Lo and behold our gate was right across from the Departure Lounge. The DP has a good sized bar, some high tops and a tables. We scored two tables adjacent to the concourse and as expected this location is great for people watching. Lite food offerings are also available. Our cocktails were surprisingly hefty and our better half's were raving about their Palomas. Even though they were very busy table service was excellent. Like every other airport venue prices are high but hey c'est la vie.

I fly through here a few times a year & have always had good experiences. Today I ordered an…read moreextra-dry martini (no vermouth) and got extra vermouth and clearly specified I wanted no vermouth. Server brought the new drink back and said she put just a little vermouth in this time. Tolerable, but frustrating. Decided to try the pulled bbq brisket grilled cheese. Sandwich is warmed in the oven, not toasted or grilled. Brisket was chopped with sauce on the side. When I questioned it, I was told that's how it comes, so I asked for silverware and a napkin so I could at least eat the filling, was again told "that's how it comes" and the waitress walked away. Then had to ask to cash out 3 times & the bartender still wouldn't run my card and made the server do it. Very disappointing experience and service.

Just checked in! I must say that I had a very outstanding experience at AUS airport. Parking lot is…read moreeasily visible and as soon I parked, there was a shuttle bus waiting. Once in, the driver explained the process when coming back and to write down parking location and what gates he was stopping. Ending up giving him a good tip. Once I arrived at the airport, waited until the airline employee was ready to check people in. Had the tickets already printed to it was breeze! Going to security was another positive experience. Line wasn't long (5am) and the Jet blue employee was friendly and helpful. I was at my gate in no time. My longest wait was actually waiting to board the plane at the gate!

1/5 Austin-Bergstrom…read moreInternational Airport should be embarrassed by the condition of this facility. The biggest issue isn't one dirty table or one uncomfortable terminal--it's the obvious lack of management, attention to detail, and basic quality control throughout the airport. The floors are dirty. Tables look like they rarely get cleaned or wiped down. AC vents visibly appear to have mold or significant buildup on them. Parts of the air-conditioning system don't seem to work properly, which apparently explains the portable AC units and swamp coolers scattered around trying--and failing--to keep areas comfortable. Some of them seem to do little more than blow warm air around. But what really stands out is the complete lack of care. There seems to be very little pride or urgency from employees or management regarding the overall condition of the airport. These aren't small cosmetic issues. Cleanliness, functioning HVAC, facility maintenance, and basic customer comfort should be the bare minimum for a major airport serving a city like Austin. What makes it worse is the impression that leadership is well aware of these problems, yet the lack of quality control continues. At some point, responsibility has to fall on the people managing the facility. Austin deserves better. Travelers deserve better. Employees deserve a better-maintained workplace. Stop accepting mediocrity as normal. Do better, Austin.

Our sever, forgive me I forgot her name it started with a G and she had an accent, was the epitome of what all servers should strive to be. She was attentive, helpful, friendly, professional, all of the above JUST AMAZING! We dined before a concert and let her know we were in a slight rush and she made sure everything came out coursed but not rushed. Everything was absolutely DELICIOUS! The oysters and mignonette, steak sliders, truffle mac but omg that halibut stole the show! Mega hats off to the BOH staff, they killed it in every way. Also, if we were sharing and item the kitchen split and plated it for each us, HOW AMAZING! We couldn't decide between dessert since we were so full and short on time we picked the slightly quicker and smaller option; yet still our AMAZING server, G we'll call her, brought us a MINI bananas foster because she knew how much we wanted to try it but were scared of the portion size. I mean can you EVEN???? we felt SO taken care of by her and all other staff around us. everyone was moving with such grace and precision. I literally could not recommend this place enough!!! It's becoming our after work spot to grab a bite before going to a concert. I've still only gotten the Mini Filet Sandwiches which is center cut filet mignon on toasted brioche buns, Shaft's blue cheese, and onion Jam. I think I even got the same drink last time, the Spicy Margarita with El Jimador Tequila, Patrón Citrónge, fresh lime, jalapeño. It's so good! And the filet minon is $12 and the drink is $10. Even the free bread and butter is amazing sourdough with something added to the butter (maybe cinnamon, I'm not sure). We always just go casual and sit at the bar which is dark and moody but with friendly staff at the place that is typically a fancier dining experience. Go to their website and look at the whole menu for the Happy Hour which is 4p-6:30p every day of the week.

The hidden benefit is that I often have lots of extra time to stroll the concourse, get some steps in & blood flow going, and check out the interesting innovations, public art installations, and local flavor of the airports on my itinerary. Imagine my delight to find this little pocket of whimsy at the east end of the Barbara Jordan Terminal near Gate 14 (as if you're headed toward Delta and the Public Patio). The first indication of mystery is the infinity symbol on an overhead sign that would otherwise name a vendor or amenity. I simply had to stop & check it out. Procedure: Look at all the creative decor and signage. Smile. Step up to the kiosk, answer the questions, and generate your boarding pass (only virtual now, after originally being printable). Imagine yourself phasing through the physical barriers of reality into a different dimension of space & time! Verdict: Fun for all ages of folks with a good imagination, sense of humor, and decent reading habit in the sci-fi and fantasy genre. Cost: Zero dollars and just a few moments of time. Worth it!
