In between customers, we picked up the parts. I had come down from Salem, with absolutely NO TOOLS. He said he could help me "between customers." if I could be patient, and I was!.:-). DO NOT PERMIT THEM TO SERVICE YOUR STIHL EQUIPMENT without you etching your name/initials on your equipment first. The head of my weed wacker was swapped when the machine was brought in for an engine issue. I first thought it was just me but then my wife used it, and without any conversation or solicitation, she said the same thing - it seems different and looks different. 1) The cutting guard hadn't been that clean since it was new and it is of a different style/shape. 2) The trim cord winding instructions inside the head are now half-English half-German, instead of previously in all English. 3) The angle of the head was different and the bolts holding it in place looked to have been removed/replaced. 4) My machine had no clip to attach a strap and yet suddenly now it does - and yes, I happen to have a previous picture of the machine clearly showing no strap clip. I checked the engine serial number, it matches my time of purchase documentation, However there is no serial number on the head, so I guess it's fair game. How do you argue any of these points with the area or store manager? Of course there is only adamant denying that anything was swapped and I am just an idiot end user. It's really too bad, Fields used to be my go to hardware store, I've easily spent over $15k there between lumber, fasteners, chemicals, and machinery. Now I am very wary of them yet still cringe at the thought of using the big orange or big blue stores. Going forward, I will only use Fields for prepackaged hardware parts and no longer any large dollar purchase. read more

I love this Home improvement/Hardware store. Their lumber is the best quality and price around. Being a female DIYer, all of the staff has been so helpful. I wish they did HVAC repairs! I'm so sick of the crooked companies. I bought some pressure treated 2x4"s at another company for 3 times what I paid for them here. Could not believe the quality. I have been to all three of the main Lumber and home Improvement stores in Grants Pass. I like all three but one stands out head and shoulders above and that is Fields. They have excellent prices and a good selection but what really stands out is the Customer services. Everyone has been great and I pretty much use Fields as my primary store. The Lumber purchases from start to loading is the best. It is made easy by the service. The Manager of the Lumber department is the best. He makes sure everyone is helped. They go out of their way to make it easy on me. I do not have anything to say bad about Home Depot and Diamond, they are really good but Fields stands out by far as the best in the county. Once you give them a try you will be hooked on that store. read more

We used to love this store and the quality of lumber products are great. What changed? All it takes is one employee to ruin us ever going back and a clerk inside to be like "oh well" We have been doing projects around the house during this coved shut down and have been in to get supplies the last couple weeks. On 4/17 we go to get lumber, pick out what we need and go inside to pay and get loading ticket. Go back to the warehouse and not a sole in sight so we proceed to getting our lumber and stack it on the ladder rack. Half way through here comes an employee with a customer which he was chummy with and told us we are not allowed to load our stuff. We said sorry but we couldn't find anybody. We were then told we could not pick through the lumber and just take the good stuff, WHAT. We explained we did not want boards that turn a corner and we were told tough. The employee stated most of our boards were for his customer and proceeded to tell his buddy " that M F'r thinks he can come in here and pick what he wants!" So you can all imagine how we felt. We told him you know what, we don't need the lumber enough to be insulted and dumped it on the ground off the ladder rack. Went inside to get our money back and explained what happened to which the clerk replied " well we don't want to be stuck with bad boards either so you have to take what's on the top of the pile. SERIOUSLY!!! Needless to say we went elsewhere in town, saved $30 for the same stuff AND didn't get insulted. Sorry Fields but you lost our business and any referrals read more

Fields is a wonderful local hardware store with the best selection of lumber in the area. It's also good for things like concrete, rebar, and roofing materials. I find their staff to be very knowledgeable, and easy to track down if you need help. Also, they sell beer, so there's no need to stop somewhere else on the way home! read more

We came to this store because they have a large selection of lumber and it's a local store. Upon purchasing the lumber we needed to build a fence for our home we learned that they had a "No Sorting/No Return" policy (translated: you don't see/pick the lumber you are buying before they load it into your vehicle). Once we began building our fence we realized many of the boards were unusable due to them being milled incorrectly or too broken/split. 37 boards total were complete garbage. We came back to exchange them and had to make several trips from the store to the lumberyard in the cold morning weather. From the beginning the staff was argumentative and rude. They did not want to return the broken wood. After explaining our problems with the wood to the staff person in the lumberyard, I was told to walk back inside. When I did, I found that he was talking poorly about me to his co-worker at the register. They tried to tell me that the wood was "rustic" and not broken. I let them know I was familiar with the term "rustic" and that rustic does not imply broken. The exchange that finally did take place took an entire hour. What is most upsetting and irritating about this whole experience is that we wanted to shop here because of their great selection and because it is a local business. Unfortunately, in the future we will spend our money at Home Depot or Lowes because the level of service we receive there is far better. I would caution anyone about buying lumber here. Try to find a business that operates with integrity and is confident enough in the product they are selling to let you see it before you buy it. read more

Since I had a buddy in Cave Junction he told me about this place and their "blows" plywood- basically rejects that are good for sheds and whatnot. So I used to hitch my trailer and go there and purchase many items, T-111, plywood, lumber, roofing you name it. Much cheaper than Humboldt County and no sales tax. Staff is okay, main issue is their "No Sorting" policy which means they just throw in anything from the piles, I have been very firm about that issue that it sucks - I don't want crooked lumber or with a lot of wane right? and some of them accommodate me on that but say " the boss is watching" I say BS I come all the way up and spend at least $1k each time . We have a big project coming up and we figure we will save at least $500 going there so we might go back. We don't have the buddy in CJ anymore so it's a long day in the truck pulling the trailer on 199 and 101! read more

Ace Hardware is a store that is only a few miles away. On May 19, 2020 I entered the store to find that none of the employees (checkers) were wearing masks to protect the customers. I asked the checker why they were not wearing masks. He pointed to a plexiglass shield and replied that that was all the protection they needed. The shield was open on each side and offered little protection. He referred me to the owner who was standing nearby and I told him I would never come back. He just stared and said nothing. Every other store I have been in has a mask policy. I guess these people don't believe the pandemic is serious. read more

I was looking for a 4x10x12 cedar beam to make a fireplace mantel for our log home. Two guys showed me where they were in the lumber yard. One grabbed a forklift and brought the entire bundle down from the top rack, then they pulled the boards out one by one for me to inspect for straightness, no splits, color depth and the character I wanted in the wood. We're talking 12 ft beams here, these things are heavy, and I'm only looking for one. Then they took the one I choose over to the saw bldg and cut it to my specifications. Try getting that kind of service at Lowe's or home depot. In short go to Fields, you won't be disappointed. Their service is always that good! read more

Basically a good store, prices and selection are above average, but at least one guy who works behind the counter could use a little attitude adjustment, I'm not gonna bother naming names, but someone I know well who shops here regularly, knew EXACTLY the guy I was talking about when we were discussing this place.....other than this one guy, everyone else has been both helpful and customer service oriented. From what I understand, this particular employee has worked here quite a long time, I honestly hope someone in a managerial position reads this review and takes it seriously. Just an improvement in one guys demeanor alone would automatically bump this place up at least one star, because when the average homeowner walks into a store such as Fields, we are relying upon the expertise and advice of those who know far more than we do to provide us the help we need to make our projects a success. I shop more often at Farmers than here, partially it's because Farmers is closer to me than Fields, but I've also never encountered any less than great employee attitude while at Farmers..... read more
