My issue with this Ace Hardware location is not with the employees, but with management. The staff I encountered seemed to be doing their best, but the overall leadership and organization of the store felt very unprofessional and poorly managed. Based on my experience and what I observed, there appears to be a serious lack of communication and structure coming from management. Unfortunately, that creates a frustrating environment not only for customers but likely for the employees as well. Because of this, I would not feel comfortable returning to this location or spending a single dime there again. It never fails! I go in for some needle nose pliers, they are out. Go for an AC air filter. Out. Ask the girls where to find threaded nuts.... This is not the place. I would love to meet whomever is in charge of ordering for this store because they never have anything. Their shelves have looked the same for six months...and that is bare. The whole "it's a supply chain issue" isn't an excuse anymore. Every other hardware store around seems to be able to stock their shelves. For example, I went there for one can of brown spray paint...and, nope, they don't even have that. A entire aisle where the spray paint is supposed to be, but only about 20 total cans on all of the shelves. On top of never having items you need, their prices are horrendously overpriced. I believe I just witnessed an employee get in trouble for offering great customer service. I'm a new home owner in the area and was encouraged to buy local instead of heading to Lancaster to purchase needed supplies, so that's what I did. My wife and I headed to the store to purchase paint for the front door and being that the store closed at 7pm we figured we could make it. We get there at 6:45pm and was provided great customer service as we couldn't figure out just which red paint to purchase. The employee was nice and pretty much showed us the colors side by side. She nor did we notice the time had slightly gone beyond 7pm I believe it was 7:02pm when she was scolded by her manager. I assume he was the manager because he had on street clothes and a unpleasant sour look on his face. He was obviously upset that she didn't push us out the store at 7pm. She was then berated by planned clothed woman who I assume was the assistant manger, wife or mistress of the manager. After her verbal assault the employee walked us out and before we got in the car she asked if we needed anything else. The employee was great but management was disgusting. It's truly unfortunate because I'm new to the city and would rather shop elsewhere than to see good employees abused. Used to be a really decent place to go and get the stuff you need for projects or repairs versus driving to larger chain stores. Staff were friendly, the owner was a local and cared about locals, made it feel like home to shop there. But now, under new ownership and management, the place has become a nightmare. placed an order online November 17, selected the "local store delivery" option. because I have an Ace Rewards account, the delivery fee was waived per their advertisement. item was supposed to be delivered November 28, but still showed processing. customer service told me it was delivered to the store over a week ago, so I needed to call the store. I called the store, they said I needed to call them after the order was placed and acknowledged there was no way for me to know that. I was told that the delivery driver would contact me to schedule delivery. received a call back today saying the store manager said to deliver, they would charge me $60. So essentially Ace took my $200 for a 100 lb item, didn't call me to schedule delivery, waited for me spend over an hour trying to contact someone and get information, said they would be in contact to deliver it, and then after all of this (still with my $200) said I would have to pay an additional $60 to get the full service agreed to when I ordered online. this is a 100 lb item that I ordered the way I did specifically because I cannot lift it on my own and I was hoping to gift it to my husband as a Christmas gift. Some but not all of their employees will just say yes to anything they think you want to hear just to get you off their back ...the result dead plants and a lot of wasted time and money.. Really ridiculous return policy. I bought a swamp cooler cover and when I got home it was faded on all the corners but instead of driving all the way back I attempted to put it on my swamp cooler and it ripped. They accused me of trying to force it on the wrong size swamp cooler even though the receipt was two days old and the cover was obviously years old in storage. I wondered around and had to look on phone to see if what I found would work since there was no one to ask. Since we have lived in Cal City we have always tried to make a point to shop at Ace. I was gone for about 6 months from town and heard there were new owners and that the majority of the previous employees were let go. Since I have been back we have been in several times, it is just not the same. I went in with open mind. Today was the last straw. Today marks the 3rd time in 3 days we have been in. Friday and Saturday we made a purchase totaling $78. We went for fence pickets yesterday and they didn't have what we needed, so Tehachapi we went. Went back today for more spray paint that is labeled for $3.99. We had 5 cans of paint we were going to purchase. They showed invalid in the system. So the one lady had to enter them into the system. When she did that they rang up $7.99 a can. So the owner and this other girl wanted to yell and argue with us. We also got 2 sodas. The owners was like you can just take them. Then proceeded to yell at us as we were walking away. Then proceeds to tell the non involved cashier to charge us for the drinks. Ok, I was going to pay for them when she told us to take them. I am sorry, but this is not the Ace with the helpful hardware folks I have grown to like over the past 2 years. We will never shop here again. read more

I do like this place a lot due having everything i ever need. Staff is super helpful and very knowledgeable about location of anything i need in the store. HOWEVER, they charge way too much. Everything costs way more there than if you were to go anywhere else to get it. Being that they are the only hardware store around, they can get away with doing so..... There has to be a line between being there to provide a service and making a buck, thats the first rule of owning a business and i feel the owner/whoever makes the prices, needs to look harder for that line... read more
