Easy Check in, nice staff and clean office. The Shepherd Eye Center is located at the same address as the Nevada Eye Center. They send you text messages before your appointment to explain the check-in process, which is easy peasy. The only thing I disliked is that they wouldn't take another optometrist's diagnosis of my uncle's cataracts. We essentially did all the tests over again after Dr Roter had performed them last month. My uncle had to spend another $90 just to be told the same thing. After seeing two employees, we finally got to see the doctor an hour later. The office is very warm so if you're like me take some ice. I would also suggest taking some ice water since our appointment ended an hour and 45 minutes later. By that point, I couldn't even make the next appointment because my back was hurting so bad. Oh well! By the time we left at 4:23 p.m., all of the people that were sitting in the waiting room had already left. The doctor was great though. He was very nice to my uncle. read more

it's no wonder their reviews are so bad. They have canceled my friend's eye surgery *twice* in the past several months "for circumstances beyond our control." Please verify everything yourself before going here. I left this office questioning both the accuracy of my eye exam and the way their billing practices are handled. I was diagnosed with dry eye and cataracts and told I needed glasses. I later got a second opinion, which found no dry eye and only slight lens discoloration--not what I understood from the first evaluation. That discrepancy was concerning enough on its own. Then came the insurance issue: I specifically asked whether they were in-network and was told yes. Afterward, I was told they meant Regence, not VSP, my actual vision insurance. That distinction should have been made BEFORE my appointment. The original bill was $315 and was eventually reduced to $118 after I disputed it. I paid it. This review is not about the money. It's about the experience and the lack of transparency. My advice: verify network status directly with your insurance, get copies of your exam results, and get a second opinion before accepting a significant diagnosis or buying glasses here. Went for possibly something in my eye. The first doctor visit said nothing was in my eye and ordered me glasses. The glasses were nearly $600. I went to pick them up and couldn't see a thing with them. It was the wrong RX. I saw another doctor who gave me the right Rx this time and re-examined my eye and flipped my eyelid and found the foreign bodies in my eye that had now been there for a month and a half now. What a relief! I went back to pick up the glasses and could see well with them, but they didn't get rid of the night halos as they were supposed to as were ordered. So now I have glasses that are only daytime glasses for this outrageous price. The second doctor I saw there was very good. While the Dr is fantastic they consistently run hours behind. My daughter had a 9:45 am appointment and we didn't get back to begin her two hour exam until 10:40am. They schedule too many patients to be seen at once leaving a waiting room full of people for hours. This happens at both of their locations. They take my child's insurance for their exams but not for actual glasses so we also have to go to another place to get her glasses. Just a total mess. read more

Here for my annual checkup, office staff is always very friendly. Big, clean office space and they always make sure to wipe things down in front of you with alcohol swabs, which I really appreciate! I have a hard time with things touching my eyeballs, so it's not my favorite yearly task to get my eyesight checked, but I know it's necessary and the staff is always sure to make me feel comfortable. Second smaller waiting area has a nice little place for kids to play with tablets, books and some toys if you have to bring your children with you. Check in is very easy with the scanning devices to scan your ID and insurance card. I always make sure to fill out the pre check in paperwork online before I arrive for my appointment, so it's never really a long wait. Longest part is waiting for the dilation and to see the doc, but that's to be expected. I definitely recommend getting the earliest possible appointment in the morning, as I've booked in the past in the afternoon and the office gets PACKED with people in the afternoons. Either way plan on being here for at least 1-2 hours for your appointment. read more

I went to this location for an eye exam. They were fairly prompt, but you start feeling like you're on a conveyor belt and you're just another product to push through so they can get on to the next person. I can't say they were rude, but I will say they were not friendly. Once you're called back, everyone seems rushed. The difference between this location and the Lake Mead location is night and day. Meeting with Dr. Peterson was the worst experience of my life. He was rude and condescending. Dr.Peterson started off the visit with a barrage of questions about my eye problem. I've been a patient here for several years. I always book my appointment first thing in the morning (like 7:00-7:30am). They have never once been on time. I ALWAYS wait 45+ minutes past my appointment time before I'm even called back. After my most recent visit when I was told 1 hour past my appointment time that I'd be seen whenever a technician had time to see me was the final straw. I did my exam, took my written prescription and left to find another place to get my glasses. Shepard Eye Doctor in this location is huge compared to older locations, this location has several eye doctors and have their Optic Shop to the side. Their Optical technicians were helpful and friendly. I was told that my insurance now makes the glasses, within a week my new prescription glasses were ready to be picked up. However, Im not very pleased with how my glasses turned out. The arms of my glasses were not assembled properly. I may just have an atrocious insurance that makes awful prescription glasses but this location did hold several cute specs. read more

