Very much a mixed bag. Great, friendly service. Open and bright and fun interior with some fun wall art. Fairly reasonable prices. My wife really enjoyed her grilled chicken salad entree. I agree it was good, and the portions generous (including the avocado, a favorite of ours). My chile relleno... was disappointing and downright odd, honestly. I know the pepper is supposed to be fried, and that's cool. But it was heavily breaded... and I mean, there was at least half an inch of BREAD around the whole pepper. Not what I wanted. At all. After removing the fried BREAD exterior, what appeared to be a massive chile... was kind of flat and small and pitiful. And the cheese filling was very minimal. So I was very disappointed. So the place has potential, but the chile relleno recipe needs a total redo. Also, the Jesus welcoming the Camp Mystic young girl campers picture in the entryway really rattled me. I know its intent was in the right place, but we were in town during the flood last year and our daughter was at another camp... and that picture was like a gut punch. Stopped by Acapulco's Mexican Restaurant while traveling for work. The vibe is a nice Tex-Mex atmosphere and we were seated immediately, even during the busy lunch rush. Service was quick, prompt and attentive, so i definitely appreciated that as I had limited time for lunch. I ordered the 2 beef fajita taco lunch special (7/10). The plate arrived fairly quickly and had good seasoned fajita beef with onions on a flour tortilla. A good portion of rice and beans were also included. The server even asked us if we wanted the green sauce which had a little more spice and it was a perfect addition to the meal. I would say I wished I had a little less onions and a few more strips of fajita beef with the meal. Family and I were in town taking care of business. We were given several suggestions for a meal, so we chose Acapulco. Saturday afternoon wasn't busy. Well, it actually looked like it had been busy with all the dirty tables when we walked it. During meal, they all were cleaned eventually. Good for them. I've heard Kerrville business have been slow since the flood in July. Service by Alicia was excellent. My Acapulco combo meal included enchilada & tamale con carne with rice, beans, crispy taco, queso, and guacamole. Chips were thin and crispy. Salsa had a little nice spice. Huge restaurant. We did the drive thru. I didn't get to see place inside. Just by the attention of the drive thru window was attentive and friendly and helpful. We asked how soft the Guisada meat was because I just had wisdom teeth pulled out and he brought me a small cup with few chunks to taste and that gesture and the meat tenderness and flavor deserved a 4 star so that is my opinion!!sorry no pictures because I was hungry and my friend had a chicken fajita that she said if she would it ask for corn tortillas she would it enjoy it better still she said chicken was good!! read more

This restaurant has been around for a long time. It's been remodeled and the ambiance is festive and fun! Recently started going for breakfast tacos. Which ends at 11am. I usually call my order in. However, my daughter was celebrating her birthday and we decided to sit and eat. They had mimosas! I ordered bacon bean and cheese tacos. I really enjoyed them. Food tasty. Staff kind, helpful; however when staff is continually dragging chairs/tables on hard floor surface the noise interferes mightily while dining. the people noise was just fine; everyone enjoying family, friends. we will not go back. there is no reason the staff cannot move the furniture by LIFTING. At our condo I lift diningroom chairs into position (I am 80). Also probably at Gibsons owner could purchase covers for wood feed or wheels. We went for lunch during the week and the lunch specials were an excellent price. The food tasted very good. I had the shredded chicken jalapeno cheese enchilada and a shredded chicken taco. The server was very friendly and joked with us. The interior was a little older looking but everything about the place is authentic. They also included tea or coffee with the lunch special. For Tex-Mex food, this place is pretty good. Some of the best Carne Guisada I've ever had. Dinner plates are a full meal, but Lunch specials are good buy, reasonable portions. Service has always been OK when their really busy, but very good during most times. The tables are spaced well, nice looking bar, and patio for outside. The Super great staff has started to know us by sight. We ordered the lunch special with two burritos topped with queso to split and it was delicious. Everything was flavorful, hot and fresh as always. The last couple of times they have very sweetly split the plate onto two smaller plates for us in the kitchen. Ive been coming here for many years! I have always enjoyed The americana tacos and because the open T 6:30 in the morning. Warning: The drive Thru is slow, But Thats because all tacos are made fresh to order. They are always steaming hot when you receive them. Their prices are fare and always had good service overall. read more

