I would drive across the city to visit them. They take the time to explain the work to you, get your buy in at every step, and charge WAY less than you would pay elsewhere. I especially appreciate the way they make the time to answer all of my questions and never judge me for my ignorance when it comes to cars! The work is always finished faster than expected, and they are more communicative than any men I've ever met. I had my catalytic converter stolen, which was stressful since I needed it for my car to get to two different jobs, and he made the process of getting repairs done a breeze. He was on top of getting an estimate and documentation well before the insurance claim adjusters arrived at the shop, and his team worked hard to get my car back on the road in a timely manner while being straightforward and communicative through the process. While they might work out for other people, but not me. To not be able to tell me how much it will cost to replace a Constant Velocity axle on a small car is ridiculous. Even Google is better than that. Come on man! You run a repair shop for so long, you should know how long it takes to replace it and give me a quote on it. Also your labor rate isn't disclosed to the public in the shop area. Every other shop I go to, they have it right in front and the office. I was immediately turned away by his attitude when he said I need to make an appointment for him to see what's going on and I won't be charged for him to look at it. I already know what's going on with my car. The axle boot is torn due to age of the vehicle and need replacing. No need to give him my car to check out and if I bail out from him.fixing it, I'm pretty sure I will have to pay for his time. Then I might as well.take my old car to the dealership and have them do it for me where they tell.me up front how much the diagnostic is and how.much I will pay after. My budget is very limited and I need to know the cost upfront. Not sure why everyone claims they are great. Any shop that won't disclose right away how much a repair will cost isn't great. And I don't want to end up not picking up my car at all due to.how.much he would.end up charging for replacing a cv axle. Doesn't bother disclosing his labor rate either at least. Instead just says make an appointment so I can take a look at it. Sorry boss, you're not getting any business from me. I cannot adequately articulate how pleased I am with this business. After having what was evolving into a horrific car service experience with Toyota's Northside's service department, I decided to audit an astronomical estimate they gave me to repair/service my vehicle. So, I heavily researched social media and tapped my social circle to find a few ethical auto service companies to take my car to for a second opinion and in making honest and accurate recommendations. The overwhelming response for where to take my car was "AB Marathon." As a result, AB was one of two other businesses I had evaluate my vehicle. And? AB told me that aside from two dirty air filters, there was "absolutely nothing wrong" with my vehicle and further-my vehicle was in "excellent" condition. Paul and the AB team saved me more than $1200.00 in bogus services/repairs. The aforementioned is a complete 180-degree fabulous/breath-of-fresh-air contradiction to Toyota's 'unethical' service rep, who was flagrantly dishonest, tried using scare tactics, and straight-up illegally threatened me (see my review on their page). Paul, the AB Marathon service representative, took a 'People-before-Profit educational approach with me. Specifically point-by-point, he took almost an hour out of his busy workday to listen to me, educate me, and thoroughly address my concerns about my vehicle's actual needs. I decided to come here while looking for quotes on getting my front brakes done on my Audi A6. Several shops quoted me ridiculous numbers and on top of that none other than the dealership had the breaks. However the dealership wanted 4x what these guys charged. Fast forward 2 years, I moved to ATL and still drove my car back up to these guys for my 85K service, oil change and tires because they continue to do quality work at a reasonable price. They get cars in and out efficiently and are always will to help. They are different from most other auto shops. And while I had initial concerns using a gas stations service the reviews I read silenced those concerns and the repeated great service & customer support have proven those concerns wrong. If you want to know what is wrong with your car and not just steamrolled to buy random things come to this place. I prefer them over my Audi dealership. read more

I've been coming here for years and consistently appreciate their transparency and help. Like most of the other reviews say, they aren't like typical mechanics who swindle you because they want customer loyalty. I've been pleasantly surprised a couple times when they've returned my car to me within less than 24 hours. One time while getting gas here, I mistakingly locked my keys in my car. I believe it was Paul who assisted me in getting them out and he explained to me what he was doing so I could try myself if I needed to in the future. 6/5 stars if I could which is so weird to say for a mechanic! read more

This is my second time taking my Highlander to AB. The shop Manager Phil was great- very helpful guy. Knows his business. Within dropping the car the service was complete after a few hours and cost $70 vs the $210 that Toyota quoted. I'll be taking my car back when maintenance is needed again. read more

