I had a really great experience with the Optometrist. My issue is with the front desk staff and how rude they are and unprofessional. Let me start by saying I read my insurance policy on my insurance website and then booked the appointment through my insurance provider saying this location was covered in my insurance network. I knew before arriving my insurance plan covered contacts and glasses. When I asked the front desk staff she looked at me and said "most people only get glasses or contacts so just pick out glasses as the best bang for your buck." Cool, so I pick out my glasses. As I'm doing so she pulls up my plan and tells me I have coverage for neither contacts or glasses. I try to explain to her that I work for a multi billion dollar pharmaceutical company and I'm definitely covered. I proceed to take out my company phone and look up my coverage again; where it tells me I'm covered. I look at my paycheck where I've been paying for eye insurance all year. I'm throughly confused. The two other front desk staff proceed to sing and mess around while I try to talk to the other women that thinks I came here with no insurance. The receptionist is the only person helping by calling my insurance company. After getting everything cleared up and experiencing what was the most unprofessional experience in a doctors office. I get my bill. Guess what I was covered for glasses and contact. Next time don't walk up to the customer and tell them that they are not covered until after you've called their insurance agency. Very pricy lesson. My wife and I both had appointments back to back. We paid well over a thousand for our all our glasses that day. My wife had to go for a 2nd opinion to an optomologist and her prescription ended up being wrong and had to reorder more glasses elsewhere for her. I did not like the doctor as he was not listening to me at all and said that's your prescription and it will be fine and rushed us out. He seemed like a know it all and pampas. I came to pick up my glasses and could not focus with either pair I ordered. The staff tried to clean the lenses and adjusting the nose piece but still was not helping. They told me to go home and try it for a week and they would call me to check up on me, but if they had to remake them they would not help me as it would still be the same prescriptions. NEVER got a follow up call. I feel like they did not listen to me at all during the exam and after. I trusted them and now I feel that I was swindled and the glasses are unusable garbage. DO NOT TRUST THEM. I do not want any communications with them EVER. read more

Unfortunately this is not the first time I have had an issue with this establishment. I schedule an appointment almost 2 months out was forced to reschedule due to a rescheduling on their behalf for two different appointments on two different days. When finally getting to the appointment that was rescheduled three weeks later. I was informed that I was 15 minutes late the appointment and they would only have the availability to do one of the three children. The woman in the office are always snooty and unprofessional. I refuse to return to this establishment. Hope your candy melt it despite the situation they are very quick to rush you in and rush you out the woman at the front desk is very unprofessional. And despite the thousands they have received from me and my family it will no longer happen read more

Overall I would recommend Accuvison to anyone needing a check-up or glasses. The receptionists and doctor were very nice and professional. Initially there was a mix-up regarding the day of my appointment but they were able to get me in later on the day I came in anyway. The biggest negative I experienced was with the woman who was doing some initial pictures and checks of my eyes before I met with the doctor. I told her I wasn't going to do the "air puff" test for glaucoma and she very rudely told me I had to, when I reiterated I wasn't going to do it, she again told me that I had to or the doctor was going to have to touch my eye. (I felt like saying, "really, I'm here on my own free will and I'm pretty sure I don't "have" to let you do anything to me that I don't consent to!") She pretty much made me feel like crap, and that's putting it nicely. The doctor was calming and informative, I appreciated his demeanor. I felt he was thorough in his exam, and after gently "feeling" my eye through my eye lid, he was comfortable having me sign off that I understood the risk of not having the glaucoma test. Overall I would recommend this place besides the one employee. As with anything, don't let someone bully you into something you're not comfortable with. read more

My glasses broke in half. I was in desperate need of new glasses. I had considered AccuVision for new glasses for awhile. I called Gurnee, they and Round Lake were a week out for an appointment. I was able to get an appointment same day at Wauconda. It turned out to be a God send. The receptionist and technicians could not have been any better and more helpful. Dr. Doherty was the best. She took more time working on my prescription and it's never been better. Perfect. I would rate AccuVision a 10+ and recommend them to anyone. You won't be sorry. read more

My daughter had broken her glasses and we were heading out of town. To make matters even more challenging, we were coming up on a holiday and a weekend! The polite staff was able to quickly get my daughter in for an eye appointment; it had been over two years since her last exam. Dr. McHugh was thorough and patient as I asked questions. Once my daughter picked out her frame we thought we were ready to go-smooth sailing but the Wauconda location did not have anyone in their lab this particular day. The optician reassured me and quickly made a call to their Round Lake location. The lab had the frame but not the lenses and since it was the day before the holidays the lab personnel wanted to cut out early. By now we had left the store and the optician said she would try to do what she could but we were probably looking at 3-4 days before we would have the glasses. Sometime had passed when my phone rang. The Wauconda optician said that if we wanted to come pick up the frame and lenses, the Round Lake lab personnel would wait for me. Wow! I know he wanted to leave, it had been slow for the lab at that location and it was becoming late afternoon the day before the holiday. Who wouldn't want to cut their day short? We dashed up there where the gentleman from the lab was awaiting our arrival. He said it would take about an hour. An hour! He had waited for us about an hour already. So, two hours he stayed and waited and worked with us so that my daughter could have glasses over the long (2 weeks) holiday weekend! I would highly recommend Accuvision in Wauconda and Round Lake. My experience with the doctor and all of the staff was above and beyond quality service! We have been customers for many years now and have always been treated exceptionally! Please keep up the superb customer service. It will always win over the customers! Thank you Wauconda Accuvision for your fine service and prompt attention to help us out. I did not have a need to purchase lenses or glasses and this review is for the exam only. The staff was prompt and friendly from appointment call to walking out the door. Minus a star because although patients are always responsible for services, I feel a profession is better versed in insurance policies and procedures than the consumer. I usually expect a bit more assistance when there is a question on coverage. Besides this minor inconvenience, everything went as expected. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Doherty for fourteen years and over the years have visited his facilities in Round Lake Beach, Mundelien and Wauconda. These facilities are as good as it gets and are equipped with state-of-the-art examination equipment. It was Dr. Doherty's expertise during one exam that identified an anomaly in my eye that was an early warning sign of health issues as yet undiagnosed.
