Ordered a handgun and shotgun online and was refused Delivery unlawfully. I have two homes. my billing address for my credit card is One home, and I live in the other home and it's on my drivers license. I was refused because I did not have my billing address on my drivers license. Also by law, I'm supposed to be able to provide additional documents to prove residency, but was not offered that chance, just a blanket no. I will never shop at academy again and I recommend you do the same. read more

I get it, some stores don't like when customers dry fire, but there's a right way to talk to customers and a wrong way. I certainly won't be buying any firearms from this location. As a recent transplant to Texas, we were unprepared for the huge selection of items available at this sporting goods store. Academy seemed to have a selection of every item from every possible sport that is played here in Texas. From darts, frisbee golf and corn hole to fishing, hunting, camping and all of the more popular sports you see on tv. Academy had everything. They even had a good selection of BBQ's, smokers and accessories to go with them. Academy seemed to have it all. Their firearms selection was great and I was very impressed with their giant fishing section. The employees in the fishing and firearms sections were also very friendly and knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed speaking with Sue as she placed new line on my numerous fishing reels. I also enjoyed be assisted and chatting with Nathan who was working in fishing and fire arms that day. Do you know how utterly stupid it is when you don't allow someone to PAY the balance on a credit card? I have my sons academy card and debit card in my hand. I know his social, drivers license and of course....date of birth. He asked me to please pay off the balance of his Academy card today, using his debit card, because he works 50+ hours a week. I called. I literally gave this woman HIS ENTIRE CARD NUMBER and other personal information only to have her say I can not pay the balance on it with his debit card? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Y'all really need to get your shit together. That's so incredibly ignorant. I could go and charge his Academy CC to the limit and no one would bat an eye but dear lord we have to be so cautious when someone wants to GIVE YOU MONEY? read more

Do not buy treadmills from this Academy. Warranties mean nothing . They are responsible for their vendors and mechandise, as all business owners are. However, they do not feel this way. Xterra treadmills are the worse, 4 motors in less than 3 years. The I am told I should JUST BUY A NEW ONE. The warranty should start over on each new motor. Oh now its my board? This Academy needs to fire their online social media person because they haven't updated their business hours to match what is posted outside the store. Thought I had a solution to my problem because their online posted hours said they opened at 8 am, so I show up at 8 am only to find out that their hours of operation start at 9 am. Then an employee waiting in her car was very rude (she approached me) when I questioned why the the online hours didn't match with the actual hours. Guess I'll skip Academy from now on stick with Amazon or Dick's Sporting Goods. Academy has been going down hill for the past few years anyway. read more

Walked in and was greeted by a very nice elder woman. I came for "Beach" shoes, you know, the kind you can wear on the beach or in the water. Went over to the shoe department and asked the Hispanic young lady where this item can be found. She then called another Hispanic young male and his buddy about the item. They wasted my time and I was not in the mood, twisted ankle was killing me. "We are sold out", finally came his reply. No looking, no telling me where they may be found just a quick "We are sold out." Just something didn't sit right with me, maybe it was that smug look on his face, maybe it was my ankle, I dunno. So I asked him if they had canvas bags, the second thing on my list. He didn't know, so I asked where they may be. He gave me a vague location so I just limped away before he was finished with his BS answer. I could not find any canvas bags. In the gun section was some blonde guy with a man bun flirting with a girl half his age from Wisconsin. He wouldn't shut up long enough for me to ask so I headed to the exit and went to Walmart where I found my bag. The 2 stars are for the elderly lady at the door. read more

CONROE---(0 stars wasn't an option) I placed an order online for a $99 canopy which their website showed in stock. I completed the order, paid my money and the pick up was pending. But then I get a text message telling me that they're sorry that they could not fulfill my order. When you click on the link within the text for options, it takes you to a website that explains that item is no longer available. However, the three options it gives you are: have it shipped (to arrive 10 days later), pick it up at another location (Of which it gives you no way to know which location they're referring too nor how far you'll need to travel), or cancel the order. Since I needed the canopy this weekend, it seemed that my only option was to cancel the order and go into the store and perhaps they just didn't have the color I selected. But what the website also didn't tell you is that after you cancel your order, they tell you your money will be refunded to you within 7 business days. Of course, I was absolutely shocked at the fact that it was their mistake, there was too little information to have made any other choice besides canceling, and now they tell me my funds won't be available for up to seven business days. Customer service....a complete joke. All she could say is, "I understand" and then offer me a 15% discount. Great if I had my original funds!!! It's unfortunate that this business seems to have so little regard for their customers money when it's that money that makes their business possible. I'll never shop Academy again. Friendly staff and a clean store. Very knowledgeable folks in the hunting and fishing departments.

