    Having picnic in kerrville

Good tortilla soup here , wife like's older folks food, and this place draws in the older crowd (60+ older women) They have outdoor dining tables but usually it's just too hot or cold to eat outside! Soup and salad are usually what my wife likes

I stopped in on this hot afternoon for the first time with Thing Two after coming back from Rock Springs. This is a quaint little spot on corner of Water street and Earl Garrett Street in down-town Kerrville. The atmosphere inside and out side presents as mid to up- scale dining but the food here is simple, fresh and gives a unique perspective to Mexican Deli (yes, I just made that term up) cuisine. The food Talapia Tacos Thing Two ordered the lunch special which was Crispy Talapia Tacos adding a cup of Tortilla soup. The Talapia for the tacos was crisp and had a zing to the what is a less than top-shelf piece of fish. The fresh cabbage and Pico de Gallo that accompanied this entree was just right for a hot summer afternoon. Mexican Sandwich This is a fairly simple sandwich (turkey and cheese) with iceberg lettuce, guacamole and Pico de Gallo. This sandwich was light and had a nice offering of deli-cut turkey meat. Service The owner and the waiter were both warm and welcoming. I appreciate the Southern hospitality and charm shown on this visit. Overall, between the service, price point, and food, this spot is worth a return visit. #supportlocal

Friends took us here when we were visiting from out of town. It's decorated with some fun and funky art of different styles, something for everyone. The lunch menu has sandwiches and a few other options but the daily specials are fresh and interesting.

We did not eat here in 2021 because the tables are just too close together but now is fine. The food is great and so is the service.

I really enjoyed the onion rings which were sooo crispy and flavorful. There's a view of the airplane parking so you can see folks taking off and landing, which was fun.

After three visits, I kept hoping things would improve--but it feels like this place is leaning more on its location than the actual dining experience. First off, the setting is awesome. You're literally right on the ramp watching planes come and go--it's a great vibe and honestly the main reason to visit. But beyond that, things start to fall off. Each time I've been here, they've seemed understaffed. It's a seat-yourself setup, but even after sitting down, service can be pretty slow. On more than one visit, parts of the menu weren't available, and on my last trip, the kitchen wasn't even taking breakfast orders because they were too backed up. Food has been inconsistent: * Breakfast tacos were just okay * Eggs came out overcooked when ordered over-easy * Grits were watery * Bacon and sausage didn't taste fresh On the most recent visit, we had to switch to lunch. The burger was average, and the wrap was oddly put together--very thick but not well balanced. Also, the sweet potato tots we ordered were swapped out for fries. I really want to like this place because the location is genuinely special. But right now, it feels like a spot you go to for the view, not the food. With better service and more consistency in the kitchen, this could be a standout.

The French toast with strawberries was outstanding--perfectly golden, light and fluffy, topped with fresh strawberries that made every bite delicious. It was easily one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in a long time. The liver and onions were just as impressive. The liver was tender and cooked perfectly, and the caramelized onions brought everything together. It's a classic dish that's hard to find done well these days, and Union Station absolutely gets it right. Great food, generous portions, friendly service, and that genuine small-town charm make this place something special. If you're looking for a local spot that serves quality home-style cooking with people who make you feel welcome, Union Station is well worth the visit. I'll definitely be back!

From the nostalgic tributes to Blue Bell, our armed forces, and the railroad, it felt like stepping back into a patriotic 1940s diner. The warm atmosphere and hometown feel made the experience just as memorable as the food. If you're craving a classic, no-frills breakfast, you won't be disappointed. I ordered the eggs and pork chops. The pork chops could have used just a touch more salt for my taste, but with a light sprinkle at the table, they were absolutely delicious. My daughter ordered the short stack, and those pancakes completely blew us away. They were hands down some of the best pancakes we've ever had and officially earned this diner my new favorite breakfast spot. For those who aren't in the mood for breakfast, they also offer a generous selection of lunch options. My husband ordered the Reuben and thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall, Union Station Diner delivers everything you'd hope for in a small-town diner: welcoming hospitality, comforting food, and a nostalgic atmosphere that makes you want to come back again. If you're passing through, it's absolutely worth the stop.

What a pleasant roadside surprise we experienced at Route 35 Diner…read more On the way to a South Texas Ranch, a group of 7 of us met here to have lunch one Saturday morning. It's very easy to miss while traveling down IH-35 S, because by the time you see the sign "diner", you have passed it by. Although all 7 of us have been right by this place many times over the years, this was a first time experience for the group. In fact, we all failed to realize the diner was even here, as it is also overshadowed by the adjacent service station. The consensus was this was quite the unexpected surprise and each person gave a huge thumbs up for their own meal choice. Personally, I went with the poblano chicken and it was the best I've ever had, which is saying a lot. I believe I ordered this same dish dozens of times in a 60 mile radius and what set it apart was the tasty creamy sauce on top of a very flavorful chicken. The chicken was prepared differently and not the usual stringy stands of breast meat used in other local taquerias. The other dishes from the group were street tacos, shrimp quesadillas, fajitas and even a few with breakfast entrees. We all agreed this place is now on our radar and we are all coming back. A few of the waitstaff did not speak English, which was OK, because a few in our group grew up in Mexico, so the transition was easy. It also gave that authentic feeling that we are in the right place. But please don't let the language gap discourage you because the other helpers spoke English well enough for even the gringos in our group got what they wanted. So owners of this restaurant keep doing what you are doing and if you want to be busting from the seams with business, stick a huge sign in a strategic place and be prepared for more great reviews.
