She listened to my heart (with a stethoscope - I didn't think doctors did that anymore!) and also offered that they do an EKG (which the nurse/assistant did - she was also very good). She took the time to explain what I might possibly have and what my next steps should be. I got the feeling that she cared, both in developing her diagnosis and her advice. Avoid Access Medical Center - Unacceptable Care and Operations I've been going to Access Medical Center for about a year, hoping the care would improve -- but it hasn't. My latest visit made it clear this place is a mess. When I saw the nurse practitioner, she barely assessed me and simply asked, "What antibiotics do you want?" If I knew that, I wouldn't be here. It was clear they just wanted to push me through and move on. Be prepared to wait. And wait. I've waited over an hour every time -- often two or three hours -- just to be brought back, then another 30-40 minutes to actually see someone. No updates, no apologies, just silence. The front staff either can't or won't give accurate time estimates. When I walked in, they looked at me, finished their gossip session, and made no effort to be professional. Once I finally got my prescriptions, they sent them to the wrong pharmacy, even though I clearly stated where both should go. I had to fix the error, which took even more time out of my day. I was told once that there was "no wait." I showed up, was put in a room, and then left there for two full hours with no communication. This happened more than once. The staff regularly make errors in my file -- wrong birthdate, wrong phone number. They even called my emergency contact for a non-emergency issue, and when I asked why, they blamed it on a "wrong zip code." This makes no sense since they called me at my correct number just the week before. My emergency contact told me they could hear giggling in the background during the call -- it was not a serious or respectful interaction. These people act as if nothing bad will ever happen to them, no matter how they treat their patients -- and maybe they're right. But it's wrong. Totally unprofessional. The entire experience is chaotic, disrespectful, and completely substandard. The care is unreliable, the wait times are excessive, and the staff is untrained, distracted, and rude. read more

I waited 2 hours just to be brought back. Then waited another 30-40 min once I was brought back, to be treated. Once I got my prescriptions for my illness, they sent one to the wrong pharmacy (specifically told them which one to send it to before leaving) and one to the right pharmacy. How does that even happen? Had to go back into the office to correct the issue which took even more time out of my day. In addition, the staff members were yelling back and forth to communicate with each other; I am not exaggerating when I say yell. In addition, they blast music from over-head speakers. I already had a pounding headache, which is part of the reason of why I was being seen, so this was extremely discomforting. I'm really disappointed to be honest. Waited 90 minutes for Urgent Care. They have one NP on staff Thursday before noon. They're also seeing scheduled patients. Where were they going to fit me in? Don't know. Walked out without being seen. It's unkempt. It's loud. It's cramped. And you literally could wait for hours to be seen - when you're already not feeling well? JUST NO! Very pleasant experience here. Not sure why so many negative reviews. Came here one day with a family member for a health issue and only waited 45min to be seen. Not too bad. The front desk staff was pleasant and helpful. We saw a nurse practitioner instead of a doctor and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. Did a thorough exam and provided medications for the patient. The waiting room is a bit small and could use a deep cleaning. Otherwise a good experience. read more

I wanted to give a shout-out for the excellent urgent care I received today. I was seen by Heather Moore after about a 20 minute wait. I believe she is a Nurse Practitioner. Alosina took my vitals and I felt totally heard by everyone that worked with me including the people at the desk Brendan and Christina. I had X-rays taken at the imaging center next door and they were read immediately by Heather Moore. I have never given a bad review but feel compelled to warn people. We came here thinking it was part of Scripps and out of pure desperation. It is NOT part of Scripps even though it certainly looks like it since Scripps is next door and connected. Waited over 2.5 hrs + another hour in the room only to be seen by a nurse - not a doctor. She immediately wanted to prescribe an aggressive medication without making sure it was the proper diagnosis. Horrible and will never come here again. This place has gone completely downhill. I have been there several times since my first visit typcially for acute care but since they advertise themselves as a primary care office, I figured I would return since they had some kind of history on me and I really didn't want to start with a new facility. I won't be returning nor will I recommend it. They do offer urgent care services, but they are also a regular primary care practice- or so I thought. Where to begin? 