The basement bar is easy to pass by walking down the strip. It's advertised as the worlds smallest honky tonk but it was not as small as it sounds. Basement bar has a great atmosphere with people just dancing, drinking and having a great time. The dollar bills lining the whole place is awesome and fun to just read what they all say. Besides being a bit of a death trap this is a pretty fun dive bar. Dollar bills cost the ceiling and people are friendly. The door man was friendly and funny. Great little "dive bar" that is literally in a basement. They're on the corner of W Main and N Exchange. If you walk too fast you'll miss it. We were there in the early evening, so I don't know what the late night vibe is. Bartenders were friendly and welcoming and they pour a nice strong drink. There's a small dance floor and stage. (Not sure if they have live music), they do play country through a sound system. There are TVs that were streaming the football game. Great people watching witch is my favorite sport. While we were there it appeared to be 4:1 ratio of single women to men...if that helps. All in all an enjoyable time. read more

Lol got kicked out for sitting down because my feet hurt....(was sitting there for barely a song, mom and bday girl went to dance for neon moon, the guy lied and said I was there for 20 mins for a 3 min song) celebrating a birthday and would have spent a decent amount of money due to the celebration but they had to be d**ks ‍my future step father (family event) attempted to stand up for me. ladies do not where heels cause they will tell u to leave for no reason when they are a packed house. One drink was purchased after getting to the stockyards maybe 1hour prior(dinner was had prior and no drinks purchased) I work in the industry and this is actually ridiculous, maybe pay attention to folks who are actually breaking major rules/laws not a cutesy girl in foot pain and her step dad 8pm ish medium/tall height (I'm 5'8 in heels) skinny guy wearing staff shirt on a power trip (I think he was drunk as no normal employee should get that frazzled to politely ask a girl to move (especially when u are the only one sitting) Definitely minors in this bar so for 2 of age payu guests be asked to leave for sitting is crazy...I'm 24 and he is 48 lol. When we go out we spend a good amount as celebrating should be. Missed out on sales and tips. I liked the idea of being here. We came early on a Saturday so didn't really get to feel the vibe. It was a bit rank down there but it fit the ambiance. There were some bikers at the bar, but as I said it was still early so nothing was really happening. The bartender let us sign a dollar to put on the ceiling. Came here to have a drink with my buddy while we were out here for a wedding and our wives left us to stay the night with the bride to be. Cool place, can't say the same about the staff. I left our seat at the bar to use the restroom, came back and a party of 4 girls were standing next to us ordering a drink. Bartender messes up their order, girls report it, then asks us if we want the messed up drinks. We say sure, we will try them - Keep in mind, we don't give a shit one way or the other if we have them, at this point we probably have a tab close to $100 started between the two of us so we are plenty capable of ordering our own drinks - weren't looking for a free hand out. Bartender sees this and says she will have to charge us for the messed up drinks if we drink them, I said "really? Well we don't want them then." She proceeds to grab them and toss them down the drain. At this point the bar is busy, I ask her when you have a moment I have a question for you. Shortly after she comes back to me and asks me whats up. So I politely say "just out of curiosity why would you throw those drinks you made away instead of allowing us to atleast try them? they were made in error, why would you care if we drank them or not if you are just gonna toss them down the drain, at a minimum it could be seen as good will towards the customer and hell you would probably get a bigger tip from us." She proceeded to get hostile, say she gave 6 drinks away for free already tonight (not to us) and got ugly with me? By her demeanor I knew a civilized conversation was not going to happen so I just let it go and let her carry on with her night. Me and my buddy proceed to continue our drinks and watch the game that was on until shortly after the bartender decides to approach us on her own out of of nowhere and say "plus you are stealing"...really??? Before I could even get a response out she walks away. I look at my buddy and say let me know when you are finished with your drink and ready to go because this next question will be sure to get us kicked out. Few moments go by, we finish our drinks, I get her attention and say "ma'am can I have your managers contact information" knowing how our previous encounters went I knew this would set her off and much to my speculation she got livid and said "for what? I am the manager?" I said "well how about the owners information then" she obviously refused, had some bitchy remark back, proceeded to call her elf bar back or whatever he was to kick us out. On the way out I created a scene. Bottom line, the customer service here is piss poor. I would never go back to this place. In an area where there is 50+ bars within a mile radius you would think at a minimum you would have decent customer service to atleast set you apart from the competition. Basement Bar is at least to some extent, exactly what the name implies, a subterranean watering hole featuring a lengthy bar, the requisite number of tables, and a stage at the back where, presumably, singer-songwriters ply their trade. Some of the other reviewers mentioned burlesque, but on the night I stopped by, all I saw was a couple of guys onstage with a few miles of gravel road and a pair of guitars between em. This is, as I could come to discover, a bit of a musician's bar, and not in the sense that music is being played here: you can find that lots of places. It's a spot where musicians come to hear each other play, to talk up the good old days, and to soak in the night. They'll also no doubt have to soak in some of the smog around 'em, too, but for now, that goes with territory. read more

Walking into this place makes it feel like a well kept secret, its hidden at the bottom of some stairs. It really does feel like you are in someone's basement. They had a live band playing and they weren't so loud so you could still have a conversation with the people next to you. The band that was there this night had a guy playing the washboard which is pretty different for the friends we brought visiting from New Jersey.
