At first they seemed great! Replaced my entire AC system in a day (14K) 4 years ago. But the pushy service people who come for the "regular maintenance" and now - not backing their product! The capacitor and thermostat both went out and I had to get a different company to come fix it because AC by J couldn't get here fast enough in the 118 degree Arizona heat. I just got a second opinion and found out there is no leak and all my system needed was refrigerant! I lost out on alot of rent because of this very expensive misinformation! Do not use this company. They replaced a hot water tank anode that really didn't need replacing yet and then improperly drained the system which clogged up my Kohler shower controls. The repairman told me that he made a mistake. They had to come back about ten times over the next few months but could not fix it. Then the manager refused to call me back so I had to get another plumbing co. to fix it. It had to be removed and replaced with a new one. The cost to do this was over $5000 since the tile around it had to be removed and replaced. It was a disaster and they have a one year guarantee that they did not honor. I am currently seeing an attorney to sue them. read more

I scheduled a service appointment through their AI system, which was surprisingly thorough and confirmed my booking for three days later. But when the appointment day came, the actual team had no record of it. They eventually arranged for Derrick Long to come out at the end of his shift -- which I appreciated -- but his only recommendation was to replace both HVAC units and sign up for a service agreement. A service agreement? After they botched the very first appointment? And pushing new equipment right away? That felt insulting. I got a second opinion from another company -- they quickly found the issue: critters had chewed through thermostat wires. Simple, inexpensive fix. No need for new units. Just solid diagnostics. Bottom line: AC by Jay relied too heavily on their tech, dropped the ball on communication, and went straight to upsell instead of solving the actual problem. I won't be using them again. read more

I called ACbyJ and they sent John Bondi over, he was able to temove that part and finnish the job for me. This was one of those jobs I just could not do myself. Years ago, I had Parker & Sons and always felt they were trying to rip me off on every sirvice call. I later heard that Parker & Sons paid their techs commission for whatever they could sell to their customers when on a service call. I switched to AC by J and have been very impressed with thier level of service and honesty. I decided to sell my house and travel for a while so I no longer need their service but wanted to let others in the area know about a competent and honest A/C and plumbing company that takes excellent care of their customers. I had my own computer reseller business for many years and was successful because I simply did what was in the best interest of my customers. Sadly AC by J is not the excellent HVAC company it used to be since moving to add plumbing and electric and then partnering with AnyHour Service and moving to use AI to handle calls. I have noticed over the last several years that the really good HVAC techs, several of whom would service my system regularly, no longer seem to be with the company. More recent techs who have come to service my system have been younger and come across as less knowledgeable and experienced. For the many years I used AC by J it was like clockwork that a very friendly employee would call me bi-annually in March and October to schedule a check of my cooling or heating system for regular maintenance and to remedy any problems that came up. This fall is the first time nobody called me, so I called them to schedule a service appointment, and the "rep" was AI. I scheduled an appointment without difficulty but found they now offer a 5 hour window for arrival time, in this case between 12:00-5:00, which is an increase from the 3-4 hour arrival window AC by J used to offer. On the day of the appointment (11/5/25), I did want to narrow down when the tech would be arriving and learn who would be coming, so called at around 11:00. AI again answered the call and did connect me with their Dispatching Department. It wasn't too long until a real person, Marcie, a very upbeat and friendly gal who clearly wanted to be helpful, came on the line and we started to talk but then the call dropped and a bit of telephone tag ensued. We finally talked and Marcie indicated I was next following the customer the tech was heading to, so it would likely be in the 2:00-4:00 range that he would arrive at my home. And she let me know the tech who would be coming was Ricardo. When 4:30 rolled around and I hadn't heard anything from anyone, I called to find out where things stood. I again talked to an AI and was told that the tech was still working on the job before mine, which if that was true, meant he'd been on that job for 4-5 hours. Not inconceivable, but hard to tell. I was offered the option for him to still come that day (which didn't make sense given the time) or to reschedule for another day. I opted to cancel the service appointment rather than reschedule and felt enough had changed with the company that made me uncomfortable so I also requested to cancel the $16.99 a month subscription service I have had with AC by J for quite a few years now. The AI confirmed that I wanted to cancel and said it would send my message to Management. Several days later, I have not heard from anyone. So most unfortunately, AC by J, a once stellar company with an excellent reputation, has lost me as a customer. I have already gone on Thumbtack and found another company with excellent reviews who had a real person respond and was available to send someone the next day. read more