1. I called to make an appointment for a yearly physical with a women's health check. I confirmed they could do this since they aren't a gynecology office. The receptionist confirmed they could and even told me to plan on a 30 minute appointment. 2. When I arrived, they were running 'slightly behind'. Ok, so I sat and waited. 3. The MA (Cassandra) called me back, seemed very confused as to why I was there since they were an 'urgent care' facility. I explained to her that I confirmed with the receptionist that the office does offer the services I needed...and the conversation became very circular... MA: "Well, we do offer it, but we're an urgent care facility" Me: "Really? Look at that sign. You're also a primary care facility" MA: "We bill as a primary care facility but we're an urgent care facility" Me: "Can your PA/NP do the perform the type of exam I'm looking for?" MA: "She's new, but we're an urgent care facility. We typically don't do these exams since we're an urgent care center" Ultimately, I confirmed with the PA/NP was able to do the type of appointment, but not without the MA reminding me EVERY STEP OF THE WAY that my exam wasn't typical of their office. Listen, I get that but if you can't do it, don't do it. You're not instilling any confidence if me. The NP came in and was pleasant, but more miscommunication ensued and I did not receive the full exam that I initially made my appointment for. The MA kept interrupting the NP/PA during the exam and even offered medical advice. MA's offer a very important support role..and offering medical advice isn't part of that role. I'm still so annoyed. This is directly from their website regarding the services they offer: Annual physicals with all the screenings necessary for lasting health Well-woman care It was not a full physical, it was just a women's health checkup with bloodwork and yearly radiology requests. I've always had a good experience here. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait for walk in people but that hasn't been too long of a wait. When I had covid, they took med right in. I went back to get a negative test in 10 days and they noticed my lungs sounded rough. I was sent next door for a chest Xray, which was convent and quick. I had pneumonia so they gave me the treatment drugs. I was in and out of all that in about 90 minutes. read more

I have had serious health problems after a 60 day hospital stay at Scripps Encinitas 3 years ago. I was in an induced coma for 30 days after a routine tooth extraction because I was severely septic. So, I have been here twice - once with my Mom for a regular appointment and once yesterday when I met with Lauren. Everyone has been great and very thorough and helpful. Sometimes you have to wait, but having worked for doctors, this is what happens. For instance, as a walk-in, they ended up spending over 90 minutes total with me due to shots, breathing apparatus, etc., etc. I couldn't have asked for kinder, more responsive care. There was someone who had made an appointment and was upset since they were running about 30+ minutes behind, but this happens every time I see a doctor so it kind of is what it is. read more

Reading these reviews is very saddening! I came here a while ago and although there were a big group of people lined up at the door when it first opened, the receptionist was so kind and organized and we were put in a room to be seen more quickly than I had expected. Received great care as well. I think people writing these reviews don't realize that this is not your typical urgent care.....They are a primary care office too (they have signs everywhere about it) so they have to take appointments. They have only ONE NP on at a time and this takes time, especially for more complicated patients I'm sure. It's called an urgent care because if you need immediate care, (chest pain/trouble breathing?), then I assume you'll be prioritized. But if you have a sore throat and are forced to wait your turn, then that's what you signed up for....You could either wait weeks to get into your PCP or go to the ER and wait there for 6 hours as the lowest priority patient there. I rather do the alternative. Yes, their office is a little cluttered and the people seem overworked, but they always do it with a smile and they have great bedside manner and follow up with their patients. Going to urgent care is already an 'urgent' situation so to be told immediately after walking into the open door that the office was closed, they closed at 5 (it was 5:15) and they were closed and they don't know who would have sent us there and, again, they were closed. After reading the reviews of Access, I was a bit skeptical but considering that I don't have health insurance (one of the non-perks of being a freelancer), I didn't have a lot of choices. I wanted to find a place that wouldn't question my lack of healthcare and after