Love me a good roof top spot in the west loop! A group of 4 of us decided to come here at the least minute and without a reservation on a Saturday night. Luckily we were able to find 4 spots at the bar within minutes. Even though we were extremely lucky, I highly recommend making a reservation as this place fills up quickly. We sat at the bar towards the back and the bartender was quick and attentive. Drink order was taken almost immediately and he made them just as quick. Drinks are nice and strong- I have yet to have a cocktail that wasn't up to par from here. I absolutely love the food too - Very well balanced and flavorful. My favorite fish is the whipped feta- it's great to share with others. This is a nice and relaxing spot. It is decorated beautifully with lots of modern light fixtures and greenery throughout. The music is more on the indie and 'chill vibes' side. This is a great spot if you're looking to have a conversation and hear the person next to you lol. read more

First things first...make a reservation! Aba books up quickly. The ambiance here is amazing! The lighting and greenery gives the whole dining space a beautiful glow. Some interesting cocktails on menu but I stuck to a mocktail this visit. Think it was On the Road Again. It was tasty but a little on the sweet side. The dining style is small plates and intended to be shared. It is hard to pick favorites but some stand out dishes were the grilled halloumi, crispy short rib hummus, chicken kefta, and Brussels sprouts. Went last night for my wife's 30th birthday with our entire family. Had a reservation for 7:15, but our table was not ready due to another table running longer than expected. We raised our frustration with the front desk as it was not past 7:30. Nick, the manager, very professionally and expertly took care of everything. He came over to our group and explained the situation in a calming, easy manner while offering us a round of free drinks. Next thing he did was create a table large enough for our party by putting a couple tables together to accommodate us. It was fantastic service and truly a top-notch move by Nick and the Aba staff for making the most of a less-than-ideal situation created by some slow diners. The rest of the meal was fantastic per usual with my favorite dishes being the short rib hummus, muhamarra, and the chicken thighs. Whatever sauce is on those chicken thighs is truly brilliant. I'd order a plate of those for myself if etiquette allowed! At the end, they gave my wife a free dessert for her bday, which is always a nice touch. By far one of THE BEST brunch spots I've ever been to, Aba was my favorite food spot of my trip to Chicago, with good reason... First, the ambience is beautiful and the service excellent. We were seated outdoors by the fire pit and were provided blankets. To start, we had the spicy garlic hummus and it was so scrumptious, creamy and flavorful. My entree, lamb & beef kefta was delicious. The tenderness of the meat, with the zest from lemon & tzatziki and the lightness to the rice all amalgamated to a simple, yet delicious dish. I've been here a few times. I've come in with reservations and have also taken non-reservation bar seating. It's nice, for sure, but still feels a little pretentious. The ambiance is quite the scene, and the patio is gorgeous, as are the patrons and the staff! Enjoyed our muhammara, crispy short rib hummus, and chicken kefta Atmosphere: 4/5. Great ambiance, clean, nice decor, etc. Great for dates, special occasions, or a weekend out Service: 2/5. This is where I had issues. Let's be clear, no one was rude or unprofessional (at least not intentionally I think). My main issue was presence. After initial introductions, our server took awhile to come back to take our order. Then we saw him twice the rest of the evening for less than 5 seconds each time. The tables on both sides were checked on at least 3 times between servers and bussers for each of ours (one of these tables had our same server). When we were done and needed boxes and the check, no one came by for some time (felt like 15 minutes or so since we sat around, then took turns using the bathroom, and sat around again). When a busser finally came around to take our plates, we asked for boxes and he offered to box up the food instead. This was a nice gesture that I said yes to, but I found it odd that he threw away the rest of our pita (about half) instead of also packing it. Afterwards we waited for our server again, but he never showed up. Luckily we saw that the table has a QR code to pay on so I paid so we could leave. Maybe it's our fault for not noticing it earlier, but it wasn't mentioned to us at any point. Value: 3/5. Basically the average of the other scores Other notes: I went to the bathroom twice during our visit. Once before and once after the meal. I love Aba! I've come here a handful of times for dinner and it never disappoints me. The entire space is decorated really nicely. If you get a chance to snag a table outside during the summer, it'd definitely recommend that. Reservations are for sure highly recommended for any parties over 2 people. Food: my favorite is the short rib hummus and whipped feta. Their menu rotates depending on the season and restaurant week. I've had their corn dip in the past which