Looking at some of the most recent reviews from others. I guess that I am not alone. Consumers beware of this company and its merged company with "Any Hour Electric and Plumbing" I DO NOT RECOMMEND them for anything unless you want to give away $285 for charges on a visit that took them 45mins. A purchase of a tankless system from them was made in 2024 July. The system had an error 61 on it. They told me that system is still under warranty but since it was Aug 2025. The labor warrranty expired July 2025. Only a few weeks out of warranty. They said service call to send out tech would only be $28-33. I approved visit thinking, it would be at most 1 hour around $135 charge from other normal plumbers. Their tech came out could not find issue visually. So they called tech support from manufacture. They help resolved problem and tech was in and out in less than 45mins. I called to ask why it was so much for time spent. I first spoke to their AI system thinking it was someone. Left message for supervisor to call and inquire about how they determined $285. I got a call back from rep saying they will have an supervisor call within 48hours. I called back 4 days later. Same run around. This company only cares giving minium service at unexplained 285 charge for 45mins of work. I would give them negative star rating if I could. Let me begin by saying I have been a HUGE AC by J fan for several years and have always reccomended their services but a recent event has changed my attitude. Prior to the merger or partnership with Any Hour Service, their customer service was five (5) star across the board. Now, not so much. I sincerely hope they have been able to retain the great technicians I have met over the years as they were all top notch people. As a result of the horrific response to an after hour "emergency", and be aware I have a full maintenance and "VIP" contract with them in place and recently renewed, I sincerely doubt whether I will ever use them again. To be clear, I was only able to schedule an "emergency" service 6 days in the future, they could not provide me a time window on that day except "after noon" and someone would contact me that day to let me know when their tech could be scheduled.. The fact that I had a maintenance contract and service agreement meant nothing to the AI answering the call. I tried several numbers I have contacted AC by J on before and all went to the same AI or went unsnswered. I had to employ another company to come and fix our problem (they were able to respond and have the problem fixed in less then 8 hrs) E-mail below: I am SADLY disappointed in your new partnership with Any Hour Service. I have been a customer for many years and when an after hour issue occurred recently, the AI generated voice of "Dane" was completely inept in scheduling, provoding any information or even showing empathy beyond repeating a few key phrases. I have reccomended AC by J to many people because of your outstanding customer service but , as of now, I will NOT do that any longer and when our service contract expires I will be engaging a different company. I would not recommend AC by J / Any Hour. I have give them all my HVAC business over 12 years starting with buying a new Daikin system they said was 17 SEER but it was only 16 SEER (they had to rebate other customers that bought the same). I am upgrading to a Trane and a new supplier even though I have 3 years warranty left on parts and supplies. Labor warranty expires end of this year. A recent bi-annual spring tune-up was the last straw. Their technician didn't clean my coils nor did he check the coolant level (he said not needed). My system has been 100% down over 3 times, the 1st being year 2 when they entire blower coil froze up because of a condenser coolant leak. Another time the condenser motor burned out and the technician replaced it with a 2 phase motor when a 3 phase was required. Tripped my house circuit breaker all weekend long and I had to beg them to send technicians out. 3 1/2 days without cooling in 120 degree weather sucks. I could go on and on but why...just need to bite the bullet and move on with a proven Trane and smaller but better local supplier that has long time employees. read more

