Tried Roti for the first time this past week after walking by it a million times and wanting to check off another fast-casual Mediterranean spot in the city. Overall, it was just okay for me. Chicago has a ton of strong options in this category, and I don't think this one stands out as the best. I ordered the Mezze protein bowl with steak, chicken. The lettuce wasn't great so I mostly picked around it, and the steak was a bit more well done than I'd prefer. Everything else was solid and what you'd expect from a classic Mediterranean fast-casual setup, but nothing that really wowed me. So I was a big fan since day one, and during this trip I got to try their salads. They did not disappoint either. The reason why this place is great is because they were to OG of fresh salads in either premade or DIY style. I went with the DIY and added my protein sauteed chicken, farro, and greens. The tahini sauce was a nice touch, and I fully enjoyed the food. The ambiance was just ok, more like a fancy fast food place than anything. What great find on our latest visit to Chicago! The restaurant is very similar to Cava or Chipotle in that they build your bowl as you order. My son had a rice bowl with chicken and I had a mixed greens + rice bowl with chicken. Love that there are so many toppings to choose from like pickled onions, hummus, curried carrots and feta, to name a few. The bowls were very filling and each came with a large round of pita. I really like the Chicken Harissa Bowl and will occasionally get a falafel to go with it. So many sides and so many sauce choices, I almost never finish my bowl. Overall no complaints! read more

Personally I like Nafnaf better in generally but the food at Rōti was good. The hummus here was not my favorite and the pita wasn't as fluffy as I'd like but the chicken had good flavor and they have lots of sauce options. I do like that the line was really quick and there was plenty of spots to eat. read more

Is it just me, or are Mediterranean bowls exploding in popularity? I am not going to relive my college days by doing a market analysis, but I get it. The portions are typically filling, the food is tasty, and it seems to be healthier than many other fast casual places out there. Also, it's nice to try different iterations before Cava takes over like they have in the Northeast! Okay, so let's talk about Rōti. While not mind-blowing, they do their shtick pretty well. I ordered a build-your-own Bowl with half & half of Greens and Grains. For my protein I selected the Harissa chicken, which was tender and flavorful, quite surprising for something that's spent some quality time in a hotel pan. My only note is that I would have liked a little bit more. Their veggie selection isn't insanely vast, but they have a respectable variety of options that can be customized to one's heart's content. These can add different notes, including freshness and and acid (depending on what you get). I also enjoyed their sauce selection, where you can choose based on your preference of heat, acidity, and sweetness. There are two criticisms I would like to share: 1. The way the spring mix was chopped, some of the greens were very large pieces. For something to be eaten with a plastic fork and knife, this didn't work super well. 2. The rice was okay, but it didn't seem like it was the freshest thing in the shop. especially since I encountered a relatively large clump. don't you be fair there was only once such instance. Finally, I do want to give some to the service, which was friendly and efficient. When it comes to the prices, this isn't the cheapest place out there, but other than slightly less protein than I would have liked, I'd say the value was very fair. Thus, we have a great Mediterranean Bowl place that has good food at reasonable prices. I would not call Rōti a destination, however if you work in the area it is a solid option to have in the rotation for lunch. read more

My favorite work lunch!! After moving from the east coast, I really missed CAVA, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that Roti is quite similar if not better. First of all, definitely get the app! For downloading it you get $10 off a bowl, and after I got my first bowl they gave me another $10 off. I love how much food they give you, they definitely don't skimp on the portions like some places do. I have always been able to get 2 meals out of this which makes it such a great deal! I also love that there is no limit to how many topping you can get. There is so much variety and it's a great option for an affordable healthy lunch! read more

