It didn't look busy from the outside, but once we stepped in, it was clear folks knew what they were doing. There's plenty of parking, and the location is super easy to get to. Me and the kids came around lunchtime, and even though we'd never been, it felt familiar and welcoming, like we'd been there before. We were greeted and seated quickly, and our server came over within minutes to take our order. Now listen, one of my kids is picky picky, but I told her this summer we're trying new things to stretch those taste buds! We played it safe with our food choices, not knowing what to expect. My friend and i went here to celebrate her birthday, she always wanted to check it out. I'm glad we did. Jordan, our server, was wonderful in recommendations and service. The only thing that was disappointing was they didn't have gluten free enchiladas and the chicken also wasn't gluten free. Another great meal at Abuelo's! We were undecided on where to eat and of course I didn't want to keep suggesting the same places. Traffic was backed up and we wound up going by the Loop so just my luck we wound up at Abuelo's! (Yes!!!) We got Josh as a server and our meal was amazing as always! Quick, friendly! Abuelos has often been a family favorite for us, and finding one in Orlando was a treat. Unfortunately their reservation tool is very ineffective. For 3 days straight it showed no tables available, so by the third day we decided to just drop in. We found a nearly empty restaurant though the reservation tool showed nothing available that night. The space is big and inviting - it feels like dining al fresco in Mexico City - and Daniel provided exemplary service. Compared to other Mexican restaurants in the South, the chips were moderately, and the salsa mildly, above average. I ordered the enchiladas, one filled with cheese and onion with ranchera (red) sauce, and the other filled with spinach (creamed) with queso sauce. Both were fantastic. Greatly appreciated being able to order completely vegetarian black beans and lime cilantro rice (the refried beans contain pork, and the Spanish rice is made with chicken broth). Little touches like this go a long way to ensure that customers love their meals. Disappointed in our visit today....we were seated right away, orders taken quickly, etc. Food was good and service was fine. Problem started when I told the waiter that I had a coupon for $5 off...I didn't realize that I gave the wrong number to my account. I just recently signed up for an account and didn't realize that the number I gave was the number for the coupon for $5 off and not my actual account number. Waiter came back with the check and said that his manager was looking into it but couldn't find anything with my name on it from recent transactions. So I looked again on my account and realized I made a mistake. I apologized to the waiter and said I gave him the wrong number and he said he will go get his note pad to write down the correct number. He came back with a notepad and wrote my number down along with the check. A few minutes passed and waiter came back and said the manager said he couldn't give me the $5 off this time but that I can come back next time. I didn't understand why when at first they couldn't find my account number the first time they didn't come back to double check with me to see if I had given them the wrong number and to perhaps ask me to look again before ringing up the check? I even showed the waiter the number (the one that I mistakenly gave) on my phone from the email and he copied it off! Obviously I do have an account if the waiter can see the actual email in my phone. Why did he not tell the manager what he saw and that I wasn't making it up? Mistakes do happen and I even apologized to the waiter when he returned. Not sure what happened with the communication between the waiter and his manager. When the waiter told me his manager said they cannot ring up the check again I did think of speaking to the manager but my husband advised me to leave it alone. The $5 coupon was only for a limited time so I can't use it another time. It wasn't even about the $5 off but more of customer service and giving customers the benefit of the doubt. We've been to this restaurant quite a few times recently after giving this restaurant a try again after some time away and thought things have improved. . Overall the place is beautiful but the flavor or presentation were not in the food. It didnt come out looking very appetizing. I came in a big group and all of us were disappointed. I ordered a carnitas burrito and it looked like it was deflated. Rice was good, beans were not. We would most likely not be returning back to this spot. Not authentic Mexican food. This quaint Mexican Restaurant takes your breath away with the grand decor as you walk in. The Dip sampler is delicious and plenty for a party of 2 to 4. I ordered the Fajita Chimichanga again a big portion this can also be shared. They also have a loyalty rewards program for repeat customers. The waiter was also the Bartender since we went around 3pm when it was not too busy. He recommended the Sangria Swirl alcoholic drink for myself and I was pleasantly surprised at the great taste. This day was National Margarita Day so of course I had to stop somewhere to celebrate. My daughter picked this restaurant out and I was happy to give it a try. As I entered, it had a open air look Mexican style courtyard with seating in the middle and around in the halls of the courtyard. It was lite as though you were outside. They offered a mix of both modern and traditional Mexican décor thru out. I thought It was very different for a place that offered Mexican cuisine. Our server Louis was great as we never had to wait for anything. He checked back on us every few minutes to make sure we were happy. I had the El Jefe Margarita, which was $2.00 off and was Top Shelf but still cost $11.25. I was a bit disappointed they did not offer better prices on this day though.T hey offered to donate to a non profit instead. They do give you some great chips and multiple tasty salsas before your order comes which were very good as I was hungreee. I ordered the lunch special which was a enchilada and a taco, $10.59. I had the brisket taco and the meat was shredded and was in a sauce, which was a bit heavy for me. My daughter had the Lunch chicken fajitas, $14.49. Overall, I felt they are a bit pricey as there is a lot of this cuisine being offered in this zip code for less and its very good. For a lunch it cost me a dinner price. Over $40.00. They have a green tomatillo salsa with pineapple which is delicious. Their chips are light and airy and not on the greasy side so they are pretty delicious. Sangria is really good. For vegetarians they have a Chile Quesadilla under appetizers and it is really good. This restaurant wouldn't be my first choice for Mexican food in the area. I live in South