Of the 19 courses, some were indescribable in their delight and others were bizarre but ultimately each was creative and expressive. 1. The food was not worth the visit. Obviously the food was not bad, but for a new 2-star michelin establishment with buzz, we expected much better. Especially when compared to our other michelin-restaurant visits on this trip like el club Allard (Madrid), Paul Bocuse (Lyon), Regis et Jacques Marcon (Auvergne). Several dishes used the same sauces so wasn't that interesting and each course was just ok 2. The presentation of each course was stale and not really impressive 3. The service was poor, our servers were overwhelmed and couldn't calmly or smoothly work the room. This two-star michelin restaurant definitely lived up to the hype. Far superior to two michelin star restaurants in New York.The tables are spaced in a way that you feel your meal is fairly private. The service was impeccable - a variety of servers were involved in attending to you and explained each dish very well in English. We had the full tasting menu. The courses were about 16 - each very detailed using really interesting ingredients. I would say the meal veered more towards Asia and South America than Spanish. As I always, find in these types of meal, the first 7 or so courses were far superior to the final ones. Where this restaurant really gets the edge is the presentation -they cook a portion of the meal at your table with a bit of a molecular gastronomy flair. Really memorable meal. read more

This restaurant has ruined me forever. Jordi Cruz, the head chef, is a culinary genius and artist. The meal I had here was the best of my entire life, I can't really point at anything that was off - from the impeccable and warm service and attention of the staff, to the masterful sommelier who carefully paired wines to match each dish, to the serene and modern setting, and of course to the beautiful and rigorous menu of Chef Cruz.. It is worth a flight to Barcelona just to eat here. He also has a wonderful book out, "Logical Cuisine," which will leave you in awe. read more

Simply the best meal I've ever had. It's comparable to Le Bernadine in NY or The French Laundry in CA, except that the core cuisine is more to my liking - a blend of Mediterranean and Asian influences. We enjoyed the 18-course lunch tasting menu in their dining room which faces the hotel's internal garden. Service was wonderful and non pretentious. Our favorite dishes was a "bloody mary" consisting of tomato water and some awesome sorbet (tastes better than it sounds), a fried fish bone dish with foamed hollandaise (also tastes better than it sounds), and a bouillabaisse with broth that is boiled table side during the meal. Wonderful meal overall. I definitely recommend it. Be ready to spend a long time there though. We got in at 1:30PM and left at 5PM! read more

My reservation confirmation went to my spam so I never thought it went through. I checked my spam two days before and found the email in spam and tried to cancel on their online system and it didn't work. I wasn't able contact them via phone while I was in Spain since my bf wasn't feeling well, we we worried it was the virus, (this is literally this week during the coronavirus outbreak) we were trying to make sure he was okay. Of course I got charged 90 euros a person for not showing up. When I emailed them back and explained the situation to them as I was trying to get back to the US and make sure my bf was okay and if there is anything they could do. Their reply from a fucking front desk person stating "this our policy" is the lamest thing I've ever heard. I'm sorry your Michelin restaurant needs my money that bad to fill your empty seats. I have never gotten a reply like especially from a restaurant that didn't have a waiting list or gets sold out in 1 minute. Word of advice is to call and confirm with your guests just in case if you are so strict about your policy especially if they don't answer a confirmation email. Idiots. read more

Best food and service of my life... (So far)I did not have the tasting menu as my partner was worried would not be enough food. We went à la cart the staff recommended dividing up some of the courses between us, so we split our main courses half each... I have eaten at some great places, this is the BEST, so far it's not cheep but this is a special place your not going to go every week or every month... My wife and I dined here on our honeymoon. The experience was great. It took us about four hours to complete our experience. All staff was gracious, smooth, and top notch - they explained every course completely and guided us through each step of the experience. The food was incredible. We ordered the traditional menu. Each course was completely different, but flowed well. I can't comment on the wine list or cocktails. Highly recommend. read more