Brought my son into this location to get his eyes checked for a second opinion. The staff was phenomenal with him and understanding because he is only five years old. They were very accommodating with him to make him feel comfortable during this experience. I do like that they have a little play area for the kids while they are waiting especially if they are getting their eyes dilated. The doctor took his time with my son to make sure that his eyes are doing well. After leaving this visit, I felt a lot better about my sons eyes and would definitely recommend this place to get great care for your eyes. read more

Made an appointment here at the end of March for my son. He was originally scheduled in the beginning of June then I get a call saying the doctor won't be available and the next available appointment is another 6 weeks later. We checked in at the Shepherds Eye Institute. We got here at 7:30am. The waiting room was full. Very dark inside, less than half of the lights are on? Saving money or is it because people eyes are dialated??!? The dialated eyes =) We are first time patients and worried about some of our Dr's bad reviews. Dr Rovit received poor reviews for his personal skills. Outside, the front desk is arguing with patients about wait time and who is next. Odessa at the front check-in was very nice and asked us if we wanted to go to the children's area, where there are cartoons, games and additional seating. Dr Rovit came in, introduced himself, shook our hands, and examined our son. He was very professional. He explained everything and asked us if we had any questions. Nice job Dr Rovit. I called back in January the 17th to get my daughter in for an appointment. The soonest to see a pediatric eye doctor was March 14th. Today is February 21st and I received a letter stating my daughter's appointment needs to be rescheduled so I needed to call. When I was speaking with the scheduler I asked why I needed to reschedule and I was told the doctors schedule changed which I can try to understand but then proceeded to tell me that the next appointment is May 9th? We've already waited over a month only to be told she would need to wait another 3 months. That's ridiculous!!! If this place will not value our time we do not need to be going to this place. I took my 85 year old mother for her 3:10 appointment. We arrived at 2:40 only to find that you had to check in at kiosk and scan your ID. It's a good thing I was there with her as it doesn't seem that the front desk people would help you out. As someone who works in Healthcare in quality and safety it seems they care about the money over actual patient care. My mother was not taken back until almost 4 PM. She was put in one waiting room where the tech had her read the eye chart. He then disappeared and my mom got disgusted and said she will call to have her eyes dilated. Dr Rovit came highly recommended by my eye surgeon. I was told that my appointment could take up to two hours and to be aware my eyes would be dilated. I arrived early for my 9:30 appointment. After signing in and waiting for a half hours, which was fine because I was early in case of paperwork, I was called in at precisely 9:30. From there things swiftly went downhill. I was shuffled from room to room for another hour and a half! My eye's hadn't even been dilated nor had I seen the doctor. I was asked to cover one eye, read this, read that, and then sent out to wait. This process happened twice. At the third go round I explained that it was now 11:10 and I was walking out the door at 11:30 as I had another appointment. The tech told me they could not guarantee I'd be out of the office. I told them I was leaving and I demanded my co-pay back because NOTHING had been accomplished. The that moment, I got a text, and telling me my next appointment was canceled. So I decided to stay, and see how much longer I'd be there. SUDDENLY THE DOCTOR WAS AVAILABLE! I was quickly ushered into an exam room and the doctor explained that I really didn't need my eyes dilated and I was fine. Seriously? Suddenly I'm seen when I lose my temper and am about to walk out after more than two and a half hours? AND you are now skipping steps in an scheduled exam? I'll be looking for a new doctor. There's no reason for this sort of thing. Unfortunately judging from the reviews, this appears to be the norm. Wouldn't recommend. I made my eye exam appointment a week in advance. This office generally does eye dilation for retinal exams but I made it clear several times that I prefer Optomap for retinal examinations. I do not care for eye dilation. Not once did they say anything about being unable to accommodate. I went in for my appointment and waited almost 40 min past my appointment time to be called back even though I was here 10 minutes early. They did an initial exam to gather some basic information about my vision and sent me back to the waiting room. I was, however, called back in less than 5 minutes but within minutes I found out they do not even have the Optomap machine at this location and that I would either have to get my eyes dilated or cancel and set up another appointment at one of their other locations to use the Optomap. They've already wasted so much of my time that I chose to cancel the exam entirely and I will not be returning. BEWARE DO NOT see Ryan Peterson OD at this location the worst bedside manner, rude and won't answer your questions and