This Academy is located in a small strip center off 45 N feeder road with a side road entrance next to a Wendy's. It's a tight turn to use side road so be careful for traffic exiting from Wendy's and Academy. You can also enter off the main road FM2920 I go here often and its never super busy but the staff is always friendly and very helpful. Today I needed a fishing license so I paid at register then went to customer service for another person to print out. Store is always clean and nice and stocked well. read more

I went to go buy a yeti lid, in the store, but there were none. I asked the lady there if they had any we looked and they couldn't find any. She called to the back and they also said they didn't have any in the store. When I went to the parking lot, I decided to see if they had any online and they did have some. I've came here a number of times... store is fine as far as appearence and inventory. However... frustratingly very slow to purchase things. Lines are extremly slow and registers are never really staffed even though I'll see an abundance of personnel walking around while many stand in line waiting. I simply don't get it. read more

I placed my order online to do a store pick up. My kids have been begging me for a pool and I gave in finally. I wanted a large pool, manageable, large enough for all of us to enjoy and affordable! After some searching for competitive pricing and making measurement decisions we went with the 12'x32" pool from Academy. After about an hour, my order was ready. I received both a text and an email notifying me that I can stop by the store and either do a store pick up or curbside and due to the current events curbside would ease my mind. I parked in a designated spot, clicked on the link provided by email to notify the store I was parked outside with my vehicle make and color then after a couple minutes later I see a friendly employee hauling my pool! My kids were ecstatic when he walked out with it, almost as we just witnessed a superhero without a cape. I opened my trunk so he could load it and then all he needed to do is come to my window and verify with my ID and sign. Store pick up is truly a life saver especially when the staff is friendly. While store packed to gills with products .. Where's the employees and customer service? Have gathered from many observations and experiences - stores are no longer in customer service nor do they employ sales people... Employees are shelf stockers and too busy trying to make the store look pretty vs assisting the customer... Ie - we asked employee about a particular elliptical trainer on their floor - he was eager - walked us back to item, re-read the display sign (that we read earlier) and afterwards said "i don't know, but you could find out online". HUH? 4 folks in line during a week day at the only open register waiting for cashier to finish up a lengthy purchase ...no one cared nor called for additional assistance (however the other 3 staff members up front piddled and avoided the obvious). We went to this location to purchase 1 item. No store associates asked if we needed help, no nothing . We get to the check out and after where hit up to apply for one of their store credit cards we were asked if they could inspect the item we were buying. They are aggressively using their lost prevention tactics to reduce theft and treating all customers as shoplifters. The kick out of this is the item we bought was sealed with glue from the manufacturer and no way we could have stuffed their overpriced merchandise into the box. The sales cashier could not even close the box correctly after she pulled everything out. This is not professional of a place of business. My boyfriend and I were passing through Houston on a road trip and stopped in the store to pick up some essentials. We wanted to check out some guns as we were shopping. The two associates working the counter this morning didn't acknowledge us as we stood there eagerly awaiting service. We stood at the counter for nearly 10 minutes without a single reassuring comment of "we'll be right with you". In fact, both associates kept assisting the person in front of us as if we were invisible. I do not recommend this location for gun-related purchases solely based on this unruly encounter. read more

Customer service at this location is horrible. I went there to purchase something that was in the online ad. After speaking with an associate they notified me that there were out of stock. I asked him to see if another store had inventory. He basically check his computer and told me that another store had 1 in stock. Before I could ask him to call the store and verify he walked away and proceeded to assist another customer. I asked to speak with a manager. This experience wasn't much better. After speaking with the employee that assisted me she informed me that he had done nothing wrong and that they had no inventory in the entire state. I went to the Academy in The Woodlands by the mall. They were awesome. Found what I was looking for at another store. Called and verified they actually had it. Awesome customer service. I'm done shopping at this Academy. There customer service needs serious improvement!! The management there needs to take some advice from the one in the Woodlands and West Road. read more

Are you young? A minority? Not dressed "middle class?" A combination of all of these? Well, don't come here, you will be profiled by Loss Prevention and other employees as they humiliate you into leaving the store due to assuming by your appearance that you are shoplifting. What was what a routine shopping trip with my spouse turned to shit as a once quiet isle / area in the back of the store by the camping section became alive with activity as employees began to suddenly "restock" and walk by the isles we were in while attempting to hide their long stares to see if we were shoplifting. Do yourself a favor and go to Dick's sporting goods or any other retailer than Academy for that matter. read more

Went in looking for a bedside weapon and being Christmas time the gun case was very busy, I did not have high expectations. The staff acknowledged me several times and stated "we will be right with you"... They worked methodically and efficiently with first in customers... Impressive. Tbh, in store location is nice, was able to get service. The problem is that I went on line for bowling shoes, and the web site indicated 2 hr pick up in store at this location. They promote that they will give ten percent discount to military or any person that works in the medical field. After calling to see if they had a specific knife in stock (Benchmade 556 Mini Griptilian). I was told by an associate at the store that they had "Many" in stock. This was after giving him the specific sku along with the item number. After driving across town to pick it up I was told "Oh we don't have it. I guess the guy didn't check." Awful customer service. Called on Saturday confirming inventory and hours. Clerk advised availability and store opening on Sunday @8:30. Arrived at 8:30 to find store closed. Called inside and clerk said the store opened at 9. The door said the store opened at 9:30 so I confirmed. I waited with5 other people standing out front; at 9 the manager Jorge came out and said the store opens at 9:30. I explained my encounter and his reply was this was his first day at this store and there was nothing he could do about it and walked away. AWFUL service from the clerks who didn't know the hours and Jorge the manager who didn't care about the misinformed people waiting outside. read more
