Horrible horrible horrible ... I usually never complain nor a picky eater but we ordered 60$ worth of food and the Greek salads are disgusting . The chicken isn't cooked all the way . The salad is so dry, barely any dressing and the pita bread isn't real pita bread! I also got a "chicken lemon soup" which looks old and there's no chicken in it . I came here after hearing great things about the food. I walked in and I was ignored and then eventually the man behind the counter asked if I was picking up. I said no I didn't order ahead and he was very rude and said I can order if I want to wait 30 minutes because he's too busy right now. He also was making French fries and did not use gloves to pick up the fries and put them in the fryer which I noticed while I was waiting to get his attention. Terrible experience. read more

I called placed an order at 7:44 my husband who worked all night goes to pick it up on his way home they tell him no one placed an order . Lies I spoke to the guy in wantagh and placed my order with him they were just rushing to get out . Had a falafel for $5.98 including tax. It was enormous, like 2 sandwiches in 1. Light on falafel balls, heavy on salad, yogurt sauce and hummus. Delicious. I am so disappointed with my experience. I wanted to give them business during this virus, but I regret ordering from here. I don't even think the worker wore a mask when making my food. They gave me cold soup, cold pita, and I had to pay for a side of sauce that he said was included. The salad had dressing on it and about 5 pieces of chicken when i had to pay extra for the chicken. I am currently eating from here for the second time with my co-worker. Both had Gyro Platter delivered. Delivery was prompt and accurate. Liked it better the first time, but this is acceptable. Gyro meat was tasty and well done as we ordered it. The portion was a little skimpy (wasnt the last time). Pita was good, not close to the best I have had. I like their Greek salad the red sauce they put on side is good. I question extra expense for the platter, however because the regular GYRO basically comes with a greek salad so what am I really getting, a slightly bigger salad for 50% more money? I also do not like the warm gyro meat on top of the salad which make everything luke warm. Overall not a bad place, not great, but I would try again. read more

Abe's is a great place for a gyro. I've been getting food from there for something like 15 years. Growing up in Bellmore this place has way more flavor than most places that have Gyro. They even have their own twist with a slightly spicy, sweet red sauce on the gyro that actually really good but you can ask them to leave it off. Now I live in Long Beach and lucky for me that's where their other location of Abe's is and it's pretty much just the same so yay! ... but some reason I think I like the Wantagh location more. Small place with big taste. Yeah, I know it's checkers slogan but it's an accurate description of this spot. I can overlook the sparse and somewhat shoddy decor, which other yelpers also complain about, since this place puts out some really excellent gyros. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Prices are low. Good spot for quick lunch. One recommendation to the owners would be to spend a few dollars on the decor and a real menu sign, cause the one hanging up now looks really cheap. Paint, tile a few new tables and chairs, and real menus would elevate this place. read more

The highest praise I can give is that the food was edible. The chicken was pretty much tasteless and the souvlaki had either ketchup or some really weak barbecue sauce on it. I've eaten at a few Greek places and never had anyone serve souvlaki with ketchup. My wife had souvlaki also and also had ketchup on it. Pretty nasty. The pita it was wrapped in was pretty good. I love this place! This to me is comfort food. Sometimes the little hole in the wall places make the best best food. They probably have the best falafel on long island, their gyros are great, and they have good baklava. My only complaint is they microwave the cous cous...so I avoid that. read more

Also, in addition to only getting delivery, only get the GYRO sandwich, which is huge for the money and pretty freakin good. Grew up on the south shore, but moved out of state years back. So whenever I visited, I'd stop for the food..... It was always great. Last time I went in April, things had changed. My order got screwed up 3 times, and required that I repeat it 3 times (never needed to before), I was happy to get it in the end. Nope. None of the new selections had flavor. The tabouli salad had no parsley or lemon juice. The stuffed grape leaves were overcooked and bland, and the 2 falafel wraps were as unsavory as boiled white rice. I don't know if the restaurant changed hands, but the flavors and care have gone south. I tried to contact the owners first via the website to keep this off public review, but there was no email on the page.... just the menu. I hope it's temporary. I plan on visiting family close by a few times in the next few years. read more

My husband and I have been coming to both locations for years. The food has always been consistently good. It's definitely more of a takeout place, there are tables/chairs but its not fancy by any means. Their Israeli salad is great, as is both their gyro/souvlaki. The desserts are pretty good too! This is probably is worst of experience I have had at any restaurant. I tried ordering on the phone and was met with a hostile man yelling at me for not understanding his broken English and was hung up on. The man working here felt like he was filling in and had no idea what his own menu had and couldn't even prepare the Greek food. You could walk down the street to a 7 eleven and they could prepare the food without zero knowledge. The man would not let me get anything without his salad, which was just lettuce with zero effort. His hummus was flour and water, the yogurt was sour cream. If you see the older man working you are in for a treat, the treat not being his food but the interactions. Ever heard the term is customer is always right, forget about it. Health safety, forget about it. Good service,forget about it. Only two things are guaranteed burnt falafels and the Greek nazi from hell. Even a 17 year old moody teenager at McDonald's would give better service than here. Would give zero stars read more
