Since the new owner and manager took over, the service has been terrible. I shopped here for over 25 years. No longer. The last straw is that they no longer warranty/exchange Craftsman hand tools. Craftsman notes they are a retail partner and will exchange them. Unfortunately I was told they no longer do it. I was referred to contact Craftsman online. With Home Depot and Menards right down the street, there is no need to shop here. I supported the smaller store for over 25years as they had superior customer service. Buyer beware: They might sell and service name brands, but I found out that my ECO product , which was still under warranty by ECO was taken there and fixed twice, but I was told later by ECO that repairs were covered under warranty. Store Service Mgr. told me , they cover no warranty items for ECO, just repairs. Typical Greed response that they want to sell things, but won't stand behind ECO warranty, because they re not an authorized dealer. Must find an authorized ECO dealer to do the work and cover the warranty. ECO has a 5 year warranty on all. Will not be back with my 3 ECO tools for any repairs plus, their lack of customer service leaves a bad taste with me to ever return there for anything. Lessons learned the hard way. read more

I've been to this location twice because it's a convenient location. First time was to buy a new gas grill. Could literally get nobody to help or answer a question. Second time was to buy a new lawnmower, could get no one to help or answer a question. Everyone in the store peers to hate their job, and avoid customers at all costs. I will never return, I'll stick with another location or store. Ended up getting both on Amazon. I try to buy local whenever I can, but this is quite possibly the worst customer service retail store I've been to. read more

Quite possibly the worst experience possible. 1) paint can't be matched and there was no way or showing what colors were available with the base paint they sold. You had to provide a color to them, which wasn't available to match. 2) sales are for "members" so I decided that I'd join the program to get the benefits. Well you can't do anything day of. It takes 24 hours to be in the system. I was planning to purchase things that were part of the sale but they can't help expedite and would rather lose the sale due to a terrible system. Overall, I love this store's selection but the way they do business is never going to work for me. I guess I'll be back to the big box guys... Hopefully they read this and understand there should be work around for this exact situation. Train your cashier to do the right thing for customers and not stand behind rules that frustrate people. read more

I walked in yesterday to look at a new snowblower and ask a plumbing question. There was 1 fellow stocking shelves. I couldn't find anyone else save the cashier. I was ignored 100%. I finally asked the man if I could ask a question. He brusquely said he didn't know anything about plumbing and there was no one there who did. This used to be my go to store, with good service. Oh my goodness, has this place really nosedived in customer service! It used to be the gold standard, but lately, with whomever is in charge--because we do not know--it's really suffering. I'd rather go to Menards, Home Depot, or Amazon, where even though you can't find any help, at least no one insults you verbally. Two weeks ago, I brought my snowblower in for a tune-up. I did what I always do: I brought it around back, expecting help unloading it because, look, I am 70 and can't do what I used to as a younger man. Well, no one was around, so I unloaded it myself, brought it inside, and told a young man I needed it repaired and explained what I wanted. He directed me up front to leave a deposit, which seemed odd since it is only $40, and they already had my $300 snowblower. It felt unnecessary, but I left the deposit and headed back to my car. It is not like I would not come back to get my machine. As I was leaving, the young man who had helped me earlier scolded me for not going to the front first when I brought it in. I just looked at him, and he said, "That's the way you need to do it next time." I thought to myself, "If there's a next time," but I let it go. A few days later, I was called and told my snowblower was ready for pick-up. Great! I went in yesterday to get it and needed a gas can as well. I approached the front counter and told the gentleman there I was picking up my snowblower. He spread his arms wide and said, "Does it look like I have a snowblower up here?" I informed him that, during my last visit, I was instructed that all business was done up front, so I assumed that was the process. Clearly, I was wrong. I went to the back, got my paperwork, grabbed the gas can I wanted to purchase, and headed back to the front. I had a $5.00 coupon for the gas can. The cashier rang up the snowblower, no problem, but then processed the gas can as a separate transaction (why two transactions, I have no idea, but okay). When I asked why the coupon was not applied, he told me he could not get it to work. I pointed out that the coupon was valid until 9/30/2024 for any purchase over $25, for which this qualified. He simply shrugged and said, "Sorry, what do you want me to do?" I told him I wanted my $5.00 discount, but he just shrugged again. Frustrated, I asked if it was worth stealing $5.00 from a senior. While I was trying to explain this to him, they brought my snowblower up. I thanked them since I didn't have to pull around and asked for help loading it. The guy just walked away and I was stunned. He may not have heard me, but still, there was the day when they could not wait for you you to help them load it, seriously, those were the good days. I left the store upset, struggling to load the snowblower into my car, when a kind stranger (not an employee) came over and asked if I needed help. He helped me load it. I tried to tip him the $5.00 I would have given the employees if they had helped, but he kindly declined. I went back on Monday because I decided to return the gas can, the lady that helped me was nice, said she was the assistant manager. She said she had to refund the original purchase price, then re-ring it with the coupon for $5.00 off. She could not get it to work either. The register said it was supposed to be a 50.00 purchase but the coupon clearly said 25.00 She said she would get it corrected and get my credit. Well now I have been charged for 2 gas cans and gotten a 8 dollar credit when I only was supposed to get a 5.00 and I never received a refund that I was supposed to get as the were trying to fix this mess. I called in on today (Wednesday) to see where my credit was. I was told I had to come in and they would gladly help me. I am the one that they are trying to screw and I have to waste time and gas to come back and get it resolved. I do not want to set foot in this store again. It is a miserable experience and I will never come back. that's my story. I accompanied a friend into the Apple Valley Store on Saturday March 22, 2025. She had her snowblower repaired and needed to pay and schedule a delivery since she paid for pick up and delivery. She requested I accompany her as a witness to the transaction since she had so many problems with the manager on the phone. I was stunned at the way she and then I was treated. We entered the store and walked to the repair in back. She asked a gentleman if he was the repair manager or the store manager. He very aggresively said the store manager. She was very kind to him and I was surprised as I stood back and listened to his tone. She told him she was there to pay for her snowblower and schedule delivery. He snarled back at her that he had told her numerous times on the phone that he would not schedule it until it was paid for. She told him she had no problem with paying for it but she had some questions regarding the bill. He then stated he had gone over it with her on the phone numerous times already. She then told him she had checked her cc that morning and there were more charges and the bill she had did not match the charges. He got nastier with her and I then stepped in. I had heard enough of his nastiness. I said excuse me Cam.....is it necessary to be so nasty to her? He told me he was going to kick us out of the store. I said shall I call 911 then? He said not it was not necessary HE would kick us out. I very calmly said you are going to put your hands on us to kick us out? He said DO NOT threaten him. I said...WAIT! I am asking you if YOU are going to put your hands on us and you think I am threatening YOU? He then told her to pay for the machine or leave the store. She asked again if he would please explain the bill as it was NOT clear. He said NO...get out of my store. I was so stunned I could not speak. She took out her credit card and paid but told him all she wanted explanation of the bill. He took her card and then told us to get out of HIS store. She was afraid of not getting her fairly new very expensive snowblower back so she paid. We left the store with all of the rest of the customers watching and hearing what was going on. Two store employees apologized on our way out. Once we left we met for dinner with a group of friends ALL of these people and myself reviewed the bill that made no sense what so ever. She was paying more than double the bid for repair. None of it made sense. It was by far the worst experience I have ever had in any store or any business I have encountered. I have shopped in that store since it opened in 1993. I was in new construction and suggested it to all of my homeowners. We have all been extremely happy with the customer service. Since it came under new ownership in 2024 I would suggest going anywhere so you do not encounter this nightmare. I have since heard of others sharing similar stories. Why go there and pay more money for not only no help but to be treated so poorly. MY biggest mistake was not taping it and not calling law enforcement. read more

