We had lunch at Francisco's in historic downtown Kerrville the last time we were exploring the town, and had a great visit. The building itself was built in 1890 initially as a mercantile store, then cycled through a number of other businesses over the years until settling on Francisco's. Besides indoor tables, they also have a number of seating options outside on the sidewalk if the weather is agreeable. There isn't a river view, but it could be good people watching on a busy tourist day. The interior is a single space with high ceilings and tons of art on the walls. It's small but feels intimate not tight. I wouldn't call the place fine dining or upscale, but it's a step above casual. We were there for lunch and I felt fine in shorts and flip flops, but wonder if dinner is a different story. The lunch menu was mostly simple cafe sandwiches, salads, soups, and a couple different nachos/chips and salsa/chips and queso appetizer options. The Mexican food were primarily the daily specials the waitress rattled off for us. Speaking of, service was very friendly prompt, and helpful. Our waitress did a great job helping us figure out what we were in the mood for, offered substitutions and chatted us up on where we were from and what we were doing around town. Great staff. The food was amazing!!!! I mean amazing!!! I tried the sun dried tomato and basil pasta with shrimp. I took my first bite and all I could say was oh wow!!! That cream sauce was some of the best I have ever had! The shrimp were large and grilled perfectly! Hubby had the salmon special. Salmon was med rare with a lemon caper sauce. The veggies were nice and crisp, the rice was a perfect accompaniment. Our servers were very attentive and so talkative. Really enjoyed this place. Its small and elegant. My son and I love to try a new restaurant every time we go into Kerrville. Today we tried Francisco's in the historic downtown. Loved the old building and numerous paintings on the wall! We were attended to promptly and after reviewing the menu we placed our order. I ordered the Caesar salad with chicken and son ordered a ham and cheese sandwich. We watched some regulars come in and hug their favorite wait staffers (which seemed to be everyone on duty!) and check on other patrons to say hi before settling back at their table. The vibe was people on business lunches, retirees meeting up with friends, and a few tourists. I really loved the "homeyness" of watching everyone being familiar with the patrons and the overall friendly vibe. Our order arrived and I loved that the lettuce was cut into small bite size pieces rather than larger leaves which always look like someone grazing when eating off the fork. The bite size pieces were a nice surprise and also loved the grapefruit slice! I love grapefruit so this was so nice to see!! First bite was great! I tasted a hint of mustard in the dressing - not for sure if there was but it was a tangy change of the usual Caesar dressing. I liked it! I had as much as I could and my growing son finished it off for me after he finished his sandwich. I asked him about his sandwich and he said it was the best ham and cheese he's ever had! Hey...I said...what about mine!!?? Oh well. He loved the bread and the Swiss cheese. Different flavors for him and he approved. We didn't do dessert since we had shopping to do. We paid the bill and readied to leave. I noted to the lady group sitting next to us about one of the ladies purse. It was super cute and not the standard luxury fare. They were so friendly to my remark I swore if I commented more they would have told me to join them! Super friendly people, restaurant, and great food!! Nice lunch outing. Pleasant surroundings though live music just outside made it difficult to carry on a conversation at times. Service was busy but friendly and efficient. Food was quite good though chips were thicker than I prefer but salsa was excellent. Pricing was reasonable. Servings plentiful. Overall very good experience. read more

I stopped in on this hot afternoon for the first time with Thing Two after coming back from Rock Springs. This is a quaint little spot on corner of Water street and Earl Garrett Street in down-town Kerrville. The atmosphere inside and out side presents as mid to up- scale dining but the food here is simple, fresh and gives a unique perspective to Mexican Deli (yes, I just made that term up) cuisine. The food Talapia Tacos Thing Two ordered the lunch special which was Crispy Talapia Tacos adding a cup of Tortilla soup. The Talapia for the tacos was crisp and had a zing to the what is a less than top-shelf piece of fish. The fresh cabbage and Pico de Gallo that accompanied this entree was just right for a hot summer afternoon. Mexican Sandwich This is a fairly simple sandwich (turkey and cheese) with iceberg lettuce, guacamole and Pico de Gallo. This sandwich was light and had a nice offering of deli-cut turkey meat. Service The owner and the waiter were both warm and welcoming. I appreciate the Southern hospitality and charm shown on this visit. Our two previous visits were very pleasant. Tonight was not so great. The only reservation we could get was at 7:30, and they rushed us through dinner. My wife ordered a Tanqueray gin martini. They didn't have Tanqueray!! I ordered a Manhattan. I had to tell the server/bartender how to make it. And it was very small. We were then rushed to order our food, and rushed to close out the bill. I had a steak and didn't have time to take even one bite! Much less try the rest on the plate. They try to be a gourmet restaurant, but they come off as a hick town cafe. read more

Went to lunch at Francisco's on Valentine's Day with a girlfriend. It was my first visit to Kerrville in years, and I'm probably going to remember Francisco's as the highlight of my trip! Absolutely loved the food, loved the build-out and ambience of the restaurant itself and loved the wonderful server! We both decided to try the daily special, which was Enchiladas Verdes and they were possibly the best I've ever had! (Great tomatillo sauce I could have licked it off my plate!) I also noticed a lot of people had a unique looking dish so I ordered it à la cart just to see what it was like. I believe it was called Vera Cruz something... It was frankly, one of the weirdest concoctions I've ever had, and at the same time it was wonderful! It was spicy chicken salad, seasoned with who knows what, served on a crispy chalupa shell, and topped with guacamole and grated cheese. I'd definitely go out on a limb again for that! 2 of us for lunch $24 for a plain white bread sandwich and a cold chicken salad plate. Both of us commented that is "was ordinary" "no love in the mix" And then on top of that a $1 charge on the bill for the please of paying my bill. Kerrville, TX I never knew Kerrville had such wonderful restaurants. On a recent trip we stopped in to Francisco's. What a treat. From the cloth covered tables with cute flower arrangements we could see this owner went the extra mile to offer a great dining experience. On top of that the staff was very friendly. We need Paco back. We have never had a bad meal at Fransico's's until tonight. I think the new owners need to get Paco to come help them with the old recipes. My husband ordered the steak and it was the worst steak he's ever had. I ordered the salmon as per usual, and it was very very dry. The zucchini was over cooked and soggy. We told our server that the steak was tough and inedible, and we returned more than half of it. The server said he would let them know, but it was still left on our bill. Not sure when we'll be back. Perhaps if the kinks get worked out. read more

If you're looking for a cute and delicious lunch, look no further! We sat outside and it was great. Food was a good portion and tasty. The chicken tortilla soup has mild spice and everything is cut to bite size, which is how soups should be. The tuna and chicken salad sandwiches are made to perfection. The bread is thin enough so you actually get to taste the sandwich. They put the perfecTortilla Soupt amount of Mayo in them as well so you taste the chicken or tuna!
