Abrams Eye Institute is an outstanding eye dr. I was sent here by CareNow regarding problems with my eyes that I have never experienced ever in my life. The eye dr seemed to just barely look at my eyes and told me exactly what my problem was. He knew right away. I was provided some ointment for my eyes and I was all better within a few days. The unfortunate thing about Abrams is that they are expensive, but they have taken very good care of me. read more

Went to Abrams Eye Institute and saw Dr. Shah and definitely give him and the clinic 5 stars. I called this morning needing an emergency appointment due to an infection near my eye. They were able to get me in right away. When I got to the location it was clean, quiet and the staff was quick to get me checked in. Dr.Shah took a look at my eye and I felt his approach was really cognizant of the health and longevity of the eye. He kindly answered all my questions and was even able to explain a mysterious occurrence I would randomly get in my eye, that no other doctor has been able to answer. Great Dr., great staff. I was told by dr. Abrams I have to do PRK as I'm not a LASIK candidate. I went to dr. Siems for a second opinion and....he said that in fact I am a great candidate for it. So I did the surgery on 3/24 and I'm doing wonderful. Took around 70 seconds for both eyes, and I was driving the next day. Turns out, Abrams only has a laser with a blade and not the actual bladeless equipment, so he lied to me and told me I had to do something when in fact I didn't. Just to make a sale. So I forgot to post this review from a while back but recently Abrams eye institute called me to see if I wanted to schedule a nban eye exam and I said no thank you and here is why. (I was supposed to post this in 2021 whenbit happened) So I called Dr. Abrams office at the end of April to schedule an eye exam and I was given an appointment date for 05/13/21. Now when I set up the appointment I asked the woman on the phone what was the cash price for the eye exam and she said about $200 for the vision exam plus an extra $50 if i wanted a refraction test which is not included in their eye exam. She also told that the price could be more if other tests are required and she asked me if I had MEDICAL insurance to which I replied yes I do. She also informed me that they do not take VISION insurance there and I again told her that i would be paying cash for the visit. So May 13th I go there for my eye exam, I hand the lady my insurance card and I go to the back to start my exam. They performed the eye chart test, a retinal exam, and then Dr. Abrams checked my eyes and the exam was over. Now as I am ending my appointment remembered that I said that I was going to pay cash for my visit so I asked the young lady for my insurance card back and said that I was paying in cash. She then asks me if I am sure that I want to do that and informs me that this visit could be applied to my deductible to which I say thanks qanyway I'll just pay it in cash. She then informs that my eye exams CASH price is $515.00. I asked the young lady what happened to the $200 exam rate see quoted me over the phone to which she replied something like thats if you don't have insurance and then said that i had other tests done anyway but the only test listed on the invoice was for the retinal scan which was not $315.00. I asked the young lady for an itemized reciept so I could see where the charges were and she produces one but it was very vague about the services. So I paid the $515.00 and I went on my way. Now being that I only had a routine eye exam and a retinal scan and I paid $515.00 I wonder what the charge to my medical insurance was going to be. read more

I am baffled by the good reviews because there is no way this Dr is a quality healthcare provider. He spent less than 8 minutes with me and misdiagnosed my eyes. The tech was awful and could not even do a proper eye test or eye scan reading. I went two weeks later to Dr.Stephen Hansen who I have stayed with for over a year.Much higher quality care I am now prescribed driving and reading glasses. read more