is absolutely delicious. They do mussels in the winter that are outstanding. The kebabs are always a standard and you can't go wrong with what you pick. The chicken and lamb are always cooked to perfection. They even have a gluten-free menu! Drinks: they make great espresso martinis! My favorite is the "Aloe, it's me!". It's easy to grab a drink at the bar and order a plate of hummus to share. Came here when visiting Chicago on a recommendation that this was one of the best restaurants in the west loop area. We have a lot of good Mediterranean food where I'm from in Brooklyn, such as the Michelin rated Miss Ada. That being said, I'd say Aba is absolutely on par with Miss Ada and does certain things even better. Namely, I absolutely loved their sauces and dips. The smoky garlic hummus was out of this world. The sauce that came with the falafel was superb as well. I also thought they had incredibly flavorful, and kind of unique tasting chicken kefta. I think perhaps where they could do a little more work is on service. Namely, we showed up on a 100 degree day and apparently all they had available were outdoor seats. However, some of the seats had shade umbrellas and others, including our table, did not. They also could not move us to a different table even though several ones with umbrellas seemed open as apparently when you reserve you are locked into a particular table they assign you. Luckily we were able to eat inside at the bar, but come on guys try and ensure that all tables are equally comfortable. The bartender was superb though so we still had a great time. Overall, other than the minor seating hiccup, we loved our experience here and I'd definitely recommend it as a great spot in Chicago. read more

Once I found out there was a Chicago location I was determined to eat there! The time finally came this weekend after I was able to book a lunch reservation. Dinner seems impossible to book for unless you get lucky with a last minute cancellation. We were sat on the patio and it was THE place to be on a beautiful summer day. We ordered some kebabs as mains and they were great but the real stars of the show were the brussel sprouts and short rib hummus. Wow wow wow. The flavors were bursting and I can't recommend enough. I decided to come here for a date. Initially, I wanted to go to their brother restaurant but their reservations were packed so we decided to try this place because we heard great things just as much. We arrived on a Saturday evening and it was a bit chilly out. The place was packed so we knew this had to be the place to be. We were seated immediately but I swear our table was the size of Little Tikes children play set. This was alarming as this restaurant shines light on their tapas/ sharable plates. Seeing as this place has two floors and two bars, I'm not sure why spacing was an issue. We quickly looked at menu and ordered the muhammara, crispy short rib hummus, black garlic shrimp scampi, broccoli with date tahina, risotto and the shawarma skirt steak frites. We wanted a taste of everything to really receive the full food experience. The Muhammara was delectable. As a spread this was top tier. I wanted this on top of everything. The pita bread was soft and buttery but didn't taste authentic. The short rib hummus was good but the hummus was very dry and the rib was chewy. Despite the oil seen in the photo, it didn't help at all. The atrocity of the evening has to be the Black garlic shrimp scampi. What a total rip off - as a shrimp scampi fan, this hurt my heart and stomach. The dish you see is not what you get. You're served a heat plate and play pop goes the weasel to dig each shrimp out of its hole because it's served on grandma's deviled egg serving tray. Not to mention that dumpster truck serving of Italian bread crumbs on top that was overly baked in the oven. When I say throw it away, please do. It was overly salted and lacked any other flavor. I'm presuming that's where the burnt bread crumbs was supposed to come in and save the day. The broccoli was just as crispy and salty and the tahini made my mouth dry. The risotto was very creamy, I'll give them that but the cheese must've been aging for 70+ years as the taste with bitter. The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth so I guess that was a win. I spent $190 for my date and I meal and we were not pleased. I've had authentic Mediterranean food. Even been across seas to experience this. Aba did not do them justice and this, in my opinion, is not a clear representation. read more

