Fantastic Nepalese food which I have never tried. I was with a large group so we all agreed to order and try different dishes. We had the Butter Chicken: Tandoori chicken cooked in tomato-based cream butter sauce, some Momos (which are like dumplings) and another sampler dish. We came on a slow Sunday night and were seated in a booth right away. Service was friendly and accommodating with spice levels on the dishes we ordered. Now on to the food! For appetizer, we ordered the Chicken 65 and the Chili Momos - both were flavorful and perfectly spiced. I recently visited Gorkhali Kitchen for lunch and had a phenomenal experience. This was my first time visiting a Nepalese restaurant but many of the menu items were very similar to what you would find at an Indian restaurant. I decided to order something more Nepalese focused: Chili Momo Chicken. This was the first time I have ever had these types of dumplings. The savory and lightly crisped dough were filled with tender seasoned ground chicken and topped with a rich flavorful sticky pepper sauce. Crisp pieces of onion and green pepper were a nice compliment. I also had a side of Garlic Naan which was soft and lightly crisp with a nice char and rich garlic. Stopped by for lunch and were seated right away. Ordered the mango lassi, vegetable samosa, roti, Nepalese Khaja set, and the chicken chili momo. Everything came out relatively timely and every dish was unique and very flavorful. My favorites were the samosa and the momo. The momo had a nice kick and the samosas had a delicious curry taste. It's ironic that in Florida, arguably the flattest state in the country arises a fantastic Himalayan restaurant in the midst of a suburban strip mall. I've only had Momos in other Nepalese restaurants so I was really excited to try other dishes from the region. Started with the Kothey Momo which was so flavorful with their dipping sauce. Next was the Nepalese Khaja Set which included a variety of different traditional snacks, chicken and soup. So many different spices all in this platter and I really enjoyed their delicious Aloo Bodi Tama soup with black eyed peas. The Chicken Choila was terrific and the Himalayan Thaali with garlic naan were just superb! For dessert I had to have the Gulab Jamun and so glad I did... delectable! My server was so very friendly and attentive, I didn't catch her name but she was super sweet. The restaurant itself was clean and the aroma of spices as you step through the door was fantastic! It's a small parking lot comparative to the number of shops here, parking can be a small issue. The interior is clean with some decoration. It's nice enough. Service can be slow. They are friendly and helpful, just sometimes can be slow. The food is fantastic. Lots of spices and depth. Whoever is in the kitchen gives a damn about what they serve. The Michelin bib gourmand is well deserved! The amazing restaurant takes place in an unassuming strip mall. The service was spectacular ! We loved the homey atmosphere. It felt like a meditative experience. The drinks set the night off right- I loved the mango drink especially. It was the perfect cooling yogurt beverage for some of the spicier bites later on. The Momo were the highlight here. I wish I could try every momo type. This was a truly out of this world dish. We had the chili chicken momo, which we would highly recommend. This place specializes in Nepali/Himalayan cuisine, with some overlap with Indian dishes. Chili Momo: Momo resembles dumplings, and in the past, my friends brought a bunch of tools from home to make them. You can choose chicken or veggie filling. The chili is genuinely spicy, so if you're cautious with heat, be careful. They seem to be pan-fried, and they're best eaten hot for a crispier texture. Himalayan Meal/Thaali: rice, veggies, cold potato salad (tangy), yogurt, and your choice of veggies/chicken/lamb, served in multiple small bowls on one platter, which looks quite fun. Gorkhali chicken and Himalayan Jimbu chicken, are quite popular here. They claim the main difference is the addition of herbs, but I couldn't discern much variation. Personally, I find it quite similar to Indian masala/curry dishes. Perhaps I'd prefer lamb curry; sometimes chicken at Indian or Southeast Asian restaurants lacks flavor or tends to be dry. But here it is, and I'm glad it's here :) While from a first glance, you would think that you went to an Indian restaurant, but a closer look shows subtle variations that make it distinctively Nepalese. The food really is such an interesting blend of Indian and Chinese influences. I tried the Khaja Set and really loved the various types of appetizers that came with it. We came after church on a Sunday to try something different and we weren't disappointed! It was not busy when we came. In spite of its humble location and decor, this place definitely deserves its Michelin Bib Gourmand status. My husband had the lemonade (which my he switched up for Coke), I liked it, but it wasn't his taste. My daughter had the Summer in Nepal which she described as a margarita with a salt rim vibe - they brought her a taste before the full glass and she liked it. I had the Nepalese Chiya which was a little creamy like a chai latte that I really enjoyed. Then we had the fried chicken momos (amazing with a sauce that's about as spicy as Buffalo), garlic naan, cheese naan (wonderful), Nepalese Kaja Set, Tandoori shrimp (flavorful and perfectly cooked with a nice mint chutney), the Himalayan Meal, Kheer, and Rasbari. The Kaja Set is a nice sampling with two types of chicken, a delicious soup with black eyed peas and bamboo, crunchy spicy soybeans which were quite spicy, beaten rice (which we found interesting, but not our favorite, and pickled vegetables that did not have a very noticeable vinegar flavor but were light and refreshing. The Nepalese meal has nice jasmine rice, some mild and very tender lentils, Gorkhali chicken which was tender with a great flavor that's not too spicy, sautéed mixed greens, more of the pickled vegetables, some potato fries and a yogurt sauce. I really wanted to try the Rabri, but they have had trouble getting all the ingredients, so we enjoyed their other desserts instead. It's about an hour drive for us, but we will be back! read more

The place is clean and each table has a red rose on it which is different. The capacity is 40 or so people. The inside space is a little small, but not cramped. The customers were mostly Indians, with a handful of white folks. Bear with me but I ordered the Tandoori Mixed Grill because I wanted meat. The dish comes with : 2 Lamb Chops 2 Chicken pieces 4 Large shrimp. The chicken and shrimp are cooked in Tandoori spices and the lamb is in a different spice set. All were ery tasty, ut not spicy. As is the style in many desi restauarants, it is served with a mint yogurt sauce that compliments the meat nicely. It comes with plain white rice. 8.5/10 I got an order of Garlic Naan. It was served hot and buttery with a strong taste. It was soft. 9/10 The service was solid. My water was served lukewarm the first time, but otherwise no glaring issues. I'd come again to try the momos and maybe a curry dish in the future. I might've found my favorite Indian food on this side of town!! Enter Gorkhali kitchen where you get Nepalese influence and Indian food. Jimbu chicken - Tomato based curry , slightly thick and very good, the aromatics stick out but I did think the chicken had too many bones for my liking. A couple of pieces had a thin layer of meat and a bunch of smaller bones. Goat vindaloo - my personal favorite of this meal, tender goat pieces that have soaked up the delicious vindaloo, I especially loved the fattier pieces because the lean ones were pretty tough haha. They charged me another $12 for the naan as opposed to offering it to me for driving another 40 minutes. My husband's gorkali chicken was a lot of bone and liquid (pictured). My son's chicken tikka masala had 7 small pieces of chicken in it. This used to be one of our favorite places to go- not any more. We will not be back. We came in on a Saturday night and it was packed, but only ended up waiting 5 minutes for a table. It's not a huge place, but the decor is warming and the staff was super friendly. We tried the steamed chicken momo and gobi manchurian to start and both were insanely delicious. So much flavor packed into both. The gobi manchurian took us by surprise with how good and crispy the cauliflower was. It almost tasted like chicken, never had cauliflower that tasty before. For entrees we went with the goat fry and gorkhali chicken with a side of garlic naan. The goat was crispy and well seasoned. The chicken was also really good, but I wish the sauce was a bit thicker. It was more of a broth consistency, but the chicken was tender and it was also delicious nonetheless. Prices were very fair for the portion and how good everything was. So glad we got a chance to try this place. Nice combination of the usual North Indian dishes: paneer tikka masala, naan, etc and unique addition of Nepali style dishes. Loved the chili momos! I've been dying to try this restaurant out ever since it came on my radar a couple of months ago! This local Himalayan restaurant located in a strip plaza in New Tampa serves up authentic Nepalese and Indian Cuisine at reasonable prices. It recently received a Bib Gourmand designation in the Michelin 2023 Guide and has been making its rounds on local foodie pages. I'm very happy I tried it and will definitely be back! We were warmly greeted upon entering and were quickly seated at a booth. The restaurant is modestly decorated, as we expected from a local eatery, but we thought the overhead lights were a bit glaring and that the space could've benefited from some background music. I believe there was some playing on the other side of the restaurant but we couldn't really hear it. These additions would've added to the ambiance for us. Nevertheless, we didn't come to Gorhkali Kitchen for the ambiance, we came for the food. And the food was delicious! Food- To start we ordered the Kothey pan-fried chicken Momos. They were so flavorful, perfectly crispy, and were accompanied with a fantastic slightly spiced tomato based dipping sauce. I look forward to trying the chilli Momo in the future. For our main courses we ordered the Gorkhali Chicken and the Himalayan Jimbu Chicken. The server was great at helping us with the menu and giving her recommendations. She even checked to see if the Gorkhali Chicken could be made boneless, as most of the chicken and goat dishes