My daughter transferred from Peninsula Gymnastics to Accel 5 months ago and has absolutely loved being here. The competitive program is outstanding and our coaches are highly skilled, caring and provide individualized attention to help each gymnast reach their full potential. Accel Gymnastics is fantastic! My daughters (5 and 4 years old) have been going to Accel for the past 6 months and they love it. Accel does a tremendous job of establishing foundational skills while also ensuring the kids are having fun. I really appreciate the instructor to kid ratio as it ensures that my kids never feel forgotten. I've also observed substantial improvement in my daughters' flexibility, balance, and confidence. Accel also recently remodeled/rearranged the gym and everything looks top tier. There are plenty of places to choose from for kids gymnastics, but I highly recommend trying out Accel! read more

I unfortunately never did gymnastics as a child, even though I really wanted to. My toddler, like any other toddler, loves doing flips and alll the things so I wanted to enroll her in Accel to get some proper guidance. They do offer a trial class, so definitely do that before committing to their monthly plan. For 3 year olds at least, you have the option to do a mommy and me class, or have them participate by themselves. I wanted my little one to do it by herself to gain that sense of independence.... Well, my little one takes a *long* time to warm up to people she doesn't know. The entire class, she was too afraid of going anywhere near the class, let alone actually participate in it. I decided that she maybe needed another session to warm up. It was SLIGHTLY better, but still she didn't listen to the teachers. At least for us, I may just come back when she's a little older and is more comfortable with the entire situation. Now, I think part of the reason is the teachers. If you've read other reviews, then you'll see that they have high school or possssibly college aged people as the instructors. This mostly means they don't know how to interact with kids, unlike actual trained teachers. It's obvious in the way they talk and interact with them. I will say it probably is a bit hard for them, since there are at least five kids in the class and they have to watch everyone. Nonetheless, at the 3-5 age range, the kids are not really learning the gymnastics moves yet. If you're considering taking your toddler at this stage, you know it's more as an introduction//activity during the week. The other thing I noticed is the lack of transparency of the cost. The membership fee is not listed on the website - even after I signed up, I STILL was not 100% sure what the cost was (yes I could have asked the person at the desk... I just forgot). Still, you would think it's easier to find out that info. I also emailed them, and still have yet to hear a response months later. read more

My daughter does not go to the gym for classes, but we did her birthday party there recently. VERY well run and great space for a party. The mat area had plenty of space for 30 kids and a good seating area for all the parents. The party room is HUGE and fit all the kids and parents with space left over. The instructors had the kids laughing and very engaged. Can't speak to the classes, but highly recommend for a birthday party! read more

Terrible experience with trial class. My 9 year old daughter wanted to try gymnastics, but she was also very nervous about standing out and not being able to do what the other kids can. We decided to do a trial class at Accel, and when we finally got her to get out and join the class, we quickly realized this was a mistake. The class was huge, which could have been fine, but the teachers all seemed pretty indifferent and they don't pay any extra attention or give any intro/instruction or welcome to new students. They don't even seem to notice that there *are* new students. They're just thrown in. My daughter was just kind of standing there not knowing how to do something, and was given no extra help. They didn't even notice. The whole thing was chaotic and weird, and truly unwelcoming. We left early. read more

A lot left to be desired here. My four years old loves gymnastics/tumbling/jumping. Unfortunately I have yet to see any continuity in the class structure and the teachers. The lack of safety is also a concern as many of the young "teachers" just stand around and watch and not lead, instruct or help when there are children clearly struggling. I don't expect a recreational class for toddlers to be rigorous like professional gymnastics but I do expect my child to learn, feel safe and that is not something I witness here often. Communication is also poor around calendaring and also last minute and zero understanding of your child is ready to move to the next level. I giving 3 stars as there ARE strong "coaches" and "teachers". I just wish it wasn't hit or miss. read more

