Abercrombie has appraised the set for over 16,000.00 My wife and I are upgrading her set and I took this one by Abercrombie for appraisal and possible sale to Abercrombie. I stopped in to have a watch resized, which being someone who used to work at a store that sold watches, it takes about 10 seconds and all the store associates could do it, with a very basic little gun that shoots out the pins. Right away, I could tell the girl was annoyed that I was asking for this cause they probably get it all the time. But just a warning to people it takes multiple days to get it done here and they charge $40 which is insane. We never charged for it because customer retention was important and doing this little act of kindness was not a big deal. I will say if you're looking for a place to get this done, because it seems to be hard to find a quick spot, Krugers Diamond Jewelers on Congress does it right away and doesn't charge. They just say "think of us when you're in the market". Once the guy there did charge me $10-$15 (can't remember) but that's not a problem. $40 however, is a "go away please" price for something that's extremely simple to do and like I said, takes ten seconds with zero training. I gave them 2 stars cus their jewelry did look pretty and they have the Cartier love bracelets which I'm a massive fan of. read more

I commissioned a custom ring from AJ at Abercrombie a few weeks ago. I went to pick it up today and am seriously delighted by the ring. It is exactly as we discussed, but the quality of the craftsmanship is even better than I could have imagined. This is the second ring I have commissioned, the first from a different jeweler and I was so disappointed that my very clear description and diagram were so completely not replicated in the physical ring, I almost cried the first time I saw it. So when I went to get my ring from AJ, I was at little apprehensive when I flipped open the box. It was exactly as I'd pictured it. Even better. Awesome. Smiles. Happy Friday. The ring is a ruby (or synthetic, can't remember / doesn't matter) with two citrines, in a palladium setting. I chose palladium because I like platinum but can't afford it and white gold never looks white enough for me and you know, I'm not getting sterling silver. If you are in a similar situation, I would highly recommend palladium, it is gorgeous and since it is naturally white, it doesn't have to be "dipped" like white gold to stay that color. I really love the setting and the cut of the gemstones is perfect, they are so sparkly and pretty. AJ may see me in Abercrombie again, possibly to have this ring sized down, I seem to be in between a 6 and a 6.5 (you know, if any of you Yelpers want to buy me some bling); possibly to have it cleaned after the ring ceremony at graduation (apparently, you're supposed to dunk your ring in a glass of beer then pound the beer--we're Aggies, duh); or hopefully someday to commission some more jewelry. I can't recommend Abercrombie enough. They saved me from horror of having to buy the official class ring and gave me something I can actually enjoy wearing, at a fair price, in a excellent time frame. Perfecto! read more

My now husband and I wished to have a setting that really showed off our OEC diamond and had a low profile. We showed A.J. and Steph what we were thinking and were provided great insight. We were very impressed with their off the bat knowledge! The store was also very prompt and responsive to our emails, no matter what we were inquiring about. Most of all, the ring is absolutely beautiful. Abercrombie Gems also resized my husband's natural white gold wedding band, which is a family heirloom. It was his mother's original wedding band (his parents had matching bands), so it had to be resized about 2 sizes up. It came out perfect, as the ring came out looking the same, just bigger. Unfortunately, my vintage engagement ring was mangled by another jeweler in the process of resizing, and I thought the damages were irreparable. Abercrombie Gems was able to completely bring my ring back to life and fix all of the warping/breaks that had happened to it. Katy & Steph were super helpful in letting me know what exactly happened to my ring to make it disfigured, listening to how I wanted it look, and communicating how this process of getting it fixed would work. My experience here was kind of meh...the jeweler introduced himself to me on the phone when I called ahead but not when I popped in. I dropped off my ring and felt really odd about it because I didn't establish any sort of understanding with the man behind the counter that would be sizing down my engagement ring. It was tough enough to trust having it sized down but to leave the shop feeling as though I'd left my engagement ring with strangers was a bit overwhelming not to mention unnerving. I got it back and you can see where it was sanded down to hide the seams from the ring being cut and sized down as if it were done quickly and haphazardly--much like the initial transaction. What is more is that he did not even verify who I was when I picked it up! They have custom made pieces in the store that are absolutely beautiful but whoever was manning the store did not even offer to show me wedding bands or explain any of the services they provide as custom jewelery makers. I felt he could not get me out the store fast enough. I went here at a friend's recommendation, but I think next time I'll stick with Benold's if I want to keep it local for fine jewelry. Lack of service and lack of care is certainly not what you expect from a jeweler. read more