If I could select 0 stars I would. I had a tankless water heater installed by this company, and it has been nothing but trouble from the start. They charged a hefty sum, and from day one, the system didn't work properly. They had to come out multiple times to remount the unit because it was crooked, redo the piping, and repair damage to the side of the house. The system eventually failed completely, with significant rusting and damage. When I called them, they claimed it was due to lack of maintenance, despite never informing me that maintenance was necessary--contrary to their selling point of "unlimited hot water with no maintenance." The technician didn't explain his actions, spent minimal time assessing the issue, and then recommended replacing the system with a standard water heater for an additional $4,800. To add insult to injury, they charged a $175 service fee just to inspect the unit briefly, despite having already received a photo of the issue. They initially waived the fee when they came out on a Saturday, but then charged for the same service they did nothing to resolve. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service and the additional costs they've imposed. I would not recommend this company based on my experience. read more

Only contact this company if you don't mind being "ripped off". I contacted this company after SW Gas referred them as a "trusted vendor". The pilot light in my gas hot water tank went out so I "thought" all that was needed was to have it reignited. SW Gas said they couldn't come to my residence for this so gave me the name of AC by J to contact. I did just that and when the plumber (John) came to my home almost immediately he let me know that I needed a new hot water tank. My tank was installed in 2017 and "apparently" was unrepairable (according to John). He started by letting me know that attempting to fix it would be wasting $ so then proceeded to give me the "best price possible" to replace. He walked out of my home saying he needed to get the "price approved by his manager" before offering it to me because it was "such a great price". John then told me the price to replace a 75 gallon gas hot water heater would be almost $6400. I knew immediately that this was a rip off! I contacted numerous plumbers to get an estimate to replace it and the HIGHEST price I was quoted was $2400. The fact that a company could attempt to rip off a customer should tell anyone all they need to know before thinking about contacting them. read more

AC by J replaced out AC unit a few years ago and up until this year service was acceptable. Basically all we needed was tune ups on the heater and AC each year. We paid for the service package so we would get a better price and service. We called in April to set up the service check and were told the earliest they could make it was May 22nd. Annoying, but okay as long as they came out before the real heat sets in. I received a text at 12:08 reminding us that they would be out for the appointment on 05/22 and that they had "partnered" with Any Hour "to serve you better", At 6 PM I received a call from AC by J saying due to an emergency they would have to reschedule to June 27th. I protested vigorously but was told it was an emergency and the reschedule was unavoidable. I asked what kind of emergency took over a month to correct but the same excuse was repeated. Then, since it would be the end off June before I could get my AC tuned up, I asked for a refund for the money I had pre-paid and was told they don't refund. I wiil not do business with this company again nor will they receive a recommendate. I give them 1/2 a star. read more