If I had two words to describe this place: unsafe and unprofessional. I had high hopes for Accel Gymnastics, but our experience in the developmental program was far from positive. My daughter never had the same instructor for more than two weeks in a row, which made it difficult for her to build trust and consistency in her training. The lack of continuity in coaching felt incredibly unorganized and unprofessional. On top of that, the class sizes were far too large to be safe or effective. It was clear that the staff was overwhelmed, and this created an environment that didn't feel secure for the students. For a sport that requires such focus on technique and safety, this was deeply concerning. The professionalism of the staff also left much to be desired. Communication was poor, and it often felt like they were more focused on packing the schedule than providing quality instruction. I cannot recommend Accel Gymnastics based on our experience. I hope they address these issues for the sake of their students and families. read more

My child has been attending classes for a year at this location, it's been far from positive Most of the staff high school gymnasts giving their time to teach. This is reflected in the lack of instruction, curriculum and guidance. The "office" is full of teenage "instructors" hanging out or on their phones. I don't think I've seen an adult there. The classes are back to back, the teenage instructors don't really care to speak to parents or actually grow the student. Do they do gymnastics? Sure. But it's more drip off play time and no leveling or working towards milestones. As we neared a year, we asked multiple times about testing and gaps in skills to get to the next level. After weeks of constantly asking, we're told they'll follow up. Still nothing. They also don't have to communicate over the phone. And you can't find anyone in person. I was having trouble signing up and asked if someone please call me and Jessica (the person who usually replies to emails) said she wouldn't call and can only assist over email. So 13 back and forth emails later, I finally figured out how to sign up. I should've taken that as a red flag. I do not recommend. read more

We had high hopes when my daughter started here. However we haven't seen any improvements due to unprofessional staff, and management. There is no way to reach anyone , they wont answer the phones, barely reply emails, no progress report whatsoever. I wanted to like this place. They have a huge facility but I think their focus is on training kids who have a lot of natural ability and may potentially have a future in competition and not necessarily helping other kids learn gymnastics. The youth classes are run by high school students who for the most part seem less than interested in providing real instruction to the students. On numerous occasions I've witnessed the instructors on their cell phones rather than keeping an eye on the students. For the amount of money this place is raking in with the back to back overcrowded classes- you'd think they could pay their instructors enough to at least care about what they're doing or at least step in to instruct the students if they are doing something incorrectly or in a way that's not safe. read more

This review is based on their summer camp. We signed up for Aloha week. Their "crafts" aren't that great (see photo, there were also some coloring pages available for kids) -- the schedule is 9-1 and from what my kiddo reports, it's mostly just giving the kids free time to play in their facility. The "camp counselors" are basically high school/college kids. Not sure how much they're teaching the kids on proper form. It's a good option for my kiddo to get her energy out but definitely isn't my first choice for summer camp. Lots of other camps are 9-3 and there are more activities planned for the campers. read more

My daughter went to a bday party here and from what my husband reports, it was hot as hell (no ac?) and didn't give us the sense that it was the cleanest... not what you want to hear when half your friends have kids shaking off childhood diseases. (Shower as soon as you get home with extra soap? Yappppp). My husband thought the facility didn't look much like a party event space but I do see here that it's used for this purpose frequently. As a parent of a toddler you probably won't get too much out of this, events here might be fine for older tots. Good luck if your party / class is happening over the summer because apparently the temperature in there was less than forgiving and this is not going to be the only 90 degree day this year. read more

