What a great find in Hamlin. They have flavors of the day which is cool. The custard is very silky and creamy. They have many options like a Sundae, a milkshake, or something. Similar to a McFlurry (couldn't remember the name). The ladies serving us were super helpful as we were newbies. She offered samples and talked us thru the menu. They do have a few tables inside where you can sit and enjoy your dessert. For a large custard and a waffle cone with custard, we paid around $12-$14. I stumbled upon Abbott's as I was running errands and decided to treat myself to something sweet. When walking in you can see everything is clean and taken care of. There were signs everywhere to explain flavors, products, and overall options. You can even buy merchandise if you'd like. Their employee was very kind in explaining how their shop worked and that they switch out flavors daily. Apparently if there is a flavor you want from a previous day it can sometimes be found in the freezer served as a pint. After talking through the options I asked for an Oreo cheesecake flurry. It was full of flavor and loved how fresh the cheesecake and Oreo pieces were. They were kind enough to top it off with whip cream. We lit a couple of candles and had a little daddy daughter birthday celebration, complete with singing "Happy Birthday" and blowing out the candles. We ordered wheels, one chocolate custard with a chocolate chip cookie, and one vanilla custard with a peanut butter cookie. We only ordered these after sampling the oreo cheesecake custard, which was very cheesecake, and almost zero oreo, and deciding the flavored custard wasn't worth it. Turns out they dont know how to put flavor in anything. The peanut butter cookie was the la croix of cookies. They must have used a spoon that once touched peanut butter to mix the batter and called it a peanut butter cookie. On top of minimal flavor, the wheels are FROZEN. And yes, it's ice cream, it's frozen, i get it. But the cookies were painful to eat. Someone in my party said that maybe they are meant to be brought home and eaten later, if thats the case, they should tell you that. Either way, there are no plans to go back. read more

We've been to Abbott's twice in the last month. The first time we were next door getting lunch and I stepped in on a whim and ended up buying a cookie dough pie for my husbands birthday. When I tell y'all it was DELICIOUS. The custard is creamy and delightful, it had so much fudge, and the crust was so good too. Just all around will be coming back for another birthday pie later on. I'm originally from Wisconsin, where custard is a big deal. Whenever I see custard down here I just have to try it - I can't help myself. I was is the area and my husband saw the custard sign so we knew we had to stop in. We opted for the custard flight - I wish more places would offer this as an option because it's a great way to try out a few flavors, especially when at a new place. We got the chocolate, strawberry waffle, and black raspberry. They all were creamy and the perfect consistency. The black raspberry was our favorite - I think next time I'll get it with some fudge mixed in - it reminded me of the black raspberry ice cream from Graeter's for anyone who's been to Cincinnati. Super yummy and smooth custard can be had here! We are exploring the new businesses one by one back in the Hamlin section of Horizon West so it was time for ice cream. We ventured out for a treat and I picked the peanut butter chocolate crunch and it was so smooth and tasty. My wife had the Flurry with peanut butter cups. Both were spot on and tasted great. Mine was in a waffle cone and it was done perfectly, as they should be, and fresh. There is lots of outside seating in the area so that is a plus but the best thing was we had unintentionally planned it right on time for the Magic Kingdom fireworks and we stood there and ate our ice cream while watching. I was excited to see Abbott's Frozen Custard open in Hamlin. There is a small seating area but the tables turned over pretty quick. I was happy to see that the staff was very friendly even though they were slammed with what seemed to be an endless line of customers. They sell cakes, sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes and more. There is a sign at the far end of restaurant that has the daily flavors written on it. I think that it would be a good idea to have another sign close to where you walk in. Placed close to where you walk in and wait in line gives your party time to make decisions before getting up to the register. Their frozen custard is made in small batches daily. We tried the chocolate almond, coffees and mint Oreo. All of the flavors where thick, smooth and fresh tasting. Our favorite was the coffee flavor. read more

Today was their Grand Opening and I was very impressed. I ordered a Chocolate Almond Custard Sundae with Hot Fudge and Butterscotch. The custard is really creamy and has a nice chocolate flavor. The almonds were a good quantity and provided a nice crunch factor. Hot Fudge and Butterscotch were not too much not too little just perfect. The one spot to improve would be whipped cream. There was a lot on my sundae and I am not a huge whip cream fan. I like just a little. This place was hopping and I had a 15 minute wait to get to the counter. They have a lot of frozen treats you could also get including frozen custard cookie sandwiches, frozen bananas, pies and cakes. They also have custard popcicles. This is a wonderful addition to the Hamlin neighborhood and overall Winter Garden community. We stopped in a few nights ago and wow. The overall decor is trendy and clean. There is some seating inside with additional seating outside. The line was pretty long while we were there, but the staff was working really hard to get through it. I figured we would easily be waiting 15 minutes or so, but they moved us through quickly. My only suggestion here would be to put the flavors of the day closer to the entrance. By the time it was our turn to order, I had just gotten to a point where I could read the menu boards. I was able to make a decision quickly, but I could see this being harder with kids in tow. Now for the custard. We loved that their custard is made fresh daily. This means their flavors change day to day. I chose the peanut butter crunch and it was delicious. They have several toppings to choose from (shout out to the rainbow sprinkles) as well as waffle cones and bowls. My husband opted for the ice cream cookie sandwich called the chip wheel. They have several fun things in their take home case including ice cream cakes and pies. Overall really really excited to have a dessert spot in Hamlin! Being from the Rochester, NY, area where Abbott's was founded, it was exciting to have this treat in a warmer location. I also wanted to support my hometown business. The store itself is fairly large inside, and there are so many options and seasonal/daily flavors to choose from. A "small" cone or dish is quite big. Being that it was fall (yet still hot because it's Florida!), I ordered the pumpkin frozen custard. It was delicious and creamy. Everyone was very friendly and efficient there. Very clean place. I liked how in addition to the small and large size ice cream, they also have a kid size, which is smaller than the--small. Perfect for my little girls. The only thing I wasn't too fond of is how they put toppings on. They dip and roll the ice cream in the topping of your choice, so you would most likely taste the flavor before (especially when its mint ice cream being dipped before your chocolate).