I used to live near this place and had 2 cars that I brought here all the time. One of them was a rideshare vehicle that I shared with my roommate so it got a lot of abuse. I love these guys. Paul is always straightforward and honest, and last time flat out let me know that the Lyft car was going to cost more to repair than the car is worth at this point. We moved about 45 minutes-an hour away but I still intend to bring my car here all the way from Naperville because I trust these guys so much to give me a fair price for good work. I wish I could give you guys negative a million stars. I took my car into them for a basic tune up a years ago based on a personal recommendation from someone I trust-- my previous mechanic was just too far of a drive and needed a new place closer to home. I WISH I had never done this. Knowing what I know now, I would have driven the extra miles to any other mechanic. Turns out they found out something "serious" with the car while doing this tune up. I thought that they were competent and fair based on the way they explained (in detail) what they found going on with the car. They seemed all too concerned about the safety of my car-- so I took them seriously. Apparently they found that my EVAP needed replacing along with a cracked gas cap, stuff that my old mechanic "hadn't caught". MY evap never had an issue before. Little did I know that these guys were not fixing my car, they were DESTROYING my car. The car immediately had lights flashing all over the dash whenever they returned it to me. The only credit I'll give them is when I told them the car was having issues within hours of them returning it (twice), they did take multiple looks at it for free-- but then told me that there was "nothing they could do" and couldn't figure out why the car suddenly wasn't working properly. It was at that point I would have expected them to offer my even a partial refund and tell me to go have someone else look at it. They didn't once offer me any kind of refund for the trouble they caused. I decided I didn't feel comfortable having them touch the car again. I don't know whether this was a scam to pray on me from coming from a different mechanic or just pure incompetency but either way, they got my hard earned money for a costly (probably uneccessary?) repair. Fast forward to 2024: My car has consistently gone in and out of repairs (at two different mechanics) for this evap issue for 3.5 years and counting. For whatever reason, no one can fix it after AB marathon "repaired" my car. I have no idea why. I've come to know this evap problem intimately-- I never had a check engine light on when I first brought it out to them-- and an evap issue would have certainly warranted a light on the dash (which is now permanently on at all times on my dash. I bought a code rader and it keeps pulling up evap code readings every time). A simple light on the dash would have been the first warning sign that I actually had an evap issue the first time I brought it into them-- which is why I challenge the validity of their services they claimed my car needed back then. I'm only leaving this review now, after so many years, because I am beyond frustrated and people need to know. They are solely responsible for creating the biggest money pit in my life (second place to my student loans), only after one visit to these guys years ago! If I had the money to sue AB marathon, I would, but I need to use my money to repair my car! but it keeps cropping back up, so I have become a slave to these repair payments on this single recurring issue. Not to mention all the times that this issue caused me the need to tow my car after it started having serious effects on the engine (making my car unsafe to drive at times) I have absolutely no idea what they did, but all I know is that AB MARATHON trashed the guts of my car what appears to be permanently. My car was always running fine and smoothly before I came here. These last 3.5 years of have been so messed up. I also think they scammed me into them replacing my gas cap-- beccause they claimed it was "cracked" but then a second mechanic I went to told me that the one they supposedly replace was ACTUALLY cracked as well. Do not walk away, run away from these guys!!! I don't even stop for gas at this station anymore because I refuse to give them more money, and I am extremely bitter about the damage that they've caused to my only asset: my car. Been using AB for at least 10 years. Was recommended to them for our '86 VW Westphalia camper van by a local body shop. We had tried multiple companies over the years but could never get the service we needed until AB. Everything they did was grand! I've had been in the truck tire business for over 40 years so I'm familiar with how a good service department work. AB is the model for that. More than anything, they communicate. Is their pricing competitive? I'm sure it is but what they've done is what all businesses strive to do; they've taken pricing out of the equation. He understands how frustrating it can be to have a car messing up and empathizes with you to the max as he tries his very best to have everything taken care of in a timely fashion for you. I experienced great customer service. I called on a Saturday morning to see if they were open and if they could do an oil change. I spoke with Phil and was given the ok to come in and was quoted a decent price before I got off the phone. I arrived in about 5 minutes. The speed of that oil change was swift and satisfying. I just moved into the neighborhood and was recommended this shop by a close friend. She said, "this shop is super honest with good prices. Friends and family drive frome the burbs for this shop." I took my car in for not starting. Paul took the time to explain in details everything you would want to know when getting your car repaired. He let's you know what's pressing and what can wait if you are on a budget. We've all had the mechanic that say everything is a 911. That's not this place. We were visiting our son in Chicago. His car, a 2012 Volvo, needed an oil change and had a sound that wasn't good. I looked up mechanics in Rogers Park and AB Marathon had great reviews. We called and talked to Ed or Paul, can't remember. He said to bring the car in that morning and we did. Ed kept in touch with us all day about the progress of the repair. I have an Infiniti and I'm extremely picky about who works on my car. I have to say Phil and Paul are amazing. I needed control arms and had no idea what they are and what they do. I was told what control arms do and why they are needed. Not in a condescending "you're a woman" way. In the most kind and helpful way possible. I then came back in and realized that there was a slight issue with my wheel well and they fixed it ASAP. I cannot possibly speak highly enough of Paul and his team. I've been taking my car there for a few years now and have had exclusively good experiences, but this last visit made me dust off my Yelp account just to write a review. The part that needed replacing was going to cost $1k for a brand-new replacement, but Paul spent two weeks searching around for a refurbished part (one arrived, but was the wrong part, and he proceeded to call around to several different suppliers to hunt one down) so that I would only have to pay a fraction of that cost. He was communicative, explained both the original problem and his search for the part in a way that was understandable without being patronizing. He then profusely apologized for the wait and thanked me for my patience - even though the wait was specifically in order to save me a lot of money! I recommend AB to all of my friends, mostly younger women who are nervous about being taken advantage of or condescended to by a mechanic, and we are all big fans. read more

When you take that big sigh of relief knowing that the next time you have car problems - you don't have to worry cause found a place? Well....that describes me this week. Really excellent service and fair prices. I normally only take my car to the dealer because it's a BMW and having something go wrong on that car would cost me more than I want to think about, but I felt at ease leaving it here. I didn't feel like I was being upsold or any of that other shady ish that women fear at car repair places. These guys are the most honest mechanics around. I take my car there for oil changes all the time. My brakes were squeaking and I asked to have my brake pads replaced during my last oil change. When I came back to pick up my car, they notified me that I didn't need my brake pads changed as they still have over 50% left after 40,000 miles and 4 years of driving. It's not very often that you are talked OUT of spending money at a garage, but that's how these guys roll. They are in it for the long term customer relationship, and it shows. read more

Took in in and learned that even though the battery needs changing, the main issue is the starter. The guys here are so friendly! They introduced themselves with a welcoming smile, told me exactly what would be done with my car, and directed me to their small but cozy waiting room stacked with beverages and Keurig. The oil change was thorough and they did a full inspection on my car, including a tire rotation for $28! They were honest and said my car was in pristine condition save for it's filter.