This is my daughter's first gymnastics class. She was scared at first but with the teacher's professionalism, patience and encouragement, she was able to overcome some of her fears. I never give 1 star ratings, but this place deserved it. Just like a lot of others I got groupons for this place for my kids. I agree that the front desk greeting is very rude and condescending. But forget that. Place smells like dirty socks, barely any sitting area for parents to watch. So chaotic. So basically all these free trials and groupon people they don't care much about, they toss them all in this basic trial class being taught by a young gymnast, not a trained seasoned coach, maybe a hs student. ZERO TRAINING, ZERO DEMO, just run laps and go tumble and beginner kids were all doing it wrong, using their head to support the flip and their weight. Neck is the most dangerous part to injure, it's unbelievable that they don't start by EXPLAINING HOW TO balance yourself and where to put your hands and your head and to not let your hands go, etc. We were watching my kids along with another mom whose daughter was also there for the first time and were in complete shock. To the point that I asked the girl conducting the class to spend more time w/ the beginners and support their necks, etc. After the class I received a phone call from them asking about an incident they heard from "another parent" (the parent who was also nervous for her child yeah right) that SOMEONE was rude and stopped the class and was rude to the instructor. Ok if you're calling me, you know it's me and I was not rude one bit. I was a concerned parent who was either going to pull my kids out of that place OR make sure they get the proper level of attention. There were only 5 kids, not a class of 20. Extremely rude phone call. I immediately called back and left a VM and that pleasant receptionist has not called back and then I wrote a very pissed off email to them for this entire experience, you know why? WE did a FREE TRIAL that day, my groupon wasn't going to go in effect til NEXT week, but she grabbed my phone when I mentioned I have groupons for next month and she marked them as REDEEMED!!! Why would you redeem during a FREE TRIAL? Thank God, Groupon is awesome and they reversed the charges and let me trade this in, but guess what? They never even emailed me back! And for how you treated me and for redeeming my grupon wrongly and for that fake phone call and for not replying to me, i took the time to write this very honest review! My 3 year old kid tried their gym class, but the place was too crowed and chaotic. Without any introduction, the class just started and my kid got so overwhelmed that she didn't want to participate. I understand they have the class routines to follow up, but none of the teachers tried to encourage her or anything. Only one staff at the front was busy talking on the phone. I didn't want to bother to question about the classes any more. read more

My family had an awful experience with Accel. We have had out two boys there since July 2012 and have really tried to make it work, by sharing our concerns and providing feedback, but unfortunately no one seems to care and I got tired of watching my son be mistreated. Their preschool teachers should not be allowed to work with kids. They are negligible, completely inattentive, and have no idea how to engage kids in the activities. Most of the time the teachers spend standing, talking to each other, playing with their hair or looking at their phones. Its quite awful and frankly at times dangerous to see them pay so little attention to the kids. To make things worse, at one point, we were told that our 3 year old son was not keeping up with his preschool gymnastics class and should instead be with the 2 year old class. Granted, I know i don't exactly have an Olympic gymnast on my hands, I still think its unacceptable to effectively "kick out" a 3-year-old from a preschool level gymnastics class. There are some good teachers at this place like Bethany and Sam, but they could not address our concerns with the preschool program. I'm extremely disappointed that I have to resort to writing this scathing review, but I want to save other parents the heartache of watching their children be mistreated. read more

Be very careful with these people. One Kim told me to sign up or lose my spot. She never mentioned that there was no cooling off period. Within 24 hours after signing up (and not taking any service from them), we figured we didn't want it. The lady at the front desk was willing to return the 80$ monthly fee but not the 50$ member ship fee. Why? Because they pay this to an insurance company. How come my car insurance company will return the unused amount but not them? By this time, the lady had lost her patience. She told me that I had signed papers and how she will take me to small claims court if I even as much talked about this to anybody else. Conclusion: If you have money, they are well and nice. Otherwise, a used kleenex gets better treatment than a customer. Repeat business? What is that? read more