Incredibly disappointed with our visit today. I will not refer anyone to this facility. My daughter (3yrs old) was referred to this institute by her primary physician. Granted the primary physician is being held responsible as well via a separate review. This is a pediatric referral, but was told "I don't see patients who can't read" AFTER placing eye drops in her eyes to dilate. BOTH offices KNOW my daughters age due to having to CONFIRM her DOB a multitude of times at time of making the appointment. Very unprofessional and incredibly incompetent. I have never before visited a private clinic (eye care, dental or health) that would refuse to provide the cost for initial consultation for a very specific concern prior established by other providers. It will be a surprise charge at the end of the consultation they said. In addition, they would collect all your personal information and make you sign the agreement where they keep the right to bill you further what insurance doesn't cover, specifically the charges will be unknown until they decide which codes they will use at the time of your visit and treatment. That's absolutely ridiculous and shady way of running a business. That's not a patient care oriented, that's definitely just scamming the insurance and focused on keeping the billing as high as possible. I had eye treatments in the past that offered a free consultation and a specific plan of treatment and costs associated with it. At very least, there was a visit fee that would be specific and usually applied towards future treatments. I have never been told before that my consultation will maybe be up to over $500 (just because) and that didn't even include any treatment or solution. read more

Treats patients horribly ...he makes me of feel horrible ...At first he over scheduled me to come in three times a week for a Month but he'd be upset when I came in ; he's not empathetic , there is no bedside manner ..:he told me to see a specialist somewhere else ...he jumped to the worse prognosis imaginable at our first meeting and his mind was made up -the man is ready to remove eyeballs with out looking at an X-ray or discussing this with literally anyone else...he can't tolerate women or complicated medical issues and he takes this out on the patients ; who he blames and uses fear mongering and sadistic, psychological tricks to treat simple to complicated ophthalmological problems ... read more

I've noticed a lot of the reviews that are negative have nothing to do with his practice and results itself. This review is to talk about his results. I will talk about my recent Lasik surgery. I came here after reading the high ranking on Yelp. It's absolutely justified. I was about to get Lasik done from another provider here in the Valley, but a buddy of mine had a terrible experience and an infection with that provider. So I opted elsewhere and found Dr. Abrams. His practice is clean, and they still are maintaining the social distance rules with the Covid stuff. First thing I was surprised about - They were timely! They are overall very punctual on their start times. I had several appointments, and each one was punctual and informative. Surgeries are normally on Wednesdays for Dr. Abrams, and it did cost $4000 (2K per eye). That other provider I was about to go to was only $3000, but there were too many instances of infections I heard about. The surgery was fast, about 15 minutes total to get both eyes done. Dr. Abrams is very calm, reassuring and tells you exactly what's happening. His easy demeanor makes the surgery very calming. He also is very direct with his advice and makes sure you do not leave without all the details. The next day, I am seeing 20/20. Overall, the staff is great. The place is clean. Dr. Abrams is smart, calm and informative. I recommend him and his practice wholeheartedly. You get what you pay for, and he is the best. Don't go somewhere cheaper. It's not worth it. My husband's second eye appointment for a "pre-op" consultation was scheduled today for 10:15 a.m. We arrived at approximately 10:10 a.m. My husband filled out their iPad questionnaire and submitted it to the young woman at the desk. For the next 45 minutes we sat waiting for his appointment. At nearly 11:00 a.m., the same young woman who helped my husband previously, asked us what time our appointment was. I answered, "10:15 a.m., 45 minutes ago." I gave her my husband's name. A flurry of action then occurred as the same young woman and her two associates tried to determine what my husband was there for and/or what services my husband was to receive. Wasn't this woman suppose to make this determination when the completed questionnaire on the iPad was submitted to her at 10:15 a.m.? A few minutes later, my husband went to the same young woman and informed her he was leaving. She exclaimed that someone was "pulling the paperwork" to prepare for the "pre-op" consultation. The office staff at Abrams Eye Institute on this day was disorganized, rude, and unprofessional. They offered no apologies for their inattentive behavior. Why did we not contact the front desk sooner to inquire about our appointment? Frankly, we have found several medical offices in Las Vegas are not prompt in receiving their clients at the appointment times. We waited to see how long it would take the staff of this provider to acknowledge our appointment time. Abrams Eye Institute - we will not be back. read more