I was here for a private event for a conference and Aba was amazing. The space itself is amazing. The rooftop opens into the indoor space which is gorgeous dark woods but still has a spacious feel. Service was on top of it. They were busy but not rushed came around with passed bites - the pork belly is amazing . On the buffet they had an amazing Meze spread and I tried several of the hummus and whipped feta. On the hot board I tried the lamb chops, tenderloin and the Brussel sprouts all was amazing. The bar was busy, but they were attentive and drinks came out in a timely fashion. To start off this review I am not really a fan of Greek food but Aba is probably one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in Chicago. To start, the ambiance is incredible. They did a great job with the interiors especially the bar area. The patio is so cute with good views of the city. This place is always packed and you need reservations months in advance. This is a dream restaurant. The food, ambience and service is impeccable. I loved our server, who patiently explained that this was a tapas type of restaurant and how much food should be ordered. They asked about food intolerances and even catered to a gluten free diet. We were also on a time crunch and they sped up service to get us our food out as soon as possible. I loved that they explained which dish had dairy or gluten so we were all aware. 1. Eggplant dip was my favorite dish of the night. It's so creamy and savory. I couldn't get enough of it. It comes with a side of seasoned pita, but also special gluten free crisps for me to eat with. It was actually more delicious than the pita, according to my friends. 2. Falafel came with a white sauce and was so delicious. You only get 4 falafels, so keep that in mind while sharing 3. Ceviche was AMAZING. We had never tried tomatoes in a ceviche but it was surprisingly delicious and not at all "fishy". I really enjoyed it 4. For the the chicken bowl fell a little short. I found that everything was lacking salt. The rice was bland, so was the side shoug sauce and chicken. But judging by all the other dishes maybe I just picked the wrong one for me. For me 4.5 stars would be most accurate but as my friend enjoyed the food so much that he thought he would have difficulty enjoying the other Med restaurants in US, I still give 5 stars. We got a table at about 1pm. The restaurant was already almost fully seated. As both of us had explored their menu before, we quickly decided to order the muhammara and beef tartare as starters. Do not be "cheated" by the stuff -- the portion sizes were guite generous for two to share. Moreover, the taste was GREAT. I enjoyed the muhammara a lot -- sweet (due to pomemgranate)，sour, spicy (a little) and rich. My friend had lots of beef tartare. He thought the beef was a bit too sour, but the crispy lettuce was fresh and de Then we ordered some big brunch plates. I got the short rib shakshuka while my friend got the brunch kefta. The shakshuka was of medium size. It had a strong flavor of tomator and harrisa. The short rib was cooked almost melted and absorbed all the flavors of the soup-like sauce base. The lamb&beef, kebab tasted like hamburger meat. Unlike my shakshuka, it's size was huge! While we intended to order only 4 dishes, the food was so great that we ended up adding a whipped feta -- another spread. It was smaller than muhammara but the taste was equally good. The feta was extemely silky and a little smoky. Try spreading it on the pita and then spreading some muhammara on it as well. It was heavenly! Tons of layers of flavors! Speaking of the pita, it was also quite good. Very fluffy, warm and went well with almost every dish, including the spreads and my shakshuka. And they give tons of pita bread so no worry about not having enough of it! Besides the great food, dining vibe was also superb! It was perhaps the best dining area I have ever seen in Chicago! Bright, spacious, clean. Moreover, they had trees inside and the inside and outside was connected, so it perfectly created an environment where I felt I was sitting not far from the Meditteranean sea, feeling the breeze while enjoying the food. Service was quick and our server was friendly and enjoyed chatting with us. The only problem was that we waited for nearly 15min before we got seated (we did not arrive too early nor too late). They should also provide more seats at the entrance as we could only stand to wait. If you have someone visiting Chicago and you want to impress them, take them to Aba. The restaurant is located on the third floor of a building in Fulton Market. It has a massive outdoor patio that overlooks the street, and a beautiful interior decorated like a Mediterranean courtyard - trees and all. If you want to eat at Aba, you need a reservation, and, especially if you want to eat on the patio, you should make that reservation 3-4 weeks before. This was my second time at Aba, and they do not disappoint. There are a ton of vegetarian options to choose from. The plates are tapas style, so order a bunch of dishes and share! We had two people and ordered the green garbanzo, halibut ceviche, and the crispy potatoes. Every dish is beautifully presented and full of flavor. I appreciate the heavy use of herbs in the dishes. The green garbanzo dip was my favorite of what we ordered, and you will definitely need to ask for extra pita to go with it. A spontaneous luncheon with some friends led me here, so I loved every moment of it! From the moment we walked through the doors with the spa scented foyer, to the elevator ride to the second floor, the moment the doors opened into the restaurant you were taken to a whole different environment. With the bright open windows and patio, the greenery and the stunning homey furniture it felt like a home away from home. While we didn't have a reservation we came in right when they opened and we're fortunate enough to be seated and caught their happy hour. I started with one of the mock tails that tasted like a Paloma, had a bit of a kick to it but super