Florida and make the 3.5 hour drive north just to eat at this Abuelo's. This weekend I meet up with family from Arkansas and Wisconsin at Walt Disney World but insisted on taken them out of the park and to my favorite place to eat. You guys did not disappoint!!! Hostess greeted us with a smile and was very welcoming, we were sat at our table and then nothing. Even with excessive rubber necking from all three people in our party, nothing. Understanding there could be other things going on we waited and waited. After 20 mins of NOT EVEN a drink order let alone acknowledgment of any kind we agreed to leave. When walking out we stopped at the hostess station and told the her and what looked to be the manager we were leaving due to never having ANYONE coming to the table. On top of the two top that was sat 30secs before we had been, already had their food. We came for lunch on Sunday. The energy was low. It was a beautiful day and we wanted to sit patio. No one was sitting on the patio, the furniture looked sad and not updated, and it was uncovered so we decided to sit inside. The hostess was busy doing something we approached her. I had to tell her how many was in our party. Food 4/5 We had a taco salad and guacamole. Everything was fresh. We noticed and appreciated that! It all tasted bland though. We put a pinch of salt in our guacamole because it tasted like it had none in it. Service 4/5 Our server Luis was great. He was attentive and observant. I had asked for no meat and cheese on the salad and he made sure to take out the mixed cheese, chili con queso, charro beans, etc. The guy that brought our food out had great energy. Smiling, asked if it looked correct and if we needed anything else. Someone was also with him, looked like she was shadowing him for training. :) When we left I was kind of bummed because the hostess (different one from earlier) didn't say a word to us. We come here for lunch now and then; I usually order the chicken fajitas that are really good. My husband and I weren't super hungry, so we opted for 2 cold draft Dos Equis Lagers, and a huge chicken burrito (more than enough). While we waited for our order, we snacked on the complimentary order of fresh chips and homemade salsas (sweet, hot and mild). The chips and salsa are to die for!!! I just learned that they have a rewards program. That really surprises me, because as many times as we have been there, no one has ever offered this to us. It is starting to feel a little worn and dated but overall it is super nice for a casual chain restaurant. Service is usually very good. Quick and friendly! Love that you get 3 salsa choices with your chips! Negatives: Food - there is just much better Mexican food now in the area. Even with chains, Chuy's has this place beaten hands down. When it first opened there was less competition. My fajitas were worse than what you would get at Chili's and those are pretty bad. Prices - way, way, way high for what you get. This is one of my favorite places. They have the best chips, salsa, & quest!!! And my favorite menu item is their quesadilla Al horno with chicken. Super big and cheesy. Their rice is delicious and their fries crispy. Everything they make is delicious. The servers and bartenders are always on point and quick. Delicious margs. Pricing: $$, about $30 per person including alcohol beverage and entree Drinks: My wife had a sangria swirl, which did look different from the actual picture, however was delicious. Food: For our entrees, my wife had The Grande which includes a little bit of everything, this is a great entree to share for 2 since it's the best bang-for-your-buck, lots of food 1 great price. I had the steak fajita enchilada, it was very savory and I cleaned my plate fairly quickly (I think I was very hungry) Service: Since we had a private room for the company event, we were immediately seated. The waitress was great, she attended to all of our needs even when we were a large party. Verdict: My overall experience was great however the only reason I have it at a 4/5 was the timing on the food and service. This was my first time at Abuelos. The restaurant was beautiful, and a little more upscale than your regular Mexican restaurant. The decor was flattering, very pleasing, and not overwhelming. Because of covid, the restaurant had a ñimited menu, but everything that was offered on the menu looked scrumptious. I ordered the fajita chimichanga (two of my favorite dishes) with the cheese potatoes. It was extremely good. The fusion of the two had my mouth watering. It was a really delicious dinner. Alyssa, our waitress was top notch. She (and her sister, Josephine (our server)) offered impecable service. They took care great care of us, offered us excellent service, and kept us laughing our entire meal. Our experience was great, even though Michael Bigford (One of the managers) kept giving us mean, dirty looks each time he walked pass our table. It was annoying, aggrivating, and a bit intimidating. Some friends of ours invited us here to meet them for dinner. Let me preface this with some information about me: I'm from Colorado and have lived my life around authentic Mexican food. Consequently, I'm a Mexican food snob and have found myself avoiding it in Florida for fear that it will be the gringo version. With that in mind, I tenaciously came to Abuelo's, not knowing what to expect. As soon as I walked in, the restaurant was very comfortable with large open and well decorated spaces. The interior is very well kept and roomy and feels welcoming. We made our way to the table, past the sign of the evening's specialties, including a Raspberry Margarita! Count me in. From there, everything just kept going well. The wait staff was very helpful, although a bit difficult to understand behind his mask, and guided us to good choices. I ordered the Grande, not realizing apparently that it would be massive. The Steak and Enchiladas were also a good choice. The food here was good. I wasn't really expecting it to be as authentic as what I had grown up on, but for the most part, it was. It was a great experience for my first Mexican food in Florida (unless you count Taco Bell, which I don't). It's a bit of a haul to get here, but it will be somewhere in my future for a return trip. read more

The atmosphere is nice and the service is fantastic but the food is severely lacking. Our meals included the fajita chicken, the sea bass, chicken tacos and the tortilla soup. The fajita: the chicken was served on a mound of overcooked onions with 4 pieces of bell pepper (also overcooked). The chicken while cooked well was not seasoned and oh so bland. The beans were more like a soup. That was the standard for all the items - bland. Even the margaritas were tasteless . It would be shocked if anything was actually cooked in the kitchen- it seems to all be defrosted and reheated. I would not suggest eating here. read more
