I needed to get the dirt off my car and this place worked. It's nothing fancy, just a car wash. I usually go to a hand wash because I am afraid that those automatic brushes can scratch your car. But I didn't want to drive my car dirty to my FIL's burial. It's a $3.50 wash, so you get what you pay for. In reality, it's $8.50 since I tipped the towel guy who dried my car. I lucked out and got a guy with clean towels, but some of the other folks I saw had some funky looking towels. Car looked ok, so that's something. If Natty Natasha was gonna wash a car in Chicago, first she'd find one that spoke Spanish, and failing that, she's probably come here, to Natty National. As long as they didn't try to charge her too many Beckys. (Too Many Gs). This is a cute little locally-owned car wash place in the nearside suburbs of Chicago. It's not too expensive and it's as good a place as any to stop and get your car washed. Looks like it's straight out of the 1960s or 1970s or something. Kinda like your boyfriend does. read more

I typically only visit National Car Wash when my car is in urgent need of a car wash/gas tank is almost empty and I am in the area. It is not my go to car wash spot but it is conveniently located right off of Broadway so you don't have to go out of your way to enter the car wash or pump station. I normally go through the automatic wash because I am too lazy to hand wash my car and have a old car. I recommend bringing a few dollars with you so you can tip the gentleman that wiped down your car. You aren't obligated to have someone wipe down your car but I have spoken to a few of the guys and they are pretty nice. I would watch out for dirty towels because it defeats the purpose of a car wash if it is getting wiped down with a dirty towel. This isn't my go to place for gas but when I have gotten pas the prices tend to be aligned with the prices around the Uptown area. Some gas stations in the area are way too expensive. read more

The guy up front immediately tried to upsell me when I only wanted to pay for one car wash. The automatic dryers don't do a good job so you have to use the guys with the towels which he made my car dirty again since he didn't use a clean towel. From a service station perspective, their staff is not helpful and rude... also be prepared for the folks who will be imposing on you to wash your windows too (free, working for tips). Regarding their car wash, please see my review below: Unless you want your car covered in scratches, DO NOT USE THIS CARWASH! Reference pictures I've uploaded. If you don't care about your car, then feel free, but if you don't want your car covered in scratches and exposed to Chicago city salt and much more, read below! This car wash uses automatic brushes that will create scratches all over your car. Also, expect the tire shine spray that goes on your tire to cake onto your rims AND leave residue all over your car (imagine, tire-shine all over your car). Do not opt for the hand dry either, they do not switch out clothes so dirt accumulates and can cause even more scratching your car. Now imagine, winter in Chicago - salt all over, cars go through the wash and it picks-up all the salt and grime, gets stuck in the brushes then used on your car - IT WILL SCRATCH your vehicle up and the more you drive in the salt, it's like an open wound (the scratches) that will allow even more salt to deteriorate your vehicle's paint and surface. I spoke to the owner and he refused to acknowledge that the brushes caused this damage (even though my car is new w/ no scratches beforehand). He offered no solution or even a refund. You see the scratches by allowing the suns glare to shine on your car and then you can see the thousands of scratches on the paint and chrome trim, otherwise, you may think everything is fine. HIGHLY ADVISE YOU THINK TWICE BEFORE USING THIS WASH! Do not expect the guy who works the car wash to help, he was yelling at me and highly defensive, though I was just trying to speak calmly to him about the situation, same for the gas attendant inside - rude. Worst car wash ever! You can't pay for wash and interior cleaning at the same time. There is a price list for many different things but you have to pay some in cash but some can go on n card. A worker disappeared with my car matts for about 20 minutes. The station attendant also sang over the pump intercoms w creepy laughing in between. Damaged tire and scratched wheel!!! Horrible place. Decided to stop in and get a quick wash and some gas before driving to the suburbs for work today. Asked for "wash, hand dry and tire shine" got a wash and something applied to the tires along with a nice chunk taken from the sidewall. Just had 4 new continentals installed Wednesday. Awesome. After the wash I pulled up to get gas and have car dried off. No one. Asked gas attendant and he just kept referring to the other guy. There wasn't any one. So I paid $11 got no receipt for the wash and no one dried the car off. It's black. So lots of nice water spots. Waste of time. Thankfully I have a fuel receipt that proves I was at least there. Called this morning and asked for the manager. He's only there on Saturday. Have to stop by and fill out a report. If that is as worthwhile as the wash and phone call I'm sure it will go well. The service here is bad. People are rude and for an extra $9 take your car to a proper hand wash place like Strictly by Hand on western. Never damaged the car and always did a good job. About once every year I get the urge to clean my car. Usually when the weather gets semi-appropriate for humans to exist happily. So, last Thursday when it hit a stifling 59 degrees, it struck me that my car needed some TLC. After gussying her up with an oil change, the next step was to rid her of salt, sludge and general debris accumulated on the gritty streets of Chicago. I have driven past Chicago's #1 Car Washes (I don't know why it is plural, but ok) about 10 million times, but never stopped. Why? Because there is usually a line around the block that impedes traffic. I heard the alderman tried to shut them down because of this, but they prospered. So finally, I was in the area and decided to just wait it out. Surprisingly the line moved swiftly and efficiently. It appears that this place has been around since the 50s, so they know what's up. They take cash or credit cards, and it's only $3.50 for a wash. Pretty stellar, because I hate paying $10 for a car shower. $3.50 seems good to me, and I even had the cash on me for once. The guy takes your money (which the sign says YOU MUST HAVE READY, so heed the warning) and off I was into the 30 second car wash. Damn fine job, I must say. You can pay an extra $2 to have it hand dried, but I didn't have the patience for it. Little did I know that there would be a gang of "towel dryers" waiting for me at the end of the wash. I felt they were judging me for not getting my little car hand dried, but I just hung my head in shame and busted out the driveway in my shiny new car. Clean me." So after being denied at the automatic place on Damen (sorry boutcha, but you have to fix your credit card machine if your sign says "Accepts credit cards") we went to the old standby. There was a line - it was a Sunday afternoon - but we went from being in line to getting clean to being on our way in the length of "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. I know because it was on the radio. My only beef is that the cleaning is not totally thorough, and the time spent under the dryer is inadequate. The dudes competing for your $1 to hand-dry with a rag don't solve this problem because, see, I just paid for a cash wash/dry so I don't feel like paying more. **WARNING: DO NOT GO TO THIS GAS STATION/CAR WASH** Two days ago, I took my car, which is only 3 months old, to be washed at Uptown Service Station. It is a drive through car wash, and they manually towel dry the car. I got it washed and went about my day. This morning while getting gas, just 48 hours later, I noticed a huge circular scratch on the hood of my car. Again, my car is only 3 months old. I also park in a garage and have never had ice or snow on the car. I know the scratch is from the guy that towel dried the car; it is in a circular motion, and it must have resulted from him having on some kind of jewelry that rubbed against the car as he wiped. So, after work today, I went to the gas station to try to talk with the owner, Arri Weise. I was very kind and polite, and I explained the situation. Immediately, the owner became rude and defensive. He denied any culpability, and he refused to take any blame. He tried to make excuses, saying it was my fault that there is a scratch, but I am 100% certain that there was no scratch before I went through the car wash. I will be contacting the BBB and reporting this business. Not only did they scratch my car, but the owner could not have been more unprofessional and rude when I approached them about it. Yes, this is one of those old car washes with the spinny-thingies that beat on your car and scrub it clean. A year ago, I would have been traumatized... it was touch-free for me and Vixen! It's a drive thru car wash, located within a gas station. Drive in with a dirty car, come out clean. Had to make that clear, judging by some reviews certain people seem to expect something spectacular to occur, besides driving out with a clean car. I see some people complaining that the guys who offer to towel dry your car don't speak enough English, and only accept cash. Seriously people, think a little. They work for tips, do you expect them to each have a portable credit card machine attached to their hip because you cannot cough up at least $5 in cash? Smh. I never had any language related issues here, the guys always seem to understand me just fine. I was very surprised to find out that they accept credit cards at all. Most car washes of this kind (at least ones I have been to) take cash only. After all, it's less than 4 bucks. I like this place, employees are really nice, I'm in and out quickly. I've loved this car wash for over 40 years. Cheapest gas I've seen in the city and 3.50 for a car wash on weekdays (3.75 on weekends). They have a sign right now for free veterans car washes on nov. 11 so I'll be back for that as well. Hometown businesses are few and far so I am glad this one is still around. They've got all that other stuff your car needs like air for your tires and tar remover so I don't see why you should go anywhere else! read more