Mixed bag with these guys. They installed a new rooftop AC unit at our condo a year or two ago, for a reasonable fee and on schedule. But then you're called repeatedly to set up a "free maintenance check" (whatever that might be). I finally did schedule, twice, but both times they failed to show. To be fair, one of those was set for what turned out to be the hottest day of the year, so they got backed up. But they never bothered to let me know my AM appointment wasn't happening until late PM. I've used AC by J now on 2 of my rental properties. They make solid recommendations but don't hit you with the sales pitch. Always on time, communicative and perform solid work. I'll be using them as my go to as I build out my rental portfolio. Follow up is tremendous! So... Was told tech would come between 12 & 5pm. The tech calls at 4:57pm to say he would be there in 45mins. He knocks on the door at 4:45. No apology for waiting so late to call... Nor the additional 45 min wait time. (A courtesy call should always occur.) Acted as if he was doing me a favor Vs a paid service. No respect for time. I'll give 2 stars as he did fix the issue. When I inquired as what the problem was... He points to a part and says 'this'. As if I knew what 'this' was. Arrogant over the phone. Arrogant in person. Probably won't be my 1st, 2nd or 3rd... AC by J was out on 7/3 to repair what turned out to be a blocked drainage pipe and an expense of $301.00. A month later on 8/6 I woke up to no A/C at 2AM only to find my system had been shut off. I called AC by J at 4AM and got their AI system, which by the way is not helpful at all, Mr. AI has a very placating voice, who told me the first available appointment was not until 8/11! It was 117 degrees for the past few days, and they expected me to wait until 8/11? Mr. AI said they would add me to a wait list for anything sooner. The kicker is I did find another company to come and do the repair that morning of 8/6 only to find out the repair was the SAME repair that had been done on 7/3 by AC by J and needed to be re-done as it was not done properly the first time and it caused the system to shut off AGAIN and cost me an additional $250! I would not recommend this company. I think the tech came, did a quick job to appease me and that was it. Also, AC by J did not even confirm the appointment they supposedly put me in the books for on 8/11, nor has anyone contacted me from 8/6 until now when I am writing this review to see if I still needed service. AC by J came highly recommended by a family member but I really can't see why, unless it has to do with merging companies and your service has gone way downhill since that has taken place. How do you let your customer who spent money with you, and a lot of money as another repair was done about 3 weeks ago that was well over $3,000, be told they have to wait 5 days for their A/C to be repaired. Had a new unit installed over 10 days ago. Okay experience not great did not really care for the installer attitude ,We previously had a service contract with AC BY J so we decided to use them for the $10,000.00 replacement .After the install I had to call the install coordinator myself instead of them calling Me this person was very nice and apologized for the delay .Now i have to call about my warranty and I am nervous too because the folks on the phone act like your bothering them . Still waiting for my paperwork and warranty which I was told I would have 7-10 days after .Why tell me something if you are not going to do it or be dishonest .Not sure I would give their name to a friend if they needed a new AC maybe only for a service contract. read more

I manage a property for friends who live out of state and called AC by J to replace the compressor fan motor which was under warranty since the entire unit was only 2 years old. I was given approximate time the service provider would arrive of 3:15ish. I waited until 6:30pm and no service person showed up. I left as my tenants arrive home. TO BE CLEAR, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE SERVICE PERSON. MATT WAS EXCELLENT! The company and all the people I spoke with were of no assistance at all. I cannot blame the service person nor the phone service person as they can only do what they are told to say and do. However, I blame management for not having personnel available to perform the services needed in a timely manner and simply make up excuses. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT is the manner in which they perform billings. I was given a price prior to the service being performed and thought it to be very high since it was a WARRANTY item. However, I needed to get air conditioning to my tenants. I gave the service provider the property owners credit card for payment which I am authorized to do, along with the OWNERS name and MY address. The billing simply described replacing the WARRANTY fan motor and checking for any leaks or pressure problems with a billing of over $500. There was NO breakdown of price for service call, warranty part price, tax, etc. Simply a total amount. When asked for a break down of what the TOTAL price was for I was told this is the way they do their billing. They ALSO FAILED to put the OWNERS NAME on the billing nor the manner in which it was paid, i.e. credit card, cash, check. The owners name needs to be on the billing for her to use it for tax purposes. I went to our Arizona Registrar of Contractors to file a complaint about the billing but they do not get involved in any billing under $1,000. and usually don't get involved in billings at all. Our wonderful State agencies designed to protect us. BOTTOM LINE... I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND NOR USE THIS COMPANY EVEN IF THEY WOULD WORK FOR FREE. read more