an online search for "no health insurance san diego," I found Access. As I had hardly slept the night before, I arrived at the clinic just as it opened at 8 a.m. One other patient was already waiting at the door so I was second in line for the walk-in but then an appointment showed up so I was bumped to number three. Still, I was in and out within the hour. I was very pleased with both the price and service of Access. For a $110 office visit plus a $15 strep test, I confirmed my suspicions that I had strep throat. The nurse ran the strep test and despite saying that it would usually take 10 to 15 minutes to get the results, she was shocked when my results came back positive after a couple of minutes. Having had strep before, I was not surprised by the outcome and could have diagnosed myself but I understand that there's a protocol. The doctor came in, wrote my prescription and, after paying in cash, I was on my way to the pharmacy. Cross my fingers I don't get sick again anytime soon but if I do, I'll be returning to Access. read more

I can't believe all these bad reviews. I went there with my husband who had cut his finger with a jigsaw at work. We weren't sure if he needed stitches. Our experience was fantastic. We were the last patient's for the day and they didn't make us feel like we were holding them up from getting home. The reception staff were great and friendly. The nurse and doctor were also really nice and friendly. By the time we left there we felt like we had known them all for years. They cleaned and checked out my husband cuts on his finger (didn't need stitches) also another sore on his arm from an injury a few days earlier. They gave him antibiotics as the doctor didn't like the look of the one on his arm. Also found his blood pressure extremely high and wrote a prescription for that. Last week I was told my mom needs to get her immigration medical exam done for the purpose of Green Card application. I called several hospitals but the operator recordings put me on extremely long hold and I had to give up. I found Dr. Farsad's information on google and called the number listed online - within two minutes I was connected to a REAL person! The staff member quickly set up an appointment for me that same afternoon. The access medical center is located right next to a medical facility and also next to a LabCorp in Encinitas. It is very easy to find and with their own entrance. My mom and I only waited for roughly 10 min before we were directed to enter to the exam room. The reception desk staff members and the nurse practitioners we interacted with are all very professional and courteous. They were very gentle and attentive to my elderly mom. Despite a number of additional steps and requirements by the immigration medical exam, we received our sealed exam results, signed by Dr Farsad in just a few days! Even the attorney's office is impressed how fast we were able to complete this important task. I would like to thank all the staff members and Dr Farsad from Access Medical Center for their kindness to my mom and all the help they provided to us in order to successfully complete the medical exam process. read more

This is the worst. Totally substandard care. I literally sat in the waiting room for two hours then another three in the patients room. The staff are all rude and unhelpful. They need to be shut down. They lied to me and said a doctor would see me. Some clueless nurse kept coming in and going out. She had zero experience with patient care and lied about referring me to someone who was competent. I have over thirty years in health care, so this was quite disturbing to me. Stay Away. The LAST thing you need when you're not feeling well and want to get in to see your Doctor that same day is "sorry but the first available appointment we have is next month..." BUT, when you call Access Medical Center, one of their friendly staff members -Lauren, Katie, Armaan will answer your call (without sitting on hold forever!) and will offer to book your appointment to be seen that very SAME DAY! Talk about feeling better already!!! The office is SO clean and everyone is SO genuinely friendly! Cassandra and Brianna are on top of things! They know me by name and always get me right into an exam room without having to wait. The staff of PA's and NP's that I have been seen by, Matt Spencer and Julie Olsen are not only knowledgeable and kind- they CARE. Appointment was 30 minutes late. I came by earlier and was told I could see someone right away if I set an appointment. They were wrong. I'm the only one here too. Logistics is way easier than that. You either have time or don't. I didn't book this months ahead of time. I booked today because of stated opening. Then, I see an NP - that is in fairness like many others - that basically asked me what antibiotics I wanted. Honestly, I have no idea. That's why I am here. We agreed on what would be best. Then, they tell me they are out of the serum they inject people with so they will be injecting me with something really painful!!!!! I protest a bit. I don't mind pain but they didn't seem to have any clue as if this was even safe. Ultimately, they decide to give me another antibiotic that we had previously agreed wouldn't be as effective. Sooooo- I waited too long, was nearly given an unsafe injection, and was given a poor treatment option that was dictated by their lack of ability to provide what actually thought would be best. read more

