He said the way to fix it was to knock a hole in the wall and replace the entire piping system to the tub. We refused and he left, saying that he would try to figure out what else he could do to fix it. My wife went to Lowe's and bought two new universal handles. We both installed the handles and they work great. Jim's Plumbing sent me a bill for $174 for nothing. It's pretty sad that a 78-year-old grandma could figure out how to fix it, and your plumber couldn't. Watch out for people who want to scam you into thinking you have to replace something for thousands of dollars, when it only cost you $13.

Tim took the time to personally come over, confirm Danny's suspicions, and collaborate on a plan to resolve the issue. Our home is older, and we discovered that our kitchen piping had been slowly eroding in the basement crawl space for years before finally bursting. This caused sewage water from our sink and dishwasher to seep into our concrete cinder block basement wall.