I came home from work at 5 PM last Monday to find that my water heater blew up. I remember thinking no way am I going to get a plumber out here tonight. DO NOT CALL THEM - RIP OFF!!!! First time I had them out here was 2 years ago for their $99 service special. Technician did fine and found a bad contactor as well, which I had them replace. He also recommended that I put in EZ-traps on the condensate lines of my 3 units, even though I'd never had an issue. I asked him to provide a quote and they quoted me $329.00 each, for a total of $987.00. I was astounded. I went online, bought 3 of them for $25.00 each and installed them myself in 15 minutes each. Fast forward to this week (2 years later). My fan on one of the units kept powering down and then turning back on. Other than that, the unit was working fine and cooling the house perfectly. I decided to give them another try. (Some of us don't learn the first time) Tech came out for $89 and spent over 2 hours assessing the problem. Then had his field supervisor come out to verify the issues. They said that not only did I need a new blower motor, but there was also a Freon leak and I needed a new evaporator coil along with the 16.5 lbs. of Freon to recharge the unit. $1600 for the blower motor, $4,000 for the evaporator coil, and $4,000 for the Freon to recharge the unit. Almost $10,000 for the repairs!!! I did some research and found that the blower motor cost about $725, the evaporator coil about $2200, and the Freon was $349 for 10 lbs. That's about $3600 in parts and half a day's work for the tech. Profits are fine, but 10X for the Freon?!?! $6,000 in labor and profit for half a day's work!! But wait, they would recommend that, because the unit is 15 years old, I just install a new unit for the low, low price of ONLY $17,400. And the new unit was only 17 SEER vs my old unit, which was 19 SEER. I told them I'd get back to them, and they put everything back together. Unit worked the rest of that evening, and the next morning, the blower motor stopped working entirely. Coincidence??? I called a friend that just had another company install his new HVAC unit. The guy came out, did not find a Freon leak, and installed a new blower motor for less than $1,000 (parts and labor) and the unit now works perfectly again. I wonder how many people this company has RIPPED OFF? read more

Great technician who was on time and worked hard to diagnose and repair our problem. I am confident he was very efficient. I was sticker shocked by the prices for the parts, though. The markup charge to the customer for parts that can be obtained at any HVAC store or internet was just astronomical. They charged us- $92.00 for a fuse that could be bought at any home supply store for $10.00, $220.00 charge for a $29.00 30/40 contactor. $376.00 for a $75.00 surge protector. I understand having overhead and a higher markup than the internet, but charging 9, 8, and 5 times the retail price for parts is just insane. My first time experience with this business has left me feeling ripped off. I would not recommend using this company. Shop around for a small business HVAC company who will treat you right and not have to over charge customers to support all the advertising around the valley and TV. read more

This is one fabulous company! They have replaced two AC units for us and recently repaired an under slab water leak, with great results. Mikey G., was the plumber who handled all this, which included re-routing/replacing all the hot water lines in that part of the house. It was a massive undertaking, but, Mikey knew exactly what was necessary. He told us exactly what he was going to do, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, neat and efficient. I could not recommend a service professional more highly. This company has some of the best employees I have ever encountered. These folks are terrific and really came to my rescue at a time when no one else in the local area would. It was early July and the temps here in Scottsdale were easily over 110 degrees. I had just gotten the keys to my new townhouse and on the day that my floor installers were scheduled to install some very expensive plank wood flooring throughout the home, the HVAC (AC) decided to give up the ghost. Suddenly I was in the almost impossible situation of trying to get AC running in a home where expensive materials would soon warp and become unusable. The original company that installed the HVACs in this development wouldn't be available for 2 weeks. My family's multi-decade HVAC service provider wouldn't help. One of the huge local HVAC companies that advertise non-stop about how great their service is, wouldn't even pick up the phone. Then I tried AC by J. I got a human being who was able to schedule the first appointment for that morning at 10AM. Their agent was able to diagnose the problem and explain my situation so that I could understand it. By that afternoon they had a second agent inspecting my property and quoting me for a brand new HVAC system. Two days later the entire HVAC was replaced and my wood flooring job got saved. Getting this kind of service in the middle of summer in Arizona (when everyone is clamoring for AC repair/replacement, tells me all I need to know about this company and the folks who run it. They make excuses for poor overpriced service and they charge you based on how much they think you can afford. I've easily spent 15k with them over the last 15 years, and all they are willing to do to try to keep me happy is throw in a small part. Canceled my agreement, and posting my feedback here.