are served bone-in. The kitchen was able to accommodate this request! The Himalayan Jimbu Chicken was served bone-in and we were surprised to see small pieces of chicken containing small bones as we weren't anticipated this, but understand this is the nature of the dish that is served. Both chicken dishes came with a heavenly sauce that was fantastic when spooned over the basmati rice. We wish there was more sauce it was so good!! We ordered a side of the garlic naan which is some of the best I have ever tried. Wow! For dessert we ordered the Rabri which was packed with flavorful components such as cardamom and spices. It had an interesting texture. We'd like to try the Nepalese style Kheer/rice pudding next time. Drinks- We ordered the Summer in Nepal beverage, traditionally called aam panna I believe, knowing that it had mixed reviews. I have been to many Himalayan and Nepal cuisine internationally (except Nepal) but none is good as this one. And they are locally located. We start with momos with Jhol soup. This is steam dumplings in chilled soup. The infill of the dumplings we selected the chicken. It is quite good. The chilled soup Jhol is delicious with unimaginable spice. We also got the Nepalese Khaja Set. This is combo appetizer with six little portions of food. It includes the chicken sekuwa, chicken choila, soybean choila, beaten rice, aloo ko achar, and soup with potatoes and bamboo shoots. I highly recommend this dish. Our entree is the mixed grill tandoori. It has shrimp, lamb chop, and chicken. It is also a very good dish. The lamb, shrimp and chicken are in different marinated spice. The dish come with basmati rice with caramel onions on top. Our experience is great. Service is good. Food are awesome. Definitely highly recommended. read more

Maybe the best Nepalese Indian food combo in the area? Been on my radar as a Michelin honorable mention. From the outside G Kitchen is very unassuming. Just another eatery in a shopping plaza but on the inside the food totally speaks for itself and it's screaming loud and clear that this is a place you do not want to pass on. I would describe the staff as authentic and genuine. They knew I did not know how to order or pronounce most of the dishes, but our polite server escorted me through the features. Tried a little bit of it all. My favorite app was the chicken 65. Light and crispy with a kiss of spice like the slightest touch of the tip of a flame. Portions are big but so was the appetite. Also had to try the momos. A dumpling authentic to Nepal. Many types, but the chicken was a sure bet and again the sauce was flavorful and just ever so slightly spicy at the mild level. Venture up the heat scale if you dare. Fan of goat? They feature it in at least half a dozen dishes and make it the true greatest of all time. The goat curry did have some bone in the meat. Added flavor but surprised me when I bit down on it. Safest bet is the butter chicken. If this is your first time in this cuisine it is as safe a bet as ordering a cheeseburger at a Red Robin but still packs an orchestra of completely new spices to my American palate. Ended the lunch with a dessert recommendation which I would describe as donut holes in syrup. All house made of course. I believe the dough was fried milk. Super creamy texture and balance with the not too sweet cane sugar syrup. Could have dusted a few bowls of this alone. Appropriately priced and worth the drive from start to finish. read more

I'm a bit torn with the experience we had at this restaurant. I was really excited to try Nepalese food but perhaps my expectations were too high. The food was good but nothing to rave about (and certainly not Bib Gourmand material in my opinion). Full disclosure, we only tried multiple appetizers, drinks and dessert, we did not get any entrees. The Nepalese khaja set was a sampler of a few snack dishes, two differently seasoned chicken dishes (chicken choila and chicken sekuwa), soup and a few other items including soyabeans and beaten rice. The chicken choila was very spicy, the sekuwa was tastier. The soyabeans were not good, tasted kinda like wasabi but more intense. The soup (aloo bodi tama) was really flavorful and my favorite item in this set. The pan fried chicken momos are supposed to be their signature dumpling dish so we had to try them. They were pretty bland as were the fried okra. Probably the best dish of the evening was the goat fry and their cheese naan. The goat was tender and flavorful. The drinks we ordered were terrible, especially the lemon soda, it had a sulfur smell that was extremely off putting. The other drink, summer in Nepal was salty. Dessert perhaps was also a highlight. We got the rabri which had a thick consistency and the sweetness was not overpowering. Service was very friendly and attentive. Takeaways: Stellar food, stellar service, very good prices. Definitely lives up to the Michelin Bib Gourmand award! Food: The food here was phenomenal! Their menu is split about 70% Indian and 30% Nepalese, but 100% tasty! I seriously think the Chili Momo is the best dumpling I've ever had! Everything was so unique and tasty and just overall exciting! The goat curry was the most tender goat I've ever had! Service: The service here was amazing! Our waiter was so helpful and kind.