I wish I had seen the post below from another patient!! We specifically booked our appointments for a yearly exam because we needed new glasses, and as my husband is a diabetic thought it would be a good idea to see an MD. I was clear on this at the time of booking. We did not find out until we had completed testing they don't do glasses - really?!! However, they said but we can write you a prescription you can take with you......OK Since we were not there for a "surgery consult", Dr. Abrams was brief and seemed not to want to spend anytime with us. Frustrating since we know diabetes can be so harmful to your eyes. Since my husband needed new glasses quickly we asked for a copy of the exam and the RX for glasses for him. I passed just because I still had to go see an optometrist for contacts. BTW he ended having to see an optometrist as well..... Here's the kicker. We received a bill for $45.00 for the prescription!! Apparently we did not catch it in the paperwork they charge to hand you a prescription.!! Isn't that why we are there?? Just another note. We were both told we should have treatment for "dry eyes". Guess the costs? $500 per eye!! So we went and sought a second opinion. Needless to say, we saved $2000. Disappointing to see petty charges. Won't return. Won't recommend. read more

I went here at the recommendation of my primary doctor. The place is nice and the staff is nice. They were able to get me an appointment quickly, even same day. Dr Abrams wasn't available so I saw Dr Shah. Although he was able to resolve my eye issue, I was pretty pissed when I saw I was being charged over $150 for each visit and he was asking to see me every 2 days for follow ups. I'm not sure if that normal protocol for an infection but it seemed excessive once I was billed (after the fact). I also noticed when they emailed me my patient chart after every visit that there were extensive notes from the doctor stating he reviewed several things with me which he never did. I brought it to the staff's attention on my first visit but it continued to happen. On my last visit there, I noticed that the doctor averaged less than 3 minutes per patient. Not sure how a doctor can thoroughly talk to you, listen to you, examine your eye and address your questions and concerns in under 3 minutes?? And then bill you over $100 for the visit. Doesn't seem fair at all. I'm going to try Dr Abrams to see if anything is different and if not I'll be looking for a new doctor with less patients, that can spend more time with me when I go and be sure to answer all my questions and go over everything thoroughly with me. The amount of money charged should at least buy me 20 minutes with a doctor who talks to me. I think that the reason they have so many appointments available because they are cranking patients in and out. read more

I wanted to update my review now that I had had the successful laser cataract surgery on both eyes. I can't begin to say the difference it has made in my life. My heartfelt thanks and love go to The Abrams Eye Institute. Dr Abrams makes you feel not only so special, but so confident going into the surgery. Both of my surgeries were honestly "a breeze." We went out to breakfast after each one, and I was home reading magazines immediately with crystal clear vision. I recently went to the Abrams eye institute for a cataracts exam. The place looks very professional and the staff was very nice and helpful. Everything went well until I met with the office manager after my exam was over. I'm sorry, but I can't remember her name, but she was terrible! She was like the worst high pressure car salesman ever. She told me many things that contradicted everything that I'd heard or read about cataracts. Everyone has told me that my cataract surgery could be put off for months with no problems other than a gradual decrease in vision. She told me that I needed to get it done asap or my cataracts would turn hard (and I quote) "like concrete" and be very difficult to remove and very traumatic to me if I waited. She insisted that time was of the essence and that I needed to get the surgery asap!! She wanted me to schedule the surgery right then. She also told me that I was "legally blind"! I told her that I could see everything just fine. I could read books, use my computer, watch movies and read road signs from far away. She insisted that if I went for a new drivers license, I wouldn't qualify. My vision tested 20-25 in one eye and 20-30 in the other. Obviously, my vision wasn't perfect, but I was a long way from being blind! She also raised the price quote that Dr. Abrams himself, had just given me by $1,200! She said that he didn't know the prices and shouldn't quote them (even if he does own the place!). She also said that I'd be a fool to not get the laser surgery that they offered for a $5,600 out of pocket expense on top of what Medicare pays. My daughter is a medical student and she insisted that I get another opinion. She suggested that I see Dr. Pizio at New Eyes. I later found out that laser surgery is better for SOME patients with astigmatism, but that I was not one of them. Dr. Pizio did my surgery for what Medicare pays and at NO COST TO ME without the laser. She does offer laser surgery but insisted that it was NOT needed for all patients. Everything went perfectly and my surgery and recovery was a breeze! No problems at all! To sum up, Abrams Eye Institute may be a fine place to get your eyes fixed, but I'll never know since I was completely turned off by the high pressure sales tactics and false information given by their office manager! I had no problem with anyone else there. Dr. Abrams seemed fine to me but he really needs to replace that office manager IMHO. read more

