age. What should have been an exciting experience became a lengthy and frustrating process. Timeline: Aug 22 Discussed the design in person and sent inspiration photos. Sept 5 Received first sketch. Sept 10 Approved design and left my ring/stones for CAD measurements. Sept 26 1:13 texted for an update. At 3:39 received the CAD rendering and approved it. Oct 1 Received a text that the wax model was ready. Oct 2 Tried on and approved the wax model. Oct 21 Received a text, "Hi, I have the 3D model of your ring. Please swing by and take a look at it. As soon as you approve it we can order your ring." This was the same model I approved on October 2. I pointed this out, I was told, "I was on vacation last week. I forgot. But yes, we ordered your ring on the 2nd." Nov 11 Called for an update. (9 weeks after design approval.) Nov 25 Called again. I was told the ring was delayed in customs. This was the first time I learned it was being made overseas. Dec 10 Emailed requesting the manufacturer, production location, and tracking information. Annette called but did not provide that information, instead citing customs and the government shutdown. (14 weeks after approval.) Dec 12 Received some additional information but still not the manufacturer or tracking details I requested. I was also told the Oct. 21 text meant the ring was already in production, despite asking me to approve a model I had already approved weeks earlier. Jan 5 Emailed again requesting an estimated completion date plus location and customs information. Jan 7 Received a call and email that the ring was ready. Jan 8 Picked up the ring. (18 weeks after approval.) March Noticed the white gold had become much more yellow than expected after only a few months. April Two independent jewelers confirmed the color was not what they would expect. May 5 Returned to the store. Ashley agreed the color was not expected and offered complimentary polishing and rhodium plating, estimating one day. May 9 Called for an update. At 11:04 I was told another project had delayed mine. At 1:32 I was called that it was ready, but I couldn't arrive before closing. May 11 Picked it up and immediately noticed it still wasn't as white as expected. Ashley and another employee agreed. Photos were sent to the maker. I was told they could remake the ring or replace the shank in-house. June 4 Called for an update. I was told there was no response from the manufacturer and that Annette would replace the shank in-house and "take the loss." June 15 Visited Nasr Brothers for an unrelated reason. Peter immediately commented that the color was not what he would expect for a recently rhodium-plated ring. We had it remade in platinum for about the same cost. I was quoted three weeks; it was finished in 17 days and exceeded my expectations in craftsmanship and appearance.