I took my 4 year old daughter in over the weekend because she had fever and complaining about her ear. She was seen right away, which was nice and since I was the first one in. The doctor found that she had double ear infection, and prescribed amoxicillin. Did the dosage for one day and my child was so sick the next day. She had been vomiting all day. Took her to her PCP and it turns out that the dosage that was prescribed from this Medical center was too high. It turns out that she also has pneumonia, which was missed during the visit. This was my first time here, the staff was super nice. However, the mistake that was done by prescribing the wrong dosage for a 4 year old bothers me and results in my one star. read more

Um... yikes. Watied for over an hour past my appointment time and then saw a nurse practictioner- not a doctor. (Although I will say she was very nice and professional.) Was left in a super-cold exam room for 30 minutes and asked for a blanket. Never came. Was eventually referred to a local imaging facility (not the one immediately next door) and it was oddly unprofessional and unorganized when I tried to schedule. El Nino has been tough on me this year. I'm a mess. I've been feeling crappy for a week now. It's hard to get to the doctor. especially when you can't get one on the phone. Well today I walked in here and got in. Took about an hour before they could put me in a room but that's typical for a walk in. Besides, I grew up Navy. If you are a military brat you know what I mean. Military hospitals are the worst. I was accident prone when I was a kid. Cut your finger off ... 4 hours in the waiting room. Your spleen popped out your butt... 2 hours. Can't breath and eyes blew up.. maybe an hour. Last night my eyes were blurry and burning like crazy. I couldn't take it anymore so I drove down today at about noon, filled out a small amount of paperwork and sat down. Once I was in a room they got to me right away and quickly assessed my problem. I was out of the room in about 10 minutes and had the papers for the meds I need to get back into the good life. They were polite and professional. I grabbed a card on the way out so next time - if there is a next time - I will call first like smart people. El Nino makes me sick. literally. Ended up here one weekend only because ASAP Urgent Care was closed for Spring Break. I showed up right after they opened, and was only the 2nd person in line. For some reason it still took about an hour to see the Doctor. Oh! I mean Nurse Practitioner. Don't get me wrong I was thankful to get help and especially the prescription for an antibiotic that I needed, but they should be more upfront with the fact that your not going to see an MD. Another thing I felt was weak is that the room I was cared for in, was only a pulled curtain away from the front desk and (now very full) waiting room. I could hear everything going on out there and can only assume they could hear everything going on in my room. It was fine for my instance, but if you have something more private to discuss that you would like to keep private you might want to consider going elsewhere so you don't have to do a walk of shame out the front door when your done. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. TL, DR: I have been going to Access Medical Center for years. My first bad experience was in April of 2018. This morning, I decided to give them one more chance since I realized I probably had a sinus infection, and on a Saturday, going to urgent care was my best bet. I immediately regretted giving them a second chance. They are disorganized, slow, and unprofessional. They are INCOMPETENT and CANNOT be trusted with your health. I ended up in the hospital because of them. YOU RISK MEDICAL MALPRACTICE GOING TO THEM! Details: In April 2018 I woke up feeling like I had a UTI. I went to urgent care, they told me they would run tests on my urine, gave me an antibiotic, and told me they would call me if It wasn't a UTI and they would need to change my antibiotic. A week goes by, I finish my antibiotics, and received no call from Access Medical regarding my test results. I assumed I was good to go and the antibiotic cleared up my UTI. I went on with my life, but within a week, my abdominal pain came back - and WORSE. I ended up then going to my primary care physician, who told me I had a pelvic inflammatory disease!!! HELLO! Why didn't Urgent Care notify me that I didn't actually have a UTI (something they would have known if they ran the tests)?? Turns out they DID NOT send my test to the lab. I ended up in the hospital because it got so serious, and had to see multiple physicians (mind you, all during