Hubby had LASIK here and loved Dr. Abrams and his staff and suggested I go have it also. My prescription is not very high but I have a double astigmatism and they are different directions. I hate having to tote around glasses to be able to see to drive at night. If a don't wear the glasses the night lights cause severe starring and distance issues. I had a pleasant exam and consultation. The staff and the Dr. are super nice and they explained the procedures, choices and the cost very professionally. The location is new and spotless and testing tools are state of the art. I was not eligible for LASIK because my corneas are too thin but I'm eligible for PRK. No thanks :) eye stuff freaks me out and I really didn't want LASIK in the first place so I think I'll pass :) This office is very prompt and pleasant. Any time I called for us an appointment we were seen within a few days and one time she fit me in on the same day! A+++++ read more

I researched eye specialists on the internet, and I like what I saw with Abrams Eye Institute. After several preliminary appointments with a very knowledgeable, courteous and professional staff, Dr. Abrams was able to rid me of my advancing cataracts, and restore my sight to 20/20 for both eyes. An amazing laser process that is seemingly unnoticeable with only a mild anesthetic. Well worth the cost, and my only regret is that now I have to deal with the DMV to change my license. I'm usually a loyal person with my services. Where I used to get my former Eye Care, my longtime opthamologist retired and sold to another doctor. I had intended on staying because I'm usually loyal to all my services and I don't like jumping around. I always stay committed. Recently, my last appointment, ophthalmologist told me that they do not give prescriptions for glasses. I know this was a lie and they just wanted to discourage me to make me leave. The reason why they said that to me was because I refuse to take unnecessary tests and they were upset with me because I had told them that that issue was resolved, however, they were insistent about me taking the same test for problem that don't have. It was obvious they wanted to make more money off of me. So, I made a search and I found the Abrams Eye Institute. Doctor Jack Abrams was fantastic! The staff was efficient and extremely friendly! As a new patient, going to the paperwork was a breeze! Testing my eyes and even getting a prescription for my sunglasses was great! Most of all, they were looking to schedule me for additional tests. When I was examined by Dr. Abrams, he was positive and told me that I was doing great taking care of my eyes! I will continue to go to Abrams Eye Institute for all my eye care! One of the rare "good doctors" in Las Vegas!

Had my lasik done here. I've paid the extra money to get the custom lasik coz they say it's the better option. Although my vision is better, my halos and starbursts when I see car lights or street lights is still pronounced. I've went to every follow up and complained to Dr. Abrams time after time its not getting better. He keeps giving me different drops promising that my pupils will shrink/dilate or whatever is supposed to happen to minimize the halos. Nothing worked. I inquired about having an enhancement surgery done and he states I don't need it, despite me being uncomfortable night driving. If I ever do go for lasik again due to these halos, I don't think I'll go be back to this location. Now I have to pay for lasik all over again because it's too late to get the free enhancement with Dr Abrams, even though I've complained numerous times during my follow ups read more