Our daughter was at Accel for more than three years on the competitive track. Thought I would share our experiences with Yelpers as I don't feel many of the reviews are fair..... 1. Financial:  While we were on the "Team" and competing we met parents with children at a number of other gyms and Accel is spot on market rate.  Not too high, not too low and considering the stellar equipment I'd say its a more than fare cost.  So when you are on the team you pay a monthly fee and then a team fee.  but both work out to be fair considering the time the coaches put into each meet.  They spend their weekend there some times.....  I've never had  an issue with over charging on my auto pay.  I'm a auto-pay-aholic.  But I do request an annual summary of charges from each auto-pay-account that I have in place and Accel has been accurate to the penny.  So I don't know what the other yelpers are complaining about. 2. Facility:  They recently completed a renovation.  The gym is huge now.  Our daughter loved it.   Plenty of space for boys, girls, dev, etc. all at once.  We bump into parents of newbies all the time while the entire team is training.  How great is that!?    Our daughter and our friends kids love to see friends from school join the gym and waive as they run by.  An added bonus to a large gym is you don't have that horrible old socks smell.  Accell is always clean, organized, and professional looking to me. On that note, I met the janitor the other day.  Great guy and I thanked him for keeping the gym clean.   3. Customer service: Yelpers, please keep in mind that this is a large gym.   I don't know the actual numbers but I do know there are 35+ gymnasts on the girls team, they have a boys team, and they have tons of beginner classes going on all he time.   The owner (though I think there are two of them) is only one person.  Some yelpers seem to think they deserve a personal response from the owner for every little issue or complaint they have.  Really?  We've had our fair share of questions, concerns, etc. about our kids and the program and we've always managed to get the respond we needed and wanted in a reasonable amount of time.  Mostly by working with our daughter's coaches (makes sense huh?).  But we've met with the owner a few times as well.   4.  Coaches:  Again, not sure where other people are looking to find coaches that "don't pay attention" or "always looking at their phones."  Really?  We've worked with over seven of the coaches at Accell and NEVER had an issue.  They are super attentive and very concerned about their gymnasts safety.  I never see them looking at their phones.  Only correcting gymnasts and organizing the troops.  :) As I yelped before, I think they still offer a free lesson to gauge your child and make a recommendation where he/she fits in the program.  They do have a strong team and development program if that's what you are into.  They also have a very strong Excel program for girls (and maybe boys but I'm not sure on this one) who want to train a bit less but still enjoy the thrill of competition.   And they have tons of Rec classes.   Due to reasons out of our control we had to switch gyms. But if things change we'll return to Accel without hesitation. read more

We've been at Accel for over a year now--our longest run at a gym. We left Goldstar Gymnastics in Mountain View, as our instructor was a brilliant rhythmic gymnast, but a less-than-stellar teacher. She'd teach 36 counts of a routine at a time (to beginners) and never taught the gymnastics part, so when she included a cartwheel in the routine, my poor daughter just threw herself onto the ground in a heap, not knowing what else to do. It was a huge waste of time and money and turned my daughter off to gymnastics pretty quickly. We started at Accel with my 3 y/o in the Preschool Gymnastics class on Tuesday mornings. We were the only class in the gym at the time, so it was quiet and enjoyable for both of us. There was free wifi which allowed me to catch up on some work while my daughter learned. Whether impersonating animals or rocket ships, all exercises and skills are presented in a way little kids can understand. There's a space just for preschoolers, which includes an obstacle course, age-appropriate balance beams and bar, foam pit and now a tumble track of their very own! The class sizes have ranged from 3-6 in this class, which is unheard of at other packed-to-the-gills studios with consistently maxed out classes of 10 students. They recently implemented a little bit of an academic touch to the program w/ a letter and color of the month, which includes a coloring sheet and 1 week where students dress up according to a certain theme. (My daughter kinda misses this in her new class.) Later we moved up to Mighty Mights when the teacher realized my daughter needed a bit more of a challenge and she's very happy there, getting a chance to rotate through to to the slightly more advanced area and apparatus. My 7 year old joined Ballet Basics and, more often than not, was the only student in class. She LOVED getting a 1:1 lesson. Sadly, we're going to have to withdraw and move to a formal ballet studio, as the ballet class offerings are limited and none fit with our current school schedule :( After having such a miserable time at Gold Star, I was pleased to see her come away from each ballet class with more grace, poise and confidence than she had when she entered. All-in-all, we're thrilled with the: -spaciousness of the gym--there are rooms for all levels of gymnasts so you never feel crowded or too distracted (except by the excessively noisy people in the viewing area, which I'd like to see changed.) - new parking lot--after school, it is packed, but since many parents do drop-offs, a spot will open rather quickly. -SOME of the seating/viewing--The quiet upstairs viewing area is great. Comfy seats where I can work or nurse my baby, while still taking a peek at my daughter...as long as it's not summer camp time when the spots are taken up by children. The main bleacher seating area NEEDS some cushioning! -most of the teachers are very energetic and pay careful attention to the kids. We had one who was not as patient with the children, but all of the others have been very sweet and even responsive to my daughter wanting to learn more advanced skills. When we first started, we had a boy with Autism in our class and his teachers worked brilliantly with him. That was awesome to see. -the front desk staff is very friendly and VERY flexible in scheduling make-ups, should we be on vacation, or have an illness in the family. I refuse to attend studios that allow for no make-ups. At $20ish/class, I would've dragged my kids to gymnastics while in labor, if I had to, but Accel's flexibility allows us to miss 1x/month, and easily fit in to another day to make it up. I really appreciate that, though I know it must be quite high maintenance for the front desk staff. -equipment and space--each area is seamlessly rotated through by the various groups. No waiting or conflict. There are always improvements being made to the gym, which only add to its benefits. The fact that there are so many different rooms mean all skills levels have their own place to learn. -class size--I never see more than 6 kids in each class. This is unheard of elsewhere. This is the #1 reason we kept coming after our 8-class coupon ran out. I'm looking forward to improvements to the performance the kids do in the summer. (We spent $50 to sit behind so many people that I never got to see my daughter do her routine.) The concept was fantastic, but the execution fell short, unfortunately. That said, the staff at Accel are always striving to improve upon the existing program, so I see great things for next year's showcase! We drive from Menlo Park in rush hour traffic these days, just to come to Accel and while we'd love a 10-minute jaunt down the street to gymnastics (especially with a new baby who cries the whole way), the great program, small class size, positive staff, class flexibility, opportunity to advance and spacious, ever-improving facility at Accel keeps us coming back for more! read more

