What stood out to be was that there was skee ball and pool tables and other games like pinball! The drinks were fairly cheap but nothing stood out to me in particular. I came here on a weekend and it was pretty packed. It's definitely a popular spot so I'd recommend coming here early if you want to be able to chill in the bar comfortably. I did not have a good experience with this place. I had just came from brunch with a group of 7 people. I had 2 friends who didn't have there Id. They both had pictures of it one of my friends were white and the other was black the bouncer allowed my white friend in without her id and just a picture, but my black friend was not able to use the picture of her id or the picture of her passport to get in. I understand you have to have a id to get into these places, but you can't discriminate if he was letting one in he should of left both in. or it they can't accept pictures turn them both away. what he did was wrong and it hurt because people should be treated fairly. read more

Wow! This is the place to pregame if you are in the city. The drinks are cheap and the vibes are SUPER casual. An overall great vibe for a group of friends (sweet spot size I would say is around 6 max). There are booths that you can grab if you are attentive which is very nice. And, did I mention- there are GAMES. The back area has two pool tables, skee ball, and darts. We played a round of skee ball which is $5 for 5 rounds. You have to do $5 which is fine by me. A dive bar and a sports bar got drunk one night and 9 months later had Ace Bar. It's definitely an eclectic mix. Quite spacious, even the area with the games didn't get too stuffy during my time there. Drinks were also inexpensive, but just be warned that the selection is pretty bottom rung. Came here for halloween at around 11:30 to get some shots with a couple of friends. Charged $10 a shot and brought us our check before we asked for it in attempt to rush us out due to the fact that all bars close at 12 in the city. When we stood up a friend of mine took 5 maybe 10 seconds to put her mask and because she was in mid-conversation. The bartender proceeds to say AND I QUOTE "Sweetie out your mask on or i'll come over there and make you" too which her boyfriend rightfully says in response "what the fuck are you going to do if you come over here?" Inviting the bartender to throw a fit as we walk out of the bar. I can understand being agitated during closing time, we've all been there. But to lash out at such an extent is quite pathetic. I hope this review highlights the poor etiquette we all received from this establishment and i would HIGHLY recommend anyone who intends to visit this bar to go to the far better ones on the same street. This is a huge bar... it has a bunch of bar games (think arcade, darts etc), a pretty big bar up front, a bunch of tables, huge booths, and a security guard that never stops shuffling around and bumping into you. The drinks are crazy cheap (think $3/beer), they were pretty busy at 3pm on a Saturday, and a huge range of people from 20something post brunch girls with a birthday crown to townies and locals from around alphabet city. AWFUL: SHANE Our visit to Ace Bar in East Village took an unsettling turn when we encountered security guard SHANE, whose aggressive behavior and targeted actions left us deeply disturbed. As three women and two gay men, we couldn't ignore the concerning reports of similar incidents involving security guards at the bar. In this specific situation, Shane's confrontational approach regarding drinks on the pool table that weren't ours crossed the line. He came at us with unnecessary aggression, yelling and attempting to embarrass us in front of other patrons. It is crucial to highlight that prior to this encounter, we were respectful and causing no issues. Shane's hostile behavior not only ruined our night but also reflected poorly on the establishment as a whole. He aggressively screamed at us like children in the middle of the pool game we paid for. This man had so much anger it made us uncomfortable and we had to leave. Seems that he was taking out other emotions on the customers. This incident, along with the disturbing pattern described in other bar reviews, calls for immediate attention to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Our rating for the bar dramatically dropped from a 3/5 to a disappointing -1/5 due to the distress caused by this alarming incident. Even though I've yet to play skee ball here (and man, have I tried), I'm still giving Ace four stars. I've never had a bad time here, they usually have a decent selection of beers on tap (and cheap ones at that), they can accommodate large groups of people without it feeling claustrophobic and of course, there are games! I've popped into Ace Bar a number of times over the past few years. It's a fantastic place to go with a good-sized group of friends when you're looking for a bar in the East Village that's casual but not overly divey, with ample room to move about. While I'd still categorize Ace as a dive, it's not your typical dive. It's got actual character. Aside from the games, there's an awesome, old-school lunch box shrine that spans the whole left wall when you walk in. So many cartoons, so many throwbacks. Everything's about appreciating your inner child these days, so come here and take a few hours to pretend you're actually not an adult with no actual adult responsibilities. That seems healthy, no? Speaking of trying to forget that you have responsibilities, they've got some solid beer options at Ace. Nothing particularly notable, but it's better than what you'd find at your average dive. Think beers that are just one step up from Bud Light/Budweiser/Coors--Sixpoint, Yuengling, Stella, etc. And they're still cheap! That said, the biggest con here is the $20 credit card minimum, which others have already mentioned here. And not that I'd ever complain about cheap drinks, but the fact that the drinks here *are* less expensive than those at many of the neighboring bars means it's not necessarily easy to hit that minimum. I never have (not at Ace, at least). I realize that cash-only establishments are things that exist in the world, but come on. A $10 minimum probably wouldn't bother me much but $20 seems a bit excessive. Game-wise, there's pinball (2 machines), one of those old-school hunting games complete with two plastic guns, pool, skee ball, darts (it's still beyond me why darts and bars became a thing and the idea was clearly conceived of by an inebriated person), and maybe something else I'm forgetting. The only issue, of course, is that these things are all very in-demand. So be prepared to wait. It could be worse, though. Try going to Fat Cat on a weekend night in the hopes of playing pool and see how long you'll have to wait there. Just comes with the territory! I should note that weekends are by far the peak time here (though that goes for any bar, pretty much) so you'll have far better luck scoring your game of choice on a weeknight. Tends to get packed and stay packed on weekends. If you're looking to play games at a bar but want to have the option of, well, opting out, Ace is the place for you (dammit, as soon as that phrase popped into my head, the stupid hardware jingle popped in right after...and now it's probably in your heads too...sorry 'bout that). Ace has two pool tables, pinball, darts, AND skeeball. They employ a waitress who will bring my (fairly cheap) drinks over as I play the game of my choice. The bar is spacious, with plenty of places to sit. I SHOULD be able to spend hours on end here without a problem. Sadly, I don't love Ace as much as it rightfully deserves, because the bar is filled with people like That Guy.