I have a very special antique ring that needed some repairs. I debated for a long time where to take it to because I was worried about the cost and the delicacy of the ring. It's probably worth more in sentimental value then actual value so I didn't want to spend too much on repairs. I had visited Abercrombie's website several times and was impressed with the antique jewelry they had so I decided to give them a try. I stopped by while I was in Westlake, told them what I wanted done. The whole transaction took about 5 minutes and the staff was very nice. They told me they would call back and give me a quote. About 5 min. after I left the store they called back and I gave me the quote and told me when it would be ready. The quote they gave was amazing, and I was so happy that everything seemed to be straightforward, honest, and helpful. Customer service is severly lacking these days but not at Abercrombie. I picked up my ring this week and they did an amazing job, the price was exactly what they quoted me and they shined it up so it was super sparkly. I took away a star because they told me it would be ready on a Thursday and it wasn't ready until the following Tuesday. However, I was in no hurry and just wanted the job done well and felt like I got this at Abercrombie. I have worked with Abercrombie Gems twice and each time I was very happy with the service. The first time, in 2009, I was just looking to sell a ring for the best price I could get. I tried a few other jewelers in town, and AG&PM gave me the best bid. I was able to sell that ring and buy a bad ass dresser, that, honestly, made me happier than that ring ever did. More recently, I wasn't looking to sell a ring, but instead change out the diamond with another stone. I wanted it to look less Stepford Wife and more rock star. Once again, when I walked in I was reminded how welcoming and warm the shop was. The lovely girls behind the counter were easy to chat with and made me feel comfortable. The store has the most ridiculously beautiful vintage jewelry - that, along with the treatment I received, made me feel way cooler than I am. Onto AJ! AJ is the jeweler of the shop and listened to the ideas I had and how I wanted the ring to look. He seemed to know exactly what I wanted without me having to say much. At other shops, I felt like I should have brushed up on my jeweler jargon so I could understand what they were talking about. AJ and I looked at a few different stones and settled on a dark green, that we agreed would turn me into the rock star I wanted to be. I was worried it was going to be a bit dark, but I decided to trust the professional. A week later I got a call that it was ready to be picked up. Again, my coolness level increased when I walked in the shop, and I got to bring my pup, which the girls loved, and I loved them more for it. The ring is GORGEOUS, the stone that AJ recommended is perfect and looks fabulous in the setting, and, more importantly, I feel fancy shmancy when I wear it. I highly recommend checking out AG&PM before going anywhere else, why waste your time when you will end up there anyway??? They understood the piece held high sentimental value and were reassuring that they dealt with antique and fine jewelry day in day out. However, the family heirloom necklace that I took to be repaired wasn't repaired exactly as it should have been based on both the repair person's suggestions and my instruction. Perhaps whomever did the repair wasn't who I met with when I dropped off the piece? Functionally, the necklace and charm are wearable and while disappointed, we've decided to keep it as is. (They did offer for me to bring it back in to see what could be done). Understand this job could have been an aberration in their quality work but wanted to share my experience. read more

I was greeted very warmly by the staff, even though the owner was assisting other customers. I had gold to sell, as well as needed an item appraised. While I was waiting, I had the opportunity to look at their designs which are, quite simply, stunning. The owner was extremely helpful, cordial and knowledgeable, and I found him to be amazing. I can't tell you how excited I was to find A.J. and have him work on my ring! He is brilliant! I just picked it up and can't believe how wonderful it looks! Let me start from the beginning. We got engaged on 01/01/2013. My fiancee gave me his Grandmother's ring she was given in 1925. Needless to say, it's a very special piece. It was too big but for the first 2 weeks I just wanted to wear it. I thought I had heard great things about Kruger's downtown so I took the ring there to have them size it. The Jeweler came out, looked at my ring and told me it was going to need much more than just sizing. The band had a crack, the prongs were not holding any of the diamonds correctly (11 diamonds total), and it needed to be 'dipped again". Please forgive my ignorance, the dipped again thing was something about the rundown of all the metal. He told me all of this would cost somewhere around $785. I was disappointed but, it was 83 years old and figured it might just be time for a little face lift. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't go back. My best friend and I went to the Texas Monthly Bridal show this past weekend and A.J. happened to have a booth. Don't quote me but I believe his sign included something like, we specialize in vintage jewelry. We stopped, chatted about my ring and his collection, and were just about to walk away when my best friend asked him how much he charged for sizing. He asked me if he could see my ring again. He used his loupe and said that yes, it did have a crack in the band but with that and sizing he'd charge me $85. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! So I asked him to take a look at the diamonds to see if they were ok, they were fine. He said that with the prongs, that's something he always checks after any sizing. "That's just part of the sizing". I was SO excited! I called him Tuesday, took my ring in at 5:30 after work and just picked it up (Friday about the same time). It looks amazing!
