Wnet downtown for lunch with a friend and we didnt want to end the good time so we yelped something in the area and up popped Abbey Pub. It was said to be the oldest and best pub in Fort Worth so that sealed the deal. Its a large venue with tons of seating and a nice long bar. The bartender quickly welcomed us and made us feel at home. We both ordered a nice porter and it came in a nice cold glass. We enjoyed a nice visit in a comfortable relaxed pub. We will be back!! Went here for the first time over the weekend with a few friends and could not believe how rude the staff was. We asked the person checking IDs upon arrival if we could push two tables together to accommodate our party of 6 and he was incredibly rude and told us not to touch his tables and was shining a flash light all over the place. He then pushed two tables together for us and we received no service from a waiter and eventually had to go to the bar to order drinks. The same guy was working the bar and the rudeness continued. After one round of drinks, we had enough and decided to leave. My husband thought he lost his credit card so we asked the same guy who checked our IDs to look behind the bar to see if it was still with the receipt he signed. He refused to check and told us that was our problem, but luckily we found it on our own. There was zero reason for the staff to be completely rude for no reason. I will not be back and will not recommend. read more

The Abbey is my go to pub. It is home to the Fort Worth chapter of the American outlaws. The United States men's national team fans gather here to watch the game and drink together. They have a pool table and darts if watching the game isn't your thing. It can get a little Smokey at times but often it's a relaxed environment with decently priced drinks. Some of the most successful nightclubs in Dallas back in the 90's were, in fact, the same night club. Every year or two, as the crowds began to dwindle, they would shut it down, slap some new paint and decor on it, change the name, and reopen it. Same owners, same staff, same DJ, same location, but the crowds came back. Because in the end, they were all looking for that "new" place in town. Even if it really wasn't new. So it is with The Shamrock, which appears to have slapped some faux-tudor decor on the outside, and changed the name. The interior is the same, the bartender is the same, but the crowds have descended. So if you liked Shamrock, you will like Abbey...unless what you liked about it was its laid-back vibe, which has since been swapped for frat-friendly. read more

My first visit was on St. Patty's Day. The exterior does not do the interior justice. It's clean and actually somewhat cozy. Major bonus points: the restroom was very clean. Now for the reason I only gave it 2 stars: the service. Initially it was fine, but trying to get another round of drinks was nearly impossible. That's not good at all when we were sitting at the bar and it wasn't that busy. Apparently, you have to be a regular to get adequate service. I sat there with an empty drink glass and empty water glass for a good 10 mins. and when I tried to make eye contact with the female bartender with the mohawk, I was completely ignored. I must reiterate: sitting at the bar with two empty glasses in front of me. She acknowledged others and just ignored my attempts to get her attention. It is due to her disregard for us that we will NOT be able to return. I'm disappointed as I just recently moved back to the area from Dallas and was hoping to find a new pub. I was actually next door about to order & got a call. It wasn't good news, so I opted to run in for a quick quiet drink. I think I expected frat boys and grime but was met with an earnestly clean bar,yet clearly testosterone driven, shiny and appealing with even a friendly vibe. I didn't want friendly, just a cocktail. Dude at bar recommended a craft beer and left me in peace. I noted 3 men behind the bar. I looked around, standard pool tables and golden tee but shuffleboard, darts and more. Lotsa tvs all playing sports. After discussing what I liked about 1st beer,he recommended my second beer. He asked great questions about my preferences and I enjoyed it. Better than the first even! I've reviewed this place under the old name "Shamrocks." This place is a great bar, lots of space, decent jukebox, lots of TV and I love love love the addition of the shuffle board (they need 2 of them.) Always have decent drink deals and is located in the perfect location to start your bar hopping night. Bartenders are decent dudes (one seems to have an attitude but you still get service.) Bar tender ignored us for 5+ minutes every time I got a drink (3 times) when it it wasn't busy even after tipping her well on each tab this past Thursday afternoon. She was extremely rude to my friends and I the entire time. We finally left after seeing her take 3+ shots with her friends while waiting to order more drinks. Additionally, we saw her get into verbal arguments with at least 2 customers while we were there and she even pushed one girl. Can't believe this bar stays afloat with employees like that and that the cops weren't called on her. read more

One of the best pubs in the metroplex. I live in Dallas but grew up in Ft Worth. I have been around many spots in the metroplex and this is one of the most consistent pubs to get a good strong drink besides Rick O'Sheas downtown. I don't go to meat markets and I absolutely refuse to go to the racist Library downtown. On more than one occasion, I was told my clothing was too baggy but I just left from work where I dress conservatively business casual. TCU hipster/frat jackasses can come in looking practically homeless but I can't get in? DWB. Drinking While Black. I will not discuss that crap bar any further. As with any local mom/pop like this, just take the time and ask the bartenders their name. Any local pub place is like that if you want better service such as The Grotto, Boiled Owl, or Lola's. Went here a few months ago with 3 friends. I am from the UK, so as ID I only had my UK driving licence. Apparently this is not sufficient, as the only thing they would accept was an ID card or a US driving licence..... so it looks like they're saying if you're from out of town then forget it!! Even though I am 35 years old and had 3 friends with texas ID's as well! The bouncers were very unfriendly and downright rude. Do not go here and expect any hospitality or welcome. read more

Stopped in on a friday afternoon for a beer. Place looked good and was not very busy. After about 10 minutes bartender came over to serve the owner? who then told the bartender to serve me. Ordered a Guinness and waited. Bartender filled the glass half full, left it at the tap and went to the other end of the bar and got on her phone. Good people. Good brew. Good music. This is the place we often end up coming to for our post-test wind down. I love it for a few reasons. First, they have great prices on their drinks. There are few places in FW that I can go to without spending a bunch of money on dranks. Second, the bartenders are nice. They are fast at noticing that you need a drink and faster in getting it to you! Third, you can just walk out the back door to one of my two favorite taco trucks; those being Tacoheads and The Chile Pepper Grill. Both are great! They play good music here also. Be warned it is a smoking bar and parking can be a little difficult because there are some parking lots around that seem good but they will tow your vehicle (Montgomery plaza comes to mind). This is a well respected bar by the locals. They serve drinks, not food so grab your friends and a pizza and watch the game, sit and chat, play some darts! Ive met some really cool people here, which is a nice break from some bars that attract weirdos. The owner is really nice, and it is easy to see he cares about his bar and customers. They constantly bring in new beers, which is nice because I like to try new things, the idea of a bar that never varies makes me sick. The staff is cool, they don't mess around and id everyone. I went to Abbey on a Thursday night at around 730. Great dark and woody atmosphere. The bartenders were very personable and attentive. Many people were regulars. They were very friendly and great conversation. The noise level was low. More like a true pub. A decent amount of taps (Goose island IPA, 4 Rahr taps, Guinness, Smithwicks, a cider, Bud Light, Mich Ultra, Coors light, Miller Lite), and a couple of craft brews in bottles (most of the bottles are light beers). I like Abbey Pub a lot! Cheap drinks and fun atmosphere - they have a shuffleboard and darts. There's enough room to move around without it feeling like you're in a warehouse. The one con is that it's somewhat smokey. I like it because it is quieter than some of the other bigger bars on 7th street, which can get way too loud. When you're on a bar-crawl with a group, Abbey is definitely one that we tend to pick as a final destination. read more
