Mark's Auto got us in within minutes after I called. They immediately took it for a test drive, and diagnosed the problem shortly thereafter. Turns out a rear end seal was leaking, causing the truck rear end to slightly lower itself, allowing the heat shield to clang and bang on the drive shaft. They resolved the issue and discovered that the front end 4 wheel drive was not properly activating itself due to a faulty vacuum issue, and they resolved that as well. I was out by 10:00 am and on our way. I want to thank Dan for taking his time to explain the issues so I had full understanding of what was malfunctioning. Can't ask for more than that! As an FYI, this dealership is one of ONLY TWO in the entire state of South Dakota (the other being on the other side of the state in Sioux Falls). I wanted to check out the dealer's inventory of new 2026 Outbacks since the car was completely redesigned for the 2026 model year. While this is a relatively small Subaru dealership compared to others I've been to near where I live on the East Coast, they had a pretty impressive inventory of new 2026 Outbacks in a variety of trim levels. They also had a nice inventory of other Subaru models, too. While I was not buying at the moment, I spoke with a young salesman who did not apply the usual pressure tactics; he informed me that in So. Dakota, documentation fees are minimal because the buyer is responsible for paying the sales taxes, registration and title fees themselves and that those requirements are fulfilled in the buyer's county treasurer's offices. Thus, the potential for additional dealer profiteering rip-offs that can be seen in states like NEW JERSEY and FLORIDA where the documentation fees are UNREGULATED by the STATE do not occur in So. Dakota. This was refreshing to hear and I decided that when I buy my next Subaru after my move to South Dakota in 2027, that I will seriously consider returning to COURTESY SUBARU in Rapid City.

First, the cost: The insurance company estimate was crazy low, and I expected to somehow get hit with a bill for overages alongside my super high deductible. Jody and the team revised the estimate to make sure every single thing was it in line and processed it though Geico with absolutely no push back. They even saved me money. Timing: a majority of my work was PDR and glass so while they had a ton of work going on from the several hail storms this summer, they fit me in within the next week. AND they met me to pick up the car, AND they stayed at the shop until 10 pm on a Saturday to wait for me when I came back late from the airport. I've used around 5 bodyshops in the past (welcome to hail season in South Dakota). I know that these guys will be the only shop I use from now on!