A lot of restaurants are good when they're new, but the standards can slip over time for some. There isn't too much that is special about Roti anymore. It is passable and skippable at the same time. The people who work here are definitely professional and nice enough. At the end, if you use a credit card, you're supposed to use a specific register, but they don't explain that at the outset. They had a trainer showing an employee how to do things, which seemed like weird timing since it was during lunch, but it wasn't super crowded anyway. I like the roasted chicken and find it relatively tender and flavorful. I wish there were more topping/veggie options, but it was OK. Be aware that they really pile on the sauce! I got two sauces and some hummus, so I definitely take some responsibility here, but it was altogether very gloopy. The cardboard lid fits atop the bowl well, but there's no tape or rubber band, so its arrival post-take out owed its neatness to careful handling on my end. I saw only plastic forks there and asked if there was a plastic knife. I was told they do not have any plastic knives. What gives? That is so weird. People like to cut their food. Imagine parents with small children coming here - it would apply even more in this case! read more

Qdoba, but make it Mediterranean. This place will do in a pinch. It's in a large, industrial feeling space that isn't too inviting, but they aren't trying to keep you there long. It definitely caters to all the professionals in the area who are just trying to grab a quick bite at lunchtime. I usually go for a Bowl and I've been pretty happy. You can make it as mild or as spicy as you'd like and mix and match a wide variety of ingredients. A Build Your Own Bowl with Spicy Steak is $14.95 and a Spindrift Raspberry Lime is $2.50. After tax, you're looking at just under $20 for an order that can easily be split into two meals. Not cheap, but not about to break the bank either. I think they are perfectly fine, but I much prefer Naf Naf Grill. That's not to say it's not good. That's just my personal taste. Think of it as Chipotle vs Qdoba. For me, they are Qdoba. read more

Really enjoyed my bowl here after I picked out all of the lettuce cores which seemed excessive. 5 in total smh. Everything else was great though. Loved their pickles. As others have mentioned, this is like the chipotle of Mediterranean food. I love having the option to customize your bowl and get exactly what you like. Roti is another fast casual spot that is very solid when you are looking for a healthier option for lunch. The harissa chicken was super tender and flavorful. I loaded my bowl up with tons of different ingredient options and the best part is it doesn't cause extra, so you can try all you please and find out your favorites. Personally I love the Persian cucumbers, hummus, and the roasted red pepper sauce, but they have so many more options. My only gripe was my pita chips were a bit stale and hard. Delicious! Visiting from out of town, and was looking for somewhere close to my hotel to eat. Roti was delicious. When you enter, you can either order your food at the counter or at the kiosk. The staff were extremely friendly. This place reminds me of cava, which allows you to build your own bowls. The flavor profile is different but the concept is the same. I ordered the chicken Mediterranean bowl and then tweaked it a little bit. The only topping it had was olive oil, and it was missing a little extra flavor so I would suggest adding a dressing or some other type of topping. All of the items had mild flavors and worked well together. I don't think that any of them were particularly strong in flavor. The bread that came with the bowl was yummy. As with all chains, the location is often the key to your experience. This location is consistently great. It's one of my go-to lunch spots in the area. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and quick. After a handful of times, the manger (or owner?) started to recognize me. It's a small thing but it shows a level of customer service that's just really nice. Today my online order was missing the falafel and when I went to the register they quickly grabbed me some fresh ones no questions asked. Their ingredients are always fresh and tasty. I usually opt for a salad but their bowls and pitas look great. I also love that if I opt for falafel as my protein, the total is under $11 which is starting to become unheard of in the loop these days. Overall, I'd definitely recommend stopping in at this location if you're in the mood for Mediterranean fast casual. read more

I ordered Roti today via Uber Eats! Is Roti cultural appropriation? Yes, indicated by the hilarious dish "roti chicken" (roughly meaning "bread chicken"). Am I totally okay with it? Also yes, lol. To me, the standard for any build your own bowl restaurant is Chipotle. If you're worse than Chipotle then you shouldn't exist. Roti should exist, though at $15 a bowl note that it's about double the price. But the portions sizes are bigger too, look at my photo. The quality of the meat is good, but I think what I really like is the unique offerings like cauliflower rice (which I think they should rename to something ethnic like subgee rice, lean into it) and chickpeas.