After a very frustrating search (including the two big gyms in San Mateo and Belmont), my daughter and I were relieved and excited to find a great place! The staff is friendly and helpful, the gym is not overcrowded, and the coaches are great with both the recreational and developmental classes. What really set Accel apart was the fact that 1) they worked hard to place my daughter in the right class and 2) in all the classes I've observed, the coaches are focused and challenge the gymnasts - even in the recreational classes. We were very disappointed with our experience at Accel. We were there for a "camp" day when the schools were closed for Columbus Day. The staff was clearly overwhelmed. My husband forgot to drop snack and lunch for our 5-yr-olds... even though my daughter told the owner that she didn't have a snack, they didn't call us. The owner says that she "forgot." The girls sat through lunch with no food - and no one seemed to notice. Luckily my husband remembered at 1pm and rushed over to bring the food. The worst part was that my daughter got hurt duing the day. She told her instructor - but no one gave her any ice. It turns out, her toe was broken and now she has an orthopedic shoe for 4 weeks! I found this place to be unprofessional and not very safe. Who lets 5-yr-old go through snack time AND lunch time without noticing that they don't have any food? Explanations were essentially, "my bad." read more

My 7 year old girl loves this gymnastics school. They offer a variety of different class schedule and different levels. One thing I like about the school is the spacious waiting area for parents to do some work there and they've got wifi too. This place is huge with several areas to run different classes. Teachers seem to be nice and professional. The demo performance at the end of the school year was fantastic. read more

I was told by Kim to email the owner regarding my refund that I've been waiting for more than one month now and still not getting any response, I emailed 3 times already and still did not hear from who ever is the owner,he or she should not running a business if they don't know how to deal with costumers. Friendly advice don't make payments quarterly just do it monthly so that if you have to cancel your membership you dont have to deal with headache like me. read more

Gosh, I am surprised by all the negative reviews. My daughter has been doing gymnastics here for the past 9 months. We previously did gymnastics in Boston and then in the South Bay when we first moved to CA. When we moved to San Mateo in May we decided to try out Accel. My daughter was initially in the preschool class with teacher Madison and had a great time. She was recently moved up to the Mighty Mights class with teacher Amanda and is very happy in this class as well. My daughter also attended two weeks of summer camp as well and loved it. She made friends with a couple older girls and begged me to pick her up late every day. We already signed her up for 4 weeks this summer. My two year old is also in the toddler class with Tiphanie. He took a brief break for a couple months mainly because he was going through a bad case of the terrible twos and didn't want to cooperate during class. The break was my decision, not the gyms and once my son decided he wanted to try it again, we did a trial class and then signed him back up again. He is doing much better this time around! With regard to other complaints about the viewing areas: the downstairs area was just renovated over Christmas break and is much better. Of course it is very crazy after school, but it is that way at most places during that time. The parking situation isn't terrible. I usually find parking on the street if I don't get to class early. I've never not found parking. And I have never had an issue with the front desk staff. True they might be friendlier during the day classes, but it can be crazy busy in the evening so I understand. I would recommend this gym to others! read more