refreshing to enjoy. We shared a few different plates. We started with the spread plate, it was baba ganoush, hummus, and whipped ricotta. It was served with fresh garlic pita bread. Each of the spread was incredible. Next we had the Brussel sprouts and they were roasted to perfection! With the crispy flakes from being roasted to the sweet honey it made each bite more and more delicious. For our entrees we shared the chicken and the pork belly. The chicken's sauce had a bit of a kick to it but the complete bite with each component was delicious. The pork belly was super tender and flavorful. And lastly we had the tomato orzo and that was creamy and flavorful with the cherry tomatoes and the cheese. All in all, we had so much fun! Solo dinner. Got seated at a table, which was great. Unfortunately, my experience went downhill from there. I felt like an afterthought the entire night. I watched the other tables receive attentive service, meanwhile, everything I received was just not on par. I ordered the lamb chops. Meat was juicy and flavorful. Had a nice char. I waited for my waiter to come back to my table after eating for a prolonged amount of time. When she came back she asked: Will you be needing anything else with us today? Then I asked for desert. I waited at least 10min for Greek yogurt. The table next to me ordered the same desert after me and received it well before. When my dessert arrived it was melted. We decided to go for drinks and an appetizer since we were still pretty full from our lunch. I had heard that the apps were better than the main dishes as well, so this made us feel better about skipping the entrees. Top rec was the crispy short rib hummus, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The homemade pita was great as well, and more was brought to our table after the main dish was served. Aba is truly one of the most aesthetically pleasing establishments I have ever been to. I've had the pleasure to dine here in almost every season and their decor matches every season so perfectly. The heated patio igloos are definitely one of my favorite ways to dine in the city during the cold winter months! When it comes to food, Aba knows how to please its customers and keep them coming back for more! Although I've tried quite a lot of their menu items, this particular visit included some of my most favorite dishes. The grilled chicken kebabs taste exactly what they look like. They're tender, juicy, smoky, and absolutely mouthwatering. The beef and lamb kebabs have a sense of richness and depth to them which makes you wanting more with every bite. Rice is served with both dishes and makes for the most perfect complement! OBSESSEDDD!! Next up is some crispy potatoes which make for the perfect appetizer. There's more than enough to share with your group or take some back home with you. My two most favorite dips are the whipped feta which is soft and smooth and so delicious as well as the smoky garlic hummus which has just the right hint of smoky and salty and flavor. Not pictured but also one of my most loved dishes is the falafal which comes with a yogurt tzatziki sauce and will absolutely knock your socks off! A few weeks ago, my family visited Aba for Sunday Brunch. We were one of the first groups to be seated in the open, airy and comfortable dining room. As you can see in my photos, we sampled several of the offerings at Aba. It would be difficult to pick a favorite. However, if you go for brunch, I highly recommend the short rib hummus. This is a warm dish that combines the earthiness of the hummus with the savory and rich short rib. It is one of those dishes that you will be tempted to ask for a second round. The halibut ceviche was a perfect followup to the hummus. It is fresh, bright and full of fresh herbs. Not only did it cleanse my palate, but we noted how firm and fresh the halibut was. I have to admit, I wasn't sure I would like raw halibut. This dish made a believer out of me. All of the other dishes we sampled were equally delicious. Each plate was expertly prepared and carefully presented. The service was impeccable and made sure our glasses remained full and our dishes came out immediately. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday, and they made sure to make her day special with a complimentary dessert. All in all, this is a lovely dining room that knows how to treat their customers. I saw this restaurant in my credit card travel recommendations after I booked a flight to Chicago, so I figured why not? My husband and I had to do an earlier dinner time due to the timing of our flight home, so we ate at 5pm. This meant we got a few items from the happy hour menu- including a tasting of 3 dips and the fried halloumi. Oh my GOD that fried halloumi will stay with me always. Paired with labneh and honey with some fresh basil- it was beyond delectable. Equally tasty was the lamb Raghu, which was served with hummus and pita. Those two dishes were the stars of the show. The Brussels sprouts were a bit salty and the dips were fine (although I think the smoked eggplant was the best and I'd order it again as a full dish). Our server Erik was on top of everything and made the experience that much better. I would recommend coming with at least 4 people so that you can share even more dishes.