concerns. After receiving my eye prescription, I had asked if he can tell me if the prescription was stronger or weaker then what I had currently. His response was are you not happy with what you have currently? He proceeded to want to argue with me instead of trying to answer a simple question. He never answered my question left still not knowing if my eyes had got worse or not? He couldn't be bothered and didn't care about any of my questions. First off this review is not geared towards Shepherd Eye Center in general. This review does have some weigh in on the clinic because of some of the staff/doctor actions, but is more towards Dr. Adam J Rovit MD FACS. The office itself is clean and spacious...actually inviting and not crowded. It is located on 9100 west post road just off fort apache in the west side of Las Vegas just hidden snugged behind Southern Hills Hospital. However this is where everything does a complete 180 turn around. After the tech lead me to my examining room and did her assessment I waited for Dr. Rovit. It took about a good 10-15 minutes, which in some cases are pretty good, because of course there are other patients. I came in for a check up regarding a small bubble like cyst formation on my left eye. Fearing it was some type of infection, I wanted to have it checked out. Upon Dr. Rovit entering the room, I felt uneasy already. He walked passed my wife without acknowledging her and eyed me up and down as in a sense of "oh ok this is the kind of patient we have" he did not even shake our hands or introduce himself. I let that slide & brushed it off. He started to ask a few questions unrelated to my reason for coming in and presumed to make diagnosis based on previous complains regarding my eye lashes growing inward as a cause of a small cyst bubble like formation on my left eye. However my previous complain of lashes came from my right eye. He didn't even dilate my eyes to check for other disorders or possible differential diagnosis. Dr. Rovit then offers to numb my eye and pop the affected area. He did not even explain to me any consequences or options. I was the one who asked questions. He did look at my eyes with light, but then left the room a couple times without excusing himself. During his last time coming in he brought another tech in to type out "his findings" my wife is a registered nurse and nurse practitioner and I have family members in the medical field so when he started busting out with medical terms for his assistant to type out (which I feel he should have done) I sensed a flamboyant and arrogant nature coming from him. He should have explained it on a patients point of view and to add insult he was on his cell phone scrolling through pictures and emails. Hardly any eye contact considering he is an eye doctor. When all was said and done, he walked out of the examining room and by the door he said, "bye" not even turning around. He was completely rude and unprofessional. I am not saying he is not qualified, but it was a sad, scary situation with poor patient health care. There was no dignity and respect from Dr. Rovit. I wasn't sure if he was racist, or just having a bad day, but that doesn't excuse his attitude in the profession he is in. I decided to look up reviews on him on another leading medical & doctor review website similar to yelp and his ratings and reviews were poor as well. I definite will not come to this place again. I am not saying boycott shepherd eye center's clinic, but I definitely would warn everyone to ask for someone other than Dr. Adam Rovit for your eye care if you do go to this clinic. My wife and I left the place and decided to go to Nevada Eye Care center instead for a second opinion. It was a totally different experience. The receptionists to the techs and to the doctors all were very professional and gave the quality time and dignity to me and my wife as a patient and person. read more

Brand spanking new location served up just about all that I want in a Doctor's office experience: clean facility, paperwork available online to bring with me to appointment, punctuality and respect for my time, courteous and competent ancillary staff, and a personable, thorough and non-condescending Doctor (Raymond Theodosis) From the Front Desk duo who checked me in to the two techs who tested my eyes, dilated them and took my history, to the Dr, check out and glasses selection tech: everything was pleasant and easy breezy. The physical location is easy on/off the 215 and close to Baguette Cafe :-) Dr. Theodosis introduced himself, asked good questions and answered all of my queries. He was more than kind considering I only ever have my eyes checked when I lose or break glasses. Needed a driver because my eyes were dilated, and was so impressed, my Mom made appointments with him for Dad and herself before we bounced. This spot is less crowded than Summerlin office, though they just opened a few weeks ago. There is a very small selection of frames, but nobody gave me a hard time for not ordering today. I went to go get new glasses for a prescription that they gave me and ended up getting a second opinion and the doctor was wrong with my prescription The eye doctor said that my prescription changed 4x which is incorrect. He took care of my Cataract problem smoothly also without suggesting using much more expensive lenses.(insurance do not cover). A year later, my vision is 20/40 which is perfect in my opinion.