The food, service, and space were all very nice, four stars probably, but not particularly memorable. We had a drink on the deck before dinner and that space was both high-end and warm, contrasted with the cold and uninviting formal dinning room. The room was well appointed but incredibly quiet and we almost felt as if we were imposing by speaking. I found ABaC to be really disappointing food wise. The staff was great, the setting was beautiful, and the food was creative... It just wasn't very good. We went for the 16 course meal and it was overwhelmingly fishy. Not just lots of fish but very very fishy taste. There wasn't a balance or variety of flavors to enjoy. The wine pairing was a another example of lacking variety almost 100% white wine with no real standouts or great tie ins with the paired food. Yes it's very cool and creative have them bake a brownie at the table and make ice cream in front of you but the actual product wasn't all that good and that's most important. read more

Visited upon recommendation of a college friend (a NYT food critic), and I'm sure glad I took her advice (she steered me away from Adria's Tickets, which is oft-criticized for its pretentiousness). Michelin stars, check. Flawless service, check. Amazing food, check. Was it the most amazing fine dining meal I've ever had? Not quite. Those honors still go to Le Bernardin and Per Se in NYC. But AbAC definitely lived up to the hype. I opted for the chef's tasting menu (pricey at 125 euro, but I was on vacation, plus it's par for the course for this level of cuisine/service), along with a customized wine pairing with the sommelier's help. Staff is fantastic, helpful, fluent in English, and not at all overbearing or pretentious, which is a plus. Worth going out of the way to visit when you're in Barcelona, especially if there's a special occasion. read more

For this price and hype I would think my mind should be blown, but it wasn't. Someone else booked this place and I'm sure it was 150-200 euro per person. The food was good but the service was not that great. The waiters did not do a great job explaining the dishes and once we got to the pigeon it took too long (at least 20 minutes) after our last dish for the food to come out. All in all the meal was 2 hours and 45 minutes but felt delayed right before the last entree. read more

This place started out great. They seat you in a lounge where you enjoy appetizers and get to walk through the kitchen before meeting the chef in person. I was so delighted by that point, that I was wondering why this place was not rated 3 *'s, the appetizers were so charming, and were served professionally. However immediately after meeting the chef, and being seated in the main dining area; things took a turn for the worse: 1) A spider crawled out of our dinner napkin, and kept crawling around our table; forcing us to relocate. 2) Service slowed down exponentially, to the point that tables seated after us were finishing their entire meals before us. 3) Service got so slow, that I probably went through two loaves of bread - an abomination at a Michelin * property, save two stars! 4) My partner's tuna had two pieces of bone in it; a nasty surprise one doesn't expect at a restaurant of this caliber. 5) The server who brought out the `pillow dessert` was visibly exhausted, and didn't even pretend to describe what was in it - was this a bad omen of things to come? 6) Indeed it was - a live fly crawled out of this dish! After begging for the attention of our server, we confronted her with this, initially to questions whether the fly was in the food, and then to the utterly bland apology that `the ingredients were fresh`! The server strongly suggested that we don't do so - because this would keep the taxi we had requested waiting outside, where he told us the meter was already running. By this point, please note that the server had not even yet returned our change! By his own admission, he was raking up avoidable charges on the taximeter for us, while simultaneously trying to keep us from enjoying the outdoors. I am a generous tipper, but I tipped absolutely nothing at this restaurant. With service and food like this, it is a miracle that Michelin hasn't yet yanked away their second Michelin star. read more

Thought there was a little drop off in the desserts but overall, the best meal I had on this trip to Spain. This does not feel like a 5 star experience. I dine and travel all over the world, eat anything from the top Michelin starred restaurant in Paris to street food in Honduras, and did not feel like this was an exceptional experience. The host was extremely rude when we were ten minutes late for our reservation, which was the result of holiday traffic, and made us wait out of principal as the restaurant was empty and our table was ready. Ambiance was blah, and the only person that had a pleasant demeanor was the assistant to the sommelier. Food was presented and done well, but the overall experience was not one I would recommend to friends. read more