* That Guy does things like this: 1. Approaches the bar. Gets the bartender's attention, THEN deliberates for a over a minute. 2. Asks what kind of beer they have in bottles. [Bartender silently points to prominent Bottled Beer sign.] 3. Asks if they have Stella. [Bartender says "Yeah, but on tap."] 4. Says, "Oh. I'll just take a Long Island iced tea." Last time, That Guy wanted to play me in pool. When it was his game, he handed me a dollar and waited expectantly. After a minute, he finally asked, "Oh, so I provide the quarters?" That Guy will also pass up the gems on Ace's eclectic jukebox (you don't often see Husker Du, Fats Domino, Kings of Leon, and Ghostface's Supreme Clientele together), and insist on playing music that nobody wants to hear blasting when you're trying to kick back and play a little pool. In the right hands, such a jukebox can be a thing of beauty. I can appreciate the varied selection; but Ace, PLEASE put a few mainstream classics on there so That Guy won't ruin my night. *You know, the one who seems like he's out in public for the first time since he graduated at the bottom of his class in home school. I came here with a friend last night and we had a good time chilling in the bar area near the pool table and games just talking and relaxing. Ace bar is in an area where it's a bit of a walk from the nearest train station to get to, so just a heads up. They have a bunch of arcade and board games you can play in the front or the back of the bar. There are booths in the front which are perfect for groups. My only real qualm about this place is that there is no food! After sitting at the bar, asking for the bar menu, and flipping through a book of random restaurant menus, I realized what was going on. My friend then proceeded to tell me that you have to order food from one of these places and they deliver it to you at the bar. While some may think this is cool, I consider it an inconvenience and unnecessarily complicated lol. I've never been to an establishment like this. But nonetheless, I think ace bar is okay. First of all I want to say I've been going to Ace bar for years roughly over 10 plus. But a few nights back I was out with friends. I had an altercation with one of the managerial staff there. I was outside smoking on the left side of the establishment in front of the apartment complex with friends just having a conversation. When I was told by the manager in question to move to the other side. At the time it was around 2 a.m. I didn't take kindly to having to move but I compliedand I just made a comment referencing the neighborhood and how things have changed my friends and I didn't think much of it at the time. But the security guard took things a little too far he heard my comment and told me I was banned completely from the establishment. I felt the manger in charge took the situation way too far, I did not make any comments regarding the establishment nor towards him personally. I would say on his part he made situation uncomfortable to say the least. There was barely anyone in the bar during that time on the weekday. I don't understand for the life of me why he had to go that far into banning me from the bar entirely. I can only gather because of the color of my skin now I say this because this because the Manager in question was Black too and there is a stigma regarding both situations when a person of color that's in charge and patrons of color on how to deal with situations regarding each other. I made a comment if I was white this wouldn't have went that far he and the security guard on the seen then began to get closer to me thinking an altercation may insume. I immediately left out the establishment after we shared some heated words and told him I will speak to there supervisor's and other patrons who go to this establishment to tell them what transpired here. I then asked him for his name he didn't comply of course I didn't expect him to but I just wanted to know who he was so I could address this altercation to there supervisory staff at a later date. I did finally hear back from mutual friends regarding the altercation that night. I was told they spoke to the Manager. But they pretty much dismiss the situation entirely. So I just left it at that but I would have to say the respect at this establishment now is surely lacking. In all my years of going there I have never been disrespected in that place nor disrespected any of the staff for those 10 plus years. On top of that to be harrsed with messages by the management regarding my review didn't help the matter at all either. I for one will never go there again there are thousands of bars in New York City. I'm sure I'll other establishments we're the staff treats there patrons in a respectful kind matter and who will not rush to judgment because of comments towards a situation. Four stars for Ace because the skeetball is legit ($1 per game) and they also have pool and darts. Darts are free with a $5 deposit that you get back when you return the darts. Without the games Ace would be a pretty whack bar due to the fact that most of the clientele were yuppie hipsters just out of school and type annoying. Not all, I met some nice folks too, but definitely the majority. It can be interesting to watch for a little bit, but if your not here to play a game don't bother coming. Dollar pool tables, Skee ball machines, and dart boards each run in tandem towards the back of the bar, while the front showcases an arcade gun game and pinball machine among other offerings. A few small/medium size TV's overlook the bar counter up front, while the back area has one similarly sized TV in the upper corner of the wall above the Skee ball machines. For big games, a very large projector screen is dropped down in the back area. This place is always popping during suspect going out hours and is a popular spot to take a date (or meet a date?) Pro-tip: Outside food is permitted, so pick up a burger from Black Iron Burger down the street and down it with a $3 PBR (or three). read more

My friend and I must've arrived on a slowish day because when we arrived their were only five other people in the bar, including the bartender! However, after an hour or so the spot filled up which gave us some solace. The space itself it large, with a front section that has several high top tables and pinball machines, the middle section had the spots main bar, along with booths along the opposite wall. In the back they have their bathrooms, as well as their darts section and two pool tables. This is definitely the space to come with friends for a no frills fun experience to meet strangers and play games.