This place has been here for years and like many and most hardware stores, its like a convenience store away from the "big box" centers like Home Depot and Lowes. Yes, they are pretty much always priced higher, but service is always higher as well. I can rarely recall going into this particular Ace where I wasn't asked upon arrival what I needed and told to wait so someone could help me find it. Yes, there are occasions when I catch one of the usually older gents that work there throwing me a line of BS, however all in all I'm generally pleased. They also fix stuff. They do small engine work, last year my snow blower. I've also had them cut glass to needed dimensions for certain projects I've run into. This last time I visited they didn't have what I was looking for, however I did see a couple of other item I didn't know I needed, for a future project (or not). Regarding not having my desired item, I'm not surprised. I found that only on e-bay. read more

I love Ace Hardware, but I think it is disrepectful of the safety of customers at this time for store workers not to wear coronavirus masks. Masks protect other people, not the person wearing them. I am surprised that Ace in Apple Valley (and perhaps other locations) is not more concerned for the welfare of their loyal customers than they are. I've had better customer service by employees at fast food restaurants.( Nothing against working at fast food places). Talk about being cranky and very short with customers. Plus they were going to over charge me for screen replacements when I brought them there and hauled them in. Luckily I called a brought them or to the ACE in Eagan.(not part of a chain of the same owners) They were extremely nice and seemed happy to be there. Plus they quoted a price half of what I was quoted at the one in A.V. Anyway I won't go back. Crappy customer service all the way around. read more

I just returned 2 packages of mouse traps. I had bought 5 packages. I explained to the clerk that the traps were very sensitive and would trip before they were even set on the ground. So my husband set the traps differently and they seemed to hold. The next day, all 6 traps were clean of peanut butter and never went off. What gets me is when I returned the unused traps the clerk says to me. "Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't." As if I was a moron. I wouldn't be writing this note if she had said, "I'm sorry this didn't work for you, I'll have someone look into this. Is there anything else you need?" Service has gone down the toilet. read more

I had my snowblower serviced there. The final bill for that tune up was $123.74. One of things that was supposedly replaced was an auger belt. Got to use my snowblower for the first time since that service this weekend and the auger ceased before I could finish my plowing. Brought it back and was charged another $ 37.49 for replacement of the belt. Guess what their explanation was? Apparently "the snow was pretty heavy and I worn the belt". So, I used this snowblower for 3 season with the same belt, but the belts that this Ace Hardware store uses is for light flurries only. Anyway, I think one of a few things happened - they used a wrong or defective part or never replaced the belt to begin with. So, I suggest finding another place for your equipment servicing needs. read more

If you need a screw, nuts or bolts, they sell individual ones. However, I don't recommend beyond that. I purchased a lawn mower from them and while it is not their fault it is a lemon, I took it to them for repair and it took a month and was initially told 1.5 weeks. I called three times to get a status update as to when it might be completed and each time was told someone would call back but never did. I regret I purchased the lawn mower there and will not be taken small engines there for repair again. read more
