There's this thing in boxing where a fighter will avoid a fight by pricing themselves out of it. Instead of declining the challenge, they will ask for an exorbitant amount of money and move on when negotiations inevitably fall through. Three years ago, I had an American Standard unit installed to replace an old unit. One Friday in September, it started clanking and shaking the house. The blower wheel came apart, and the blower motor went out. As this was clearly under warranty, the outcome was expected: the warranty would cover parts, and I would pay for labor. The technician promptly showed up and disassembled within 20 minutes. The diagnosis was straightforward, as the damage was visible. The price for labor? $1150. Went to Yelp for bids, and they all (7 in total) came in in the range of $275-$600. I went with a company right in the middle ($450) as their communication and availability inspired the most confidence. Several other reviews here will corroborate that warranty work is not a strong suit. I cannot give one star as the installation three years ago went really smoothly, and the technicians they have sent out are punctual, competent, and friendly. To their credit, they drove back the same day to drop off the damaged parts so I could have the work done by someone else. I was charged the $99 diag fee - which is fair as nobody should work for free. This wasn't very reassuring, as we make a conscious effort to support local, minority-owned businesses. read more

I first contacted ABC Austin on May 28 for replacing some drain pans and float switches on the units in my attic. I received their quote and gave them the go ahead and signed their contract on June 2. Now more than 1 month later, the job has not been done. The final straw was a 7am appointment set for yesterday that they failed to show up for even though I have a text message confirming the date. Over the last month, I have left many voice messages, text messages, and spoke in person with Omar where his follow up has been almost non-existent. I give them 2 stars because their quote price was fair, but please stay away from this company unless you want to waste a lot of time all for nothing. read more

Omar and his team were so wonderful to work with! Our a/c coil had a massive leak and the unit completely stopped working. They were super responsive, made us a priority, worked with the warranty department to get us a replacement coil asap, and were super efficient installing the new part (and ours was a complex setup). They even made sure to cover all surrounding areas with a drop cloth to keep our floors clean. They showed us the old coil (and the oil that leaked out) and the new coil to explain how it was built differently (therefore less prone to leaking) to educate us. This company provides absolutely terrible customer service. They were a no show TWICE for us this week during the heat of the Texas summer. It's been 100+ degrees all week, and we were frantically looking for an AC repair company when our unit stopped cooling. We scheduled with ABC this past Sunday, and they didn't show. I had to follow-up with them to get a reschedule today but again no show and the receptionist is ignoring my texts. I'm attaching texts with this business's listed contact number as proof of their no show and no follow-up. It's almost two hours after our scheduled appmnt today, and I haven't heard back. We had an emergency plumbing situation on Sunday, and ABC Austin Service Express not only failed to help us at all, but actually made the situation worse. The plumbing connected to our dishwasher malfunctioned and started to flood our kitchen. We called ABC to see if they could come out to help (as our kitchen was still flooding, since the line to turn off water to our house was also not functioning), and the receptionist told us they could definitely help out and she would send a message to the plumber on call. Thinking that someone would be on the way to help us, we wasted precious minutes waiting for the plumber to call us back. He did, about 15 minutes later, and said he had concluded from what the receptionist told him that it was a dishwasher issue and that he couldn't help us at all. Are you kidding me? How could he even tell from the short description the receptionist gave him what was even wrong with the plumbing? We then had to start frantically calling other places because ABC left us in the lurch. The receptionist and weekend plumber need to be retrained with how to deal with emergency situations. Just tell people when they initially call that you can't help. Their website says they handle "emergency situations," but trust me, they don't. read more

