Sitting here in the fitness area while the rest of fam is out looking for things they need. I am enjoying the cleanliness of this place. Poor customer service! I walked into the store for a pickup and Jacob was behind customer service booth and was pretty much hiding between the 2 monitors. No formal greeting or anything. Then pretty much ignored my reasoning for in there. It was initially a curbside but took too long. Products are still clutch as usual but this location could definitely improve on customer service. read more

First time back since last visit...spent $75-$80 on Astro T-shirt and baseball cap. Not much improvement...I walked in and first employee I see is on her phone at the service desk (square small area right inside past doors) so I said hello how are you as I walked by and she replied.. Customer should not have to make eye contact and great the employee...wow the mgr or asst should be fired along with the employee. I walked around to Astro gear area and never saw another employee, no one to ask me if I needed any help or if I was finding everything OK. I pick a few t-shirts and went to fitting room which also had no employee.. When I went to check out there was 1 cashier and a back up at the customer service desk. The cashier that helped me was friendly, greeted me and asked me how I was. She wished me a good rest of my day when I left. This employee was great..and should be acknowledged by the mgr. Not sure why but this location has terrible customer service? Not sure if it is an under staffed store? Or they just run a skeleton crew every day.. The Academy store at 21650 Kuykendahl has the worst service!!! They had only one cashier open with a long line waiting to be served, so we went to the Customer Service/Pick up were other people had lined up. When it was our turn, I politely asked if we could check out here (which others had already done). The disrespectful and entitled male employee behind the counter answered me "weeeeell, it's not how it's supposed to be" and the he continued to say "why are you above everyone else?" when my husband tried to explain the long line at the one and only open cashier. Have the staff learn some initiative and common courtesy to help and actually assist there customers! Example I am alone and picking up a small fire pit kind of big awkward two men working there stared and didn't do a thing as I proceeded to put it into the cart alone... in the process the box hits me in the side of my face. I was immediately greeted as I entered the store and every staff I encountered was friendly and welcoming. I had such a great experience working with Bob. He is really professional, knowledgeable, personable, and helpful. I can't say enough positive things about Bob. It was with his assistance that I was able to narrow down my options of a particular item and make my purchase. He never made me feel pressured to buy and he made it clear he wanted me to feel comfortable with my selection and to make the best decision for me. The item I ultimately purchased was on sale and was much cheaper than other stores I researched. This store has a huge selection of so many items and high quality products, as well. There is a huge parking lot, so parking is no issue at all. I have been to this particular location twice and each time I have felt welcomed there and have received good customer service. read more

Terrible customer service here. Came in last week, interested in purchasing a firearm, I had 3 employees look at me and walk away. I approached the manager about the issue and he chuckled at me as I advised he of the issue. Completely unprofessional on the manager part and the employees. I like this place. And here's a tip. Order what you are looking for online and then drive by and pick it up. It's quick and easy efficient. As I walked in I was greeted with a smile and a lady who wasn't even near customer service came up to me and asked how she could be of service. Terrible customer service. Returned merchandise to get a different size and no one at counter the woman greeting said a person would be there. Excellent new Academy in the Grand Parkway Marketplace. Easy to reach, plenty of parking and a very helpful staff. Stopped in recently looking for children's shoes. Hit the jackpot! A great pair of Nike athletic shoes for my grandson was on clearance and then half price off the lowest ticketed amount. Got a steal for $14.50! You can't beat that! Very nicely maintained and organized in much the same fashion as other Academy stores. Items were easy to find and very neatly arranged. Selection was extensive on many items. I will definitely be back. This is a much nicer store than other local Academy Sports + Outdoor locations. read more

Associate worker Taylor was wonderful! This employee knows where every item is located in the store. She answered all my questions regarding the firearms and was very informative on clearance items. Kid at register 5 on 1/22/21 around 12:15 assumed since I was buying Plano sportsman totes I was stealing so he made me open them all up and checked them. Since I grabbed them right from the shelve and put them in my cart it's extremely unprofessional to make me take all 4 from my cart and open them up to check if I'm stealing. I understand the hours of operation have been limited during these time even so I called before arriving fifteen minutes before the altered closing time and when I got there I was turned away by the manager. He said "we will be open again tomorrow" Really? You think I can't read? The sign says when y'all open and when y'all close and yet here i am before said closing time and I'm still being refused service. By far the worst customer experience I've ever had! I needed to get some information so I decided to give them a call the first time I went thru their automated phone options to the department I needed. The phone rang for about 10 minutes then the call got dropped or someone on the other end hung up. The second time I finally spoke to someone (in the wrong department) and asked to transfer to where I wish to connect to only to have the phone ring for 15 minutes and got disconnected again. Followed by the 3rd thru 5th time calling where it rang for 15 minutes and then got disconnected AGAIN! Come on academy get it together! I've worked in customer service areas where the rule is answer by the 3rd ring mainly because we want to keep our customers happy. I think you can find this a perfect example. read more

It's a shame that one employee can ruin the shopping experience for a customer. I informed the manager about the rude condescending employee; the other staff was polite and nice. However, as a business owner I must say that having this RUDE cashier continue employment here will continue to lose this company money, because there are other stores where I can go shop and drop some hard earned cash. Unfortunately, I did not catch her name, but I spoke to the manager about the incident involving her and I.