my finals week in law school). Completely unacceptable. Then they had the guts to bill me for the lab tests. HELL NO! I called them and they removed the cost of the tests. This was complete MEDICAL MALPRACTICE but I didn't escalate it. Today, September 1, Labor Day weekend, I woke up with the Sinus infection. This is the closest urgent care to me so I decided to go because all I needed was antibiotics. I didn't need any tests taken. When I arrived, there were no other patients but it took 20 minutes for me to be called back. Then, when the nurse practitioner came in, she acted weird and mean from the very beginning. She asked me questions about how I was feeling, which I answered. Then she examined my ear and shoved the thing in so aggressively my ear now hurts!! I am pretty sure she scratched the inside of my ear. Then she used the same thing (without changing out the top part) to examine my nose and mouth (EW! So unsanitary). Then she began to press on my face and neck VERY hard. At one point she pressed behind my ears and asked if it hurt (she was pressing very hard) and then she mentioned how I should go to ER for an iv since it hurt. WHAT!? That escalated quickly. I told her I'm fine I just have sinus pressure. She then told me I needed to get swabbed for strep throat. NO LADY I DO NOT HAVE STREP. She keeps getting aggressive when I tell her I don't have these things, and she says she is just thinking out loud and communicating everything. She then left the room saying she needed to check something. The medical assistant comes in with a culture kit. Out of nowhere. I had just told the nurse practitioner that I did not have strep and don't need that test. I told the medical assistant I just need an antibiotic prescription and then I can leave. She says okay that the NP will write one and come back. At this point, I am waiting in the room for 15 more minutes waiting to get my prescription. The NP comes back finally and takes out these charts of what Sinus infections look like. She then starts telling me about how it could spread to my brain, but that it is rare (umm okay thanks for the reassurance). Then she starts telling me about how when they drill into your face they can see pockets of mucus or something (also a weird thing to say to a person with a sinus infection). Then she tells me she cannot write me a prescription and that I can come back in a week. ARE YOU KIDDING!? If I wait a week I could end up in the hospital with a sinus infection. I just wasted an hour here, you not only now did you hurt my ear, but also told me it could spread to my brain or they would have to drill holes in my face, and now you are NOT giving me antibiotics?! What kind of business is this!? I am NEVER coming back to Access Medical. This office needs to be closed before they harm another patient who ends up in the hospital from the lack of adequate care. I had my right toe checked by Apryl Pidding, N.P. early part of November due to having a tempered glass cutting board fall on it. Apryl was extremely thorough, compassionate and professional in her approach with me! I was in to rule out an ankle fracture. The provider(PA?) said he doubted it was broken. Told me to take Ibuprofen, sent me to Xray, said I didn't need to wait for the results. I called when I got home to get the results, and indeed I had a spiral fibular fracture. This was a Friday at closing time, no boot, no pain meds. Told me to see an Ortho as soon as possible. As a Private Aircraft Charter Pilot I need to stay healthy for all the people who depend on me to fly them and their families safely. Unfortunately a water skiing accident has brought me back to Access Medical with a broken ear drum. Needless to say, I needed to get back to health mucho pronto. Dr. Ramin Farsad recognized the injury immediately, then proceeded to administer the perfect dose of anti-biotics and topical medicine to stem the spread of the infection setting in. I was feeling better in less than an hour from my appointment. Two subsequent visits went very smooth as well. Had a very bad experience at this office. I was in a hurry when I came in and asked how long it would be. The front desk clerk said 15 minutes to get her in. Well I guess that was close to true but 1 hour later my daughter hadn't been seen and they had no idea how long it would be until she would be seen. When I complained they blamed it on me for not having an appointment. I understand that urgent care may not always be quick. That's why I asked and would have been perfectly happy returning later or making an appointment. I do not know how anyone could leave Access Medical a one star review.... they are the best urgent care- no, medical center in general- that I've ever ever been to. They are the kindest, most caring people I've ever dealt with in a medical setting. Wait time is always reasonable for a busy urgent care and they take the best care of me every time. I've been in twice this month with the flu and mono, both times they showed care and concern and made sure to rush my tests to help treat me ASAP.
