If I could give 10 stars, I would. When I started going to Brianna about 4 years ago, I was initially drawn towards her presence and ethos around clean products and healthy hair. Even though at the time I can't say I knew anything at all about what that would even mean for my hair. What I didn't realize at the time was how incredibly TRANSFOMATIVE Brianna and her touch would be for my hair. As someone who has been highlighting blonde for close to 2 decades, this was the first time my hair has felt....HEALTHY! I have shine and the length that I always dreamed about. She's an expert in all colors but I have to say her touch on blondes is unmatched. I flux between the seasons (darker to lighter) and she nails it every time. She does her care with craft and precision that I have not seen elsewhere. I would love to gatekeep her in case she gets too busy and I can't get in... :P ...but she deserves all the glowing reviews in the world. PART ONE Once, a long, long time ago, the matriarchy led a society. Fast forward thousands of years and now beauty is for sale, health is for the wealthy and medicine is by prescription. The women who run ABL are part of a culture of healers that I believe are long forgotten. They understand that healing is an immersion and that no matter the ailment, the treatment is always the same -- love and listening. But then again love is listening. So really, just love. I came in for a hair consultation. I left having received an exorcism. A little context: I have always had beautiful hair -- thick, long, curly. But then last year while living overseas, I became indoctrinated with another country's beauty standards, subtly at first and then acutely. And so, like any woman living alone and maybe feeling a little insecure, I tried to adapt. Life lesson #426 -- never get a haircut at night in a foreign country when you're feeling down. One bad cut led me to discover the world of hair extensions (don't do it) which led me to a relaxer (really, don't do that) which was much more permanent than any stylist would let on. And so, one year later my hair is nothing like it used to be. And I looked ten years older than I was. And for the first time ever I felt my hair was thin, breaking, and looked awful unless I spent hours styling a natural look. I came into Abl wanting a cut by a master stylist. (Please don't tell me about your nourishing oils and amazing hair treatments, omg I know allll about them. I do them at home. I eat organic. I meditate. This is beyond argon oil.) I needed someone help me figure out what cut would look good. I was ready to chop it all off, if I had to, and start over. But my wonderful stylist, Jeanine could hear me -- I was at my wits end. Short hair wasn't what I wanted but it felt like my only option. Even my speech was knotted. Through her skill, Jeanine could detangle desire from fear and design an experience for me BY ME. I didn't realize there was such a thing as a doula in hair care but here we are. I wish I could give you a step by step of what happened but like any transformation, I've already let go of who I was before I walked into their doors and the steps are insignificant. What I can say is that in the process of receiving a hair treatment, I made huge discoveries about myself and my locks which was made possible through the supportive, loving atmosphere Jeanine and Brianna have created. Finding a good hair dresser in this city is not hard. BUT, finding one that you will form a much bigger relationship with, one who knows your hair in and out and truly cares about it beyond just the looks, that's different. That's up there with finding a boyfriend or a therapist in this crazy city. So when I came into Brianna's sanctuary of a salon, I knew this place was different. After my initial visit, I was totally blown away. I felt like all the hairdressers I had seen before Brianna were like inexperienced ex-boyfriends. I kid you not. Brianna takes the time to get to know what you want. Educate you on your hair health. And then really focus on the task on hand. And it's a whole experience. Great energy, herbal tea, a head massage as she washes your hair which is out of this world. You will leave there not only loving your new do, but with so much good energy. Brianna cares A LOT about what she does. And when you are in that salon seat in front of her, you are the only person she is focused on. She's truly a needle in a haystack. read more

This was such a special place. They were able to accommodate me on very short notice. I have long hair and just wanted a trim, and Jasmine was able to keep my length while getting rid of the dead ends. She understood perfectly how to cut long hair! The owner is a peach and makes beautiful oil treatments. The space is cozy, eclectic and full of good energy. I felt immediately at ease when I entered. Highly recommend! read more

I just had incredible mind blowing head massage and hair oil treatment, I cut my split ends twice a year only, and I prefer not to style my hair with iron or hair dryer very often. So this treatment is perfect to me. I traveled into the atmosphere of my internal mind for an hour and as a result I've got beautiful light waves on head. read more

I'm so thankful to have encountered Brianna Davis and her GEM of a hair salon that exudes serenity and warmth. Brianna is a brilliant alchemist with color and her pièce de résistance is the hair rinse (you MUST book an appointment just to experience this!!!!) allowing for the most unwinding sensation possible. I had one appointment for color and was in heaven. My second appointment was for a touch-up, and I also felt it was time to lighten my crown chakra with a classic pixie cut for the summer and I am over the moon. Oh, upon arriving I have been greeted by James, who has vibrantly welcomed me with the brightest smile and twinkling blue eyes followed by soothing tea. Brianna and her amazing vision is more than a hair salon! This is a full hair treatment service. A hair spa! But you don't have to do the full treatment... you can have your hair dyed, cut or blown out... i go routinely for my maintenance. But even then, your treated with the best details, lovely smells, and the best hair washing massage ever!!! No neck strain her!!! My biggest pet peeve! You lay down for this! And Brianna is the sweetest, low maintenance, no drama haircare professional i have EVER met. Listen, I'm serious! I travel all the way from Crown Heights to Williamsburg. Not an easy commute.