Dr. Abrams is very kind and knowledgeable. I was not a candidate for traditional LASIK however Dr. Abrams was still able to improve my vision with another procedure called LRI. This procedure relaxed my astigmatism which improved my vision immensely. The procedure uses a laser to make thin slices around the cornea. Unfortunately as the eye heals itself the flaps created slowly close and the vision worsens again. I went back to the office for a few quick revisions which involved Dr. Abrams numbing my eyes and manually reopening the incisions. This would improve my vision again for a few more months. Eventually I just let them heal completely and while I did lose some of the new improved vision I can still see much better than before the procedure. I'm sure as technology improves I will be a better candidate for future improvements. Overall I am very pleased with the improvement of my sight and my experience as a patient of Dr. Abrams. read more

I had cataract surgery done by Dr. Abrams and as far as I'm concerned Abram's Eye Institute is the gold standard. From the clinic's efficiency and friendliness in scheduling pre and post operation procedures, as well as leaving the operating theatre with forgotten experience of the subtleties of color and shape, words fail me. Follow up scheduling was just as patient oriented, "call with any problems" was over the weekend what was said and although I didn't need to make that call I'm sure it would have been responded to. Went to the clinic in Pahrump, NV. Got all the tests done and when I went to check out they wanted an additional $52 for me to have the results. I'm sure they will charge my Medicare insurance and Tri Care insurance for all the tests done but they refused to give me the results unless I give them an additional $52. I'm sure they'll charge the insurance max price for all this. Seems to me a great scam to get additional money from me or other individuals. Next time I'll go to an eye doctor that charges the insurance for inspection and results and not an additional charge for the patient to get a prescription. Wonder what my insurance will do when they get the bill for this appointment and I question the results? Never again. read more

UPDATE 3/4/14 Well, my eyes have not been treated and, I feel they are about the same as when I walked in here upon the advice of my internal medicine doctor. I am glad that they were able to diagnose a new problem that I had not the faintest idea. That is another pro for this place. I do wish they could do more for me, but they say it is not possible. So, for now, take my review for what its worth. If I should go to Miami and find out the diagnosis was wrong here, then I certainly will put that in here. However, for now, that has not happened and you will need to make your own judgements. I did lose $107.00 plus time and transportation using their prescription for new lenses and finding out the prescription was wildly off. I had to go back and put my old lenses in my glasses in order to see at all. BELOW IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW. THE STAR RATING IS THE SAME. I'm still out on the rating of this place. I've had extensive testing and a referral to a specialist, but not any resolution after six months. They use an array of machines to check your eyes and guide you from station to station which is efficient. There always have been many patients there, but the exams go quickly. All the staff are friendly and helpful. What I did not like was the short times the doctor spent looking at the test results. Maybe I'm wrong, but five minutes when sight is being lost seems a short time. Anyway, I have another appointment coming up and will update this review. No matter what, however, I will go to a top hospital in eye care for a second opinion before anyone in Las Vegas takes a knife to my eyes. In fact, nobody will touch them here in a city that cannot even support a decent medical school. read more

Saw Dr Shah about problems I was having with an eyelid surgery gone bad. The eyelid surgery was performed by another doctor, not from Abrams Eye Institute. After performing my exam Dr Shah said that he didn't know that I had previous eyelid surgery. The first eyelid surgery was performed less than one year before Dr Shah examined me. After he said this I never came back. Not very reassuring if he couldn't tell I had the eyelid surgery less than 1 year earlier. read more

Originally I went to Abrams Eye Institute because my ophthalmologist Was out of town. Abrams got me in the next morning! Dr Shah treated me with such warmth and professionalism I was so thankful. I had to return a week later for a recheck. On the day of my return I had experienced a very stressful morning. When Dr Shah entered the room he stopped..looked at me and said 'what is happening with you....you are not the same person that you were last week.' That was only the second time he had ever seen me and he took the time to notice my humanity. That was like a cool breeze in today's medical world. Now he is my ophthalmologist ! The entire staff at Abrams is wonderful....the doctors...the aides...the front desk..... a top level operation with everyone sharing the same'can do' attitude.
