I worked with this company and the cut's rebate program to install a new HVC system in 2024, They were great, installation and inspections went smoothly as did last summer. Now my system is leaking in the weekend and their emergency number requests you send an email. No response for24 hours so forget help in an emergency. Then they say they can come in 2 weeks while I swelter or turn the system on to destroy my kitchen ceiling and mold growing. They claim small busy staff but no sense of urgency. The problem seems to be an install problem with a party the city says is required and they claim is not. So disappointed in their follow up. I cannot recommend them. read more

I really wanted to give this business a higher rating because my initial experience with Anthony was fantastic. He provided a thorough inspection and great feedback as we looked to upgrade our AC and centralize our system. Unfortunately, that's where the service ended. Despite following up multiple times since the summer, I never received a quote or a return call. To make matters worse, the office staff was incredibly unprofessional; the woman I spoke with was short, dismissive, and lacked basic customer service skills. Do yourself a favor--there are many other companies in Austin that are more responsive and work directly with Austin Energy (CoA) for incentives. I am not in a position to review their actual services, as they made it impossible to schedule any. I called to set up an appointment. Naturally, the date I was given was a couple of weeks out (standard) but as the date got closer and I did not receive any confirmation or follow up I reached out to confirm the appointment. I was told that my appointment had been cancelled as I did not provide a credit card at the time I made the reservation. At the time I had originally made the reservation, I did not have my card handy and was told that I could call back with the information but that they would need it before they could send a truck out. I was not told that reservations would be subject to cancellation without a credit card on file. Uncool. When I provided feedback that they should inform folks of that policy upfront to avoid service delays and frustration on the part of customers I was told I should find another service provider. They are clearly so resistant to considering the needs of clients that they will not serve anyone who suggests that they might consider doings so. Before hanging up, I clarified whether they would not take my card information for a second reservation. They refused. It is disheartening as the actual technicians came highly recommended by friends, but their booking staff and policies are a firewall. Beyond being an impediment to actually getting an appointment, a lack of frontline customer service is a huge red flag. Clearly I dodged a bullet here, you should, too. The representatives who came out to evaluate my home for efficiency upgrades were through, professional and explained everything needed without the sales pitch for excessive spending I've experienced with so many other providers in Austin. Communication from the office was quick, and the crew showed up when expected and finished the job in the amount of time promised. Everyone on the job was professional, courteous and again did a great job explaining all that was done and any little changes that had to be made. This company has solved an issue I have lived with for 20 years. I have had other companies redo ductwork, inspect the attic area, make recommendations, with no acceptable solution until now. I have lived with uneven temperatures upstairs and downstairs causing the AC unit to run forever and overheat the upstairs. Finally this company solved the problem with a new system at a good price and the installation of dampers. They spent a few hours in the attic and it has finally been resolved with even temps both upstairs and down. Friendly and fair prices were offered. I liked the team that was sent out. They were very respectful and I could trust them to work independently when I had errands to run. I was also offered very low financing on my new system for 5 and 10 year terms. I will be cancelling my service contract with my previous company and depend on Totally Cool. The office contact was helpful as well. Shelly was the best! I like her attitude and all of communications were easy to follow. If you want a good deal from a company you can trust, just speak with any member of their team that works on your system. I decided to replace my 23 year old furnace this autumn, so I got 3 HVAC contractors to inspect the system and give me quotes. They all had pretty similar recommendations, 2-stage natural gas furnace and replace the evaporator coil as well. However, I got sticker shock from the other 2 bids, which were quoting a total that I would have expected for a total system replacement, not just the indoor units. Totally Cool was the only one to give a quote that matched up with my expectations based on location averages and data. That's not to say it was cheap, because I didn't want to cheap out on installation only to get subpar service and unreliable heating. I got my new 2-stage natural gas furnace installed in my attic in September, and I paid extra to install smart thermostats that I supplied. I paid 1/2 upfront with check and the other half after installation. Totally Cool showed up on the date we scheduled at 9 am. They were able to finish up by 6-7 pm, and they left everything relatively clean. I waited a couple months to write this review to see how well the system is doing and to see how well the furnace heats my home, and I have to say, so far I'm happy with it. The heating and cooling is working well, nothing's broken down, and it doesn't seem to struggle with reaching the temperature I want want. Furthermore, Totally Cool has a 1-year parts and labor warranty, so they'll come out and fix it if something goes wrong after the install. read more

After having lived through hot summers in central Texas for the last three decades, I have had the opportunity to work with several AC repair companies who are well-known in our city. They have all been generally good, however, my experience over the last 1-year with Totally Cool has been truly exceptional, and I would rate them a cut above their competitors. Their execution is excellent all the way from scheduling the initial appointment, adherence to schedule, the quality of their work, cleanup, follow-through, and overall value. Aside from their execution on various repairs to my existing systems, I have been most impressed with their "from-scratch" work related to installing new ductwork and most recently installation of a new split AC system. The split system installation was a complex project leveraging existing vents, rerouting ductwork, while requiring new decking in the attic, a new air return, and connections (electrical / coolant) to the outside. Given that this was an existing house, I was resigned to a functional solution with compromised aesthetics. However, I am delighted to have ended up with an aesthetically pleasing solution that works beautifully. I have heard about and known Totally Cool for all of 1 hour and I am a raving fan already. I called them based on a recommendation from my realtor. I had messed something up when switching our thermostat and our AC and heat no longer worked. We were having a home inspection from a person interested in buying our house. Not having a working HVAC system would have been pretty bad. The person that responded when I called had someone routed to my home in less than a few minutes. I wasn't expecting it to be that fast so I had to get in my car immediately and head back to my house to meet them there. I got there the same time they did and within 10 minutes they had discovered and fixed the problem. I had blown a fuse while incorrectly wiring my thermostat. They put in a better fuse (easier to replace) since my current one was old and outdated. They tested all the systems before they left. He only charged me for a checkup visit and a few bucks for the fuse. I couldn't be happier. read more

