Purchased a 2024 4runner in December from DM-T! Mike Grant was my salesman and he was awesome! Straight to the point, no BS but very kind. I had a bad experience with the sales department: They had no cars that I was interested on the lot and everything that was interested in was in transit. The excuse I was given by the salesman was due to covid as well as since this dealership is in a remote location they are allocated so many cars / models. Quite frankly, their excuses were BS. Covid ended several years ago and all the other car manufacturers have comparable competing models physically on the lot (not in transit) ready to be test driven and bought. I had to put a deposit on car in transit. Most cars in transit already had a deposit and were already in the process of being sold. I was able to find a model that didn't have all the features I wanted unfortunately. I was told it would take months or even up to a year to order a car with all the features I wanted. So, I had to settle for something less and put a refundable $500 down payment for a car in transit so I can have first priority as well as to test drive. The salesman said that it would arrive in a week, however it eventually became close to a month. The salesman told me one week the car would arrive but then he didn't call me. I called then he said two weeks, then it became three then four, and then last week spoke he said sometime mid-next month. I canceled my pre-sale after waiting almost an entire month. I was very frustrated since I never had this problem at a car dealership before. The salesman was also a bad communicator. In person, the salesman seemed to be good but any communication with voicemail, email or texts he was just unresponsive. I had additional questions that I never got any responses. Even when I canceled my pre-sale, there was no apology by him. On a separate issue, the salesman saw a barely noticeable little ding on my car I was planning to trade-in and said that my car would depreciate over $1,000 ($3K if I recall) which was in my opinion BS since there's paintless dent removal tools that use suction technology to remove dents. The fact that this salesman was trying to undervalue my trade in car gave me concerns already. Other Toyota dealers have cars I was interested on the lot. I went to a competitor (KIA) and their parent company (Billions) owns a Toyota dealership in another city within the state and they told me that they could transfer the model I wanted over here so I can buy the car I was looking for. However, I decided not to. From now on, I will probably buy cars from another state or a bigger city with multiple Toyota dealerships not owned by the same / this company. I am from another state where car dealerships are plentiful and you can always go to another Toyota dealership in the next door city to get better deals and service. To be fair, while I didn't have a great experience with the salesman, I did have a good experience with the parts and service departments at this Toyota dealership. Other than that, they lost me as a customer due to the aforementioned bad experiences and I bought a car from another car dealership and I couldn't be happier. If I ever buy a Toyota again, I will go out of state and not here. read more

Had you asked me 3 months ago I would have given them a 5 star review, however, given how much they might have missed during the inspection of the truck I now own, I cannot say that I recommend them. I worked with Nick Carter from the beginning (when he was in the mechanics department) and he was very friendly, gave me lots of time, and answered all of my many detailed questions.I flew from out of state to buy a truck in Rapid City and had the owner bring it to them for an inspection. Did they catch some things that were big and needed to be dealt with, yes! Did they catch everything that they should have, no. Long story short I got the truck home and 4,000 miles later it is making loud creaking noises. I have a quote from my home mechanic who I respect, trust, and does everything they can to only put on parts they consider essential (TRUE Automotive in Glenwood Springs, CO who has a 4.9 rating on Google reviews) to do $4,000+ of work on the front suspension. Just to be clear, Nick did not ever guarantee they'd help me with any big problems, however, he did suggest if there was anything big that happened that they may have missed to give them a call back and they might be able to help. I called Nick (who now works in sales) and he basically explained how there is no chance they missed anything that should have been done, their philosophy is not to take care of everything that needs to be taken care of unless it is going to catastrophically fail, and that he wouldn't do any of the work until failure. As someone who drives a lot to remote areas for work, I do not want to get towed from the middle of nowhere with no service. Worst of all is that the most important thing of concern are the lower ball joints which are notorious for failing leaving a wheel disconnected from the car- not something I want to experience. According to my mechanic here, there is no way the lower ball joints deteriorated to this point in the last 4,000 miles I've owned it and meanwhile Nick said they wouldn't have recommended replacing them until they were failing anyways. read more