We recently got a group on and took our daughter to Foster City. While she enjoys the class.. it is the same thing week after week... the same thing. The teachers are not encouraging kids to participate nor are they inviting at all. They do not make things exciting and enticing for the children to want to join in. The service is pretty terrible at that.. we have 14 year old kids running the classes.. in charge of safety with no supervision? There are also kids in the older classes that just run around crazy and take over the tramps while the toddlers are on them. The 14 year old teachers are just watching and have no authority to say anything, they just WATCH. We will not go back to Accel and I am extremely disappointed that I even bought the group on. I absolutely do NOT recommend this place to anyone. When we joined this club -more than six months ago- I thought this was a serious, safe, clean and trustworthy gymnastics club, but it turned out to be just a mish-mash business in order ot soak up money. They are trying to compete with the other bigger gymnastic clubs in the Bay area, but they are totally disorganized. And the place is DIRTY. A lot of classes start at the same time, so it is always CHAOTIC, full of kids, full of parents. In all, this facility is very poorly designed. I felt that they try to fill in as many kids as possible in their classes. Also, their camps are a disorganized unsafe chaos. What you will read on their website : -"The safest and cleanest facility": wrong: their facility is dirty, it does smells bad and stuffy. Tthe bathrooms have ALWAYS been FILTHY (papers all over the floor, full garbage, dirty floor, backed up sinks, smelly , seat covers too high for little gymnasts to reach). The cubby area is dirty, tiny, and messy. The kids have not enough room to move around, get dressed/undressed/find an available cubby to get ready to start their class. They can't even sit down to put on their shoes because the few chairs are always taken by parents. -"A LOT of on-site parking spaces": wrong- their parking lot used to offer many spaces. but now that they're renting one area to basketball practice , the lot is always full, and watch out for those kids running around without paying attention to cars. -"Professional and experienced coaching staff": they've hired some high-school kids for the recreational classes- I wonder how much experience with sports and/or children interaction these young people have. And it is true that some teachers spend their time chatting with each other, playing with their hair or phone. "Fun center coming soon" : we are still waiting for that one! It's been months and months. They have a birthday room upstairs , which is devoid of tables. only a couple of chairs. Siblings and the like are not able to either do homework, read, draw. -"Our office staff is friendly and helpful": Wrong- the front desk lady Kim, can be rude and moody. Like other reviewers experienced with her, she explained to me one thing, and the opposite thing the following week. She is messy, too busy (they hired a second secretary), and she never raises her eyes when people come in or out. Definitely not an outstanding customer service. -" Huge viewing area for parents (upstairs)": that viewing area looks pathetic as many parents try to squeeze in front of the window to try to watch their child. they've been saying and placarding that they are in process of renovation. It's been months and months, and nothing is improving. Their bathrooms are always FILTHY. Accel is just not different , like they stipulate. I love this place! It is roomy and spacious. The crew here is very attentive and professional. You will not be disappointed in the level of commitment and service. I still prefer Gymtowne in SSF, but if you are shopping for a quality facility, you should look here as well. read more

Completed 4 sessions of Girls "Basics". My daughter loves it and wants to continue- as she is very eager to learn. As a parent- I'm not too excited. The instructor appears very bored and disinterested- often just walking around twirling her pen and moving the kids through the routine (this didn't bother my child- she likes her). Watching the instructors- they do not appear to "spot" the kids well- seems like injury rate could be high. It is crowded ~5pm- space can be limited and sometimes the kids have to wait around. Will look around at other options in the area- but as this location is very convenient- may give it another go with a few more sessions- possibly another instructor. read more

Was introduced to Accel gymnastics thru a JuiceintheCity promo & absolutely love the place. Ended up attending extra weeks of summer camp & bringing a girlfriends daughter too. The staff, especially Kim, had great customer service & i am pretty picky. My kids loved every minute & learned some gymnastics. Facility was clean, colorful, & safe. Highly recommend. read more

My daugher (5yrs old) took gymnastics class here. She enjoyed her class and her teacher very much. The gymnatic program seems organized. When we went, they were in the midst of doing a lot of upgrading and remodeling, which I assume once all complete, would make the facility even better. read more