I recommend the chicken enchiladas with jalapeño sauce. Charro beans are alright, but not wonderful. Their cheese enchiladas with chili con carne are also very good. I didn't like the chili relleno at all. I absolutely LOVE their breakfast tacos and recommend any flavor; they are all delicious. You might think you need to order 2 if you are hungry, but you don't. These puppies are HUGE! Not sure why they don't call them breakfast burritos. The service is excellent-always. Friendly, helpful, smiling servers, hosts/hostesses and bussers. Nice, large dining areas with tables spread apart for more privacy and quiet. They do have large screen tvs with sports around the rooms, but not turned up too loud to disturb you. read more

Went there earlier this evening with a local church group because the local high school was having a fundraising night. The seniors were supposed to be acting as servers but we didn't see any students during our time anyway. The food....meh. I ordered the flautas (One beef and one chicken) and it wasn't what I think of when I thought of flautas. They looked like and had the texture of an egg roll. I have to give this gem 3 F's. Fresh, Fast and Friendly. Excellent breakfast today. Huevos a la Mexicana plate (not on the menu but they gladly made it), was very a large serving. We liked the hashbrown-esque potatoes and the beans are very good. Tortillas are really light and salsa was excellent. We also had pancakes and they arrived fluffy hot. Fun and colorful place. 3.5 is my score. I'd eat here again in a pinch but wouldn't be hankerin for it. My husband got carne quisada and it was flavorful enough and a good portion. I tasted it and the beef was tender! Huge bonus. I got puffy tacos and they were more like a gordita, heavy masa "shell" so it wasn't really a true thin/crispy puffy taco. They weren't fried enough and shaped by the chef to be eaten like a taco so they split completely in the fold when I picked them up. To be a good puffy taco they have to be handled and shaped when they're still warm. If I eat there again I may erase this and write a new review if I personally find something better. They must have other choices that are good because they were very busy. read more

Around 6 months ago they we serving good food, but recently we have noticed they are serving poor quality food. Their brisket has gotten so dry and less of a portion but as dry as it is you don't want a big portion anyway. The pollo burger may come with bacon and jack cheese other times no bacon and cheddar cheese. There really isn't any consistency in quality. You never know what you're going to get. Today I ordered the catfish plate to go, the catfish was three small skinny,rubbery strips was supposed to come with side salad and it wasn't in the bag, the rice was one side ordered and it wasn't in the bag. They chose to add the dry burnt fries. The charro beans which are usually the best was salted to the extreme. What a shame it was our go to place but they must have changed cooks and management because it's not the same quality. Often times the to go orders are incorrect. read more

Menu has changed, more Tex-Mex than Mexican. Menu & spices don't reflect their name. Servers are so so. Pricey in comparison to others.

Four dollars for a Mexican Coke is beyond ridiculous. Food as usual was great. I will not be ordering that anymore

Knowing this place is always packed no matter what time of day, I joined some friends at Acapulco. I'm very partial to restaurants that aren't a chain and are locally owned and operated. I know how difficult the restaurant business is from personal experience and try to cut them some slack. Sorry, can't do it this time. The tortilla chips were thin and crispy, the salsa was well-balanced with a bit of heat--so far, so good. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with chili con carne; it came with rice and refried beans. When my food came, the disappointment started. I tasted the rice and it was excellent; moist with just the right amount of spice. Then the beans; flavor from bacon was predominate. Don't get me wrong, I love bacon but I really would have liked to taste the beans. And looking at the beans, I saw the tell-tale signs of microwaving--a speckling over the surface. Seeing that, I had my doubts about the enchiladas. The chili con carne seemed to be merely enchilada sauce with a bit of ground beef added--basically flavorless. The waiter told me there were diced onions in the enchiladas--I counted 5 pieces. And the enchiladas themselves? Well, as you can see from the photograph, the cheese was not melted. (In case you're wondering where the other enchilada is, I moved it out of frame.) I called the server who looked and said, "The cheese should be melted," but made no attempt to correct the situation; he merely walked away. The cheese was warm and soft nonetheless and it was edible. The service was friendly but, as you may have guessed, was inefficient. Glasses were not refilled unless requested. The price was reasonable--$8.50--and the portions large. But with flavors being almost nonexistent, I won't be returning. read more