I would like to write a review specifically for Kris in the sales department. I dropped my car off for service earlier today and didn't realize I had forgotten my meds in the car. By the time I noticed, the dealership was closed, but I had no spare meds at home. I drove to the dealership in a desperate hope that my car wouldn't be in the garage and I could get to it from the parking lot. Kris happened to be there getting ready to leave for the day but when I stopped and told him about my situation he didn't hesitate to help. He went out of his way at the end of his workday to quickly help me find that my car was in the garage and retrieve my meds for me. In the middle of a cross-country trip, our driver side wiper stopped working. We called this dealer late Friday afternoon and told them our problem. Brought 4Runner in for repair asked for a tail light to be replaced. They said sure we will do a all points check. Neither were done. Brought in the next month for installation of engine heater found out there isn't a part for that and they don't do tank heaters because it can break and destroy the engine. They must not trust their mechanics. We had also asked for an estimate to replace tires. Did not get that done either. I miss the old Black Hills Toyota garage because they used to be really good and real attentive. read more

En route to the Black Hills, having driven 250 miles with another 250 miles to go, suddenly the fuel lid spring on my 2012 Avalon breaks. Happily a full tank of gas will get me to Rapid City but ... where can I get the part and could I insert it properly? Broken Bow's Ford Dealer finds me a Toyota Dealer in Rapid City. I call the Service Dept. in Rapid City (my destination that night). Terri orders the part stating it will arrive by 10:00 am the very next morning. Next day, I leave the conference early and in 20 minutes and for a total of $6.85 problem solved. I appreciate that the part was ordered without prepayment and how quickly my small problem was solved. Three guys helped and one gentleman even gave me a card for a free car wash! Pulled into the express lane to get a quick oil change as we were about 200 miles over. We are from Denver and it needed to be done before we started to drive back home. Lady at the counter said first available date to do an oil change was Monday. Today is Wednesday. Told her we were from Denver. Didn't matter. No cancelations, not able to do it until Monday. Why have an express lane? All dealers have a quick Service oil change area where no appointment is needed. Case in point, pulled out of the Toyota lot and across the street was the Ford dealer. They have a Quicklane Service. They were happy to change the oil on our 4Runner. It took about an 45 min to get the vehicle done. Absolutely terrible Toyota dealer experience. This review is for CJ in service. I was passing through on a cross country road trip and was worried about my tires as my car said the pressure was low. I decided to swing by and asked CJ if he could look at them. Even though I didn't have an appointment, he took the time to go over my tires to see if it had any nails and to fill up my tires that were low with nitrogen. He told me this place was one of the only few in the area that had nitrogen so I was in luck. I was in and out within 10 minutes and he answered my questions I had about tires in general. We are on a cross country road trip from North Carolina with our kids, and on the way down the mountain from Mt Rushmore, we heard grinding we hadn't heard all trip! So when we got to the hotel, we looked up the closest Toyota dealership in Rapid City and found this place. We were relieved to see it was 9 minutes away and the service department was open on Saturdays, and at 8am! So my husband got there when the doors opened and asked if y'all could check out his rig. Despite having a book full of appointments, you fit him in and noticed his back right brake looked pretty bad. You had one of the two parts needed, but said a shipment was coming in any minute. And also said, at best, if that happened, he'd be out of there at 11:30. Well, not only did the shipment come in, but y'all worked quickly and efficiently to get him out by 11:30! And he was able to rejoin us and enjoy Rapid City before we had to hit the road again! Can't thank y'all enough for the incredible service! read more

Find an honest local mechanic. I stopped here knowing that I had a problem with the oxygen sensor of my catalytic converter from a mechanic's diagnosis. I asked if they had the parts and to check on the computer inventory. Instead they said they had to look at the car, they stated I need a huge repair and that they did not have the parts. For this they charged me 84.39. Buy a Honda or Nissan or Ford to stay away from these guys. Update- On the way back home, the check engine light went off. I took the vehicle to my local Toyota dealer for some routine servicing and they did the computer analysis for free and found no issues. I believe the check engine light came on as a result of running several days at very high speeds. My Toyota service manager looked at me like I was a sucker when I told him Black Hills charge me $84 for an engine diagnosis. read more