Love going here but the staff is useless unless your in the gun section or making a return. Example I go to this location once or twice a month and know the layout very well. I asked an older gentleman who was working in the water sports ski department a simple question and I had found the product online. The man told me they did not sell it in the store and attempted to sell me a product not meant for the material I was using. I promptly left him in the dust found it and walked away he chased me down even though he saw that I had found what I needed and told me he found it and an additional product that would help which I also already had. Your employees need to know what and where they are selling if I pulled crap like that I would no longer have a job! Glad the cashiers are nice !!! read more

Essentially the sporting goods department of WalMart. The store is always a mess, like a hurricane blew through. Don't expect and help finding items, the child workers don't care about their jobs and it shows. Very wide selection and low prices. Mark, the man that works behind the gun counter, is the worst excuse for a sales person, I have ever seen. He started waiting on me, then stopped several times to wait on other people. It took a hour to buy a firearm. During that time I had to wait for this guy, who was doing everything he could to procrastinate. I will never buy another firearm at Academy. read more

I have successfully found not just the worst customer service at any Academy store but one of the worst examples of customer service anywhere!! Six associates behind the gun counter (one of whom was a manager) and not one could/would help me find a fishing rod. Went to purchase a hunting license and a case of shotgun shells. The protocol for hunting license is pay at the register and go to another desk to get the license. When I got to the other desk there was no one there so I asked an employee nearby to locate someone. He paged and about five minutes later the three people assigned to this station came strolling up. I picked up a case of shotgun shells from a stack under a large sign that said $4.99/ box /$49.99/ case. When I went to checkout they rangup at $5,49 per box. So the cashier called for the department manager. She never responded. I went back and took a picture of the stack and the sign and showed it to the cashier. She said she could not change the price. Finally after some additional delay she changed the price and I was able to finish checking out. This store desperately needs a management overhaul. Too many employees standing around without supervision presence or direction. read more

Generally has everything I'm looking for and at reasonable prices. Their sales are great! I'm not a big fitness person, but I live in flip flops and can find Reef and Crocs at here. Also, my kids and grandkids ARE into all different sports so I can find things for them most of the time. read more

I don't understand some of the previous reviews regarding the condition of the stores. I've shopped at maybe a dozen different Academy stores over the years and have not had a bad experience. My guess is those are either fake reviews from competitors or people who shop for "an experience " rather than for good value. You just can't beat Academy for offering good value. read more

The sporting goods counter is in dire need of better management, replacement of 2 employees, and a take a number for service help. I cannot believe with the constant chaos that someone hasn't thought of this by now. Secondly. This is not the first incident with an employee or employees behind the gun counter, but the incident during the holidays takes the cake for rude behavior. I was in the market for an archery target,but there were no prices on the shelf, and I wanted to purchase the right target for a compound bow. A floor employee asked if he could help me, and as we turned to head in the direction of my search, a male employee behind the counter interrupted our conversation, and asked if the fellow helping me, could help some people at the counter, because he was clocking out. The fellow helping me said "sure, as soon as I finish helping this lady". The employee behind the counter said, "well, these people are a priority", and I'm off the clock. I said " well, I guess I will just leave then". The employee behind the counter laughed, but the fellow waiting on me said, I will show you the targets mam. The 1 star is for the fellow with manners. The lack of 4 more stars is for continuous poor management of the fellows behind the counter in the gun department. I purchased at the Woodlands store, where the manager was at least trying to keep up with the busy Christmas season and all employees were polite. was doing a pickup with the store, arrived at 8:40 but my order was already ready so i thought it would go by fast. it hit 9 o'clock and i figured they were busy so i called and asked if they prefer i pick it up inside instead of them walking to my car and they said yes, didn't really mind i work retail and understand closing can be hectic and everyone wants to go home. so as i was walking the older gentleman with the face shield instead of a mask guarding the door , i told him "hi i spoke to someone on the phone-" he didn't let me finish instead of greeting or telling me where i needed to go he rudely pointed and grunted in the direction i was supposed to go. the employee that gave my my package was very kind. but the older gentleman guarding the door was unacceptable. i work retail and it's not excuse to treat customers like that. they need to train that in employee in customer service. read more