TWO STARS MICHELIN??? Last December my wife and I traveled from Los Angeles to Barcelona to visit family and friends and wanted to take the opportunity to have dinner at ABaC Restaurant. We called the restaurant two days ahead to make sure that they would be able to accommodate 3 vegans for a party of 5. They told us that they would be able to adjust/make a custom menu for the vegans without a problem. Once at the Restaurant we all decided to have The Gran ABaC menu. The menu starts with a "Bloody Mary on the Rocks" that the vegans never got because of the ingredients in it, but neither a replacement for it. Not a good start. Right after, a few dishes came that we thought they were a joke, because of the lack of creativity and the use of ingredients, one of the plates was literally just peas, nothing else, another one was carrots, another bites of artichokes, and so on while the non vegans enjoyed a crafted, creative and full of flavor menu. For dessert they brought two large trays with lots of chocolate confectionaries, we got really excited, until the waiter told the vegans that we could only eat one kind out of 10 different types. As vegans we felt that we didn't get the same quality as the rest of the party. Also, we were really disappointed that we had to pay the same amount per menu for what we got. If I'm paying over 1,000 euros for a dinner I would expect way more and also a better service. We do not recommend this restaurant based on our experience. We wish that they will try harder for any future guests that might require a special diet. read more

It doesn't even feel right giving a three Michelin Star restaurant only two Yelp stars, but alas, it is how I feel, and I must be honest. My husband and I started traveling the world and visiting Michelin Star restaurants in every city about 4 years ago. We've dined in London, Prague, and Argentina to name a few. I have always been blown away by the ambiance, the service and attention to detail. ABaC did not disappoint in any of those regards. However, the most disappointing thing about ABaC, was the most important thing you look for in dining out: the food. Being in Barcelona, I was expecting to be blown away by the best seafood I have ever had in my life. Instead, I was left scrunch-faced after every bite with the massive amounts of salt they used that even over-powered the flavor of the fish itself. Even my husband, who tends to enjoy food on the saltier side, had to agree with me. The waiter noticed I was not finishing my food, and brought me an additional dish (for which I was very grateful, don't get me wrong), but that dish was salty as well. I felt so awful not eating the food, especially since the chef was in house just one table away. But I honestly couldn't stomach it. The dessert was delicious and the custom cocktails were divine. The service was also very good, aside from the server who explained my dislike away by saying it was my pallet and not the food itself, which was not only rude and insulting, but also just not the type of comment you expect to hear in a fine dining establishment. Needless to say, I will not be returning to ABaC or recommending anyone spend $600.00 on a two person tasting menu. I've been to a host of Michelin restaurants varying from one to three stars. The service here leaves much to be desired. There are only two pre fixe menu options here so it shouldn't be difficult to get someone's order right. After a few courses we realized the waiter had started our experience with the wrong/lesser menu. This throws off the wine tasting we also ordered for 95 euro. Prior to this mishap we were sat outside during a chilling rain to do absolutely nothing. We could see other guests starting their evening with bread and drinks while we were sitting out there waiting on our attendant to return. After 25 minutes of waiting and a complaint we were allowed to enter the restaurant( we were on time for our reservation). I ordered an Armagnac and was offered two different and lesser vintages while they were "looking In the cellar." Still never received the correct Armagnac that I ordered. At dinner we also had to ask multiple times for water and were served sparkling when we had clearly requested still water. The sommelier was knowledgeable but totally missed a pour for my brother's drink during one of our courses. Lastly, after the dessert was served we were left unattended for roughly 20 minutes while staff talked and we had to get up to request the check. Overall lack of service. read more

My husband and I travel for culinary experiences. Before we got married, we planned to visit as many Michelin starred restaurants as we could and so far we've been to a fair number of them. We were very excited to come to Abac that's rated 3 stars, during our stay in Barcelona. First off, service was perfect, the location is great and the restaurant's style is elegant and cozy, so five stars to that. We also enjoyed being able to come to the kitchen, as we are always asking to do that in many restaurants. The champagne and appetizers in the kitchen were also superb. Now let's talk food. Both tasting menus are one of the longest tasting menus. We went for the 19 course tasting menu as it had dishes we thought we would enjoy more than the 16 one. We liked the timing of every course. We've been to some restaurants like Le Bernardin that take forever between one course and another to the point you get bored and sleepy. Presentation was perfect and creative. The reason why we're giving 4/4.5 if we could, and not 5 is... The dishes were delicious, but not memorable. I wasn't blown away with each course like in other less rated or not even rated restaurants. There's a lot of fish, which is obvious if you looked up the menu online beforehand, so beware of that. They have it in every form and I didn't realized it, but it ended up being too much fish, with repetitive flavors. Then hey had duck which is my favorite. Again, not memorable. Doesn't beat my favorite dish in one of the local restaurants where we live. I think the experience overall was lovely, but certainly not a place I would die to go back. read more