Took my Toyota 2019 Forerunner in because I recently was driving thru the mountains of South Dakota on the way to Rapid City..when my car accelerated to 90+ miles per hour in the middle of a curve in the Black Hills. It was all that I could do to get it stopped by pounding on the brakes for what seemed like at least five minutes until it stopped....I drove to your dealership only to be told after they looked at my car and said they could find nothing wrong..I explained to them what happened again and of course was crying as I was scared to drive the car..the lady (excuse me-woman) who worked there was really rude to me..no one seemed to care that my life and others were at stake..I have checked on line since and this problem is well known by Toyota..In one case, a mother and her children were killed in this same model car in the past and there were numerous other testimonies to this effect.. read more

Very frustrated with this dealership. Husband goes in to get tires and brakes done, total came out to 996. Why? Because they decided to do an oil change when my husband didn't ask for it. What if my husband didn't have that money? What then? Oh, and on their website they had a special going for the services, if you spent 100 dollars you say 10, so on and so forth. Apparently they forgot to mention it. They just try to do anything to make money. What ever happened to if you buy three tires you get the fourth one free? Apparently they don't do it. It's the last time we will be going there. It's not worth it, when another place can do what you ask them and do it for half the price. read more

WEASELS Many years ago I got duped into buying a worn out Tacoma because I was desperate and they were hard to find. We haggled a bit and I bought it for too much. Found out later it had extensive body work (like sawed in half and put back together) hidden by a new paint job. Even worse, the tires wobbled a bit and the salesman said it was snow in the rims. Turns out it had (1) wrong size rims (1" too big); (2) a different brand tire on each rim and (3) my local mechanic could not re-balance the tires, said they were somehow damaged. (Since then fixed up the truck and it has done well for another 60,000 miles) Wait, there is more. Decided to get a 4-runner. Sales guy was real nice UNTIL it was time to buy. We haggled, they offered NADA book price (which is high). When I offered a reasonable amount based on Edumunds, he had the gall to say "we can just sell it to a broker for that much." So, he'd rather sell it to a broker than to me FOR THE SAME PRICE. Finally, had a heater issue. The mechanic found something totally unrelated, put in a new one, called it good. No fix. Epilog. their used vehicles are chronically overpriced compared to anywhere in the region. Never again read more

I took my car in for a regular maintenance check up and was told that I needed a repair that would cost $1500. Although my car is not a Toyota, it's in the same family of cars. When I checked with a local mechanic they told me that it should still be covered in my warranty. I checked with the dealership that I purchased my car from and the repair would be covered under my warranty. Denny Menholt Toyota should have told me that it would be covered, however, they did not. This unethical business practice is why I'll never bring my car back to them. read more

Be careful when purchasing a car from these guys. They will try every trick in the book to take you to the cleaners. Holy cow!! Usually dealers will try different tactics, but I have never seen a dealership try them all at one time. On their first offer they gave me an ok price on my trade, but told me that I had to pay MSRP on their vehicle and wasnt eligible for their rebates because they were giving me such a "great" price on my trade, and they said it was required by toyota to have their protection plan added to all vehicles because they couldnt sell one without it. So they were "required" to add another $1900 on to the vehicle. And when the calculated the monthly APR they added 1.5% on that they didnt think I would notice. So on their first offer their they were over $240 more a month then they should have been. So on their second offer, they said well I guess we can give you the rebate, but we will have to give you $2000 less for your trade, rebate was $2500. And when I looked over the numbers, they took $1900 off for protection (required my ass). But still had the added 1.5% added to financing. And they said "look, doing it this way saves you $75 a month." No a-hole it doesn't, I'm not stupid and passed high school math, i can tell when you are trying to make a lot of extra cash off of me. If you have purchased a vehicle from them, I feel sorry for you, there is a good chance that they took you to the cleaners. Ever since Denny Menholt purchased toyota of the black hills, they have been awful! I purchased a car from them when they were toyota of the black hills and the experience was a lot different and a little more pleasant. Now its just a bunch of con men trying to steal your wallet. read more