I had two AC/Heat units replaced December 2021. One unit was making noise and had a foul odor. They would come out after several complaints but kept claiming nothing was wrong. After months of complaints they finally replaced a compressor. Also I found out they never inspected or took care of duct work after I spent thousands of dollars on the new systems. There is so much more to this story. But, hopefully this is enough of a warning. Our family has been breathing bad air for a year. Which could have been easily addressed the first time they came out. Right now we have not been able to heat or cool part of the house for over a week. We were waiting on Omar to fix the issue. But we were ghosted for days. When Omar quit answering texts we decided we are better off paying more to switch companies. Even though we are under warranty. I don't want anything to do with ABC. Right in the middle of a hot July summer day, our airconditioning unit in our commerce space decides it has had enough and stops working. We called our regular AC maintenance company to have them take a look at it and see what was wrong with it. After looking at it, the Technician that came out said we needed a whole new unit and just kept on insisting we just needed an entirely new AC system. Crazy Story -- My neighbor across the street had a leaking evaporator coil. The neighbor next to me had their AC serviced two days ago and on the same night my AC system was acting up. Thermostat was reading 74 but inside the temp was rising to 76+ and the unit was continuously running for several hours. I immediately called a company for an AC check. The first company found that I, too, had a faulty evaporator coil (manufacture defect) and they quoted me an obscene amount of money to fix it, along with the diagnostic fee I already paid. I would have to wait several days for repairs - on to plan B... Super helpful with my extremely old water heater. I knew I probably needed a new one so when they told me, I was ready for it! They let me know my options for a new heater and I went with a new tank. They replaced all the fixtures and water pipes. Put in a drain pan that we needed and got it lit and working. They were a no show and no call. Called them and they said a job ran over and scheduled me for 5/18 between 8:00 and 10:00. They were a no show and no call. I had a new AC coil & condenser installed back in May this year by another HVAC technician (Jaime Rivas who lives in Buda) who was recommended to me by a friend. When I asked for an invoice/receipt Jaime said his wife was going to mail it to me. I called him a week later b/c I had not received my receipt. He made up an excuse and said he will send it soon. 2 weeks went by and still no receipt. I call him and he did not pick up and did not return my call. 4 months later my AC stopped working but I did not want to call Jaime Rivas even though he said his work came with 1 year warranty. I did not trust the guy anymore and did not want to use him ever again. I decided to call ABC Austin Service Express. Omar (the owner) came to my house but was not able to diagnose the issue b/c my condenser was frozen. He told me to turn off the AC and let the fan run to allow it to defrost. Hours later it defrosted so ABC sent another technician (Luis) out to diagnosis the issue. Unfortunately it started raining so he wasn't able to do a complete diagnosis and the coil was still frozen. He suspected that the coil was leaking freon and he found low pressures. I scheduled another appointment 3 days later and another technician came out (Frank) and was able to run a complete diagnositic and confirmed that the leak was coming from my coil and the pressures were low. I had lost 3.5 lbs of freon which normally takes years to lose that much freon on a proper functioning unit. The original guy I hired (Jaime Rivas) who does not work for ABC Austin Service Express did a shitty ass job installing my unit. My friend who recommended him had 2 AC units installed by him and both of the coils ended up breaking down like mine. I was so furious so I reported him to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). It turns out the guy was unlicensed so now an attorney will be giving him a fine for doing unlicensed work. Anyways, Frank who works for ABC Austin Service Express installed a new coil and he did an amazing job! He took his time and took a lot longer than Jaime did when he installed the coil and the condenser back in May. Frank's job was much cleaner as well! It's been 2 weeks since my AC has been fixed by Frank and it has been cooling much better than it did before. Recently the weather drastically became cold so I had to use my heater. Unfortunately it wouldn't turn on so I was worried that now I had to replace my furnace. I contacted Frank and he walked me through a few things and it turned out to be the gas valve was shut off (I suspect Jaime Rivas did this so he could get me to replace my furnace). Frank saved me a service call which I appreciate since I've spent so much money dealing with this situation. Frank as well as Omar & Luis were very courteous, honest, and gave great customer service! I don't know why this company doesn't appear on page one of HVAC searches because they are truly fantastic!! They were one of 3 companies we sought quotes from and even though they weren't the cheapest, they were the most knowledgeable. Our old HVAC unit was creating mold because it was too large for our house. ABC referred me to another company to do a heat load capacity test so that we purchased the right size unit for our home. We did this and then hired them to install the unit. They pointed out inefficiencies and made corrections where needed to give us the most comfortable living environment. While they were installing, we asked them to add a duct cleaning to the order and Omar leveled with us, telling us that it wouldn't improve the air quality because the mold was trapped in the ducts; he showed us some examples of how bad our situation really was. We decided to replace the ducts too. I can't put a price on our family's safety and how happy we are knowing we are breathing clean air.