For over a decade, Shelly at Totally Cool has handled scheduling regular maintenance on my AC and heating at the (now rental) house twice a year. They let me know if something is wonky, and they don't rip me off when I authorize repairs. We have been really, really happy with the service techs and staff. Two thumbs up. I chose these guys over 3 other AC companies because they were the cheapest and Mark explained the different options and prices without trying to up sell. He was very flexible with me wanting to get a heat pump hybrid system and even recommended installing another register in a room that gets a hot spot. He was not a high pressure salesman with fancy brochures and high prices. Other bids were asking 3-4 thousand more dollars. A few months ago, my husband and I were ready to take the leap and purchase a new A/C after many brutal Austin summers. At the suggestion of a friend, we called Totally Cool and requested a bid for installation. Charlie came to the house and shared that he worked on the identical house across the street many moons ago. Not long after his visit, his office emailed a bid that came close to the amount we had in mind. Stew and Juan arrived and installed our new HVAC equipment, a Lennox heat pump and air handler, and Nest thermostat within a few hours. The only thing that threw us off was the 3% fee to pay with a credit card. It was a little off putting after spending so much on the new equipment and labor. Recently, we returned home to a warm house and a Nest thermostat that was not receiving power. It was late on a Saturday night. Since the Totally Cool office is closed on weekends, we called first thing Monday morning. By lunch time, Anthony arrived at the house to look into things. He was a professional - incredibly knowledgeable, answered all of my questions in detail, rewired the Nest thermostat that we tinkered with trying to play Mr. and Mrs. Fixit over the weekend. It didn't take him long at all to find the problem - tripped circuit breaker (if I remember correctly) - and he took his time to ensure we were in solid shape before he left. I am a renter and the mgt. company managing my rental home uses Totally cool. The issue in my home was complicated and Anthony was so great at explaining everything to me and explaining what the steps to diagnosing the issue and how to fix it. He worked with my landlord and me to find a solution, even though eventually it did require replacing the outside unit. He did everything he could to save this system, and was very up front about everything. He came by to check the work of some techs, and when he found some issues (the only reason they don't get 5 stars is b/c of some mistakes which were totally addressed and fixed in a timely fashion) they were addressed and are now fixed. I think some of the techs need some more experience, maybe, but Anthony fixed everything and came back to make sure everything was right. AC is a tricky thing, and I'm happy my mgt company uses these folks, and if I can ever afford a home here, I'd call them first for any AC needs. read more

So, don't do this. Find someone else for whatever you're doing. I bought a new central AC/heat pump and had it installed by these guys. I went through Austin Energy's 0% interest energy improvements program. (By the way, don't think just because a company has been "approved" by AE for this program that they have been vetted for competence in any way!) After two days of installation, during which my thermostat HAD to be moved for some reason, they left me with a gaping hole in my wall and a complete mess on my patio, including some mystery substance on my tile that literally took gasoline to remove. Eh, whatever, at least I have a new super efficient bitchin' machine, right? Until a cold snap hit and my electric bills rocketed to new highs, that my previous unit - manufactured in 1983 - had never achieved. Turned out they wired the thing wrong in some fashion. Still under service warranty, they came out not once but twice to rectify this situation. By the time the second service call was done, winter was over and no chance for me to know for certain the problem was fixed. Flash forward to the next extreme cold snap. Same problem! Not under service warranty now, bwahaha. In a way, I'm glad it's not under warranty this time though. Even though I will have to pay to get this thing installed right FINALLY, at least there will be some hope of it actually being fixed. Because I'm certainly not calling these guys. read more

Here's what happened, our AC went out then we called one of the more highly rated air conditioning companies. This guy came over he looked over the unit and then we met at the kitchen table and he proceeded to tell me that I needed to buy an entire new system costing around $15,000. He seemed a little nervous when he was showing me his glossy brochures showing these new systems. Even though we were burning up and it was the middle of summer, I decided to get another quote . City conservation came over the guy opened it up and lifted out some doohickey capacitor he showed it to me and told me this was what's causing the problem. So it was a burnt out capacitor and it cost me about 40 bucks to fix including labor. Used these guys over the last few years to do cleanups adjustments among other things. What kind of rating you give a company that saves you $15,000? read more

City Conservation has been keeping our house and company cool for a couple of years now. The latest one was an issue with our AE (piece of crap) thermostat. They came out the same night in Feb around 8 pm and installed a top of the line thermostat at no charge! I found later that this was quite an expensive LCD screen thermostat. (Dont think naming the price is appropriate.) I have recommend them to many of our shops customers. HIGHLY recomended. read more

We had Charlie come out to our home when we were interested in getting a new AC unit as our unit had seen far too many hot, Texas days. He gave us great information and a much more in-depth analysis of what would be best for our current needs and situation. Since they also do whole home energy efficiency services, he was able to give us some general information about other ways we could save energy in the house. He told us that the majority of the things that he would recommend are already complete (solar shades, above average insulation in the attic). While that might seem like a minor thing, it showed that he wasn't trying to sell us on unnecessary accessories/services. It showed in the price for the new unit as well, which was a good bit lower than other estimates and has been working perfectly even in the hottest months! The installers were great as well. read more