Charged us $97.75 for a $9 car wash on our card. We noticed it immediately on the receipt and they claimed there was nothing they could do and could not cancel the charge, even after talking to the "boss" this was the best they could come up with. Talked to the credit card company and confirmed that this was obviously not true, now will have to wait for the transaction to post and then dispute the charge. On top of it all, they never applied the rain X we paid for and the very friendly guy who wiped the car dry apparently "accidentally" gave us the wrong change when we were trying to tip him. I only came here because I refuse to get gas at BP I have boycotted them since the leak in the Gulf of Mexico. I don't really like coming here because it seems to be the place for cab drivers to get gas and their cramped cabs cleaned out. Gas is a few cents cheaper than some stations along Broadway Avenue. It's maintained well, but still this is Uptown so you will find a few vagrants hanging around, but nothing out of the usual. If you're looking for gas that's a few cents cheaper than high priced BP come here instead. read more

Cheapest gas in the north-side!!!! The gas station is a bit seedy but that's the customer base. I still don't quite understand this neighborhood. On one side it's the malt liquor festival every morning. I see 15-30 guys just drinking up their colt 45 for for breakfast. Then at lunch time I see the same guys walking around begging for money. I'm assuming so they can get malt liquor money for the next festival. There is also Vietnamese town and allot of senior citizens facilities, It's a weird fusion of people witch makes it fun. $3.50 - four days a week - or 3.75 3 days a week for a solid auto car wash. A few years ago they switched out the bristle type spinners and now they have the thousand rag attack approach. It works and is not as hard on the finish of your car. (After about 200 car washes in 4-5 years I did notice from some angle in some light conditions where the bristles did leave some markings - but that is gone) I buy gas afterward and do some paper towel wiping on the rear of a wagon by the license plate and few places on windows - one minute . If you want there are always "independents" at the end offering to dry your car. Not sure if the sign still says one dollar but figure to go $2 for just drying. Most of these independent contractors seem to do a reasonable job and it seems these people work a long day. Yet if you do that and add the vacuum and some mat work -- by then you might as well have gone to a full service for 9 bucks and tip a buck. This is great for the fast cheap wash. I think its been there over 30 years ! That would not be the case if there was not value (or perceived value) for a reasonable number of people. A $3 auto wash location (with better auto dry dryers) opened the other direction from my house with free vacuum if you want to do it. Yet to my eyes "fast wash" for three dollars does not end in as clean an exterior. I do appreciate the competition and hope that this car wash goes back to offering tape register coupons for free $1.00 thin seal/wax which adds a bit of a nice touch read more

Great experience at this family owned business. For $3.50 it doesn't get better than that. People complaining on here as if they didn't receive the touch-less hand carwash that should look like a $150 detail. If that's what you want go somewhere that does that and go pay somewhere else man. It's $3.50 and they are doing a hell of a job for charging us at that minimum. read more
