I've been going to the same bagel place in Mt. Lakes for 15+ years. Decided to try Abe's bagel house right on 46 in Rockaway and it was the best! Cute little environment, some nice eating tables and the real prize is the bagels. Delicious and tasty with a chewy interior and crisp outer. The everything bagel was probably the best I've ever had. Abe opened up about three years ago and it's great to support a family owned business. They are very welcoming and have great coffee as well. This is not a bagel, this is basically a roll. Very unsatisfied, the flavor is fine but the structure is squishy/chewy and not in a good way. They also initially gave my order to someone else and had to remake it. Abe the owner offered to fix it by giving me a free sandwich next Sunday, but I won't be returning. Manhattan Bagel in Wharton is WAAAAAY better by comparison. Sorry to Abe, I wanted this to be a great place but it's just not up to par as a native NJ resident that's lived in many places the state. read more

Came back almost a year later and wow, totally different experience. They had more of a groove going on in there this time around. Still a great cup of cold brew, but this time they automatically gave me a cup of ice (last time I needed to ask for it). After seeing TeamTaylorNJ's 9.1 review of Abe's Bagel House in Rockaway I had to give it a shot. I did try their taylor ham, egg, and cheese sandwich, only I had it on a everything bagel (untoasted). The large bagel, which was delicious, soft and chewy in the center with a nice crunchy crust, was excellent. Don't let the picture fool you, it was packed with 4 slices of taylor ham, two eggs, and cheese, but the generous size of the bagel may have overshadowed the fillings in the photo, but believe me, it was quite a satisfying meal. Thanks to a Yelp friend's review, I found out about Abe's Bagel House this weekend. Today, I had a chance to stop in for lunch. This bagel store is a great addition to Rockaway! It's located right on Rt 46 in a strip mall with a big parking lot. The owner was super friendly. The place was nice and clean inside with plenty of seating. Everything is made fresh and there's a large selection of bagels and cream cheese. I went with a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on an Everything bagel. The sandwich was excellent with the eggs cooked just right. The sandwich with a nice cup of coffee was just what I was looking for! If you're in the area, give this new local business a try! Randomly chose the nearest bagel shop while traveling. Wow! I am picky about my bagels and these are exceptional. Great flavor, light and fluffy on the inside, perfect texture on the outside. Huge, round delightful discs. Not dense and hard to chew. Met Abe. He said he's perfected his bagel recipe, and I agree. He and his staff are working very hard. 1 year in business after cleaning up a space that sat empty for 10 years. He said he's saving up for a $4000 slicer. It's a small shop with only a few tables in an older strip of retail stores. There are at least 8 homemade flavors of cream cheese and other specialties. I like these so much, they are worth going out of your way to try them. I intend to talk Abe into shipping them to me. So special. read more

My husband and I found this place by accident and it is awesome!!!! We stopped in on our way to the airport and grabbed a dozen bagels to bring to Florida and a couple sandwiches for lunch. Abe's bagels are always good and never disappoint! We moved into the area less than a week ago and have already been back 4 times. It's one of the only things that I've been able to eat with my first trimester food aversions, so I owe Abe big time! My go to is an everything bagel with cream cheese not toasted and it's great each time! My husband gets the toasted everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and bacon and says it's one of the best bagels he's ever had. Luckily for us Abe's is more than just adequate -- home to some of the best bagels we've had in quite some time! Over the past week we've ordered from here 4 or 5 times, it's that good. We were super impressed with the bagel quality and Abe definitely doesn't skimp on the cream cheese. The service is also amazing -- Abe is super friendly and always working the front and chatting people up. Stuff like that goes a long way, plus he's a Jets fan so he gets extra points in my book. A gentleman told me I need to select 15 bagels when I started to pick the bagels a lady came to him the dozen bagels is for 12 and not 15. Abe's bagels are huge! They have whole wheat everything bagels, which are my jam. Their Taylor ham, egg, cheese sandwiches are delicious and perfectly cooked. One of the more unique features is their cream cheese selection. On top of your normal flavors, Abe has 2 different spicy cream cheeses: one jalapeño and one spicy veggie with lots of pepper flakes. I am a huge fan! My kids enjoyed the strawberry cream cheese and the maple walnut. Go see Abe and team! You won't be disappointed! Stopped by Abe's Bagel House on this rainy Saturday afternoon to order 6 dozen bagels for a work event later this week, and figured I would pick up a little lunch-to-go for the family. I ordered an Italian sub, a chicken cheesesteak, and a beef cheesesteak, which were all good and not overpriced for what we got...BUT the Flying Chicken Panini and Tuscan Chicken Panini stole the show! They were loaded with flavor and the chicken breast was not only juicy but it was big enough to fill the entire roll. The paninis are a definite 5!!
