My husband and I came here for the first time and it was an amazing experience. We ordered the spicy chicken hummus and it was hands down the best hummus I've ever had and I love hummus. Perfectly seasoned, creamy, and incredibly fresh. We also shared a platter that came with a whole chicken and lamb over a bed of rice. Both the chicken and lamb were cooked to perfection, extremely flavorful, and well seasoned. Nothing was dry or bland. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The service was fast and friendly, and the portion sizes were very generous. The entire platter with all of this food was only $60, which is an amazing value for the quality and amount of food you get. Freshness really stood out the most. My experience with this place was just subpar. Disappointing to say the least. The hummus and steak were probably my favorite and tasted good and the steak was cooked well. The chicken mendi lacked flavor. It was disappointing. Sure it was soft and tore off the bone easily but the rice and the chicken flavoring isn't up to the point. It gives a very middle eastern vibe but for the price you pay, you expect a little more upscale restaurant and this didn't hit that. The AC was set to 80 on a hot 92 weather but the room that did have AC had some sort of smell and the seating wasn't the best. This place could use a remodel. I loved the experience at Abu Naji. A friend had been suggesting we try it for weeks and we finally made it. It doesn't look like much esthetically but there are a couple really cool traditional seating areas. We were directed to booths initially and then asked to be moved to the floor seating areas, which are generally for large parties, but since it was a weekday and they weren't busy, we were seated for 3. Service was extremely quick and our server made recommendations. We ordered the fancy romance for 3 and what a presentation! We ordered the option for both lamb and chicken. I will be honest and say the lamb was a bit dry but the chicken was great! And the rice was truly the best rice I've ever eaten in my life the 3 of us were fighting over the leftovers. Once we were seated, it felt as though the staff had forgotten about us. The food was also below expectations. My mother's meal was excessively salty, and there were no suitable alternatives, so she ended up eating only bread. The lamb was extremely dry, not very well seasoned, and not enough for one person. The salad was mostly lettuce with very little else. The air conditioning was also not working, which made the dining room hot and uncomfortable. We have order in for the food for big office gathering. We were excited because the food representation is big. We have a mix Mandi rice plate that is very impressive. The rice is perfect cook. The only thing that they can improve on is the grill chicken. A few place is burn. Other than that, they have good lamb meat and rib. I also like the side dishes. It accompany well with the rice. The floor seating was surprisingly comfortable and overall a really fun experience. This business is ran by a father son duo both of who are so pleasant to interact with. The owner is constantly smiling and we recently found out he wakes up and gets started at 5 am to start preparing the meats of the day! Such a hardworking man who is committed to his food. His son is super kind and always made sure we had what we needed. My family can be a lot to deal with but these two never made us feel like we were tok much and are a huge part of why my family keeps returning here. The food here is on another level. Out of all the restaurants I've been to in Tampa, this one is my favorite. It's made authentically with quality ingredients. Their hummus with EVOO was exceptional. Their Mendi Lamb and ribs were delicious. I especially love that they put the phyllo dough on top of our combined entrees and drizzled honey over it. I look forward to the next time I come back.
